My group of three found The Globe as we were shopping around. Two of us are from Missouri and one of us was a recent transplant to New York. We were looking to grab a drink at somewhere with a decent happy hour, saw The Globe, and popped in. There were only about three others in at the time and one bartender working but we had a great time. The bartender was very nice and accommodating. She said she was from Ireland so I guess she knew what it was like for us being new to the city. We didn't eat but had a few drinks. The place looked very nice, clean, the bathrooms were well taken care of. It looked like a great place to bring a group of friends for some drinks and bar food. This place is great. Cozy Irish pub with live Irish quartet every other Tuesday. The bartenders are warm and welcoming. There's a $12 burger/fries lunch special that comes with a BEER INCLUDED. I'm disgusted at how I was treated. I didn't even get to try anything because I had to leave due to how rude the bartender was. The old, bald, alcoholic-looking man bartending on Wednesday at 3:45pm is a complete jerk. I sat down at an empty bar, and all I did was ask him if a Moscow mule counted as a well drink?? (I've been places where it counted, so I just wanted to know). He had the worst attitude and continued to address me with condescension during our exchange. I ordered a well rum with pineapple and I asked if he had a white rum. He said to me condescendingly, "It's our well so you're gonna get what you get." Yes I realize it's well but I just wanted to know if it was white or dark?! There's no need to be such a rude ass to me over it. I finally said "never mind" and told him he was very rude. He in turn called ME rude, which is truly rich because I was extremely polite! I said to him, "'I'm rude because I asked about a Moscow mule???" And he said nothing, because of course I wasn't rude. He immediately judged me, for reasons I don't know, and how he acted toward me was appalling. I am a server myself and this treatment of customers is unacceptable. Cockroaches! Yes plural! went there today around 430pm, sat near the bar and I start noticing the guys at the bar keep squirming and moving away from the bar. Then I see the huge cockroach on the floor, then I see another one, and one on the bar itself, then two more scurry along the wall near the table my husband and I were at! Not a single person on the wait staff said or did anything, in fact, they were so unphased this clearly can't be the first time they've seen This. We got up to leave, told the server to cancel our order and she had the audacity to still charge us for the 1 drink that came to the table that was barely sipped on (the other was being made when the cockroaches started their terror attack!). I'm so traumatized, I hope the health dept closes them down, that is grossly unacceptable and utterly disgusting. read more

Its inviting window seats empty at dusk, and tiny tea lights along the bar providing a warm glow, proved too persuasive to pass up. Literally stumbled into this place one Tuesday night with some friends. And yes, I was out on a Tuesday night. It was crowded, but not too crowded. We sat at the bar. They had a nice selection of beers and not too shabby of prices. The bartender was attentive and really nice. I may have been just a LITTLE intoxicated, but I greatly enjoyed the vibe of this place. I actually really liked this place! Though it was a little too dark for me at 4pm the place was pretty full but we were seated quite quickly and given menus. Between the 5 of us we ordered a bunch of appetizers and a bunch of drinks and we really enjoyed everything. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious. I really appreciated the pita chips that were paired with it. They weren't over baked like most places! And the chunks of fresh artichokes were great. The wings were excellent. I'm not a fan of overly sauced wings and these had a nice bite without being soaking wet. I loved them. The tater tots are not to be missed! They were HUGE and tender and crispy and heavenly and I'm just obsessed with potatoes and they made me happy. My inner child squealed. The potato skins were serious business. The 5 of us could barely get through an order because it was so large. The mac and cheese was okay. Not cheesy enough for me but it was good nonetheless. And the calamari was impressive for a bar restaurant! 6 beers, 6 shots, a vodka tonic, and a bunch of appetizers came to $180. I would recommend this place for Happy Hour, on a friday at around 7:30PM, it seemed like most people were there after work. Lots of stuffy, business suit people drinking beer. Overall the atmosphere got into a more bar-going-out-type lounge as the night went on (aka the people next to us started doing tequila shots around 8:30) My friend and I easily got space at the bar in the back and the bartender (when he wasn't chatting up the 50-something cougar) was fast with the drinks. Two of my friends and I left our credit cards at this bar and after they confirmed they had them they couldn't get them back to us because they were in a "safe". 1 day later there was over $5,000 in fraudulent credit cards on the cards. Fun little place off 23rd. Parking is available on the street even on a Friday and Saturday night, it's a little off the beaten path. Bar has a couple sections, with a bar in the back and a bar up front to the left as you enter. You can reserve some of the seating spaces if you have a big enough party or just wander in and grab a seat. The drinks are strong and they're about the average price ($8-12 each). Dark lighting, and the DJ has a tiny corner at the back bar to spin his beats, but overall a fun night. I was looking for a spot to have a drink before a Yelp Event the other day, and The Globe came up in my search as a good place to check out. I do have to admit being impressed when I walked in. The Globe has a really nice, classic bar feel to it. Lots of dark wood everywhere, old style light bulbs installed on the lighting fixtures on the walls and the place is large enough that there are actually *two* bars, one in the front and one in the back. The front section is mostly for drinking and lounging while the back sections seems more reserved for dining. I ordered a Spiced apple mixed drink and it was really nice. Sweet at first, but then the alcohol kind of settles in afterwards. The bartender was very nice and mixed up drinks with lightning speed (a necessity in Manhattan, really). My only complaint with The Globe is that on a relatively hot and humid day, they didn't have their air conditioning on and instead had their front windows/doors wide open. It became really stuffy in the bar despite this opening. The only real relief was sitting at the front of the bar where the window was opened. Of course, the drawback is that's where everyone smokes too. so you get a hit of that - not pleasant if you don't like the smell of cigarettes. The Globe is a nice, chill bar with a friendly staff. They supposedly have good food too. Hopefully if I"m ever down this way again I'll get to try it. read more

I'm sorry to say, but I found an alternative to Joshua Tree that's slightly bigger. I walked in and felt as if I recognized everyone, like going to a bad high school reunion. Everyone looked like they had a stick up their bum, and cheerleader effect was at full capacity. Everyone looked miserably snobbish and full of themselves. The bouncers think they are the bees knees and escorted people away from the coat check line and told them to leave rather than stand.... Also at some point Coat check was full! How does that even happen? By the time I left there was a 40 minute wait to get inside. I waited about half that time just to use the bathroom. There is kind of some room to dance, but hardly. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to come here knowing the cross streets, apparently I wasn't wearing my smart pants & thought ooh it's close by, let's go.... no no no. It's definitely a scene for just-out-of-college early 20-somethings to act like they're still in school and make questionable decisions. That being said, I was there for a birthday of someone "my age" and it was a ton of fun. We didn't reserve any space but we commandeered an area just past the bar and held down the fort. The drinks were reasonably-priced and it was relatively crowded when we got there around 11. My friends said it had just recently filled up and was pretty empty around 9:30-10:00. The service was on the slower side, but not any worse than you'd expect if you know anything about this place (I envy you if you don't). If you're 23 and looking for a bit of a rowdy night, get here ASAP. If you're in your early 30s and looking to have a few drinks with you significant other, DO NOT. read more

Very relaxed atmosphere and seems like a chill place to grab drinks and talk except that it's a bit too loud for that unfortunately. I ordered mac and chorizo, which was pretty average. I remember this being more of broccoli mac and cheese since I found only a few pieces of chorizo that seemed misplaced because of how scarce they were, but otherwise was a delicious meal. I was really happy with the customer service here. Last night my friends and I headed to The Globe after I played a show at Mercury Lounge, and one of the employees went out of his way to ask if I wanted to put my guitar and pedalboard in the closet. He introduced himself and said just ask for me when you're ready to leave and we'll open it back up, very courteous and friendly. Later when a friend wanted to put her bag down they let us put that there too. Now I guess I was a bit more drunk than I had thought because I left my card behind the bar overnight. I called next day and another employee answered, saying yes we have it, come get it whenever, no problem. I made my way there and yet another friendly employee at the bar helped me get my card. The whole exchange was very easy, no bitterness from them for me leaving the card, no bs "fees" that some bars charge when you leave it, and my balance was under their usual minimum but they didn't even mention it. All in all I was really blown away by how helpful and pleasant not just one but several employees at The Globe were in this experience. I've been to The Globe a good handful of times over the years and have always had a good time, always good music and late night dancing, great vibes.
