I travel a lot for work, so having a comfortable bed and a great location is really important to me, and this hotel checked both boxes! I love starting my day with a walk to grab coffee, and that's exactly what I was able to do here. There were plenty of options within walking distance, which made the location even better. The service was friendly, and the front desk was quick and efficient. I also love that it's a full-service hotel. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and everything was well maintained. The gym was on the smaller side but very clean and had what I needed. I also worked from the lobby restaurant during my stay. My only suggestion would be to add a few healthier appetizer or snack options for guests who want something light rather than a full meal. Overall, I had a great stay with no complaints. We booked The MC Hotel expecting the quality and guest experience associated with Marriott's Autograph Collection. While our stay included several challenges, I also want to recognize that hotel management ultimately acknowledged our concerns, provided compensation for the inconvenience, and worked with us after the fact to address the situation. We genuinely appreciate that response. Our primary concern was not that the hotel was hosting a FIFA World Cup team. Hotels frequently host special events, and that can be exciting. Rather, we were surprised that guests were not informed in advance that the event would significantly affect access to amenities and common areas. Having that information beforehand would have allowed us to make a more informed decision when booking. When we checked into our room, there were crumbs on the floor. The housekeeping manager came to inspect the room and acknowledged that it had not been properly vacuumed. The bathroom also features barn-style doors with large gaps between the door and the wall, which provide very little privacy. While this is a design choice rather than a service issue, it is something prospective guests may wish to know. During our stay, the on-site gym was closed because of the team's presence, and guests were directed to use an off-site fitness facility. While an alternative was provided, one of the reasons we selected this hotel was for its advertised on-site amenities. We had also planned to work from the lobby while my wife conducted business calls from our room. However, security operations related to the visiting team frequently limited access to the lobby. Police and security personnel were present throughout the area, guests were periodically asked to move, stairwells were restricted, and at times even the lobby restroom was inaccessible. These operational requirements are understandable, but they substantially changed the guest experience. Because of these cumulative issues, we ultimately decided to cancel the third night of our stay. To the hotel's credit, management listened to our concerns after the fact and provided compensation, which we sincerely appreciated. Their willingness to acknowledge the situation demonstrated good customer service once the issues were brought to their attention. My suggestion for future guests is simply to ask before booking whether there are any VIP groups, team buyouts, or major events scheduled that could affect access to amenities or common spaces. Greater transparency from the hotel before arrival would help guests set appropriate expectations and decide whether the experience is the right fit for their trip. One final observation: one of the event staff members (pictured) interacted with guests in a manner that felt abrupt and impersonal during the security operations. In high-profile situations, a courteous explanation and respectful communication can go a long way toward helping paying guests feel welcomed, even when temporary restrictions are necessary. read more

I went to the MC Hotel Rooftop recently, and the experience was top-notch! The manager, Paul, greeted us warmly when we got there and made us all feel special and taken care of. The food, drinks (get the MC Margarita and Lobster Rolls!) and service were all great, and the perfect way to spend one of the fleeting nights of summer. read more

Overall, it was a great stay. The staff was very welcoming and allowed me to check in extremely early, which was amazing since I had an earlier flight. The gym facility is also very up-to-date and clean! Also a great area with a number of restaurant throughout the strip. read more

Cute place. Very quiet the time I went. Not sure how it is during evenings. They had a bar in the lobby with good food. I got the tuna taco and it was pretty good, fish was fresh. The truffle fries were yummy. I came for the drinks and decided to eat which is convenient.. They have valet, but not sure if it was for hotel guest or for any guest in that building. I have an office in a nearby town and this hotel beats all of the other hotels in the area hands down. To the point where i adjust my stay dates if it is booked out. Comfy, quiet, and sometimes you get a beautiful view! The rooftop is fun, the downstairs restaurant is fine but not the best the area has to offer. I've had issues with errant charges on my card after checkout, including one charge for 4 old fashioneds - if i drank that much i would surely be dead. the only other issue i have is that sometimes the rate changes if you have to drop a night - which is problematic for someone who's business travel schedule is always in flux. Overall a great place and I'll keep staying as long as the corporate rate doesn't get too high! Tough times! read more

I had a wonderful experience from start to finish with the MC Autograph hotel. Before I even got into NJ I received an email from the GM to see if I needed any special business arrangements while I stayed with them just before the Christmas holiday. I was coming into town for a concert so I was all set. This hotel is located on Bloomfield and it's the main strip of this area. I was able to walk to tons of shopping and dining options. The best part was the hotel's proximity to The Wellmont theater where I was seeing a band play. I tried the coffee in Allegory their cafe in site. Really yummy flavored oat latte kept me warmed up. They offer a variety of drinks and snacks for purchase in the lobby market area. There is also a rooftop Terrance that I unfortunately didn't have a chance to enjoy. If I'm ever in the neighborhood I will definitely be staying with them again. Thank you to Sauda for getting me checked in quickly and with an early check in. You really saved the day for me. Last night was my second stay at the MC Autograph Hotel (part of the Marriott Collection) in Montclair, NJ. The hotel is beautifully organized, and the rooms are lovely. When they said "Welcome back," I felt they meant it. Traveling as a single woman, I felt safe. The price-value-convenient location relationship is excellent. Nice place to stay. Room was clean and the hotel had beautiful decor. My only issue I had was the wait time at the bar downstairs. I waited 20 mins for my first drink. Then, I waited an additional 20 mins for a second drink. The bartender was very kind and apologetic but I just didn't see why it should have taken so long. I watched many people walk to the bar to get drinks to avoid the wait and return to their tables. Nevertheless, I had a nice stay. I just think they might need a little more support at bar. read more

Drinking on the rooftop catching a summer breeze made me hungry. To the lobby I go for a crispy chicken sandwich. Ordered my sandwich with fries. I take my fries very serious. I talked fries with the bartender and she totally assured me they were good. There wasn't a need for my extra instructions. Lol! She was so right!! Should have ordered two because my sandwich was just ok!! It looked good but it was over cooked. This made the chicken dry and in need of more coleslaw. Great customer service! read more

I attended an business event held on the rooftop space . The views were amazing . The appetizers and dessert selections were good . The wine i have to say was excellent . Exiting the hotel , the lobby was very lively . Lots of people mingling at the bar and sitting areas . surprising for a early weekday . I will go back for a brunch , get a better feel of the place . I gotta drop it a couple stars. If I'm expected to stay here monthly for a week and the wifi from the room doesn't work, this is unacceptable. Last month I was here, I thought ok it might be my computer or some security settings preventing me from connecting to the wifi. Went back and had IT check it out...updated drivers, yada yada. This time around still unable to connect. Now I'm able to connect to MC Public wifi so I know it's not my computer... Last night I worked from the hallway and from my rooms bathroom as they were within the range of the public wifi. Of course, that isn't ideal, comfortable, or sustainable. Outrageous. And yes, I contacted the hotel customer service. They were unable to provide a solution. read more

I stayed here over New Years, to get both experiences in NYC and New Jersey. My experience here was not good. The rooms were and overall scenery were nice, but hospitality wise, it was not good. Staff was rude. One of the guy bartenders were rude, he was very loud, demanding and would not let us get a word out when trying to have a conversation. The Allegory, which is within the hotel, had a new Years Eve party that me and my girlfriend did not know about until 10 pm at night because we heard drums and music from our room. We went downstairs to see what the noise was about; they said tickets were sold out and we could not be in the bar downstairs area, in the party area beside the bar, or the rooftop without a wristband that was sold out. The host told us the party and bar were separate from the hotel, and we can't enter without a wrist band. Me and my girlfriend were forced to just listen to the loud music from our room or go elsewhere in NJ where everything was sold out. We also never knew when the rooftop bar or downstairs bar was open or closed. They would also close early, so anytime we came back to the hotel around 9:30pm nothing was open. One of the nights of our vacation stay, we came in around 9pm and asked for wine. Although, they said they close at 11, they were rushing, we kept getting stared at in a way to hurry and finish our wine so they can close. We sat for about 10 minutes, as soon as we got up, they closed the area(early). Two days before this my girlfriend and I were taking pictures with her camera inside the open part of the hotel. The owner of the hotel (lady with blonde/brown hair) I cannot remember her name: but she came up to us in the sense of "what are we doing here" in a very condescending tone. After I then mentioned we have a room here, her mood and facial expression completely changed. She was like "Oh!" and continued to come up with a story to bypass the way she approached us in the beginning. Overall, we did not feel welcomed, and we felt judged on multiple occasions by the color of our skin. We will not stay here again in our future travels. read more

Toilet paper bar is falling off the wall. The front desk told me the room was down free as requested in my reservation. Well, after day two waking up at 4 am and feeling congested with face and eyes swollen I decided to look inside the pillow cover. 75% down pillows. Work trips are hard enough. Staying at what you think will be a decent stay at a nice hotel turns into leaving feeling like garbage is the worst. Stayed here for an entire week due to a work trip in the area. They were very kind to let me check in earlier than 3 o'clock because my flight was earlier than expected. The rooms are very mid century fashionable quite modern and aesthetic and happy to see some decent bath sheets as well. Frette to be exact. The rooftop is also incredible and does not require reservations at least i experienced that during the week. The parking garage situation is not as ideal because if you choose to park your car yourself you need to walk to the garage and it is not an easy in and out all day. Therefore you have to choose the valet option which does cost a little bit more. Location of this hotel is great lots of restaurants within a very very short walking distance. Hotel overall was very clean modern and I would definitely stay here again if I had to be in this particular area of town. read more

Went to the rooftop bar, and the kitchen served me burnt bruschetta. Had to send a couple back for replacements and it's not good to put a customer in that position. Then when I get the bill, I see that for two glasses of saucerne I was charged 27.50 each because they only serve by the bottle and someone else also ordered it so they split the bottle into four parts without even checking in with me as a customer first. I feel that that was an underhanded plan and a way to up-charge on the drinks. it was a slow night. The music was good, but I won't be going back nor will I be recommending the rooftop to anyone. Perhaps that why it was a slow night on a Friday. This is what they normally do and how they operate? The other person that was with me forgot to tip so I went back to add her tip and the waitress adamantly refused to take the extra tip and now I know why because they made extra money off of the two drinks she had already made her money. If I could give this zero stars I would - I rarely speak ill of people/places but this was a completely horrible thing to do to people. I made a reservation back in August for the king corner room for our ANNIVERSARY. We arrived 11:30 am for check in, we were told the room was ready but housekeeping needed to approve the room. With that she tried three times to reach housekeeping by phone but was not successful. She then told us to check back in an hour, we went to lunch and returned later that afternoon, only to be told our room was not ready. Note, this was an entirely new front desk staff; this point it was 1:30 PM. Then we were told to come back at 3 PM - when we came back at 4 PM - we were informed that they gave our room away. They proceeded to offer a discount for a balcony (not facing the city as I originally booked). To further exacerbate the situation once we went to our room, we were unable to get into it. Maintenance had to let us in. Lastly when we decided the room was not acceptable- went to leave, checked the keys to get in upon exiting. They still did not work! My anniversary plans were shattered at this point. read more

Came here for a special event on the rooftop. After the event, we ate at the downstairs section. I tried the chicken and biscuits entrée and it was soooo good. I tried a Bloody Mary which was well made. Also, a sangria which I was not too crazy about as it wasn't too tasty. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. The only downside was the service was pretty slow although the restaurant was not very busy. read more

I came here around 6 pm on a Friday night , it was pretty busy but I was able to find myself a seat at the huge bar they have. I was instantly greeted by their extremely cheerful bartender Jennifer C. I can't remember the name of the drink I ordered, but it had CBD in it, and let's just say it took the edge off of a stressful day at work.. As I sipped my drink vibing to the chill music( they had a band setting up for tonight) I got a little hungry. Joey made an amazing recommendation to get the fried chicken sandwich. My wife and I decided to take a spur of the moment trip into Montclair to celebrate with family. Our stay was unexceptional. The room was nice at first glance but the King size comforter had a noticeable hole in it and the mattress was lumpy and not at all comfortable. The bathroom counters also appeared to be stained with makeup. These seemed like minor inconveniences at the time for such short notice of a trip on our part, and yet... We decided to try to enjoy what the hotel had to offer and wanted to explore the rooftop restaurant/club. We had only been to it once before. This time was alright except for the fact that the "bouncer" let 3 other groups go in ahead of us. After telling us that it was max capacity and we couldn't get in without a reservation, fair. Of course we exercised our patience just for a manager to come (not from the rooftop but from around the corner) and let him know that there wasn't a wait and it wasn't crowded at all. Our issue with this was he didn't even make an attempt to check if it was actually busy or not! We just stood there, waiting. None of these things were so bad that I just HAD to leave a review...until our last day. We were packed and ready to enjoy our last few hours in the town when a emergency alarm went off throughout the entire hotel. My wife who has been dealing with a knee injury had to walk down 4 flights of concrete stairs for no emergency at all. No fire, nothing. A staff member held the door open to the street as we stood waiting to be told what to do. Luckily we were already ready to leave, completely having to disregard the late check out that we paid for and did not get to take advantage of. I also noticed that the other patrons were left confused as to whether they could go back inside the building or not and asked ME (someone who doesn't work there) if everything was ok. I wish that I could leave at least 2 stars for the exceptional valet service (they were so very kind and helpful) and the front desk manager who handled our complaints but it wasn't enough. We did not receive the service that we paid for and that was the most disappointing of it all. read more

They really took care of us, they truly went out of our way to make our stay special. The rooftop club blasts music that vibrates throughout the hotel. When you contact management, they do nothing. On Friday and Saturday nights, the music blasts until 1 AM. I guess this is a good place to have a party, but if you actually need a good night's sleep or basic management, run elsewhere. Seriously, run elsewhere. read more

Worst hospitality experience of my life. I really wanted to like this place for its location and rooms but the staff makes it completely impossible. If you choose to stay here, be prepared to get an entirely different room than the one you booked because they gave your room away or you were lied to about availability. Don't expect an apology, expect the rudest concierge to tell you that YOU are mistaken and there's nothing they can do and then have the worlds most offensive and aggressive manager tell you she can just go ahead and cancel your reservation instead. On your birthday. I made the mistake of giving this place a second chance after being given the wrong room type for my first stay. I cannot believe it happened again. We tried to go to the rooftop bar after being told it had outdoor heated seating only to find that outdoor seating hadn't been open in days. We decided to give the bar a try anyway, and were given the wrong drinks. One I swear was just brown tinted soda water. Again, met with a staff that didn't really care about hospitality. Only stay here if you need a bed to sleep in north jersey but protip try to avoid any situation in which you'd have to talk to staff or need anything from a staff member, especially the front desk attendants and the front desk manager. Beautiful hotel!! Tea quality is great. I think it's called Risi super tasty! Breakfast: The complimentary breakfast isn't worth waking up for. They don't have eggs!! But their menu has eggs and chicken sausage. Due to me not eating pork the manager wasn't willing to substitute the pork bacon for chicken sausage. That's really a bummer that they weren't willing to accommodate. Something so simple would've went a long way. Especially in my post. The waiter was not that great. He was pleasant if all is good but if there's an issue with anything he clearly wants no part of it and he will leave the table before coming to a solution. read more

What a gorgeous hotel in Montclair. My hubby stays there every week for business so I decided to tag along this week. I love that he is in such a beautiful place with top of the line amenities. The Allegory restaurant and bar is on the first floor offering delicious cocktails, wine lunches and dinners. There is also a very cool roof bar upstairs that has some beautiful views of the city. The front desk staff is so kind and helpful. From check-in to check out they make sure you are enjoying your stay. The rooms are beautifully appointed and clean. We were so comfortable for our stay. Just around the corner are several shops and restaurants, making the hotel the perfect location. Definitely one of the nicest hotels in the area. read more

The worst hotel experience imaginable. When we arrived at 7:30p the hotel informed us that they had given our reserved room away. Rather than two queens we were given a king with a pullout bed. They did not give us a discount. The music from the 9th floor disco played until 1a. We could not sleep due to the loud music. The bar/restaurant area did not have enough people working. For example, at 9p on Friday night there was one bartender; at 10:30a on a Sunday morning there was one waitress. Service was incredibly slow. I would not recommend this property. read more

Yes it's a 5 star hotel. No it's not worth the price. Although the room was great, it certainly didn't merit the nearly $700 price tag. My room was listed at $514 on the website with a note to "call the hotel for an even better rate". That better rate included over $150 in taxes and fees. Be warned. The first amenity listed was a fully stocked mini bar. We soon learned this was simply not to be. Apparently with the recent development of Covid (18 months ago) no one was able to update the website. With no ice bucket or glasses in the room, we asked at the front desk if they could send them up. They said no problem. Luckily we passed the desk on our way back and our ice and glasses were waiting behind the desk for us. Ok. Drinks and appetizers in Allegory were very good, with prices one expects to see in Montclair. The only issue was that, in total, we ordered 6things and they were delivered by 4 different people. I realize that the service industry is struggling right now but the staff seemed disjointed and I imagine that's why the restaurant isn't open. The best part of the stay was a visit to the rooftop lounge Alto. Friendly staff and a spectacular view! read more

Known among the townies as no good.  This place is a bummer, y'all. It wasn't ineptitude or poor service we were met with... we felt full-on disdain. Not sure if this is a managerial issue or just some bad apples, but guys, I felt uncomfortable going to the lobby. Like, employees are seething at you. We wanted a staycation, but we ended up hiding.  I was snapped at and side-eyed to the point where I was scared.  SCARED!? What!??? The rooftop is not open to guests - you have to book way in advance, despite it being a selling point on their website.  Covid restrictions I get, but what hotel sells you on a rooftop and then treats you like a jerk when you try and go up there?  I've lived on tour for years, stayed in hotels of all kinds, and I will tell you, this is the worst hotel experience I have ever had.  And this is MY town!  I own here!  How embarrassed am I!? read more

One star is generous, but Yelp won't let me give a lower score. Oh well. We stayed here hoping to take advantage of the rooftop and enjoy some views of Montclair. Instead, we were denied access to the rooftop. First, you have to make a timed reservation to access the rooftop. A bit unnecessary but I get it--there is a pandemic going on, after all. So we made a reservation. We went down to the lobby and approached the elevator to the rooftop. A female employee literally jumped in front of us, accosted us, and demanded to see our reservation. Okay. I pulled out my phone and showed her the reservation. She looked at it, said loudly, "That's for tomorrow," then returned to her station and ignored us. My girlfriend and I just looked at each other like, did that just happen? The hostility was so pronounced that we were in disbelief. We didn't feel welcome in our own hotel. From that point on, we avoided the lobby so as not to be accosted by other hotel employees. I had selected the wrong date on the reservation, but instead of trying to accommodate us, the employee instead just treated us with disdain. It's a shame when a guest staying at your hotel isn't allowed to enjoy its amenities. Other small sticking points: the bathroom sliding door refused to stay closed; the 'balcony' was sparsely appointed, to put it generously--a single plastic chair overlooking a beautiful view of trashcans and dumpsters in the alley. We will not be back here--we clearly weren't welcome. Next time, we'll stay at the George. read more

we visit Montclair regularly (grandchildren!) and every time we do we are so impressed with the quality of the service that we experience at the front desk. on a last minute we begged for a room last weekend and were treated so well by the front desk and management. Ioana. The manager, and Brittany and Mimi at the front desk were so warm, gracious and helpful. Our room was lovely and very fairly priced. Breakfast service at the restaurant was excellent and again fairly priced. Even the valet car parking service (it is an extra charge) was excellent. If you are In Montclair, stay here!! read more

I will NEVER go back to this hotel or recommend it to anyone. I live around the block and was excited to have family in town and have them stay at the MC Hotel. Unfortunately we were appalled with the hostess when we went in on a Thursday afternoon (with our family staying there) and thought the 4 of us would have a cocktail on the rooftop. We were stopped immediately with a shake of her head, no words, and then asked if we had a reservation. My husband said no, though it's a Thursday at 4:30, which is happy hour and btw our family was staying there! Unfortunately, not only was she confrontational she was extremely unprofessional. She didn't try to give another suggestion, she stood her ground and we left. It's sad because this hotel could have been a great thing for this town but the people that work there are less than inviting. I'm giving it one star because you can't do less than that. read more
