The work was perfectly good. I have no issues with their quality of service. It was just twice the cost of others and no better. Not having a business location should lower their cost of operations (they are given access to the VA hall for no charge but do the work at home). I attempted to confirm pickup yesterday but received no response, even though the text shows as "read." I have called and texted multiple times today without any reply. I tried on a dress I'd had for awhile just a few days prior to an event I had planned to wear it to and discovered it was now a size or two too large for me. Aimee was great to work with. As one of the Yelpers mentioned, this place doesn't answer calls, but, they will respond via text. I met up with Aimee at the storefront where she got my measurements. She does all of her work at home and has your item delivered when she is done. She was able to get my dress altered a few days before I attended a wedding. As others have mentioned, it is pricey, and although she said she doesn't charge for delivery, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's included in the overall cost. I've used Westside Alterations for everything from customizing dresses to simple hem jobs on work pants. Every time they've done a great job! A little pricier for simple alterations than I would expect, but I know a shop on California Ave in Seattle is not cheap to keep. Super nice and very responsive but I was more than disappointed with the alterations I had done. Perhaps I needed a tailor instead and should have started with one item first before having 4 pairs of pants altered. I am mostly frustrated that I wasn't told upfront that she couldn't do what I wanted. I brought in 3 pants and a jumpsuit that had long droopy butts and some extra fabric that I was hoping could be altered to be more flattering and fit better. After alterations, they look worse than what I started with (now just tight and droopy) and I actually had 2 pants taken back out. The holidays (thanksgiving and Christmas) hit me hard. Hard in a sense to where my fat ass busted through 2 pairs of jeans by simply sitting down. Sad Gracie, as they are her favorite jeans and I'm still not willing to accept my new fat filled identity and really wanted to repair my jeans. The woman working here is SO lovely, and as I pranced inside with my toddler, feeling full of shame with the 2 ripped in right in the butt jeans I was about to present her smile immediately was a relief that things were about to be aiiiight. $15 per pair to fix, and when I picked them up they looked just like new! And whatever she did I didnt have to lose a pound to get them back in because they are super comfy and now that its been a week I can confidently say that a few more meals wont make these jeans budge, and I can squeeze my gut right into them with confidence. read more

I have been going to Westside for years for minor alterations and repairs, but recently brought in a more serious project for alterations and I cannot keep quiet about it! I had three dresses that I hadn't been wearing because the high neckline didn't suit my style, I asked for a wider and lower neckline and the seamstress delivered! My dresses suit me MUCH better now and I am so happy! I also had pockets added to a jumpsuits and I am very pleased with those as well. My hands and phone were measured when I brought the jumpsuit in so that the pockets are big enough. I HIGHLY recommend coming here for pockets. read more

The lady that owns and runs this place is a hard worker. She can do some pretty good alterations, like replicating the fancy bottoms of designer jeans as she alters them to your correct length. The service is pretty good, but I'm not too demanding, I give her as long as she needs to complete my work. The work that she does is great. When I am buying clothes that I'm required to pay for alterations, I am now trying to take them to this place in West Seattle out of convenience. I recently had a bridesmaids dress altered here. I was able to walk in on a weekday afternoon and have the dress pinned for two alterations that day: 1) shorten the straps and 2) hem the two layers of the skirt. The owner is a kind, older woman who has been a seamstress for many years. I felt the price was fair considering the hard, time-consuming work she does by hand. As others have noted, this is a CASH ONLY business, so come prepared. I had a generous timeline, as I planned ahead, which helped make this process even less stressful. I was happy with the work she did; it was exactly as discussed. She called to remind me my dress was finished on the day she promised. My dress was in good shape and she wrapped it for me. I would recommend and use this business again. I even came back to show her photos from the wedding I attended (I live in the neighborhood and walk a lot), which elicited a big smile. read more

I've been here once to get the sleeves on a coat shortened and it was a wonderful experience. The woman working there was very sweet and the work was done within a week, which I thought was quick. I brought in a coat that had zippers at the end of the sleeve, which I needed to get shortened, so I wasn't sure how it could be done with the zipper in the way. I was more than happy with the job that was done, it's very neat and looks amazing, you can't tell that the zipper was messed with. Due to the zippers on the coat, she said the price would be a little higher to get the sleeves shortened but I thought the price was very reasonable. read more

I am a very slim girl, I am a size 0 so finding pants and denim jeans that fit is hard. I have taken 2 pairs of jeans to her so far and she is so sweet and honest and trustworthy. Her prices arent super cheap but they are still affordable compared to a nordstrom tailor. You get what you pay for! Which is a darn good tailor! I will never go back to nordstrom for tailoring again! Plus her shop is right next to my work! Support local and small businesses! I've gone to Westside Alterations a few times and haven't had particularly good experiences but this last interaction will be my last. I'd previously had a bridesmaid dress altered for a friend's wedding by the woman who owns the shop. Throughout the initial fitting/pinning she was a bit rude and very, very short. The general attitude was that I was inconveniencing her. I assumed it was a hectic day and ignored that the two questions (literally two!) about what I should do were answered with frustration. The dress only ended up needing hemming, 3 layers of it, and for two of the four spaghetti style straps to be taken in about half an inch. The bill came to about $150 when I picked it up which is very expensive for the work that was done but as I hadn't done any research on it I paid. As someone else has said, she doesn't steam or iron the final clothing item altered so know it won't come back to you as ready to wear as it would from other shops. This last interaction I had, however, was absolutely awful. I have a dress I'm looking to have altered for a bridal shower. Having done my research this go around I had a general price range of what the work should cost. I went in to first ask for an estimated cost prior to trying it on and pinning. She quoted me the price range I was looking for which sounded great. After some more talk and pinning, the price changed to about $10 over what it should cost - the dress itself didn't cost that much so I wanted to think about it and asked what her turnaround would be if I brought it back the next week. Her response was "No." She wouldn't do it later if I didn't choose to agree to alterations that day. She then told me that she would charge me more if I brought it back and that I had wasted her time (the pinning and discussion had taken less than 10 minutes). When I told her the price seemed higher than I was looking for she then proceeded to raise her voice about it to me (I won't say yelling but it was close) while I was changing back into my clothing in the back room. Overall, her work on the one dress I've had done is fine. Her alterations prices are high compared to the work and prices charged by others. Ultimately, there are plenty of alterations places that do comparable work with far better people skills as I've found - I'll be using them from now on. read more

I have a plastic silver top and bottom I found at a Walgreens for $3.99. It was created to help people sweat more while working out. I found it to be the perfect piece for my burlesque ensemble. Problem was it was separate and I was on the search for a jumpsuit. What does a girl that doesn't sew do? Pay someone else to do it. I went to another alteration shop and she dismissed me claiming her sewing machine needle wouldn't be able to get through the material. Granted this is plastic but its not incredibly thick. I left the shop wondering what other alteration places were in the vicinity. I remember this shop because I got a zipper replaced there years ago. I went to Westside and the cute little lady greeted me. I showed her the suit and asked if it would be possible for her to work on it. Initially I wanted the top and bottom attached, a zipper put on, and the sleeves and pants hemmed. She told me that would be a lot. Yikes. It would be $25 to put the zipper on. The extra cost was due because I needed a longer than normal zipper which she didn't have. It would take $20 to attached the top and bottom and then she charges $12 to hem. Unfortunately funds are low as of late and creating a jumpsuit was essential. Thankfully when she saw the material she didn't brush me aside. She said it would probably work and she ended up going behind her work station and pulling out a plastic table cloth. She folded the table cloth to make it thicker and tested it on her machine. It worked just fine. She asked me when I would need it done by and wrote me out a receipt. The total was $21.90. There was a sign posted boasted "Cash Only" and before our transaction was complete she reminded me of that. I said my good-byes and thank yous and said I'd be back Tuesday. Tuesday comes and I'm anxious to see my suit. It may turn out badly or she may have to break the news her sewing machine couldn't take the material. Not so to either scenario. She brought the suit out and it was fantastic. As I left she told me in a few weeks she would be moving a few blocks down. The number will remain unchanged. If you need reasonably priced, speedy alterations done I highly suggest Westside Cleaners and Alterations. read more

I waited until I had a couple of experiences here before I wrote my review. The first visit I brought in a pair of biking knickers that need to be ...ahem....let out a smidge. The second visit I brought in a pair of pants to be turned into knickers and a button refastened, while my wife dropped off two pair of dress pants to be hemmed. Our pants were returned to us exactly as we requested. Need something altered or hemmed? Take it to this woman - seriously, she doesn't mess around. She will give you a fair price, do a good job, and get your clothes back to you on the agreed upon time. She is sweet, honest, and reliable. I took in my jeans to get hemmed and to take in the inseam. I spoke to her at length about how I wanted the inside seam of the pants to be the seam that got changed and not the outside seam of the pants. When I went to pick them up she altered the outside seam. I clearly told her how I wanted the inside seam to be altered. I also left her a drawing of what I wanted to be changed and she still managed to mess up. She also quoted me more for the inside seam to be altered and stuck by that price when I told her I was not comfortable with the price. If you are a raw denim enthusiast do not go here. She will completely destroy the selvedge of your jeans and then say "there was confusion". How was there confusion if she said ok, charged more and also had a drawing. I will not be going back here and warn you before you go here. read more

I brought my daughters prom dress here to be hemmed. It was a sequins dress that we spent almost $500 on. She had the train removed. It was finished a couple of days before prom. She tried it on once and everything was fine. When she went to put it on on prom night, it lost about 20% of its sequins. They hadn't tied the threading off anywhere and I spent an hour and a half with a tube of super glue trying to stop the bleeding. It was horrible. She had no choice but to wear to prom. Although it provided a very interesting memory, it's not the type she would have hoped for. I understand that having a sequent gown may be challenging, but that was never communicated to us when she did the fitting. If they were not capable of hemming it properly, they shouldn't have excepted the work. To be fair, I also brought in a couple of pairs of pants to be hemmed and looks like they did a fine job. That's why I gave it two stars. read more
