Lovely venue! We attended a half indoor/half outdoor afternoon wedding here this past weekend. The ceremony took place in the ballroom indoors. It was a spectacular room - super high ceilings, spacious even with the socially distanced spaced seating, and lit with tall beautiful windows. Cocktail hour had great appetizer stations. The catering staff was polite and friendly, and the appetizer food was great! The entire space was brightly lit by floor to ceiling windows and beautifully backdropped by the gardens and greens outdoors. The wedding naturally led into outdoor patio space with stairs leading down to by the pond, where we had the remainder of the reception. I saw an outdoor fire pit not in commission, but I could tell it would be awesome in the evenings. The koi pond was beautiful and one of the best backgrounds for photos ;) Even the main course entrees were really good! I'm not sure if our party used an in-house caterer, but the salmon and steak was cooked perfectly! I would love to come back here for any occasion. Will definitely consider this venue for my own wedding LOL!!

The Valley Regency is AMAZING! I cannot say enough good things about this venue. It is absolutely beautiful (inside and outside), well-priced for all that you are getting, and the food is amazing! A lot of people told us it was the best wedding they have ever been to and people are still talking about the cocktail hour months later! All of the staff are great too,-very friendly and welcoming. We worked with Franco, Vinny, and Fabio and they all have great personalities and executed everything in a way to complete my vision. My bridal attendant Aurora was also the sweetest person and so attentive and I cannot say good enough things about her either. BOOK HERE NOW!!

I had my wedding here on 7/12/19 and I really cannot talk enough about how amazing this venue was! They're constantly renovating, so the place is always one of the most beautiful in NJ. My husband and I were drawn to it because of its amazing ballroom and the fact that they only do one wedding at a time. We worked with both Franco and Vinny during the planning process and they were outstanding. They were able to accommodate any request without question (we were able to get into the bridal suite when the venue opened, they procured every type of food we could think of, and most important, they were extremely pleasant and professional). The cocktail hour was INSANE. Wall to wall food and it was all delicious! I can't tell you how many people came up to us to tell us how it was the best cocktail hour they've ever been to. Danny, our Maitre D, had the party running like a well-oiled machine, and we didn't have to worry about a single thing. Last but not least, the bridal attendant, Irene, was an angel. She anticipated every need before I even think of it. She brought us a little bit of everything during cocktail hour, all 3 entrees for dinner, and even replenished our sorbet intermezzo when it melted due to us being outside for pictures. Not only did she make my day incredible, but my parents & husband said that she was catering to them all night at the same level that she was catering to me! If you're considering the Valley Regency, DO IT. You'll be in amazing hands.

EVENT VENUE REVIEW ONLY:…read more Last night, my husband and I attended a board meeting held at Van Vleck House & Gardens. I've driven past its gates many times over the years, but this was my first opportunity to visit Van Vleck in Montclair. The meeting took place at 6:30pm, but the hour leading up to it was allowed for check-in, picking up name tags, and a light cocktail hour with food and refreshments. The organization had the check-in outside of the main house's entrance way. When we walked inside, there were cocktail tables covered in white cloth and adorned with floral center pieces and tealight candles. There was a buffet table in one of the first floor rooms to the left. There was also a bar setup in that room, as well as some seating. The library was rearranged for another bar setup and more cocktail tables. The library has windows that let in natural lighting and there is also beautiful fireplace. The catering and bartending team did a great job. The food spread was high quality and delicious. My vegetarian husband gave two thumbs up for the butternut squash ravioli, mushroom penne, and goat cheese salad. The bartender in the library was great. The people offering hors d'oeuvres were all professional and kind. It was a lovely hour before the meeting. The meeting was held in the room where most likely wedding ceremonies or event activities take place. That night, they had a stage set up for speakers and performers, and white wooden fold-up chairs for attendees. The room acoustics are good. At this meeting, there was short musical performance from two string musicians, and you could hear every detail of the notes played (i.e. great sound). After the meeting concluded, attendees began to exit. There were desserts by the front entrance for people, which was a nice surprise. It's a very special venue. My only note would be - and it's because I'm always looking out for this stuff - the pathway from the front door to the gate opening has very low lighting. Our meeting ended at 8pm and it was already sundown. While my husband and I were fine, another attendee exclaimed how it was so dark. We offered the flash lighting feature on our phones to help her out and lit up the path to avoid any falls. This may not be the usual for events as I imagine many people have them during the day to enjoy the lush gardens and natural beauty of the property... but I'm just saying should this apply to you.

I give the team a lot of credit for pivoting when it was clear The Hudson Rose wasn't going to take, but Nutley still exists a few steps below Montclair and Maplewood in this regard. A post-pandemic restaurant needs certainty and needs to minimize the weird lulls that now exist in the dining calendar. Bacarosa had the product and service, but there just weren't the logistics to drive this kind of scale. Nutley's always been kinder to the smaller places on Franklin Avenue, and I think that's still where it sits as a dining destination. That's no fault of the staff or product, but that makes it very difficult to manage overhead on this space, quality, and staffing. I don't look forward to this space inevitably taking a step back to its Gondola/Peter the Great banquet hall days of yesteryear, but The Franklin Steakhouse set a poor precedent by moving from its cozy spot just north of here to a space that could hold two of its former locations. I wish this team the best and hope we see them in this corner of the county again sometime. Thank you for giving the place the quality it deserved, even if the traffic just wasn't there.
