A pretty nice spa located in the riverside square mall. Besides the massages, I definitely would recommend a whirlpool bath. The rooms are private and spacious and have a very relaxing environment - it's the perfect way to start your treatments! I also like the central waiting room people relax in between treatments. There's some light food and beverages for everyone to enjoy as well as magazines and lots of comfy chairs/sofas. The waterfall is also a nice touch. Makes you forget you're at the mall and near a parking deck. Some tips.. regarding massages in general.. don't ask for a harder massage than you can handle.. I thought it would be more beneficial for me to receive a harder massage to get those massive knots out of my back, but days later I was regretting it. Unless you go at least once a month for a massage.. I suggest you just get a nice relaxing one in lieu of trying to get any knots out if they're severe. The hot compress they put on my back was so hot it felt like it was going to melt through my organs. The Fountain Spa is a decent place but i'm just a bit annoyed and wanted to write a review because i really don't think it's fair! I had an appointment scheduled for a certain time but unfortunately i got lost and got there late. While trying to find the place i received a call from the Spa and the person on the other end helped me with directions but also mentioned that since i was a few minutes late, it would cut into my "scheduled" time for a particular service. Which is fine and i don't mind. I'm really annoyed because after spending most of the day there, one of my services ran about 20minutes late but no one came to say anything to me until i asked someone (a worker). Finally going in, all i got was "sorry, we running a bit behind schedule today". So is that fair? NO i don't think so!! read more

I have been to the Hackensack location 5 different times and every time I was very happy with my visit. I have gone for both massages and facials and they were wonderful. I alway lock my rings and personal items in the lockers there and keep my key with me at all times and never had an issue. I have found the staff that checks you in and get you settled to be nice and easy to deal with. Those who give the services are professional and knowledgable of their areas. I love the tranquility room. I find it very relaxing. Also the previous poster mentioned you are looking at the parking lot, but I have never seen that. One hour massage is really a forty minutes massage at the fountain spa. There's lots to say about this place, mostly good but just be ware. It's a really nice get away. They give you the opportunity to enjoy their beautiful facility, however when it comes down to the actual service I was disappointed that my massage was cut so short. One hour massage was forty minutes long only! It shouldn't have been a minute shorter. People wait for this moment! I know I did. I was in desperate need for a massage and wanted so badly to enjoy it. And unfortunately the other down fall was that not only did I order a deep tissue massage, but I also expressed to the Masseuse that I like it hard and that I need it to be deep as my back is really hurting me. I treated myself to a body scrub, wrap and massage for my birthday. The facility and service was fantastic. My therapist, Debbie, was great, and went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable. It's in the lower level of Shops at Riverside, which is a fairly calm mall. I had a floatation wrap which is basically being slathered in lotion then sunk into a warm waterbed, so it's like being in a cocoon. It was so relaxing and awesome. I'd definitely come back for another one of these wraps. The only downsides are that the dressing area/locker room is a bit cramped and there was an obnoxious woman chatting loudly on her cellphone in the lounge- when there are multiple signs around the area asking to be respectful of others. Just had a mother-to-be massage with Debbie and it was fantastic. The facility is beautiful. First, you're given a (cozy) robe and rubber slippers. Then, you're brought to the locker room which I should mention is completely spotless. Plenty of storage for your bag/jacket in the lockers with a PIN number for security. Lovely steam room and huge private showers. There are a bunch of complimentary toiletries for use as well: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, shaving cream, razors, shower caps, spray deodorants, hair tools, Q-tips, etc. Everything you need! Next, I went back to the lobby to meet my masseuse and we headed to the massage room. It was such a relaxing atmosphere. Dim lighting, soft music, just perfect. I got a little short of breath and dizzy during my massage (keep in mind that I'm due quite soon), and Debbie was so comforting and helpful all the while. She made sure I felt better, and the rest of the appointment was just wonderful. If it wasn't for this big belly, I would swear I wasn't even pregnant anymore. That's how good I feel after my visit ... my body's like new! Lucky for me, I was given a gift certificate for my birthday, but I honestly would pay for it based on how amazing I feel. This review pertains only to their waxing services. A lot of my friends rave about this place but I felt it was just okay. As far as their services go they're pricey, but this is to be expected in Bergen County. More than on one occasion I went for a wax and I had to tell the girl about how much hair she was missing. It wasn't an ideal situation- anyone who is waxing you should know what they're doing already. When you go for a wax you have to walk through a long corridor which leads to a waxing room(s) and on the way I saw a lot of "other"services being performed. I don't like that setup too much because more than once I've heard staff talking or other patrons cell phones ringing and the sound echoes throughout the hallway- not such a big deal for a wax but I'm sure people getting facials or massages don't appreciate it much. The last thing I didn't like was that on my way to my last wax (and this was a while ago because I go to another place now ;) I saw a gaggle of people (at least 15) milling around in one of the spa rooms. The door was open but it was a least 15 men and women all in robes and I didn't know whether or not that was a group or just how Fountain Day Spa cattle's their customers around. If I went for spa services I'd like a more ...enclosed experience than that. However, I will say friends have been to this place for their spa services and they rave about how amazing it is. After receiving a large gift certificate to the Fountain Spa I decided to give it another chance, but after my last experiences I decided it was time to leave a review. I stopped going to the Fountain because it was not only over priced, but very dated. You can find more bang for your buck at SOJO, or Spa Castle Premier. These establishments may seem more pricey at first glance, but after comparing services it equals out. I found it rude that everyone is allowed to use the locker room but not every package allows you to shower or use the steam room, which is about ten feet away from the lockers. Makes no sense when other spas offer a pool or whirlpool as part of their entrance fee. Not only was the decor dated and sterile, their packages really don't seem appealing. As many people stated in their reviews, the hour massages are 50 mins, this is not mentioned on their website, WHICH IS ALSO DATED. Try to look up a service or package, and you will find the world's most lame description accompanied by google search images. Welcome to 2018, join us. During my facial, the technician kept trying to sell me products by asking me what I use, recommending the line the carry, and even trying to switch the facial I asked for. I found this annoying because it was no longer relaxing, instead I felt on guard having to deny all the upgrades and product suggestions. I went two times and tried different massages, much to my surprise there was pretty much no difference between deep tissue and relaxation, how is that even possible? It literally felt like the same massage! I even asked when I was leaving and the woman at checkout couldn't care less but was passionate about me adding the suggested gratuity... which I did because I'm not one to cripple a person's livelihood. SO today, it's almost noon, the day AFTER the snow storm, they're closed, no call, no warning or cancelling apts, nothing on their website. Really nice steam room and showers, disappointing massage. The locker room area was really nice, clean and all items were kept safe with a lock that you create a code for. As you wait for your name to be called they have a lounge area where you can have tea, water and some food. My masseuse was 5 minutes late to begin with and ended about 15 minutes early. I had received the hr long deluxe package as a birthday present so I was disappointed with how they cut it short. She also would just stop at certain points where it was noticeable she was trying to kill time. If you want a "spa experience" go here. I caught a really bad back spasms and was in so much pain. The next day I could not move I was hurting terribly. I came to the Fountain Spa and they were so welcoming. I immediately was taken in. I don't know how to spell his name but "Lewis or Louis" was absolutely amazing. He listened to my complaints and worked magic on my back. He gave great advice on what I can do to take better care of my body. His hands were absolutely magical and he really worked out that spasm. I was so relax and felt so good. The pain subsided some, but by the next day there was absolutely no pain at all and I was able to function properly again as if nothing happened. My best friend and I came here last weekend for manicures. I usually get gel manis, however, here they are priced at $50 (insanely expensive and double the price I usually pay). My friend was using her gift card so I just went with a regular manicure. It's been about a week and my polish is still pretty much in tact with just a few chips so I'm impressed. I couldn't tell if my manicurist was annoyed that she was at work on a Sunday or just didn't like me. She was not very friendly and was not interested in having any small talk with me. She also listened very well to my concerns and knew exactly what to do. She was very personable and always asked questions if I'm okay with the products she used. They never called to reschedule or at least mentioned they were closing. We were left in the mall with nothing to do. needless to say her bday was ruined. My daughters and I had a spa day and someone recommended The Fountain Spa We went to the one in Hackensack. I ordered lunch for us. After 30 mins of waiting for service I asked if they forgot us. I would have skipped ordering in for a $12 fruit plate. The Serenity room was not serene but any means. Noisy, loud and crowded room more like it. I don't mind paying to tings but for the amount I paid I expected much more. When someone is there to relax and get away for a bit, they should not have to hear sales pitches and how terrible skin is. There are many more places one can go for spa treatments. I did like Kathy who did my mani/pedi. The best part was spending time with my girls. I was just very disappointed that they did not relax and enjoy themselves as much as they could have. read more

I never write reviews unless the place is well deserving of one. This was my first time at any spa, and the staff was helpful in showing me the ropes. I arrived thirty minutes before my appointment to utilize the showers and steam room. The spa itself is on the basement level of Riverside, so it's very secluded and could be a bit hard to find if you're unfamiliar. I made an appointment for the clarity facial, as I've been struggling with my skin for a bit now & my dermatologist recommended a facial. I work at one of the shops in the Riverside Mall so I figured I'd give the Fountain a try. My esthetician was Annette P, and she was wonderful. After looking at my skin, she changed my treatment to the rebalancing facial. I completely understand because I don't have many pimples; I have closed comedones which needed extraction. She massaged and exfoliated my face, all while steaming it. She also massaged my hands and feet, wrapped them in plastic, and inserted them into some type of heating machine. Whatever it was, it was pretty relaxing. After this, with an extractor tool, she extracted EVERY comedone on my face. It was painful (at no fault of her own) but definitely was relieving. After, she applied a mask that was tingly for the first few minutes, and left it on for around ten minutes. After it was removed, she examined my skin for a bit more, and concluded the facial. My skin was red afterwards, which she said it should subside by tomorrow, and said I should see results in two days. On my way out, she gave me a sample of the mask to last me two trials, which I thought was very sweet. All throughout, she gave me suggestions on skin products and how to care for my skin. I had a great experience, but the final test will be how my skin looks within the next week (which I will update). read more

Such a fan, from check in to check out Julia was so professional and accommodating. She greeted us and checked us in with ease with a brief explaining of where to go to begin our massages. We arrived a half hour early for our appointments, and Maria the towel lady guided me to the locker room, she was so sweet and quite funny. She said that I could enjoy the steam room all to myself since no one was there and gave me a warm smile. She was honestly very sweet. From there I went to the tranquility room and enjoyed a cute bite sized buff in and some iced tea. There were a few women in the tranquility room enjoying their tea and apples and muffins. They were filming a commercial when we were there, but they were so quiet I hardly noticed them. Besides there being huge lighting apparatus' everywhere lol My massage therapist Christina greeted me promptly and right on time. Introducing herself, very professional but also warm and inviting like I had knew her for years. Her massage was great, perfect pressure, and I am sure I feel asleep quite a few times. She had asked if I was enjoying the massage and if the pressure was ok midway through the massage to assure I was happy, and that was very nice of her. Since, some therapists honestly don't care, and won't bother asking. She also stated at the very beginning of the massage that if I didn't like the massage after 10 mins to let her know and I won't be charged. which is new, but definitely a great policy to have. Upon completion of my massage, Christina walked me to the tranquility room, she briefed me on my problem areas and what the tenseness in my back which I find to be an added bonus and I believe ALL therapist should state this. Will definitely be coming back no doubt about it. I honestly have no idea why all these negative reviews are about. Maybe change in staff since then? Either way, it was a wonderful experience. If you're looking for a relaxing time, I suggest coming here. I needed to get my lash extensions done and my friends have recommended me to Anita so I decided to give it a try. I tried making appointments, and the reservations department accommodated for us which we had no issues at all. At first, it is confusing to get to the spa because it's not located on the main floor so you would have to drive past the PF changs and there is a parking garage behind it...Take the lower level. Once you're inside the spa, the check in desk are very polite and gave me a ticket for the services. I usually wait at most five minutes, but she will meet me in the lounge and walk with me to the room which is very nice. When I got my lashes done she was so gentle and it did not feel like she was putting anything on my eyes! I was extremely satisfied with the results! She made my lashes look natural but full! I have also gone three weeks before I needed a touch up and it still looked like I had a lot! As I checked out they were very nice to me. The whole vibe of the spa was very calming and all the employees were very nice and accommodating. I'm hoping to return soon to check out their massages! The hackensack spa location has really lost its touch. I made a reservation for a mother to be massage and a mother to be facial right after. The massage with Lucille was great however i waited for 15 minutes for an employee to tell me I would be waiting 45 more minutes ( a total of one hour) for my mother to be facial. The employee told me there was some miscommunication and they had no one to accommodate me and I had to wait longer. I asked the employee what else would I do in the meantime since I am currently 7 months pregnant and was starting to get hungry. The employee told me " sorry" and offered me 20 percent off the facial which was ridiculous since everything had been paid for already with a gift card anyway. The employee didn't even advise me of other amenities they had there that I could try and was very rude. I expressed to her that because I was seven months pregnant I had scheduled it right after my massage and could not wait an hour. This employee had absolutely no customer service skills whatsoever. At checkout I was asked by the front desk if I would like to reschedule, I expressed what happened and told them I would go to the Ramsey location instead since this was the second time this has happened to me here and I still have a balance on my gift card. Afterwards the manager Daria contacted me. Daria had Apologized and wanted me to contact her next time I was to come in for a service. I expressed to her I wouldn't since it was the second time this has happened to me there and I was very frustrated with how things were handled. My baby shower is tomorrow and i would have like to spend the time being relaxed but instead I had to deal with this nonsense. I have come here twice and I enjoyed both times, though my second massage wasn't too nice. Mainly because I got this east meets west massage that aims at particular points of the body. Once, with my husband, for the Deluxe Rendezvous for two, which includes a private whirlpool bath and Deluxe side-by-side Full Body Massages. The second time, I had the Well-being Massage, which I wouldn't recommend. I wanted to try something other than a typical full body or Swedish massage but this treatment left me a little sore and unsatisfied. I am never going to want to go any where else. I was a bit nervous, as it was my first massage and didn't want to be naked on a table while someone I had never met before was touching me. I was just here last weekend with a girlfriend. We decided to treat ourselves to a massage and dinner, sans husbands and children. I've been here a few times and have never had any issues! Anyway, we were greeted by the hostess right when we walked in! They checked us in and escorted us to the women's lounge. They provided us with a very comfy robe and slippers. We picked a locker, changed our clothes and headed to the relaxation room. The relaxation room overs freshly brewed ice team, lemon water and some fruit and cookies. My massage was fabulous! The therapist was very sweet, she respected the fact that I just wanted to lay there and relax, she didn't pressure me into adding any of the extras to my massage (aromatherpy oils, or heating pads), and did an excellent job. I know some people may hesitate coming here because it is in a mall, but, once you walk in those double doors, you have no idea that there is shopping going on right above you. I have also been to the location in Ramsey and would much rather go to the Hackensack location. I think it is much more inviting and warm! I had a fabulous facial, but a horrible checkout experience. My grandmother and I were each given gifts for facials--fully paid for and pre-tiped. We relinquished our giftcards at check-in without a problem and then went on to have great facial experiences. Imagine our surprise at check-out when an employee, Cheryl, told us that our facials were only partially covered by the giftcard. When I told her that this could not be the case ans surely must be a mistake, she was incredibly rude, indignant, and dismissive toward me. There is just no excuse for this and I've never had such a horrible customer service experience in my life. Another employee (I didn't catch her name) then checked the computer, promptly realized there was a mistake, and fixed it. Cheryl never even apologized or owned up to the fact that it was, in fact, her mistake. She simply uttered "we made it work" and implied that they comped the service which they DID NOT. It was a ploy to cover up the fact that she now felt like a complete idiot. This is totally unacceptable and a complete insult to the person who spent hundreds of dollars purchasing the gift for us. I honestly wonder if this employee (Cheryl) is running some kind of scam that preys on gift recipients who don't know any better than to assume that their service really isn't fully paid for; thus, subsequently handing over their credit cards. Such a shame that one person can bring down an otherwise wonderful establishment. All in all, It was a mortifying experience. Knowing how my recipient will be treated, I would never purchase a gift-card here. I had a mom-to-be massage by Renato. He was professional and cordial. He did end the massage 5+ minutes prior to end time. I was out of the room changed about 5 minutes before my due time. I could have really used those minutes. I also got a pedi by Kelly. She was young and seemed new. She offered to upgrade my nail polish to a 5 minute quick dry for $5. We discussed colors. I showed her my hands (all pink and 1 white nail). I told her I wanted the opposite on my feet (all white and 1 pink). Not sure what happened to her, but I ended up with all pink nails. When I told her she stuttered... I left it at that... Also, I told her twice I really enjoyed the scrub and she did not give me 10 seconds with it. She did leave me more than 5-10 minutes with some cream that I did not care for and she left during that time. She did not file both feet therefore, I had white lines on my heels back the next day. Very sad and not worth it. I did notice Jovi was doing a great job on the person in front of me. If I were to visit again, I would ask for Jovi. Besides this, everyone was nice, the place was clean and relaxing. They do not have lounging chairs in the wait room, so I had to pull two chairs together to be able to life my legs while I waited 30 minutes plus in between appointments. I received a one-hour massage certificate as a gift, and used it at the Riverside location. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend this spa for a massage. I didn't get to the lounge (where the masseuse picks you up) until 1:06 for a 1pm massage, but then my masseuse didn't come and get me for another five minutes, and didn't actually start the massage until 1:17. The masseuse walked out of the room at 1:50. 10 minutes are on me - my fault for arriving late! I thought that would have made it a 50-minute massage, but the woman who checked me out informed me that the "hands on time" for a one-hour massage is 50 minutes... good to know. Somehow, from there, it became a 33-minute massage. Perplexed, I asked the woman who checked me out about it, but she didn't care. The massage itself was okay. Felt more like a rub-down than an unknotting. I usually get a 10- or 20-minute massage when I get my nails done, and the nail tech does a better job of unknotting my back. The waiting area was okay- it was nice and quiet, and they had some supermarket mini-muffins, Bigelow tea, and apples available. I hung out there for ten minutes after my massage, but it's not really a great place to hang unless you're waiting for a treatment, in which case it's fine. Very disappointed to have purchased gift cards, and when the gift recipients called to make their reservations, they were told they needed to provide their credit card in order to hold the reservation. When I called to explain to the manager how this was disappointing, given that the services were already paid for, she was inflexible and offered to forward me to the voicemail of her VP. This type of flippant, response is not representative of the customer service I'm accustomed to. The spa was so concerned with making the gifting process accessible and seamless, that they even offered to collect gratuity inadvance. I certainly didn't want my gift recipients to have to provide their own credit card. Certainly, they could offer to look up the gift card information, which should suffice to "hold" a reservation. Also, when pressed with the question of "why" they need the credit card, no reason was provided, other than "it's just our policy." She said in the case of habitual cancellations, they "may or may not" charge a fee, and explained that they keep the cards on file for future use if that becomes necessary. I am very alarmed to learn that the Fountain Spa maintains a database of personal credit card information from all guests. This is very different than credit card payments, which are automatically processed, and numbers are not kept by retailers. This is a major privacy issue. This, ladies, exactly how credit card fraud and identity theft takes place. In fact, I question the legality of this policy. I'll not be purchasing gifts from here again. Update: This experience just got worse! When my gift recipients redeemed their gifts, they were mistakenly informed that there was not enough money on the gift cards to cover their services! These services were purchased at the front desk, and were written out by the staff there. So, if there was an error, it was their error. Worse yet, the manager, Cheryl, was extremely rude. Afterwards, I called her back just to request that I speak with her supervisor, and she proceeded to be argumentative and condescending to me. She did not apologize, and she tried to spin it as if she had done me some sort of favor. Can you even imagine? I'm baffled. Such a shame that the quality of services is irrelevant when customer service at the desk is so poor. Now I understand the large quantity of poor reviews for this establishment--it's the management. Went there with some co-workers today for a birthday. The staff was friendly from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. They were very attentive to our needs and requests. The massage was very relaxing and the tranquility room for after the massage was just that. They had a nice spread of fruit, muffins, water and tea for the clients. Kathy I also had a situation at the Ramsey location and the customer service at this spa is terrible. Treatments are overpriced. All they do is try to sell you their massage/facial membership. For a 2 hour, $226 massage my legs were not touched. Even when I said I have sore calves and they needed to be worked on. Never will go here again. read more

It's been probably about 10 years since I first came here and still won't go anywhere else!!!! Went last week and had Renato (my absolute favorite) for a massage and he is just the best!!!! He just knows where to massage and how much pressure is needed without me having to say a word! He's a master at his craft! I also had Annette for a facial and she was great too!!! Completely relaxed me! Brought my daughter to Annette today for a teen facial and she won my daughter over!!! The fountain has clients for life with Renato and Annette!!! read more

My mom and went to have massages at this elegant day spa. Despite a well-placed sign on the outside of the mall, the Fountain Spa was hard to find once inside Riverside since it is tucked in the basement of the mall. Once inside, you feel as if you've escaped to a completely different environment. The dressing rooms are neat and spacious, and the waiting area serves munchies and drinks while you wait. There is a small separate dining room if you'd like a real meal after your spa experience, or if you just want to relish the calming atmosphere. We were put into the same room with two massage technicians. Although I asked her to be firm, she failed to put enough pressure on my muscles; I never truly relaxed all my muscles and even felt more tense at certain points of the massage.
