Tried this place, with my husband, for the first time on July 29th, 2026. And I have to say that my TASTEBUDS HAVEN'T BEEN THIS HAPPY IN YEARS! I was so ecstatic about my food [I ordered the Lox & Loaded] that my husband Got excited for with me (a wonderful thing after 36 years of marriage)! I probably should have written this review immediately after but, well...life, you know, so I'm not as clear on the details just now But here is the description from their menu: Cold-smoked salmon, scallion cream cheese, smashed avocado, roasted tomatoes, cucumber, pickled onion, fresh dill, and a soft over-easy egg on a toasted everything bagel. Mixed greens. It was a bit messy to eat but oh how I enjoyed every bite! I don't remember what my husband ordered but I believe he was happy with it. While there, I learned there's a Friendly Toast restaurant closer to our home in Nashua so we went to that location some days later, bringing our son along...but that should get its own, separate, review. The servers were friendly, and there was toast! Being from the west coast, my husband and I weren't familiar with this chain of restaurants. We had a great weekday breakfast here. They have an extensive menu and so many fun "flights" of different kinds of drinks. Even though I didn't partake in them this time, it was fun to see all the options. I had a car repair appointment in the area and opted for The Friendly Toast since it's fairly well known. To start off, the staff was really friendly and cheerful. I was seated at the bar, which left me in earshot of the kitchen loudly calling out orders. The eclectic decor is really fun. Neat pop art stuff from many decades are up on the walls and shelves. The food was a let-down. The brioche for my sandwich crumbled and made it a challenge to eat. The waffle fries were okay, but one of them tasted so bad I had to spit it into a napkin. I ordered the you bowl me over and it was pretty good. The flavor combos paired really well I thought the sauce would be overwhelming but it was not. We had a very friendly waitress that was attentive. I love the vintage diner feel that they have going on, it reminds me of a comic book. read more

We had such a wonderful experience at The Friendly Toast on Father's Day (6/21/26). Our family of six visited during an incredibly busy time, and the restaurant was absolutely packed. Because of the large crowd, our food took a little over an hour to arrive. We checked on our order a couple of times, and the staff kindly let us know there would be a delay. We completely understood the situation, and no one in our family complained. We enjoyed our meal, and at the end, our server surprised us by letting us know that our entire meal was on the house because of the wait. In all my years of dining out, I've never had a restaurant make such a generous gesture. It meant a lot to our family and speaks volumes about the way The Friendly Toast values its guests. Their hospitality and willingness to go above and beyond turned what could have been a simple delay into an unforgettable experience. Walked in to this very busy place and it seemed to have a waiting line . I told the girl 2 people and she said 10 min wait ok , I replied. People are constantly coming in , all I could hear was how many ? No one seemed to have a reservation. But they were seated down 3 and up people. . I'm still waiting.. ten min are up and still waiting. Why did this happen? Why did the groups of 3 and 4 groups got seated , and not two people?? They had plenty of open clean tables . My mind goes to the money . They probably thought they would make more money on 3 or 4 groups of people than 2 people. That's not right , a personal thought . First time there and last time. Fun inside, has a mix of adults and young children. The service was good. The food was really good, the bagel sandwich I got was delicious. The mimosas were fun to try but I wouldn't get them again, I wish they let you mix and match the drink options for the flights. Overall I would go again. Swimming the wattress had to have told the manager she came right over if there was anything she could do and the wattress showed how it was not on the bill. Great location for this restaurant, we have been to this location only twice, but the staff and food were fantastic both times. Good music always playing is a plus. My only reason to taking away one star is the menu change. We really miss the fun, unique take on breakfast food, the cinnamon sugar Rice Krispie coating on the chicken, it was our favorite little treat, & now it's gone. Along with everything else we loved. The new menu is a little lackluster. While the food is still very good, the unique options are gone. If I wanted an eggs benny or breakfast burrito, I could literally go anywhere. No one else has items like the friendly toast used to, so I hope they listen to the community and bring back the old menu options. read more

There are several locations and we hit 2. Nashua and Bedford NH. Things a review for both. Queer o meter for this funky throwback retro brunch joint is a solid 10. Most excellent. Out do the gate, you should know they have a call ahead waitlist, which is recommended. This place seems to be hopping all the time. The music is loud and of a throw back era. There was some ABBA playing loud and proud, which I loved. The portions are big and the prices for what you get, IMO, is reasonable. Fresh ingredients, customizable and delish. Our table got a rice bowl, banana pancakes, chicken and waffles and a classic breakfast. We also indulged in some adult beverages, a pickle Bloody Mary, a flight of mimosas and some iced coffee boozy drink. Not cheap but worth the $, they don't skimp of the alcohol or size of the drinks. All the food was great and flavors spot on. They were also very accommodating when replacing the eggs for more "over easy". A very gracious and kind waitress. The banana pancakes had the banana right in the batter, which is hard to get these days and was accompanied by it own small bottle of real maple syrup. Again yummy. Note that if you want extra syrup those bottle cost $3. No other option of a lower grade tabletop kind. The rest of the group loved what they got, and I'll take their word for it. I didn't dive into their food, as much as I wanted to! Again, not cheap but I think reasonable for what you get and adult drinks always jacks the bill up. It averaged about $30 per person. Despite being a busy morning, we were seated with in 5 minutes. The Ambiance was great with a combination of indoor and out door scene. The restaurant is decorated with old school images and posters all over. Loved the vibe. Our server was great and the drinks / food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered a flight and each drink was unique and tasteful. Highly recommend this spot. Truly folks, Don't waste your time. Date of visit Saturday August 22nd, 2026 around 12:30 PM. We were told a 15 minute wait, ended up sitting at the after about 20 minutes went by. The male bartender, probably in his 50's took our order - keep in mind it wasn't overly busy. We got our coffee and soda then waited, waited, waited - 30 minutes went by, two simple meals. When I said something to the bartender he "barked at us", we just had a table of twelve, not "hey, I'm sorry we're busy but I'll check on your food" - just a rude unprofessional response. People like this shouldn't be dealing with the public, put him in the back room doing dishes! - and oh btw, we noticed the party of twelve when we walked in and their order took nearly an hour, they had ordered by the time we came in and we were there an hour. Long story short, the place lacks a respectful staff (at least the bartender - send him packing) but the others seemed nice but were far from attentive. We left without eating after an hour we will never get back thanks to the unfriendly toast wasting our time. Stay away unless you thrive on frustration. read more

Unfortunately, the Friendly Toast has changed. What was once an exceptional unique eatery has now changed and not for the better. The menu is much reduced, constrained, and lacks it's earlier inventiveness. I've been going there for years and just recently has been most disappointed with its change in much smaller menu and drawn out service. I've recommended this place for years to all that visit Portsmouth.... now....no longer will I recommend this as a place to eat. Myself and another long term patron will not go back. Staff are incompetent and don't care about the customers. They removed me from waitlist after waiting for over 40 minutes. When I asked what happened I was told I could be put back to the end of the waitlist and wait another 40 minutes. If you want to wait for 40 minutes and leave hungry this is the place for you! Service was great. Friendly, smiling faces. The food left a lot to be desired. I ordered the avocado toast with "smashed avocado and marinated tomatoes". First, the toast was clearly burned. The avocado was not smashed and there was nothing at all marinated about the tomatoes. It would have been far more enjoyable if the toast was toasted and not burned and the other ingredients as described on the menu. I didn't send it back because they were super busy and my companion was served his food at the same time and while it was somewhat lack luster looking, he said it was good. We came last month in October on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. We've been to other Friendly Toast locations, but this was our first time here. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly and pointed out the specials that were unique to their location. I ordered one of them, it was breakfast tacos that combined sweet maple and savoriness and it was an absolute delight. My espresso martini was also delicious. My husband has a gluten allergy and was able to find something he enjoyed as well. We had a great visit, and would love to visit this particular location again. Highly recommend! read more

Lots of menu choices for drinks and food, including seasonal specials. We landed on mimosas, the chorizo eggs benedict, and the classic breakfast. Service was prompt, friendly, and everything came out as ordered. The chorizo on the Benedict was delicious. Sour dough toast was tasty as well. My only item was the cost for menu items. For instance, one pancake is $9 and two is $14. Our bill for breakfast was $51. The location and space within the strip mall probably the reason for the increased cost. Would we come back? Breakfast is above and beyond, with the freshness, flavors and presentation you'd expect with professional chefs. The name doesn't lie. Everyone there is so very friendly and their friendliness seems to be contagious, spreading from their workers to brighten up the spirits of their customers. Particularly embodying their name "friendly" is our favorite waitress, Gena. Gena is a master at reading our moods, seeming to know when to give us space for our own conversation and when to engage with us, brightening our day. With a warm, friendly smile, Gena doesn't hesitate to open up and share her own life and always seems to know the right things to say. One of my favorite breakfast stops in the Manchester area. This time, I tried something different. It was a little "quiche" with a crunchy tater tot/hash brown crust. Super tasty!
