Tell me why this place is advertising that they're closing??? After going inside, I'm thinking maybe because it's a hazard to allow this many people inside something they're calling a "gazebo." From the outside, it looks SO fun because literally everyone is inside. Then you get inside and realize you have entered a human sardine can. Back to back. Elbow to elbow. No room to move. Just wall-to-wall people with sweaters tied around their necks like a noose, looking extremely Nantucket and pretending this is enjoyable. HOW is this fun??? This place is as pretentious as the rest of the island. And then there's the famous Gazebo Mudslide. Please. It's a plastic cup full of frozen sugary chocolate milk, Hershey's syrup, and what tastes like a splash of Baileys, and somehow we're all pretending this is an actual cocktail. $15??? For a boozy Yoo-hoo??? Very Nantucket. Very trust fund milkshake. Very "my sweater has never actually been worn." And with the price of real estate on this island, I have another question: how are you affording to rent even this tiny slice of anything here??? Maybe that explains why they have to fit 400 people into 12 square feet. Honestly, if you're looking for a place where you can pretend you're having SO much fun while someone's elbow is in your ribs and you're drinking a $15 frozen chocolate milk out of a plastic cup, this is your place. I came here for drinks after reading they had the #1 mudslide on the island. It was good, but I don't see where the hype was. My friends and I also ordered food and it was just pretty average. Between four meals and 8 drinks, it was over $300 which wasn't worth the quality overall. The ambiance is fun and lively and staff is ok. I wish our waitress came by more quickly. Couldn't get a seat because the "manager" denied entry to our friend, who is a Navy veteran with PTSD, with a fully trained service dog. Our friends explained that the law requires the service animal to be granted full public access, and the manager continued to say only people with a disability may bring a dog in. This is discrimination and illegal. Even when questioned earlier today at another restaurant, a manager told their host of the law (when he said he had to double check with their manager), so it is not unknown to Nantucket. Nantucket local here.... used to love it, but absolutely bogus management. Refused us seats at the bar because of my fiance's service animal we have papers for and told us to go to the tavern. Went to the tavern and they said they wouldn't seat us which are both in direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Must grab the ceremonial gazebo mudslide to start off and/or end the perfect Nantucket vacation. I added a splash of espresso vodka to mine so it takes like mocha, but they also had a coco loco one that was also delicious. The music and liveliness of this place centered in the heart of the downtown area is perfect to catch up with friends and spend the day or night people watching. There is a restaurant nearby that sells the same menu but I highly encourage going to the gazebo for the full experience. The food was also great. I had a fish sandwich and was pleasantly surprised how perfect the flaky crispy fish topped with lemon and tartar in a brioche bun was! I loved their potatoe-y yet crispy fries too! Another well known favorite is the nor'easter drink, which my friend had with the chicken sandwich and kale quinoa salad. read more

f I could give a -5 rating I would. Stopped to have drink on July 21. My husband has a fully trained service dog always by his side for PTSD. She was wearing her service vest and her photo ID stating "public access required." The manager said we don't allow dogs. I calmly explained about our service dog. The manager then said we only allow dogs for people with disabilities. I said "yes, understood. That's why my husband has a service dog." Really?? It's 2021 and you still think all disabilities are clearly visible like some in a wheelchair or someone who is blind? How socially insensitive and clueless can you be? So I calmly smiled and offered the woman some much needed education. She just kept repeating herself that only dogs for those with disabilities could be allowed. It was obvious she was never going to get this simple concept. So incredibly sad that she refused to seat a Navy veteran who has put his life at risk time and time again to protect her precious freedom. I don't know how she can sleep well at night. Please do not patron this establishment. They are rude, untrained, and ignorant about the laws that protect our military veterans. So sad!!! read more

Just before the bricks meet the cobblestones on Straight Wharf and just steps away from the Hy-Line Ferry, is one of the coolest bars on Nantucket Island called The Gazebo. It is the only open-air bar where I could have a cocktail (a Gazebo Mudslide that was the best I've had) and smoke a cig in the bar. There is a HDTV, but people watching in historic downtown Nantucket by the harbor in summer was well worth the visit! (Recommend) read more

My friends and I decided to go visit some locals bars since a friend of ours rented a house for the month with their family. When we arrived outside we were all bantering and having good conversation until we walked in the bar. Everyone was let in except for my male identifying friend that had subtle glitter make up on his face. We politely asked the bouncers what was the issue if we were all of legal drinking age and did not cause any issues arriving. The bouncers rudely told us it was not our business, made us go in, and told our friend to leave. My significant other went back out the bar to ask our mutual friend if they had given him an explanation, but there was none. After my partner asked the bouncer what the issue was he responded rudely that it was none of her business and threatened her that he can do much more to them than not letting our friend in. After that my partner tried to go back inside to make a formal complaint with the manager for 1.) threatening her and our friend and 2.) not providing a reason for only denying one person in our 8+ group entrance, however the other bouncer touched her without consent pushing her forcefully from entering the bar before telling her she was not allowed in again. Not only did my significant other and friend get threatened but she got pushed before any verbal warning. Our group as whole at this point we're mad and fed up with the abuse and discrimination so we left. We were too concerned with my partners panic attack and crying to call the police so we went home. This establishment should do a better job at not hiring "bouncers" that harass and discriminate against customers off a fake power trip. Be aware, there is a server here that will pad the tip by adding more to your credit card (I was there on 6/14/21 at 5:56 pm and the server name on my receipt is Keith). Service is bad and the drinks are expensive. Management is basically non-existent and no one ever answers the phone if you try to call. Last night, my friends and I decided to stop by the Gazebo on our trip around town. One of our friends got denied entry, and the two bouncers refused to tell us why. I decided to sit outside and wait for our group, attempting to make friendly conversation as the night went on. The bouncers were not only rude, but one of them (he was white, wore glasses, had brown or grey(ish) hair, and stood between 5"7 and 5"8 with tattoo sleeves on both forearms arms) threatened to drown me in the dock after I asked for his name to which he initially replied "fuck you i don't have to tell you that shit." I proceeded to ask him in shock if he was threatening me, to which he replied (roughly) "yes I am threatening you and I don't give a shit." When I proceeded to try to go inside to tell my friends that we would be waiting outside for them, both of the bouncers got physically aggressive and grabbed me, pushing me down the stairs and out of the bar despite the fact that I was initially granted entry with the bigger group. I was able to get a picture of one of the men that manhandled me (a 5"7 girl) despite not giving them particular reason to touch me, let alone get physically aggressive at the bar. I asked them several times to get their hands off me, to which they just held on tighter to my arms in order to restraint me. Overall, terrible energy with a staff that couldn't give less of a shit about its customers. I wish I had literally anything positive to say but even their drinks were overpriced and small. Save yourself the time and energy - don't bother giving this establishment business. read more

The Gazebo is FUN. We went on the 4th of July, before the fireworks, and it was surprisingly uncrowded. The drinks were great (I had mostly gin gimlets and my friends got a variety of fruity blended drinks and mudslides) and relatively strong/well priced. The atmosphere and people watching are amazing. The bar is actually JUST A BAR IN A GAZEBO. What a brilliant idea? Right on the water and in the downtown area. Maybe the most fun thing I did in Nantucket. Or ever. read more

Tried to come here with my boyfriend to save some money on drinks. We're both 22 but look much younger and they humiliated us by accusing him of having a fake id. He had a Florida license and obviously the guy checking ids did not know anything about licenses from other states. They did us a favor because we went next door to BYB and had a much more enjoyable experience. Ordered a Grey Goose martini and the bottle had been completely watered down. Completely unethical and unprofessional to mix water into bottle to hide bar loss. A bar can perhaps hide watered alcohol when making a mix drink but not a martini. Typically it would take me 45 minutes to drink a martini due to alcohol content, the drink I was served was pure water. My opinion is the bartender was well aware the GG had been watered because he was casually trying to get me to order something else by saying things like "oh you don't want a martini in a plastic cup." an "we make great mixed drinks." The Gazebo is next to the ferry so feel the attitude was "tough we'll never see 99% of you again." If this review surprises the management then I highly recommend they start pulling random bottles and checking. I regret not saying something to the management but I was asked not to by my traveling companions so instead we just did a "one and done." read more
