I needed to kill some time, and not being enough of a loser to actually line up at the Costco doors, I headed out onto the Queensway in search of that bold elixir known as coffee. Right there as you head west you may have noticed Bar Cavallino and Sports Bar on the corner and on the north side of the street. Usually you will see men hanging around out front, which is mildly deterring, but since it was the only place in sight that was open I was all in. Now I can see the attraction for these guys. Ok, so we all know that international soccer happens at weird hours and that's the excuse to be drinking beer in the morning at these places, but hey they have coffee too! The bartender was super hyped up here, which was great! It seemed he had a lot of coffee and was motoring around and ready to go at 8am which was refreshing. And, the best part was the prices were old-school yay! Gotta love cheap lattes, especially coming from King/Queen West where 5 or 6 bucks gets you one of these delicious drinks. But $3.50 is way easier to swallow and lets you have a couple of em instead of savouring just one. So next time you drive by here slow down and see if there's parking out front which was available when I was there in the morning and I didn't even have to plug the meter since it was before 9am, nice! Great spot on the Queensway and viva Italia!

The new location has two levels, a beautiful open concept floor plan and a large outdoor patio. We walked in on Saturday (World Series Game 2) and were seated immediately. They had another weekly event going on but that didn't detract from speed and service. The beers are fantastic, with some staples still on the menu from 2013! The Eephus, Wrigley, and Greenwood are original and exactly as I remember, but Ice Cold Beer, Tarps Off, and Oppo were delicious too! Gord and I had Pep & Cheese pizzas (10" New York style pizza, pizza sauce, Ezzo pepperoni, mozzarella, oregano and Grana Padano cheese) and we both took half of our pizzas home for lunch tomorrow. Rosemary had Mac and Cheese (creamy mac and cheese made with our beer and cheddar sauce, topped with melted cheese, shaved scallions) and Chicken Tenders - Kids Combo (3 kid-sized buttermilk marinated, panko-breaded chicken tenders; served with thick cut french fries, plum sauce and ketchup) ... the mac and cheese looked delish and she took half home but the chicken tenders were overcooked. Kevin had a Chicken Clubhouse Sandwich and fries (classic clubhouse sandwich served on 3 pieces of toasted white bread, stacked with grilled chicken breast, shredded lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, bacon, guacamole and chipotle aioli spread). Alfred had a Margherita pizza (10" New York style pizza, pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and Grana Padano cheese). Christine had a Chicken Caesar Wrap (grilled chicken breast, romaine, parmesan, caesar dressing, wrapped in a 12" flour tortilla) and took half home. Ocean was our server. She was friendly and took good care of us. For some reason, the 3 pizzas came out about 15 minutes after the other meals so they were almost finished by the time we started.

August 12/2025: Grad dinner for Garrett…read more At first, I thought this LOOKED like a great sports bar. Lots of seating, tons of TV's & what appeared to be a decent menu. Then it shifted to screaming "CHEAP"! We sat at the bar as the hostess said the seating was full but it looked FAR from full. It also didn't fill up during the time we were there either. Then I looked closer & many things fell apart. The service was slow, the food was both mediocre and had super small portion size. The draft beer size LOOKED big but in reality it was more like a 12oz pint with a really big mug. It was Taco Tuesday. The Tacos were $3.49/taco, beef or chicken. They were a decent size but virtually tasteless & the meat on both was completely dried out completely. I ordered the house signature wings, xtra saucy ($18.99) for a Pound. They should have been embarrassed by what they turned out! They were exactly opposite to what the menu said. They were TINY & almost devoid of sauce! I'm unclear as to what the obstacle is for saucy wings!? All in all...this is definitely NOT a do over or a recommend.

Review of The Canadian Brewhouse - Kitchener Location…read more Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 stars (Poor/Inedible) Our recent experience at the Kitchener location was extremely disappointing, marked by logistical issues, slow service, and significant quality problems with the food. First Impressions & Seating Upon arrival, the entrance area was poorly managed. With a party of five, there was literally no space to stand while waiting, which created an immediate bottleneck and awkward experience for both our group and others entering/exiting. Service & Drinks Once seated, we ordered drinks promptly. While the Diet Pepsi, Lemonade, and water were fine, the Club Soda was noticeably flat. Our food order took an excessive 45 minutes to arrive, and only after our server proactively checked on the kitchen's status. Food Quality - Major Issues The most critical issue was the quality of the food across multiple dishes. It was unacceptable. Items ordered: Spicy Hickory Burger: WAY overcooked/burnt. The taste of char dominated the flavour. The accompanying fries were the only saving grace. Canadian Burgers with cheese and bacon: The burger itself was burnt, and the bacon was burnt crispy. The sweet potato fries were soggy. Creamy Chicken Alfredo with mushrooms: Minimal chicken (only 1 sliver initially). When a replacement chicken breast was provided, it was burnt. Creamy Chicken Alfredo (no mushrooms): The pasta itself was mediocre ("meh"), but the portion of chicken was generous, receiving the fewest complaints from our party. Chorizo Mac and Cheese (new menu item): Inedible. The flavour was utterly appalling--metallic and burnt, tasting like "dirt sautéed in a dirty pan." I had to spit it out. The pasta also featured pieces of unmelted cheese, indicating poor preparation. We also signed up for the app (before we got our food) to get the free appetizer which was a cheesy garlic bread. We got it with marinara for take home. After you peel off the burned bacon and cheese layer, you're left with a decent pizza dough to dip in decent marinara. Conclusion The pervasive issue of burnt food (affecting three out of five entrées) and the truly inedible quality of the new Chorizo Mac and Cheese indicates a severe breakdown in the kitchen. Combined with the cramped waiting area and slow service, we cannot recommend this location and hope management addresses these fundamental quality control issues immediately. On the bright side, our waitress was nice. We will never eat here again.

There are also nightly and weekend happy hours, but we came here after work. - The white sangria is awesome! My former manager reached out to me about a few work-related questions. It was nice hearing from him. It's my usual self to ask if he'd like to go out for a meal. He was game with either the two of us, or past and current writers. I went with the latter, as it would be nice to have a happier meetup than what we did in November when he was let go. I hadn't been to Earls in a long time. I was a fan of this western Canadian chain when I lived in Winnipeg. Back then. it wasn't as upscale as it seems to be these days. The food was yummy and I liked dropping by. I asked him if he was good with this Earls across from CF Sherway Gardens. He was. There were a total of four folks who said yes. Another colleague said that he'd drop by to say hi. I didn't account for him in the reservation, as he'd be there briefly. I reserved online through OpenTable. It was party of four for 4:30 pm. It was great getting the occasional text message to confirm that we were still good to be here on a Wednesday at 4:30 pm. I was the first to make it here. I had no problem finding a parking spot and backed into an available one. I walked into the eatery. I was greeted by a friendly woman. I said that I had a reservation for four under my name. She found me and led me me to a booth. I looked at the happy hour menu. Red and white sangria were available. I went with the latter. It had peaches and oranges in it. It was delightful. We got water with ice. I waited for my friends and colleagues to arrive. Two of my friends had arrived, followed by the hi-and-bye friend. Two of them looked at my white sangria and order the same thing. Our other friend got a Moscow mule. My former manager texted me. He said that he was stuck in traffic on the 401 and he'd be late. I said that we'd be here. He eventually made it. Yay! He saw that most of us had sangria. He ordered the red sangria. Alcohol does hit him fast. Luckily, we were here for a few hours, so it eventually wore off. Even our server asked if he was okay, which was kind. Service was great. Our female server was attentive, making sure that our water was refilled and we were good. The manager came over and was looking for me. He said that to thank me for my "loyalty," he wanted to give us a complimentary Nashville crispy chicken and pickle skewers. I said that I wouldn't say no to free food! This appetizer was excellent. The pickle was a bit spicy. The crispy chicken was tender and not spicy. It was such a nice gesture. Our table got these items: - Baja taco (me) - Szechuan shrimp and pork dumplings (me) - Aburi salmon sushi press - Clam chowder - Bigger better burger with fries - Truffle tortellini I loved my baja taco. The fish was generous and flaky. It had a light, crispy batter. It was delicious. The szechwan shrimp and pork dumplings were excellent. The chili sauce had a ton of flavour. My former manager's aburi salmon sushi press needed more flavour. This place doesn't have wasabi. Instead, I said to dip his sushi in the szechwan sauce. He did and said it was much improved. I got to try a bit of his sushi and I also dipped it in the sauce. Yummy! My friends loved their meals. Everything was off the happy hour menu, except for the truffle tortellini that looked amazing. For dessert, we got these items: - Lemon meringue pie - Sticky toffee chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream Our friend had left, so we were a table of four. We devoured both desserts in five minutes. It was quite the feat to witness! The lemon meringue pie is seasonal. It should be on the menu all the time. It was fantastic. The lemon had the perfect tartness. The meringue was light and perfect. The sticky toffee chocolate pudding was moist and decadent. We loved the vanilla ice cream and the crispy wafer. Since I'm the fruit person, I had all the sliced strawberries. So good! We got separate bills. I paid with a credit card at the table. I tipped and tapped. Done! A few of us used the washroom before we left. The women's was clean and inviting. No complaints! My former manager was waiting outside. He noticed that my car was still there. It felt like old times chatting for a bit before heading our separate ways. The food and drink were excellent at this eatery. The company was perfect. Service was wonderful. I'd return here for more good eats and drinks. (147)

The kale and mushroom pizza that I had just a few months ago, has changed. Now, it's overcome by a thick layer of cheese, while the scant sprinkle of mushrooms and kale had zero flavour, and the usually amazing crust was dry and too hard to eat. The Nashville chicken sandwich was ho-hum at best. Over-fried, not much flavour and no sign of the promised Nashville spice. Sad to see the tofu tacos have left the menu, and hoping Earls can get back to consistently good food. Tip: Order the crispy tofu appetizer as your main. Best plant-based item on the menu. Our whole group (omnivores and herbivores) devoured these!

They always put the leafs game on when they're playing which is Mae's them a reliable game spot. Over the past couple of years I felt their food quality has slowly declined but today was different. Way exceeded my expectations. We started with a corona zero and ranch water (passion fruit flavour) we were both really happy with it. The didn't skimp on the tequila. We started with the Brussels sprouts which is always a great choice from here. Crispy on the outside and not an overwhelming Brussels sprout taste. This is likely because there is a generous sprinkling of grated parm and a great amount of dip. We tried the crispy tuna sushi. The tuna was beautifully marinated, so flavourful. And the sushi was nice and crispy. The vodka pie was a seasonal item and when we saw it listed, we knew we needed to try it. The sauce- amazing, the press was nice and flaky and light and really tasty. And the soccer Sada added nice saltines and flavour without being too overwhelming. For happy hour, the apps and pizzas were $5 off, and the ranch water was $5. I'd come back for the pizza alone! Jeans was our waitress and she was great!

This is the kind of place you go when you want to step away from overly fancy burgers and just enjoy something classic that works. I ended up trying most of the lineup, and honestly, there is not a dramatic difference between the Automatic with Cheese, Bacon Cheese Automatic, and Golden State. The builds are fairly similar, which is not a bad thing, just something to note. The standout for me was the Hotomatic with Cheese. The hot pepper slaw had more heat than expected and added a real kick between the patties that made it memorable. If I had to recommend just one, it would be either the Automatic with Cheese or the Golden State. Both are clean, balanced, and hard to mess up. My biggest obsession here is the fries cooked in beef tallow. There is something about them that instantly brings back the taste I remember from childhood. If anything, I just wish they came in a larger portion. One small letdown was the Bacon Cheese Automatic. While the burgers overall feel thoughtfully assembled, the bacon felt oddly disconnected, almost like it was added as an afterthought. Instead of blending in, it stood out with sharp saltiness and threw off the balance a bit. That said, this place does exactly what it sets out to do. Simple, nostalgic, and executed with care. I will gladly be back.
