Pros: I really enjoyed the old house and cozy environment. Great music. The food was good enough. The old fashioned was good. Cons: really weird service. The waitress didn't say much more than "do you want an appetizer, are you ready"... etc. didn't seem to have a lot of experience which I believe matters when the entrees are on average more than $30. I got the marry me chicken linguine and it was good, but parts of the chicken were cooked so tough it was chewy and inedible. The bartender was vaping behind the bar. Everything. Had a 12:45 Mothers Day Reservation, no service no even water for 45 mins. When we complained after another 5 mins a server came to table and said she was "assigned" to us. Very disorganized. Waiters bring food to wrong tables. Felt like they were totally unprepared. Even ran out of coffee, how do you have brunch without coffee and waitress not sure what juices were available. Left at 1:45 still no water. Thanks for trying to ruin my Mother's Day. To say this is a venue connected to New Orleans is a travesty. I was born and raised in New Orleans and one thing we excel at is food and drink service. It is nice that they added sound dampening pads to the ceiling to reduce the noise in an echoey old house. Would definitely come again. This was my first visit. I was greeted warmly when I walked in. Our waitress was wonderful and checked in to see if we needed anything. The decor is historic yet comfortable. We had brunch. I loved the crab cake Benedict and my husband had the Shrimp and Grits which he raves about. Both entrees were large enough for two meals. So of course we carried home what we couldn't eat. This was our second time dining here, we first visited about a year ago when they had just opened and had a similar experience. We decided to give it another chance, hoping things had improved, but unfortunately, they haven't. We had a 12pm reservation for brunch and didn't receive our food until 2pm. A two-hour wait is extremely ridiculous, especially when two of the meals were omelets, which should be relatively quick to prepare. The table next to us was seated well after us, and also got their food first. On top of that, we never received the toast that was supposed to come with both omelets. The omelets themselves were tasty, but overall, the food wasn't worth the wait. My husband's shrimp and grits were overly greasy - the shrimp had good flavor, but the rest of the dish was disappointing. The waitstaff was doing they're best - but clearly overwhelmed, which made it obvious the issue lies with the kitchen or management. After two visits with the same problems a year apart, we be won't be returning. read more

The house is absolutely gorgeous. The wait staff is very pushing to hurry up and get finished with you. We arrived for dinner around 6pm. As soon as we were sitting they asked would you like to order. We were wanting a relaxing dinner but from the drinks to the conclusion was 54 minutes. The waitress was not understanding we wanted a slow relaxing experience. We ordered appetizers thinking that would give us a break from demanding our dinner meal....she was relentless. We caved an quickly ordered. Just as quickly everything arrived....including the check as dinner was served. I thought that odd....the waitress returned to our table 3 times for payment. This review is for The Cafe downstairs. I was terribly disappointed with my lunch choice at The Cafe downstairs at the Goetchius House. First, the bread was literally hard as concrete and almost inedible. Second, the size of the ham and Brie sandwich was what one would expect for a child's order. For $16 I would consider it a giant rip off. I was in a big hurry so I didn't have time to complain and wait on another order, so I ate what I could and left. BEWARE! I recently attended a Halloween ball at The Goetchius House, and while there were some highlights, the overall experience was a bit underwhelming. Starting with the bar service, the male bartender--a slim, tall, medium-length-haired guy--provided rather poor customer service. I asked him for a drink recommendation, and instead of engaging, he moved on to the next customer after only a brief pause. However, the female bartender was a breath of fresh air. She was attentive, engaging, and carried on friendly conversations with each customer, making the drink experience enjoyable. As for the food, it was another disappointment. The meatball I tried was disgusting and dry, and the other food looked equally unappealing. For the price of the ticket, I expected much better quality and presentation. More like baby shower finger food. The event itself, I felt that the $65 ticket price wasn't quite justified. The layout had us walking in circles with not much variety in what we saw. While the atmosphere was festive, it was only about 65% welcoming overall. I'd recommend some improvements to make it feel more inclusive and engaging for the ticket price. Honestly, I don't know if I will return next year. What's even more disappointing is the company's response to my original review. Instead of addressing my concerns constructively, they insulted me by calling me a "trick." This behavior is completely unprofessional and a glaring example of why people should stay away from this company. Their inability to handle customer feedback respectfully reflects poorly on their business. I want to make it clear that my reviews are always honest, and the majority of my reviews are positive and praising. Not all of my reviews are bad, and I provide feedback to help businesses improve where necessary. I also have a right to my opinion, and the response I received from this company has made me feel unsafe. Instead of fostering an open and professional dialogue, the company's unprofessionalism and alleged removal of comments raise serious concerns about transparency and how they handle criticism. My family and I tried this place for brunch one Friday. The atmosphere and overall feel of the place is AMAZING. The staff was friendly and informative. I only have a couple of complaints. The fruit salads we received were filled with multiple pieces of moldy fruit. The rest of fruit was definitely lacking freshness. The rest of the food was delicious and very filling. The staff did tell us that our order included a side for free. However, our receipt revealed we were charged extra for that side. The outdoor area is SPECTACULAR with views of the river and railroad tracks. However, there was dog poop in the grass and some general tidying up that could be done. I did notice staff standing in the kitchen area on their phones, so the place could benefit from a couple cleaning sweeps throughout the day. Overall, excluding those few grievances, I'm glad I tried this place and would definitely recommend/go again. read more

My friend, Ginger Streetman, and I had the most lovely time at Renata's fancy tea today. We felt so special and the finger sandwiches were delightfully delicious. The macaroons and carrot cake were prepared creatively and tasted fresh and perfect. The servers were very attentive. We felt like we were at the beautiful home of friends. Renata and her husband interacted with all the guests and showed us their collection of art dedicated to animals, as well as the photographs of the original owners of the house from 1839. They still have lovely stained glass windows. Renata is an interior decorator who has transformed the interior of the Goetchius House into a true artistic expression of herself. Renata and her husband are true gems of our community. read more

The good: The house and grounds (from what I was able to see) are beautiful. The food I ordered was excellent. The bad: From the time I arrived I was treated as if it was suspect that I would be eating here (I was nicely dressed, picture "Sunday best.") I was repeatedly told, by multiple employees, that I would need a reservation (1. I was actually under the impression I already had one 2. The restaurant was mostly empty at the time 3. Reservations are not required for brunch, according to their website.) Once the reservation issue was sorted, I was told multiple times by multiple employees that I would need to make a minimum $25 purchase (I was dining alone). As it was brunch, I was planning on a coffee and a pastry or appetizer, which wouldn't have met the $25 quota, so I ended up having to purchase what I actually wanted PLUS an additional entree, bringing the bill for the sweet little treat I'd planned for myself to - quota, tax, and tip included - much more than I'd planned to spend. And, given the way I'd been treated by the employees, I didn't even take the time I'd planned to enjoy the ambiance and grounds. I just ate and left, upset and embarrassed. I'm sure this is a lovely spot for others looking to celebrate events of all kinds, but I wasn't treated well here, and can't see myself willingly returning. Three stars because, again, the food was good and what I saw of the place on walkup and from my table, it was/is very pretty. read more

Such a pleasure to meet and get acquainted with Renata Martoni and best service with Tiffany and another gentleman host but didn't get his name. The unique menu had something for everyone to choose and not overwhelming. The presentation was creative and the flavors perfectly complimentary to other for a scrumptious gastronomical experience combined with the creative venue and tastefully designed with intention an atmosphere inspired from past historical events that divided people to bring them together under one roof to enjoy a collaborative and positive cultural experience. This is a hidden gem in Columbus, GA. The house and grounds are absolutely stunning. It has outside seating that is gorgeous. Inside the house you will experience beautifully romantic lit rooms with piano playing entertainment. That is not the gem, the food is what puts this restaurant over the top. We had arancini, calamari with lotus root, caprese salad and butternut and leek soup as appetizers and they were decadent and absolutely delicious . For our entree we had a variety of beef Wellington, filet and mushroom risotto and linguini with clams and they were delicious also. I also had the best elderflower martini I have ever had. Overall this is one of the best restaurant I have ever eaten at in Columbus. The service and hostess were equally exceptional. The food will remain with you for quite some time, it is that memorable. Highly recommend. I will be returning next time I am in town. Absolutely LOVED it!! read more

Well it definitely only gets a 3 for the food. I just didn't care for the young lady named Trinity or Tiffany. Not quite sure. She just didn't seem all there,perhaps inebriated who knows. She just didn't seem to genuine amongst the timing of our food coming out which did not concern her. She wasn't aware that I did over hear her in reference to something I would never discuss or say at work or least not let someone hear me,so that left an impression as well. Definitely was a change of ambiance and service compared to the last time we had come last week. Did not see her tonight but she was very attentive and anticipated our needs nice young lady anyway not sure of her name either just remember something with a R kind of exotic,and dark complexion,pulled back curly hair,anyway just not the same experience as this time. And I'm not usually one to do reviews or comment on stuff ,but did feel the need in this case. My husband still doesn't mind coming back and giving it another try but I on the other hand feel a way about doing so , when we go out we do have an expensive taste and love great cuisine and do not have a problem paying for what we want ,I do however have a problem paying my family's hard earned money on mediocre or bad experiences. That's kind of why we chose the places we do because we don't mind paying for the experience and upscale standards. A place like Applebee's or something along those lines are not our taste and where we would expect that type of service. And this one falls in that category, kind of in between, because the experience wasn't just outright terrible just not up to par in my opinion. If we did return maybe the young lady in the past or someone else will be tending to our service needs. As we are still looking for a place to book for our Father's Day celebration. We had an absolutely lovely, if not completely bizarre, dinner here. Yes, as Erin mentioned, it is a lengthy dinner. But not too bad, we came expecting a relaxed nice dinner, and that was what we had. Over the course of 2 hours, we enjoyed the menu quite thoroughly. Starting with the rolls (delicious, seriously, and I am not a fan of bread!) and the St. Francis Cabernet (of which we went through 2 bottles amongst the four of us, not too shabby). Then, appetizers. We took a sampler of the coquilles st. jacques (delicious scallops and mushrooms baked into a crust) which were fabulous, the mussels (they were not bad, the sauce was very nice), and the escargots. I love escargot, and they did them up just right, buttery and delicious, baked into mushroom caps. One member of our party was vegetarian, and he had the artichoke casserole, which was also delicious. Salads were nice, but it's hard to mess up a salad (I am so glad there was no iceberg in this one, though!!). The entrees were delicious, the chateaubriand was cooked precisely rare, just as requested (a refreshing touch, a good steak is hard to find, and it hurts when a good steak is demolished!). They were accommodating for our vegetarian friend, who enjoyed his vegetable pasta it seems. The yellowfin tuna special was considered a great success as well. We asked for bananas foster and cherries jubilee for dessert, and our lovely waitress, upon finding that there was little ice cream and no cherries, gave us a free bunch of bananas foster (heavy on the bananas and delicious, and I don't like bananas much either!) and then we dug into the chocolate cake (delectable and heavenly) and the key lime pie. A great success overall, we will certainly be back to enjoy a lovely lazy meal of deliciousness! read more

In the 50's, my siblings and I went to Dr Blanchard's office in this house. Looking at the house, brings back flashbacks of walking up, (what seemed to be the largest staircase ever) when I was a very small child. I remember the nurse casing my brother all over the house trying to catch him, to give him a shot, only to end up with him biting the nurse when she caught him. Would love to come to the restaurant. I'm sure it is 5 stars, just like Dr Blanchard was. We loved him...he took care of our whole family. He birthed all eight children. By the time the last child was born, mom and dad could not afford to pay him. He accepted a ham as payment. Those where "The good old days." Bricks all around, a comfortable intimate space, and delicious food and drink... and fun deserts like baked alaska they lit in front of us. One of the best parts is the lit garden out back. Omigod, I have had some of the most ridiculous meals of my life here. We used to always go here to celebrate birthdays, etc., but it just got so absurd that we could no longer return. The service is consistently poor, sometimes taking half hour just to get something simple like a glass of water. They are extremely understaffed, and this is perhaps part of the problem (the last time we were there there was one waitress, and one person working in the kitchen). Be prepared to spend hours here if you are planning on eating, and also be prepared to pester the server. The last time we went my uncle had to actually go into the kitchen and demand that, since we had been waiting at least an hour, that we get some food. On the plus side, if you go here you will be guaranteed a comical story to amuse your friends. read more

I love this one! Very romantic, quiet, place to get away from all the noise of the regular bar and grills. The steaks melt in your mouth and are so tasty. The waiters and waitresses there give you extra special attention and love. If you are not rude to them they treat you like family. The house itself has alot of history and the air is majical. Anyone that thinks this place is not wonderful has no class and needs to be directed to a tgif or something louder, for a less mature crowd. If you want great service and wonderful food and atmosphere this is the best kept secret in town!!
