The day before, I watched her promise our bride that her staff would light candles, and set up a couple last minute decorations. Then when the other bridesmaids and I followed up she would say that's not my responsibility or decorations are not in my contract. I watched her promise the bride she would have chairs and a folding table brought over to her room for hair and make up the morning of the wedding but we never received them. I was with the bride when she clearly explained to the owner that she wanted the cake out for view during the entire event. It took me five reminders to get the owner to set up the table and linens for the cake. She didn't end up doing it until guests were arriving and the bakery was there, waiting. She's a lot of talk and not a lot of action, with a very fake personality. Her only saving grace is that the guest rooms we stayed in are very very clean, and have nice touches like fridges, card games, water, and snacks. All in all though she needs to work on her customer relations. If you don't want to offer a specific service that's fine, just don't promise it.

Not a "Villa" - Expect Rustic…read more We rented the farmhouse, cabins, and bridal suite for a group of 18, expecting the advertised "luxury lakeside penthouse" experience with air conditioning. What we encountered was unacceptable from the moment we arrived. None of the rooms were clean and the buildings are not well maintained. Numerous light bulbs were burned out, the farmhouse freezer did not work, and some of the beds were so broken down that sleeping on the floor may have been more comfortable. No one showed up to check us in. The air conditioning was not working in the farmhouse or cabins, and it failed in the bridal suite the following day. The property was so unbearably hot that we had to spend our first night in a hotel. Two cabins had no electricity when we arrived, and the farmhouse later lost power as well. Even more concerning, my 85-year-old mother fell in a deteriorating shower that had no grab bar. This was not simply an inconvenience. It was a serious safety issue. We contacted the owner repeatedly and when he finally responded to our concerns, his answer was essentially, "Next time, stay somewhere else."

The owners are visionaries who have taken an 1870's barn and renovated it into an upscale, environmentally conscious building with gorgeous stone work, massive fireplaces, and three floors, each with its own character. While everything is on a big scale, somehow the beauty enables intimacy and depth -- plus, the acoustics were great, which also made everything feel close and quiet. The location is not too far from Ithaca but it is set in a vast meadow and backs onto a state park, so it's quiet and lushly rural. Not only is the locale pretty, but the grounds are fantastic, with exquisite attention to every artistic detail. The plantings in the courtyard and terraces have a brightly colored, distinctive style that falls into a category of its own -- something like "a European garden with a tropical flare." Inside the barn, there are plants and artwork everywhere, in a quirky blend that somehow coheres into an experience of great beauty and delight. The building and grounds come together as a whole that radiates elegance. Although the effect is quite modern, the blend of old and new is really striking. They have thoughtfully left some rough touches that resonate nicely with the pervasive old wood and stone; for example, a massive beam that still sports an ancient birds nest. There is natural light everywhere. I was so enchanted that on the last evening I took about 30 photographs, because I didn't want to leave it all behind. Our presenter stayed overnight on the 3rd floor and was just as smitten. This was a really inviting place to do deep and thoughtful work; but it would serve equally well for a magical party space. I can't wait to return; and I suspect that each season has its particular pleasures there. (I am especially looking forward to a November workshop where I hope we can enjoy the radiant heat in the floors and a fire in one of the big stone fireplaces.)

The place has a hippie/bohemian vibe, but so does all of Ithaca. Diane, the Inn keeper is an authentic, one of a kind bohemian in the best way possible. She goes out of her way to make you feel at home and welcome. My husband(a self proclaimed square, conservative) was enamored with her. She took a lot of time to give us really excellent recommendations for restaurants and hikes. We just loved her and the place. We had the most beautiful veranda view of the lake and the sunset. We will definitely be back!

The house reminded me of a classic New York summer retreat house with its craftsman style and antique decor. Our room had beautiful Laura Ashley and Ralph Lauren linens, which gave it a very cozy homey feel. The two breakfasts (fluffy blueberry pancakes & homemade syrup, melon & fresh squeezed orange juice the first morning, and pepper, cheese & leek omelettes with strawberries & grilled pear caramelized with cinnamon & sugar and fresh squeezed orange juice the second morning) and cheese platter on our arrival night were delicious. We especially enjoyed spending our evenings on the front porch where there was a view of the lake, pleasant breeze, and fire flies & stars abound. The house is very centrally located to explore area wineries (which we did via bike) and Watkins Glen (highly recommend hiking the Watkins Glen State Park). It was our first post-COVID quarantine trip so we were a bit nervous, but Cathy kept it immaculately clean, provided hand sanitizer, which was always available by the front door and in our room, and Clorox wipes in the bathroom, and she always wore a mask when she interacted with us. The period touches to the suite were fantastic, with a wrought iron style bed frame, light fixtures and exposed brick chimney in the bedroom. Breakfast was something else altogether! Saturday morning Jen made a wonderful frittata with sweet potatoes, bacon and garlic. To. Die. For. Then Sunday she made a perfect French toast casserole from Challah bread. Keep in mind, she sources nearly all of her ingredients from local farms, wineries, and coffee roasters to ensure fresh, tasty foods! We will definitely be returning in the future and highly recommend others to do the same! Oh, and I forgot, she has an inn cat who loves to get scratches behind the ears. Extra bonus stars for that!
