What an amazing experience from start to finish. Cookie and her team took care of every detail and made all of our worries and anxiousness disappear. Are emails were always returned promptly and our phone calls were always answered when we called. They walk you through step by step and never once were we asked for additional money or when we planned on paying etc. They truly cared about us and our celebration. I was invited to a Christmas party and was very excited because I've never been to the Brownstone. I've heard many good things over the years and I had high expectations due to the fact they've been featured on the bravo NJ housewives. Valet guys were super friendly and fast! The food was good - the buffet had more than enough food for our party. The passed apps were the best. We enjoyed mini lobster rolls, lamp pops, and shrimp cocktail. The venue itself is nice. The room we were in had an old school vibe but still classy nonetheless. My only complaint would be that the waitstaff wasn't very friendly. It seemed like we were a bother when we go to the bar to order drinks or even ask a question at the dessert buffet. Maybe it was just a bad night for them? read more

I've only been to The Brownstone as a guest, but have been several times over the years and have always enjoyed my experience. From the food to the service...it has always been great. Parking is tough, however, they offer valet parking (maybe on some times/dates). I like the old-school, yet grand atmosphere. The place is huge. We came this morning for an event and there were at least 6 or 7 events taking place at this venue, but it never felt that way. It's still quaint and quiet and overall very nice. This place is marvelous! I attended a dinner for probably 200 people. It was fabulous from the beginning. Beautiful building, exterior and interior and well staffed. We had a wonderful dinner with canapés, appetizers, salad, wine, a perfectly done dinner entrée, dessert, and coffee. The food was done to perfection and everybody enjoyed it. The staff was wonderful, and although there was a crowd, no one really waited for food, the servers and staff were on top of everything. There were other events, including a wedding reception, going on at the same time, but you would never know it. I hope I have an opportunity to come back. read more

When I was planning my husband's 70th milestone birthday, I was recommended by a client to use The Brownstone as our caterer. We went to their facility and sat down with Albert Manzo, the owner. He offered great suggestions after carefully listening to our conversation. We left there knowing that we had found the right and perfect place to caterer our event. They were very thorough in surveying our property with our goals in mind to make this the perfect celebration party! They did not disappoint as it exceeded our expectations with amazing food, service and hospitality. They paid attention to every detail and made sure that nothing was missed. Came here for an Engagement party. Things to note: - I was thoroughly impressed with the food. Oftentimes, the food is not great when it comes to these big parties but this place's buffet did not disappoint. It was The short ribs were so tender and flavorful. The focaccia was yummy. Pasta was cooked well and so was the calamarie. Even their chicken was good! The dessert was all good for the selection they had. - This place seems like they mass produce big party celebrations. When we were here for an engagement party, there was also a baby's 1st birthday, a birthday party, and some other celebration going on all at the same time. - Their sound system could use some work. - The staff were awesome - so friendly and accommodating. Parking: there's a lot outside and there's additional parking in the lot across the street. Aside from weddings, I don't get a chance too often to enjoy the great food and service at The Brownstone so I jump at opportunities that come up - such as gathering with friends to celebrate Italian-American heritage (I'm Greek-Irish....shhhh!! don't tell 'em) with old friends and new acquaintances! Brownstone keeps the food flowing all night - from seafood cocktail raw bar through the unique dishes presented throughout the evening - they do a great job. The facility itself is very nice as well. With many competitors expanding with almost over-the-top additions and super cathedral ceilings everywhere, Brownstone continues with its handsome structure in a refined way. The Brownstone, gratefully, was the location of my bridal shower. When I gave the options to my mom who was planning & hosting for me, I initially thought this room was out of our budget and was so elated when I showed up! This banquet room was gorgeous! There were windows almost on all sides of the room, a gorgeous chandelier and amble room for my 30 or so guests. It was stunning & the sun was shining in. I also adored the table settings. The cake was made by the venue and I couldn't love it any more than I do/did! It fit our theme "Snow in love" for my February shower & I don't know what was better the look or taste of this cake! We had a buffet style brunch menu & they had a pitcher of mimosas for us as well. The servers were also well trained, prompt with requests and attentive. Attended for an event recently! Food - buffet included chicken, beef, potatoes, meatballs, veggies, pasta, salad, calamari, etc. All in all it was nothing out of this world but generally good! Calamari was my favorite part of- crispy and delicious. Drinks - perhaps due to a misunderstanding, there was only one bartender at the bar, and there was a line of about 40 people waiting for a drink. Someone else came to help, however both ended up being very snippy and rude, inferring one guest "should get out of (his) face," for asking for a straw and tossed a glass into a trash can where it shattered. Being empathetic of the stressful situation (lots of patrons) but that felt rude and uncomfortable. Ambiance was gorgeous of course, the venue itself is beautiful and you can decorate to your hearts desire. read more

Had my daughters Communion party here. Pros - Cookie the person who organized everything is amazing. All and any questions I had she was able to help with. Short ribs and calamari was a huge hit!! No complaints at all about the food. The cake was beautiful. They let us come in early and set up center pieces. I had 2 waiters and they were amazing. I had 40 people and they handled everything beautifully. Cons - As soon as I walked in I didn't even put my bag down I was asked for payment. I did have 6 people not show up and I didn't expect a refund but I did want to let them know and since I was approached first thing I didn't know they weren't there yet because everyone was just getting there. I also was going to see if I could have added on beer and wine since 6 people didn't show and pay the difference but that didn't happen because payment had to be made right away. I was told I was able to bring home the left overs and all I got was chicken and short ribs meanwhile there was mushroom risotto, calamari, mussels, potatoes and salad left over, again 6 people didn't show up so I should have been able to get there meals to take home since I just paid for all of it. The bartender downstairs had a bad attitude and was absolutely rude to everyone. Would I do another party there possibly but I would things written down in my contract saying that ALL leftovers are to be wrapped up not just what they feel like wrapping up. I came to the Brownstone and was very impressed. I thought it was odd to have such a venue in a residential area. Once you walk through the doors you feel a traditional elegance. The building is Hugh. There were a few events going on at the same time but you would never have know that. We enjoyed a beautiful brunch and the food was excellent. I went to a wedding here. I won't say the exact date because I wouldn't want our dear friends to know our disappointment. I have been here before for many things, and I found it above average for a catering hall. But this last event - ugh. I will say this couple did not skimp. I know for a fact they paid a good penny to have a running cocktail hour their whole event. Where do I begin? It is clear the quality of the food is subpar to keep costs low. The idea of a raw bar was lovely. The oysters were meh and certainly not fresh tasting. But the second raw clam I got had the worst off taste ever that I was done. I wanted to throw up. The cold cut meats were tasty. The cheese was nothing tasting Italian. It was bland. I love cheese, and I can't even tell you what it was! It was not provolone or Parmesan, which you'd have expected. Whatever it was it wasn't aged. Even a cheap cheddar or Gouda would have tasted better - tasted like a cheese tbh. The rice balls. They were a winner. The crab cakes were awesome. The fried calamari was limp and not crispy. They put too much out at once and it was sadly mushy and oily as a result. The meats were fine. The artichoke hearts were okay. The salads were tasteless. Even the roasted veggies tasted flat. How does that happen? Maybe they were past their prime? Not ripe? I don't know. But they weren't good. The pastas were meh too. Oily sauces. Mushy pasta. Olive Garden or Italian deli restaurant quality. I hate to say that but it's true. The dessert table - ugh. I was looking forward to this not disappointing after the food. After all it's hard to mess up a cheesecake or desserts, no? But alas. Apparently it is not. The cheesecake was bland. It didn't have that tart tang like a good Cheesecake has. And it had that weird gelatin texture. Basically the quality of a cheap bakery. The chocolate pudding tarts were so lacking in quality. The other tarts were terrible. The chocolate fountain looked good but the chocolate wasn't good. The cookies were like Costco "fresh baked." In fact that is the best way to describe all of the dessert items. If you like simply edible and sweet - it works. If your guests aren't used to good food from upscale places and are impressed with the local all you can eat buffet kind of food then this will be great for you. But it isn't the same quality of an even good Italian restaurant or a good bakery. I hate to say it, but it is true. read more

Redeeming itself from last year's post-Covid Easter mess, this year at The Brownstone was an utter delight. There's more food here in one sitting than some countries can produce in a year. I always opt for the eggplant rollatini and the thickest bacon on the planet but this year the mini burger bar (think White Mana) was the star of the day. In addition to the semi-creepy Easter bunny, there was plenty to entertain the kiddies: magicians, pennant artists, caricature artist and a host of others to make the meal a true event. Thankfully,unlike last year, there was coffee on each table so you could take a sip before those doors opened to the world's largest display of Italian inspired Easter delights. I love the Brownstone. The service you receive here is top notch quality. I have had 6 events here now and each one was made perfect by Tommy Manzo. The food is delicious .... (especially the beef steak appetizer, clams, lobster roll and crab cake appetizers) The short ribs and brisket are my favorite dinner (buffet) choices. The eggplant and Risotto are also another of my favorites. The variety of food that is offered is amazing. Ice cream waffle bar and zeppelins to top it off! The staff can not do enough for you. I don't want to repeat my previous review too much. The Brownstone has pretty much been the go to spot for as long as I can remember for any wedding, rehearsal dinner, baby shower, bar mitzvah, beefsteak and more. You can book your party day or night whatever day if the week and customize your meal and plan your event however you want. If you don't have a DJ, photographer or whatever else you need for your event, they'll recommend one. I just went for a wedding and was really concerned about being around other people. I know 2 of my friends friends and don't know his family or his soon to be wife's family. I didn't think they were going to have a cocktail hour and I didn't want to go because it seemed like a high risk situation and I didn't plan on mingling. I walked in on and was able to find a seat close to the door. I'm not sure if they even had a coat rack person or if the valet was there. Pre-Covid the brownstone would be looking to provide whatever service or luxury they could. I did notice the bathroom attendant wasn't there. I thought they did a good job of keeping the entry way empty so I could be safe and feel comfortable. They'll stagger the events and close off entry ways to make sure people are kept separate and everything is sanitized. Everything was beautiful! I'm not sure who did the flowers or how much credit I can give the brownstone for the appearance. I definitely can't credit them for how good the DJ was, how much my friends family partied or how much fun I had even though I only talked to a few people. I can give them credit for the food. Everything was perfect as always. The service was friendly, attentive and well timed. As soon as I had a little bit of salad and could smell the appetizers coming out, I regretted not showing up for cocktail hour! In fact I'm still mad! The drinks were mixed mixed just right nice and cold, while the desserts were warmed just right. I suggest you throw your next event there or RSVP yes to the next event. My family and I just left this horrible place! We were 17 people for Easter dinner. I wouldn't tell a dog to go there. Now I know why they make you pay before you go in. I would have walked out as soon as I saw the chaos right from the start. There were hundreds of cars with a lot of elderly people, and there was no valet. As you went in the front door, you noticed that the elevator does not work. The stair case was jammed up and coming down, if there ever was a fire, there would have been a big problem. That's when I knew this was going to be a nightmare. There was nothing but lines of people waiting for food. At one point, my son-in-law couldn't even get a dish. The food trays were empty. There was no silverware, they advertise, butler service of appetizers , there was none. My daughter asked for a Diet Coke. She never got it, and a cup of tea, she never got it. They absolutely overbooked, and they could not handle it. The place is a mess. To add insult to injury, I got locked in the bathroom stall. The door jam was so filthy that it got stuck. It made me go into a panic. They should have paid me to go in that place. If you like chaos, disorganization, rude wait staff that tell you they don't speak English, and you want to spend $1000 for garbage, this is the place for you. But if you know restaurants and you know food, you wouldn't step one foot into this place. They want you to leave a recommendation, there's not even a number. I wouldn't give it. I would give it a -10. Save your money. By the way, I was a server for 25 years in fine dining, I know what I'm talking about. I'm the first one to give a restaurant grace. I have been to many events here through the years and was always pleased but last night was outstanding! I attended the benefit for Halfway Home Animal Rescue. It was the FIRST all vegan event they have done and the food was perfection! We started with a "cocktail hour" that had peppers, stuffed grape leaves, olives, breads fruits etc. the salad course was delish nice fresh pears and a great dressing . Next was a butternut squash soup and then veggie ravioli. What a great job. The service was wonderful and they also have two beers made for them from a local brewery. read more

My family and I are here for Easter and it is an absolute shit show. From the minute we walked in it was disappointing. As packed as it is today there is no valet. The 2:00 seating is packed - it should have been staggered because they clearly cannot handle it. It was a zoo walking in and being absolutely bottle necked. The buffet line was disgusting- the line wrapped around the dining room, wait times were ridiculous and everyone in the line was beyond annoyed. Oh and there was no Diet Coke available. By the time my husband got up to the line there were no plates available - he ate dinner off of a dessert plate. Easter dinner was absolutely ruined. I was really excited when I was invited to a birthday celebration at this location, having heard about it for years. First, I was extremely surprised at the location this venue resides. I dont know the area well, but I'm not sure it's a place I'd walk alone at night. Secondly, the minute we arrived at the door, and I mean the minute, we encountered the rudest worker. We asked a simple question that clearly she didn't find simple or worthy a response. I just chalked it up as a one-off and proceeded into the venue. When we entered, I was less than impressed. The decor is extremely dated, albeit well kept. But I digress, as I was there for a party of a loved one, which is what mattered most. We had a smaller room on the second level. Many other events were happening at the same time, which is totally fine as one didn't seem to disturb the other. Now, it was time to eat. Food was buffet style, and this is where the "fun" began. The two ladies "serving" the food were a complete disgrace to the service industry. One snapped when we tried to serve ourselves while the other didn't understand why we were waiting to be served. All while holding rude faces of pure annoyance. I again sucked it up so not to ruin the day. Onto enjoying the party. Now, it was a rainy day but nothing extreme as it had been in weeks prior. We now had to contend with two buckets on the dance floor as we watched water come down from the ceiling. The manager didn't seem to find it a big deal. We made the most of it. The party was winding down, and the coffee carafes they had placed on the tables earlier had since gone cold. I politely asked the same woman who was at the buffet if we could have fresh pots of coffee. In that moment, she dropped a container of condiments and, in turn, sucked her teeth and gave me the nastiest demeanor, almost as if I caused her to drop what she was holding. At this point, I had had enough, and it seems other attendees had incidents themselves as we all chatted later that evening. I'm honestly glad I came here because now I know without question I will never host an event at this establishment, and I will make sure to let others know my experience. I work in hospitality, and your staff speaks for your business. Those two women spoke volumes to me and the other guests that we know The Brownstone is checked OFF our list for future events. On the surface, this looks like it was an amazing event space and still could be with a lot of care. The valets were the nicest employees, the other's didn't want to be working. Nobody came around the table to fill up water pitchers. Bartender was pleasant and made an effort. The food was good, not great. The pasta's were al dente but, bland. The short ribs were terrific. Penne vodka, chicken francese, chicken marsala, roasted potatoes, short rib beef, meatball that were freaking delish, calamari YUM, veggies like string beans, cauliflower, broccoli ...OMG all amazing... Could not recommend The Brownstone and Al Manzo more. From the amazing food including unlimited lobster tails to the private food tasting to working directly with Al, this venue is really a one of a kind. I continue to be told by my guests how great the wedding was and how amazing the food tasted. In addition, I've always hears stories of the bride and groom not enjoying their own wedding we couldn't have had a better night. We started in the conservatory for the ceremony then the smaller conservatory/bar for cocktail hour and finally ballroom for the reception. The staff was constantly bringing us whatever we needed or requested and really made the day stress free. We actually got to par take in our cocktail hour too. However, this time, the place was disorganized, no signage for guest to know where the right party was and the valet clown in charge was out front was "mother f**ing" & (worse profanity) swearing up a storm - talk about low class of standards After walking passed this clown, I went all the way upstairs with an XL gift only the find out the shower I was attending WAS OUTSIDE and around the side???!!! No signs. Then get to beautiful room and it's 100 degrees in there. The air conditioning wasn't working.. everyone was dying and I couldn't even stay for the entire party bc My hot flashes were triggered. This banquet hall was very remarkable especially going during the holiday season. There were 2 rooms upstairs I believe and a few on the lower level. I went here for a Christmas party and my thoughts on the food I had are below. The service was also tremendous. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Antipasto Platter - This consisted of dry cured meats, cheeses, olives, etc. It was a typical platter. I enjoyed everything except some of the olives. I was just not a fan. House Salad - The next course was just a house salad with a spring mix and tomatoes. There was nothing wrong with this. Pasta - This was a penne pasta with a red gravy. There appeared to be some meat present too. The gravy was very light and flavorful. Roasted Potatoes and Onions - This was solid. The potatoes and onions were cooked appropriately with the right amount of seasoning, probably just a simple salt, pepper, and olive oil. Vegetables - The vegetables consisted of cauliflower, string beans, carrots, and corn on the cob. This was my favorite dish. It seemed to be all cooked with some butter, but was not overdone. Roasted Chicken - This was roasted chicken pieces (thighs, wings, breasts). The chicken was cooked all the way through with a very light seasoning. It was okay. Roast Beef - This became cold real quick. The beef was cooked to a nice pink color with some brown gravy. The piece of meat was worthy, but the gravy was a little plain. Ice Cream Roll? - This was just vanilla ice cream with some green and red sprinkles. The sprinkles were sweet, which made the ice cream that much better. The Brownstone is a beautiful, historic building. Truly exquisite. However, the food was not good. At all. The appetizers were cold. The waiter missed salads at a few tables. We never got our pasta. When my dinner came out, it was lukewarm. Short ribs and filet mignon, with 5 French fries, a small onion and 2 stalks of broccoli. There was a woman in charge of something there. Not sure what, but she was a horrid, rude shrew. I heard her snap at a few different people. Terrible customer service. Been here a few times for various occasions. From baptism, communion and birthday parties, this place doesn't ever disappoint me as a guest! Prior to Covid, valet parking was available. Otherwise, there is a parking lot on premise for you to park. The outside scenery is just as pictured on their website. I've seen brides taking pictures all around. Inside you'll also find rooms just as the ones on their site. Most importantly the food. Two thumbs up! Buffet here is my favorite as their options is broad. Just went for my Brothers wedding and this place would have been great, but the way we were treated was completely disgusting. A day that was supposed to be seamless and memorable became a wreck when they were treated like second class citizens. Any venue you book for a wedding would give you a bridal suite to make it easier for the bride and groom, but when the couple arrived at the venue another couple was given the room they were promised. When they walked to the bridal suite that they were promised they were berated by the other guests, WHILE the maitre'd was with them and said nothing. They made my sister walk all the way around the venue in her wedding dress and climb multiple stairs to get to a different room. The bride was getting ready in the PUBLIC BATHROOM. THEY HAD MY SISTER GETTING CHANGED IN A BATHROOM WITH PEOPLE COMING IN AND OUT.... ON HER WEDDING DAY. Completely disgusting. They were sitting in the lobby the whole cocktail hour. When we called the next day to let them know we were unhappy about the situation, they called my sister an animal and to "Stick it". We attended a birthday party in the Grand Conservatory room last night and it was a wonderful event. The variety of food was delicious, plentiful and served by pleasant staff members. As for the seating, the chairs were comfortable and the place settings formal. The women's bathroom was spacious and clean but we had to walk down a full flight of stairs to get to it. That and a few tiles surrounding one of the sinks was partially missing and the faucets could use some updating. I didn't feel like deducting 1 star from my rating was right because everything else was so nice. read more

The wedding we attended yesterday (9/11/2022), had wonderful and abundant food. We sat at a table that also had abundant sunshine, that was unrelenting in cooking the people seated in front of the window. The management could not fix this, so from 1-5 Pm, we cooked. (Nowhere else to sit). Part two of this adventure was the bathrooms, located one floor downstairs. They were the only bathrooms, not handicapped access in any way!!! The wedding was held outside, and guests sat in the sun, without any benefit of an ez up, or shade ANYWHERE!!! (We all cooked)!! The father of the bride said, "Well, we were blessed with a sunny day"!! When the wedding ceremony was finished, on to the cocktail hour(out the front door, down the outside walkway up the stairs: after, to dinner REPEAT WALK & STEPS!). In all my years of attending affairs this was by far my favorite. The first thing I noticed was the staff and how accommodating they were to a random guest at one of the many parties they had going on. They made you feel like you were supposed to be there not just as a guest for the night. The second thing that made me love this place was actually the food. I never sit and have a meal at any catering hall. I tend to pick. Their mushroom risotto was so delicious I actually sat and ate. I would definitely consider having my next event here. read more
