    Chicken French
    Chanthadeth O.

I can not get enough of the Chicken French here. I have ordered this 3 times already and continue to keep wanting more. This has to be hands down the best in the Rochester area. It comes with bread and garlic butter (home made, I'm assuming) that is also spectacular. It is take out only and make sure to call ahead because they get a lot of business.

I have had the garlic pit for years. They've recently been out of the clams for aglio e olio. Tonight I made my own with penne, aglio e olio sauce, shrimp and mushrooms. I felt like I hit the jackpot. The mixture of all ingredients was just right. I will get that again for sure. I implore them to make it a menu regular. It was that good!

Pasta Carbonara - to go. Great for dinner and lunch the next day.

Why the five star you ask? Because sometimes simple is better. The way this restaurant has faced Covid & rebounded from other challenges is amazing. It is a small restaurant To begin with and like others they have had to go completely take out for now. They have done so while keeping a wide menu selection. They did not bow to impersonal online ordering methods with time constraints, limited options and long wait times. And most importantly they kept a high energy positive attitude in the face of adversity. The quality of food with takeout is still good (I have noticed other places where I can't say that ) and they have maintained fair and reasonable pricing which is more competitive than others. It's paying off! My wife and I have noticed the word of mouth positive vibe is quick spreading around town. Numerous times "The Garlic Pit" has come up in conversations during Covid and several people quickly share their "Me too" positive impression story. Keep up the good work Garlic Pit. Your making a difference, people are noticing and that is the type of advertising money just can't buy.

    Rainbow cake

I ordered the chicken Florentine and rainbow cake for desert for delivery Saturday night. The cake was delicious and tasted exactly like the napoleon cookie which was the goal. The Florentine was okay, it was my first having it when I didn't cook it so my opinion is very biased. I'm use to it being more creamy, this was mainly a butter sauce. It was good, the chicken was cooked very well and it's a large portion size just not what I am use to. The main reason for my 3 stars was the delivery time, it was around 545pm Saturday when I ordered so I expected a 45-60 min wait, once my order was placed it said it should arrive by 6:35pm however my delivery time changed several times (I was texted 3 different delivery times) and ended up being delivered at 7:30 pm, an hour after the original time. I fully understand that orders are cooked fresh and there is no Chef Mic in back but I would have appreciated a more accurate time estimate.

Picture this, 1989 Webster, New York, two girls enter a restaurant that looks like a soap opera set of an Italian eatery. They sit down at a giant table to eat giant bowls of underwhelming pasta on a plastic checkered table cloth. Ok, it wasn't 1989- it was today, but my guess is it hasn't changed! I had heard good things about the Garlic Pit when asking around about good Italian food in Rochester. I love the Rochester downtown version of Italian restaurant (i.e burrata and wood fired pizza with a few mains with an Italian twist). This is the exact opposite situation. The menu is all pasta and sauce with a few classic dishes. I gave it two stars because The Garlic Pit doesn't try to misrepresent itself in any way. We started with eggplant sticks, which were offered on the mixed appetizer plate, but they made them for us solo, which I appreciated. We ordered entrees which came with a salad and garlic bread. The salad was limp bagged lettuce with a few onions, a slice of cucumber and Italian dressing. The garlic bread was a bland sub roll with a smear of oil and very little garlic salt. This bread got much worse as soon as it was cold. Based on the name I expected garlic to feature prominently in the menu, the bread or at least in the air- not so. Entrees were the Penne Arrabbiatta and the Cheese Tortellini. The dishes were massive, and I may be alone in this, but I don't want a huge dish of food because I will absolutely waste it. I'll eat a bit and wrap it to be polite and then look at it in my fridge for a week and throw it out. I'd rather have a normal portion of good food. I think the Penne had easily a pound of pasta on it. The tortellini was smaller but the sauce didn't have a lot of flavor and the pasta was a bit over cooked. The service was great and the restaurant was clean, but we won't be back. I wish I had saved the $40 bucks and gotten a pizza!

Delicious.. huge serving... Comes with basic salad with Italian dressing and soft bread with a garlic butter... Calamari was delicious too. Would have given 5 stars but they didn't honor their coupon out of the Rochester Coupon book. We chose here bc of the book..

Right before my friend got there an older lady, a manager or maybe the owner told me I could only have my table for an hour. What? She showed me her reservation list. So?? It's not my fault that the restaurant was overbooked. I thought this was incredibly rude. My friend and I discussed going to another place and we were told that they would just make the other reservation wait until 6. My friend and I both worked in the food service industry for DECADES. I have never been told or told anyone they only had an hour to eat. We said we didn't want to feel rushed. I'm from out of town we were catching up. We were not planning on camping but an hour was simply not enough time. We are not rude so we ordered as fast as we could. We didn't ask for more time. We got garlic bread as an appetizer. They brought over some complimentary zucchini marinara or something. We both ordered chicken French and our food didn't arrive to our table until nearly 5pm. At some point the lady came to tell us that we didn't have to rush some other ladies were willing to get up. Thank you for letting us know, but it was incredibly tacky to tell us multiple times how long we could stay and what their plans were. And yet they still kept looking at our table making it very uncomfortable. We really only sat there for 15 minutes after our bill was paid. We were gone by 6. The original time we were told we could stay until. The garlic bread was okay. It was just their dinner rolls sliced in half and grilled/toasted. The Italian wedding soup was mostly vegetables (huge vegetable chunks). A few meatballs, some stringy chicken and a very few noodles. The broth was good. The chicken French was excellent for the most part. The spaghetti noodles were short. Almost as if they broken and impossible to twirl on fork to get a bite. It was messy, slurping noodles was so embarrassing. I ended up having to leave most of my noodles on the plate because I had to give up. It was a nearly $29.00 dish. I had specifically asked our server to put the garlic bread on my check since we were paying separately. She ended up splitting it between our checks. I wasn't happy with that. I wanted to pay for it myself. We tipped very generously each over 30% for apparently the huge inconvenience we caused. Giving this place a 4 is also generous. I'm not sure I would come back here again. For it being both of our first times coming here-the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. The ambiance is nice, the lighting is good but the whole debacle with being told how long we could stay and then "not realizing we had a reservation she thought we were walk ins. " The food presentation (huge obvious towel swipe on my dish-hope that was a clean towel and there wasn't any cross contamination), the soup may as well been called Italian vegetable soup and the short noodles making it impossible to enjoy a pricey dish... the dessert menu is also lacking. Maybe giving it a 4 is misleading.

After we parked the car, we walked in the back door of restaurant , off the parking lot, where we were faced with two flights of very steep stairs, so we decided to walk up the driveway in order to walk into the front entrance. Our table was ready for us and our waitress was wonderful. The bread with seasoned dipping oil was very good, as was the seafood bisque. The rest of the meal was terrible. I ordered scallops with homemade pasta, sweet peas, and prosciutto. The pasta was very greasy. It tasted like the scallops and peas were fried in bacon grease and poured over the pasta. There were 3 very small, flat scallops in my dish. The meal was very salty with crunchy pieces of bacon bits. As my meal started to cool off there were small chunks of grease forming on my peas. My friend's pasta dish was blah. As far as ambiance, the music was too loud, and the lighting was poor. it was difficult to read the bill. Very pricey meal for what we got. Not going back.
