This is a local establishment for me so I've been here many times over the years. It's a true Irish pub and the second best place short of visiting Ireland. The servers and bartenders all have a brogue and are super friendly. They used to have the most amazing crab cakes but it's now off the menu. Over the years, I've tried many of their plates which never disappoint. Last time there, I tried the wings - pretty yummy! I want to give 4 stars, but the value and spotty service brought it down a celestial unit. The good is that it is a very authentic Irish pub. With many Irish accents to be heard which is pleasing to the ear. Service was a little gruff from our lady, have had better in the past. Guinness is expertly poured and served and always tastes delicious, better than most places. But $18.95 plus tax and tip for basic nachos without meat ? Hellz no ! $8 plus tax and tip for well served Guinness is actually a good deal. read more

We were here just before the current November lockdown, and I must say what a great pivot to develop an amazing outdoor space - a new wooden fence, plastic covers for the openings in the fence, heaters - perfect place to enjoy a pre-lockdown outing. Drinks are very reasonably priced, and food is good pub food. We had a steak n mushroom pot pie and some wings. The pot pie had a lot of yummy steak though it was slightly on the salty side. Wings were nicely spiced and tasted great. Pity the new pandemic lockdown hit when it did, as it seems to penalize more the restaurants / bars that have invested in adapting to the circumstances. It's a double whammy for these guys. We wish Galway Arms the best and hope to be back to our neighbourhood bar very soon. read more

I really like this place. Can you tell? We have been coming here for a while. If you want a truly authentic Irish pub experience then look no further. It is run by a wonderful family (I know, very unexpected) and the name reflects their lineage. We usually drop in on Monday nights which is their "wing night" as they are 85 cents each. And last night they were great. As were the onion rings. We ordered 7 Cajun (dry rub) and 7 Texas Gold (saucy). Both were very well made and balanced each other off well. I tend to alternate when I eat to get to enjoy the flavour as new with each wing. Paired with a Mill street organic pint and, as mentioned, the perfectly cooked onion rings, made this a wonderful treat after our grocery shopping. I highly recommend this strategy as it makes us look forward to grocery shopping. The staff here are really great and will make you feel at home. Maybe even better than home! read more

2.5 stars This is definitely an Irish pub. The accent can be heard from the staff and most of the patrons in the bar. The staff appeared to know everyone there and all patrons knew each other. Most of the crowd was over 60 and clearly regulars. This is one of the few bars I ever felt out of place - I got the sense most of the older regulars were wondering what we were doing in their bar. In contrast, the staff were very welcoming. The pub looks very dated - lot's of wood paneling and older wooden tables. There is a patio in front with about 6-8 tables. Not a great view as its right on the Queensway. Also difficult to find parking. Service was excellent though. The bartender was extremely friendly and she quickly took all orders. You need to go up to the bar to place your orders. Even those sitting on the patio came in to order their drinks. Beer is clearly the drink of choice here. My fellow yelper ordered a Vodka & Cranberry and a Caesar which wasn't the greatest. The bartender couldn't even find the Cranberry juice. They have Guinness, Kilkenny, Stella, Harp and Canadian on tap. The Kilkenny was perfect, served at the correct temperature. Stick with the traditional Irish beers. This is my local watering hole, and it's everything I could possibly ask for in an Irish pub! Good food, a well poured pint of Guinness (amidst many other drinks) a great selection of beer, friendly local regulars - most of which are Irish immigrants themselves, and as the Irish say always a good craic. It doesn't get anymore authentic than that folks! So it was no surprise that when planning my evening festivities on St. Patrick's day there would be no question on my destination. With a live band playing, pints of Guinness lined up waiting to settle before being topped up and served and more whiskey pumping through the place than was reasonable, there was no question where I'd be spending my night. While I didn't eat here last night, I have had quite a few menu items including the fish and chips, burgers, an Irish stew and even shepherds pie on special once. Everything tastes authentic and gives you that warm and cozy feeling inside! Total comfort chow. The last thing I'll say about this place is the people. So many awesome characters who've been drinking here for years. Many of which, as I mentioned before, came straight from Ireland and the Galway was one of their first stops off the plane! I've lived in the area for almost 10 years and only noticed the Galway Arms a few weeks ago. Toronto definitely has a plethora of Irish Pubs and I honestly have to say this isn't the best in my opinion. The crowd seems like local regulars who like to chit chat with the bar tender, which means it takes FOREVER to get served. Although the Irish bartender who served us was very nice. The seating is old and the corner booth where I sat had lots of rips and patches on the cushion seat. One thing I do like about the Galway Arms is that they have a good selection of Irish beers on tap, including my favourite Kilkenny. But this is sort of expected of an Irish pub ya know? The menu is your standard pub fare with an Irish twist. They have nightly specials such as liver an onions (seriously, does ANYONE actually like liver?!) So overall, nothing wrong with the place really, it's just sort of meh = 2 stars in my book. But I'm giving it a 3 star because I aksed the bartender if I could buy one of their Kilkenny pint glasses, since I sort of "collect" these, and she said I could have it for free :) What a nice lady. You want authentic Ireland in your pub. You just found it! No - the tables and chairs aren't fancy. It's a long trek to the loo. The patio is tiny. But it's the best pint of Guinness in the land. You can always be sure to find the TV tuned into GAA (Gaelic Athletic association) broadcasts and there's always the noisy din of Irish accents to be heard. The food in itself is quite good. More like a home cooked meal than a restaurant outing. And where else in the city can you buy a bag of "crisps". Late last call makes it a favourite for late night locals. And you can always be sure of some fine Irish hospitality. read more

I went to the Galway arms today for lunch and couple pints with a friend. The service was friendly and efficient, however the ribs that I had today were quite below par. It was $13.95 for the special but when I dug into them they tasted like mold. To avoid a longer wait for my food (I was famished) I struggled through it, washing each bite down with my Guinness. The plus was that the fresh cut fries were great and the cole slaw was solid. It might had been an isolated incident and the rest of the food could be great but the ribs I had were not good. Not sure why the low ratings. two stars and below and people write "I'd come back again", "friendly staff" etc. Weird This place is what it is. An old pub that's definitely Irish and is very low key. My roommate is Irish and without knowing him said - "If ever you're stuck and need work or a place to stay just ask". I live nearby and drove by this place a hundred time if not more before finally going in. It's an old place, lots of wood and not too much for decor. But it's clean and it's not a dive joint. Great place if you want to watch a game and grab a cheap pint. Food I find is generally cheaper a bit than most other pubs and I've yet to be disappointed by my meal - standard Irish pub fare. The decision to go: Had driven by this place quite possibly 1000 times in the three+ years we've lived in the area, and never thought to go in. Sadly, we assumed it was a "hick" pub with mostly older, drunk, trashy types. We apologize. That was just the guess from the car and our opinion of many businesses along the Queensway. While sitting in the Chapters' Starbucks one recent evening, my partner was reading a magazine article that had mentioned this was one of the best Irish pubs around. He, being of Irish heritage, and us, loving alcohol, decided to give it a try. We came just after a Remembrance Day ceremony on a sunny, very warm November morning. Parked across the street at Harvey's, although could've parked right in front with the meter. Service: greeted pretty much immediately by a friendly, Irish waitress. (I wonder to this moment if she is part owner or staff, etc) because part of the above-mentioned article said that this place was owned by a male Irishman, so she could very well be a wife/sister/cousin, or just a fellow Irish immigrant. Atmosphere: standard, "wooden" British/Irish pub. We sat at a table by the door, where the front window was open because of it being such a warm day. The sun was beating in, it was so nice. There were only two men seated at one side of the bar, no one else at tables. (the place seems divided down the middle into two halves, but both halves identical). Menu: here's the funny thing. I knew in advance that Irish pub fare wasn't quite up to my vegetarian needs. I knew at least that I'd be able to order a salad and fries instead of an entree though. So on Sunday, they have a menu on the chalkboard, which is about a dozen items, having something to do with the football games that bring a large crowd into the pub mid-afternoon. I only saw nachos listed. I love my nachos and eat them at most pubs, but had been tired of them recently after having them twice in the last week. The waitress offered me their regular menu to pick from, since they weren't busy, and that was nice, but I still went with the nachos. I am glad I did. It wasn't that they were amazing or anything (like at an authentic Mexican restaurant), but for $7.95 I got a MASSIVE plate with lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, adequate cheese, sour cream, salsa, peppers, GUACAMOLE!!! Most pubs offer this exact place for double the price!! I was so shocked that I had to ask the waitress if this was their regular price or some special! It's the regular! I almost felt bad paying that for it, because when I make my own nachos at home, true I'm not getting it for wholesale, but they cost closer to $20 to make! That alone is amazing to me. Our full bill was $42 after taxes. My partner enjoyed his fish & chips (hallibut). He had a pint of Guinness and I had a pint of Coors Lite AND a pint of Harp. This place is going to be our regular hang-out in the near future, possibly for St. Paddy's Day even. Go back?? Um...HELL yeah. :) read more

Yuppies beware! This is an authentic Irish pub where the main drink of choice is ...what else? BEER! The service is fantastic, and the food not too bad for the price. I've been here a few times, the menu was tiny, regular frozen, deep fried stuff you'd find anywhere. I liked the atmosphere but the service was awful! We waited forever with empty glasses despite the place not being busy. We even went up to the bar for our drinks and were still ignored by the waitress who would skip us over to take care of other customers, presumably regulars, despite the fact that we had been waiting forever and they just walked up. I get that you want to take care of regulars but how are you supposed to build business when you ignore new customers? read more
