This is a lovely spa right in the downtown area of the city. The staff is kind and considerate and friendly. The environment is peaceful, clean and inviting. I went with my sister for a much needed message after weeks of exhaustion and stress at work. One full body message and I feel so much better. I tried this place on a whim when I totally spaced on making a reservation at Beyond Spa on my day off. I was a bit apprehensive because of the exterior and it being on Main. I was welcomed in immediately (no reservation on Monday afternoon) and brought to a room where I was given privacy to change and a bin for my belonging, then the massage began. Shi shi (I know I spelled it wrong) was amazing and very professional. She made sure I was covered & comfortable and seemed to know exactly what I needed! The entire place seemed clean including the bathrooms and the lady at the desk was very friendly as well. I couldn't believe a 1 hour Swedish massage was only $65!! (60 if you pay cash) But with all that being said, if you are looking for a "spa" experience then this isnt the place. The massage was one of the best I've had but the place is missing the more upscale amenities. (Hence the difference in price point) For comparison, most spas have a locker room, refreshments, sauna, steam etc. This place is just an amazing straight forward massage. I'd give 4.5 stars if that was an option. I'm deducting a half star because the massage oil they used was unscented and I'm big on aroma therapy. The staff is amicable and professional, and the atmosphere is relaxing. I had a deep tissue massage with Momo, and she was terrific. She took the time to understand my needs and areas of tension. The massage was relaxing and therapeutic, and I felt completely refreshed and rejuvenated. She wrapped me up like a burrito with extra blankets when I told her I felt cold. Always happy to support local business , so I went to "Smiles Spa" for a 1hr massage. It was advertised as "$55 1hr massage" . WRONG! The massage was ok , paid for the treatment in cash to avoid the card fee. I handed the woman that actually did the massage a $15 tip and her facial expression changed from a plastic smile to disgusted frown. She said something to the woman at the register in their language and this where things got weird. The cashier who spoke English informs me that people with "a lot of muscles usually pay $25 extra charge , could you give her some more tip". I gave her $10 more and left. I went with my sister to this place to try it out, and I have NEVER experienced something so horrific at a spa. first off, we went to get a 60 min massage and free 10 min foot (that they were promoting on their site) and instead we came out having a 70 min body massage. we didn't get the foot massage that they supposedly offered AND my sister came out with BURNED MARKS on her back! her "masseuse" decided to do cupping on her. what the hell is that?! you're not an acupuncturist or anything and you never thought to ask first??! you just decided to just do it on your own will??? and when my sister told her that she was hurting her, this bitch just kept on going! i took a picture of her back and we went to the front desk to show her and tell her that the service was NO GOOD and that we didn't even get our foot massage and this person says that it was our responsibility to let the masseuse know BUT WE TOLD HER BEFORE GOING INTO OUR MASSAGE! SO SHE ALREADY KNEW! WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! you asked us what we wanted for our massage and there was NOTHING mentioned that my sister wanted CUPPING!! WHO THE HELL DOES THAT AT A MASSAGE PLACE?!!! OMGGGG MY SISTER LOOKS LIKE SHE GOT BURNED ON HER WHOLE BACKKKKK!!!! all that front bitch said is for us not to worry and that the pain will go away in 2-3 days and that they usually charge $25 extra for this cupping service ( WHICH WE NEVER FUCKEN ASKED FOR) but she'll waive it for us.. they never apologized or at least compensated for my sister. Could have been better, but I won't go back to try again. I had been here once before and I had a massage and facial. It was pretty good, my muscles were relaxed and I had a full body massage front and back, with a facial. I didn't appreciate not being enclosed in the room, and able to hear everyone to the left or right of me, but it wasn't too noisy, so I ignored it. It was decent enough that I thought I'd bring my daughter's there so they can get the experience of a massage and facial as well. And this was a decent enough place to have a first experience for my youngest daughter (it was both of our birthday weekend - went on 9/16/23). So I scheduled 3 massages and facials. My youngest daughter and I were right next to each other, my other daughter down the hall. The people were very nice. However, for my experience next to my daughter, the two that were massaging us, kept talking (in a whisper), but talking nonetheless. We obviously didn't know what they were saying, but throughout the entire process they periodically whispered back and forth, giggled and whispered some more. So I couldn't get comfortable or in a zone because the constant talking through me off, so I don't say anything, just let it ride. Then there was so clatter of tools (about 4/5 times) during the massage as well. Like you have a bowl of metal tools and your scattering them around in the bowl to find the one you need. So that kind of noise happened about 4/5 times - still messing up the zone, but I let it ride. My masseuse massaged my back and legs and my arms, but touched my feet and touched my hands. I'm accustomed to a full body massage having everything massaged. There were a lot of other elements of my massage that were not included in this session, but I let it ride. Even thought I felt like I was half done. Then when the facial was taking place, whenever she washed off the creams, soaps, etc. She was so fast and rough. To the point of opening my eyes and my mouth when she was wiping, I was like Woah! what is happening here. She did it several times, like she was rushing and just trying to get it done. This is what it felt like. But the kicker was, when she started to put the creams on or wash my face. Her fingers smelled like a bunch of seasoning. It wasn't on her hands, but it was on her fingertips and it was not pleasant. Lastly, was the real shit kicker for me. I paid at the front to the person who was there, who seemed pretty nice at first. Gave her $400. I intended to leave a tip, but it wasn't going to be astronomical, because I had funds for the experience, and I was on a strict budget...and because of my service, it worked in my favor, because I tip based on my experience of your service, not just because you did a job. So I handed her $35 for the tip and she laughed at my tip. And told me, it's more for your tip when you're here for 2hrs. I told her, I tip on my service, not on the time. And she then told me, and your daughter had 2 people to give her a massage...WHY? I didn't ask for her to have 2, who told you to do that? You decided to add someone else to the mix, that's not on me. I only budgeted for 3 people, so they'll have to split it with her. And she scuffed at me and again mocked my tip. Which is not how you handle customers in business. The thing is, as a business owner, if you're providing a service you don't know your customer's life story. They are open to tipping, but it's extremely insensitive and rude to laugh at someone's tip and tell them they have to pay more. The audacity and rudeness is crazy. And how do you know if they have more? And how do you tell someone to pay for a service that was incomplete and not to their satisfaction? WHO RAISED YOU? The Bronx in me, wanted to tell her to give me my tip money back and you give them the tip! But I am fasting right now, so I'm being tested in every which way and I couldn't let her insolence deter my path. I just smiled and told her you figure out how to ration that - I'm never coming back here again. read more

Recently we made appointments for me my wife and my daughter, we called early to cancel because we couldn't make it, the owner hung up on us. Ok so that, and the bad reviews of cockaroaches and bed bugs the 3 of us still went back the following week. We had a 10:30 appointment, we arrived early and parked directly in front of smiles door. Soon after a van with the smiles employees arrived, the owner gets out and tells me I have to move because that spot is there's. Meanwhile a few short feet away were many empty spots. I told her fine she would rather inconvience paying customers than park her van somewhere else no problem, I told her to cancel our appointments and left, also told the girls that give the massages that she just cost them all really good tips, we always tip each one 30 dollars after a 1 hour massage. Not to mention the several hundred dollars for the massages. She then had the nerve to call us on the phone and give my wife an argument about it, instead of saying hey come back misunderstanding, I'll make it right. She is a nasty individual and lost customers for good over a parking spot. Not a good or smart business person at all. To many other places in Bergen county to get a good massage without being treated in a nasty manner. I will no longer use or recommend this place to anyone, and I suggest if you are considering going here DONT, unless you like being treated nastily by its owner!!!!! read more
