I've been wanting to try this little small town restaurant ever since I passed it. It's quaint, and apparently popular because I often see multiple cars there, so.... a friendly place as well. The service was quick, the decor was boring. It was a simple one page menu with all the basics : hot dogs, hamburgers, and grilled chicken. They also have a breakfast menu all day on the weekend. I *may try them again for breakfast...but I won't seek them out. I found my burger bland, and dry. It came with chips, so at least there was that. This is a little gem! The coffee is always piping hot, they have yummy breakfast specials and the good old tried-and-true plates are delicious. They have the BEST scrambled eggs I've ever had! And their bacon! YUM! The staff is unfailingly friendly and fast, they are so nice! They have outdoor seating where you can watch cute little planes, too. Love it here! read more

There is so much to love about The Fly Inn. My first favorite thing is the delicious, homemade and unique breakfast. They offer ingredients for scrambles/omelettes that are "different" than your average choices. They also use/offer seasonal veggies and fruit, so awesome! The corned beef hash is made from scratch and a top choice of ours. You also can't go wrong with French toast, pancakes or baked oatmeal. Second favorite reason for loving the Fly Inn is their burgers! We love the $100 Fly Inn burger (it's not really $100 but it's a joke that it costs pilots $100+ to come have a burger there). The bacon cheeseburger is also outstanding and we typically order them with tater tots. Check out their daily/weekly specials. This is where you'll find things like strawberry rhubarb pancakes, asparagus, feta, tomato scrambles etc. If you get there when they're busy and you have to wait, do it! You'll thank me later. If you're lucky, you'll get to watch planes fly in and take off during your visit which is always exciting! read more

Last visit food was good and wait staff horrible. The wait staff has been not nice for a while but we try to take all things with a grain of salt. After our last visit I addressed it with the owner and he really did it care so we will be taking our money to other restaurants. Good food and bad wait staff is not a good combination. This is a cute place to get breakfast ! But plan ahead. There aren't a lot of tables and there are a gaggle of regulars who sit around and chat. I had the baked oatmeal and it was amazing. I guess I'll start with the only thing I have good to say about this place is it is very retro old-school and next to an airfield with cool plane scenery.... Other then that the service was rushed and no care for the customers. The choice of food on the menu was dull. If I had to chose to grab eggs from a gas station or come here next time id probably chose searching for a lost chicken and making my own eggs and buy bread from a gas station and toast it on my car before I come back here... Was not filling no variety or creativity in breakfast meals unless you think of the plate yourself and ask them to create it for you.. I ordered the scramble and I got eggs and veggies thrown into a pan and a slab of toast I was hoping for the classic joy of eating at a cafe and got served prison food instead I don't recommend unless your on your last breath for hunger. Delicious breakfast and friendly staff! I had eggs and hash browns with one of their pumpkin pecan pancakes on the side. My boyfriend had a big breakfast burrito covered with sausage gravy and hash browns. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt on serving us. Checking out with their new credit/debit card system was the easiest one of I've dealt with. The atmosphere was neat and festive being decorated for Halloween and we even got to see a plane take off right outside the window while we were eating! This is a fun little spot if you like breakfast places. It's right at the Plainwell airport so you can enjoy watching little airplanes take off and land. I have flown here a few times and usually it's easy to find a parking spot for my airplane though it's a little bit tighter on weekends. The parking lot for cars looks like it has plenty of room too. I highly recommend the baked oats. Delicious stuff. The specials are listed on the board when you enter and you can eat to your hearts content for under $10. What's not to love about that? It gets crowded here on weekends and you may have to wait on a table. Cash or checks only. Great little small town restaurant. I'll be back again for sure! read more

This is an awesome little restaurant to check out if you're looking for something in the Plainwell area with a little less of a bar feel. Although it's in the airport parking lot, you won't have to worry about Boeing 7 series jets tearing the roof off. The staff is incredibly friendly. You whole party needs to be present to be seated. They are great about keeping track of who arrived first for seating once your whole party has arrived. Tried to go to this restaurant on Saturday and was sent away. We arrived about 11:30 and it looked pleasant and not too busy. When I asked if we should seat ourselves, the waitress said No, they were doing the changeover to lunch. No one would be seated for 30 minutes. I said we wanted breakfast, and she said no breakfast after 11. So we left. The staff person could hardly have been ruder. Beware the mid-day changeover, when customers are turned away. read more

We arrived here a little after 10 on a Sunday morning when they close at 12. We were seated quickly and the establishment was clean and welcoming. The server promptly took our order. They were out of three separate menu items we attempted to order which sometimes happens that close to close but was disappointing nonetheless. Our coffees came quickly and our server was very quick to refill our cup - never letting it get less than half full. Our food took forever though! Almost an hour for two people! I ordered the baked oatmeal and my boyfriend ordered a two egg breakfast. The portion size for the oatmeal seemed small but it was actually very filling. The restaurant was rebuilt a few years ago, and with the no smoking it makes for a more pleasant experience. I've eaten here more times that i can remember, usually for breakfast. The service is quick even when its crowded. The food is fresh and always great. They make excellent egg scrambles, my favorite is their Asparagus, bacon, onion. Its big and very filling. If you're ever in Plainwell, visit the Fly Inn. You won't be disappointed. read more

Recently had lunch with my brother and his three kids, ages 6, 8 and 10. Immediately, our server brought coloring books, a puzzle and a tic tac toe game to them. Sort of enjoyed breakfast this morning. The service was friendly and pretty fast, the atmosphere was typical of a small town cafe. The coffee was hot and the menu had a multitude of choices. We had the "everything but the sink" omelette. It was full of all kinds of meat and veggies and had good flavor. The biscuits and gravy was bland with very little sausage in the gravy. My cinnamon roll tasted like a warmed store bought Danish. We'll try again on another Saturday to see if this was the norm. read more

TERRIBLE PLACE TO GO! I took my wife and 7 month old son last weekend thinking this would be a good place to grab lunch. Boy was I wrong. I got sat at a "community table" with 2 other separate couples. I ordered a burger with no mustard and fries instead of potato chips. I got charged $1.29 for the no mustard and $1.50 for the fries! My bill was $23.00 for 2 cans of pop 2 burger and fry meals. The wait staff is terrible, seems like this business is worried more about there money than there customers. I haven't been here in years, not Since the Spenser's owned it actually. This place is now depressing. It used to be a place that people talked about. A place known for awesome food and friendly owners that made you feel welcome. This is not the case anymore.... Sure the its a newer building, but thats about it. It was clean and sterile feeling, no atmosphere. It was too quiet, I could literally hear the dentures click clacking as the people two tables over ate their food. The menu is small and overpriced for what you get. I had a "Scramble" and at $7.29 I should be getting more than 3 eggs and very tiny piece of toast. Overall the food is mediocre at best. I paid $34 for my family of 3, and we all left hungry. The owners attitude was cold, and matched the business atmosphere.... Soulless, empty and depressing. The service was much the same, and to be honest I was really surprised. I now understand why the place is up for sale, and I hope that someone comes along and revives my hometown favorite. It would help if they offered a credit/debt card option and were actually open long enough for normal people to enjoy this places potential of being a place to talk about again. read more

We came in with 15 people as our last meal together after a weekend-long family reunion. While the place was small, they worked hard to make space for all of us and were so nice about it. I had a vegetable and cheese scramble with bacon in it and it was really tasty. Everyone seemed to like their food as well. The coffee was a little weak, but not everything is perfect. The owner soon realized that our guest of honor was Grandma who celebrated her 94th birthday the day before. He told us that he would buy her breakfast for her in her honor. So nice! The airplane photos and history were fascinating. There were tons of those wooden signs with paints sayings on them, which can look overwhelming or hokey, but somehow worked. They had ones that appealed to women in the ladies room. My 7-year-old daughter now has "well behaved women rarely make history" as her motto. And watching the antique and collector planes take off right out the windows at the Plainwell airport was a real treat. This was the kids' favorite part. Hope we come back here next year for the next birthday celebration/reunion breakfast. read more
