Plain Jayne bathroom didn't match the rest of the hotel's decor.

Compared to most of the cookie-cutter hotels in the area, it was a treat to find a boutique hotel like The George in an odd residential area like Montclair. I have always liked 'experience' hotels and in the past have found myself staying at Courtyard by Marriott or similar chain hotels, where one room looks just like any other property 20 miles or 2000 miles apart. The night front desk host was absolutely, positively, amazing! So accommodating and friendly ... right off the bat I felt welcome and knew this experience would be both unique and comfortable. She went out of her way to accommodate all of my requests. My purchasing office at work is downright crazy when it comes to billing and details. Because The George was slightly more expensive than the average chain hotels in the area, I didn't mind paying the extra out of pocket to stay at a better establishment. They were very accommodating first of all matching a price I found online at a discount hotel site ... and also splitting the charge, so I could pay part of the bill and keep my dark overlords in the accounting office at work happy. I was shown two rooms and allowed to choose, which is fabulous because it eliminated my room design fomo. I chose the Jen room on the second floor. It was cozy and welcoming with old brick walls, velvet blackout curtains and a red plaid headboard. The room was cave-like in a cozy way ... the type of room you could relax in. It wasn't at all bright and airy but perfect for a night in. This hotel reminds me a lot of one of our favourite escapes near Bath, England called the Rudloe Arms, which happens to be owned by famed chef Marco Pierre White. Like The Rudloe, The George has lots of photographs on the walls. Each room has a name and the photos correspond with that name. In the lobby you'll see lots of photos/portraits of people named George. Likewise in my room, the photo wall was of Jens and Jennifers. The common library room is like something out of an Architectural Digest or House Beautiful magazine. It has a British modern vibe with painted wood paneling, a fireplace and ample leather couches in the main seating area. There are lots of coffee table books (including limited edition books worth $1,000 each!) There is a 'candy closet' where everything is free. They have just about any candy you can think of ... from Chunky bars, Twix, Milky Way to Pop Rocks and Big League Chew. It's all free to guests! They also have an honour bar with more hearty snacks and drinks but those come at a steep price. The one part of my room which was a letdown was the bathroom. It did not match the rest of the room from a luxury level. I was hoping for marble and unique fixtures and a rainfall shower. Instead it was more like a tub/shower combo unit with cheap fittings and standard white subway tile..As a bonified shower guy ... the shower wasn't fantastic. Warm water, low pressure and no rainfall. The only good thing about the spartan bathroom was the shower products. You don't get individual little bottles. Rather there are big pumps on the bath area's shelf. Let me just say the bath products are amazing! The scents are so fresh and vibrant and classy! The bath products alone are worth the room cost. I settled into my cozy room ... used the super fast wifi and watched a few shows on cable. I was told breakfast was on the bottom level in the morning. I went down and was surprised that it was a grab and go setup but, like the honour bar, each breakfast item cost money. Croissants were $4-$5 each, a hard boiled egg was $2. Other items followed suit. I have never been charged for breakfast at a hotel of this magnitude. The money wasn't the issue ... it was the fact they would charge guests. The outside of the building is fairly blah and non-discript. Once inside things get a lot more interesting in terms of the decor. The staff is wonderful and helpful at every turn. Would I stay here again? Absolutely! It was one of the better experiences I've had at a hotel since Covid became a thing. I highly recommend spend the extra to stay here as a getaway. The founder of Bobbi Brown cosmetics and her real estate developer own the hotel, so you know things are 1st class. This is a unique boutique hotel experience. There are some so-so aspects but overall. I highly recommend The George for so many reasons.

Cool, boutique hotel in Montclair NJ. Spacious rooms with ultra comfortable beds & complimentary iPads in each room. Great, relaxing seating area. No in room or hotel bar (They do serve wine in the evening). Plenty of parking & very reasonably priced. Great find!!

While our stay included several challenges, I also want to recognize that hotel management ultimately acknowledged our concerns, provided compensation for the inconvenience, and worked with us after the fact to address the situation. We genuinely appreciate that response. Our primary concern was not that the hotel was hosting a FIFA World Cup team. Hotels frequently host special events, and that can be exciting. Rather, we were surprised that guests were not informed in advance that the event would significantly affect access to amenities and common areas. Having that information beforehand would have allowed us to make a more informed decision when booking. When we checked into our room, there were crumbs on the floor. The housekeeping manager came to inspect the room and acknowledged that it had not been properly vacuumed. The bathroom also features barn-style doors with large gaps between the door and the wall, which provide very little privacy. While this is a design choice rather than a service issue, it is something prospective guests may wish to know. During our stay, the on-site gym was closed because of the team's presence, and guests were directed to use an off-site fitness facility. While an alternative was provided, one of the reasons we selected this hotel was for its advertised on-site amenities. We had also planned to work from the lobby while my wife conducted business calls from our room. However, security operations related to the visiting team frequently limited access to the lobby. Police and security personnel were present throughout the area, guests were periodically asked to move, stairwells were restricted, and at times even the lobby restroom was inaccessible. These operational requirements are understandable, but they substantially changed the guest experience. Because of these cumulative issues, we ultimately decided to cancel the third night of our stay. To the hotel's credit, management listened to our concerns after the fact and provided compensation, which we sincerely appreciated. Their willingness to acknowledge the situation demonstrated good customer service once the issues were brought to their attention. My suggestion for future guests is simply to ask before booking whether there are any VIP groups, team buyouts, or major events scheduled that could affect access to amenities or common spaces. Greater transparency from the hotel before arrival would help guests set appropriate expectations and decide whether the experience is the right fit for their trip. One final observation: one of the event staff members (pictured) interacted with guests in a manner that felt abrupt and impersonal during the security operations. In high-profile situations, a courteous explanation and respectful communication can go a long way toward helping paying guests feel welcomed, even when temporary restrictions are necessary.

The location was extremely convenient with easy access to all the major highways including Rt. 280, the Garden State Parkway, and the New Jersey Turnpike. There's also plenty nearby for shopping and dining. Just one block away is a strip mall with Burlington, Target, Starbucks, and Whole Foods. A little further up the road you'll find an AMC Theater, ShopRite, Petco, and even more stores and restaurants. David made a very positive impression on us during our stay. He was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful whenever we needed assistance. I was already a little on edge after sitting on the tarmac at LaGuardia for 8 hours and then driving 12 hours to New Jersey, so his kindness and professionalism were greatly appreciated. Our room was spectacular! It was very large and equipped with a full kitchen that included a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and large stove. The room also came stocked with plates, utensils, pots, and pans. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. There was a full-sized bathroom with an outside vanity area, two closets, a folded cot, a dining table with chairs, and a comfortable sofa for relaxing and watching television. The complimentary morning breakfast was outstanding with a great variety of hot cooked foods, breads, muffins, fresh fruit, cereals, and more. The parking lot was also plentiful, well-lit, and felt very safe. Overall, this was an excellent stay and we would absolutely return when visiting the area again. 5/5 Price 5/5 Comfort & Decor 5/5 Staff 5/5 Parking 5/5 Convenient location

The pool is advertised and posted as opening at 9:00 AM, both on signage outside the pool area and in the rental information provided when I booked the overnight stay. I was also explicitly told in person at check-in that the pool would be available at 9:00 AM. I specifically rented from here for the pool for my daughter. However, when I arrived at 8:51 AM, the pool was not open. Staff informed me that an engineer must first check the pool levels, and this process occurs between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM. The pool therefore did not actually open until approximately 9:30 AM. When I questioned this discrepancy, I was met with rude, arrogant, and dismissive responses. This directly contradicted the clear information I received both in writing and verbally prior to and during my stay. I had somewhere to be and had planned my morning around being able to use the pool at the advertised time. Aside from the front desk worker being rude, another lady who was in nursing scrubs came and started arguing with me while I was waiting for my son. I had no clue she even worked there cause her uniform was very misleading. With over a million hotel rooms available on the Strip, I expected better reliability and customer service for the money paid. I will not be recommending your property and strongly advise others to consider alternative accommodations. For your records, this took place on 6/I4/2026 so you can retrain the staff members I interacted with and remind them at they are hired where interaction with people come with the job and train them how to be better at it. I hope you will address these operational and training issues so future guests do not experience the same frustration. Also, I travel a lot with sports and you just lost my business for sure.
