The ingredients are #1 chicken #2 mushroom #3 sun-dried tomatoes.... These ingredients SHOULD be in order of quantity. From my dish it should state #1 cavatappi pasta #2 tomatoes.....#8 mushrooms #9 salt (very low) #10 chicken. Someone else in our group ordered the same and made a stink to get some chicken. I I ordered the turkey ham and bacon, which is pretty pathetic. It's just standard white bread, it seemed like there's one slice of turkey on there which tasted like it was something from Oscar Meyer, even though they said it came from Otto's. I could pretty much see through the apple and I'm not even sure there was a piece of bacon on there. Fries were OK at least they came out hot. I wasn't given a napkin and fork. We've always enjoyed Blue Dog in Grand Rapids and when we learned that Riverdog Tavern was part of the same group, we knew we had to try it. There were eight of us and were pleased to be seated quickly in a nice area that allowed us to catch up with friends we don't see very often. Our server took our drink orders and we enjoyed our drinks while looking at what I consider to be a really good menu. (My opinion-Blue Dog is a nice bar with a good restaurant. Riverdog is a nice restaurant with a good bar! All good.) I had Mahi tacos. Fish was nicely flavored and the dish was served with really good flavored rice. My wife ordered the Chicken Burrito Bowl. She loved her dish and exclaimed, "we'll definitely be back here"! Both our dishes had chipotle aioli which we loved. Our friends ordered a variety of dishes including Maple Glazed Salmon, Junkyard Rueben, Jambalaya and Lake Fried Perch. All dishes were very good, even the perch which was a bit overcooked. Restaurant has a nice, fun vibe and we easily could have stayed a long time drinking and talking. Service, especially with our large group was exceptional. We absolutely love Riverdog! The chicken Marsala is the most delicate, delicious version of the dish I've had in YEARS. October features Chicken Pot Pie and it's so delicious that the family has made a pact to meet here at least once a week while it's still on the menu! Totally fresh, well-prepared food. Good wine. And EXCELLENT SERVICE-- we've had a great selection of servers the last few years but Izzy has taken care of us the last two times...she's sublime, so helpful and genuine. The atmosphere was so quiet. I love love they have pictures of peoples dogs on a board. We came here for brunch. We drive through middleville all the time and had no idea this place was even here. The waitress was on top of filling our drinks. She was very attentive. The food was unbelievably good. We had the shredded tacos from the specials for an appetizer. My husband said his chicken bowl was excellent. I have the smoked Gouda cavatappi which was also was delicious. They have booths and handicap accessible. Also they have tables if you prefer. Plenty of parking in the front on the street parking. Next time we will bring a photo of our dogs to put on the board. I would definitely try their pretzels and cheese sauce, it's by far one of the best I've ever had! We ordered the chicken and waffles as well as the Philly cheese! Both were really good, however ever I would say that the bacon on the chicken and waffles is definitely hickory smoked! The fries are definitely worth the substitution! Upon entering it was pretty empty, which we were seated right away. The decor is adorable, if you're a dog lover this is a place for you. Atmosphere was relaxing and quiet, I ordered their boneless wings Sweet Thai Chili and Garlic Parmesan flavor. I wish stuck with one flavor as the chili was my absolute favorite. Easy street parking, friendly service, inviting atmosphere and quality food. We were seated right away on a Friday night even though there was music on the river that evening. We started with Loaded Tots and Truffle Tots and they were both fantastic and large enough to share. I had the Chicken Marsala and the other dishes at the table included a chicken sandwich, Jambalaya, and Shrimp Risotto. The only negative was that the chicken sandwich was just average. The rest of us enjoyed our dinners and were impressed for a small town restaurant! The Chicken Marsala was very tasty but it wasn't a traditional Marsala sauce. I've reviewed River Dog Tavern before, but am compelled to do so again! This place continues to impress both my wife and I, and it's quickly vaulted to the top of our "favorites" list. We eat there at least once a month. Service: The service is impressive. The staff is always very friendly and responsive. Food: The food is exceptional and served in a timely fashion. We ALWAYS try the Tot-of-the-Month and have always enjoyed that option. The menu is one of those where you struggle to decide what to order because everything looks too dog home good! They have always have their "usual", delicious dishes, but also always mix in some great specials to keep things fresh, so to speak. For perspective, I'm a steak guy and have delayed ordering the Ribeye because there were always so many other good options. Finally ordered the Ribeye and it was done to perfection and delicious! Ambiance: Relaxing atmosphere. Great playlist music playing in the background. Drinks: Some great, creative options. The cranberry mule is my new fave. (Hint: carefully smash the cranberries and mix those in!) If you haven't been there yet, this place is VERY worth a try and worth the drive if you're a ways away. This is a terrific small town restaurant. We enjoy visiting and getting to know the friendly staff. My hubby ordered the Ruben with fries and said it was the best he had ever had. Stopped In for lunch with my kids on the way home to Grand Rapids from Battle Creek . This was the first place I could find as we headed home and it was a great find . I am hoping it gets busier at night since there was only a couple of people there yesterday.. Kids enjoyed their cheeseburgers and chicken tenders . I figured it was worth it a shot, got to help a local business during these tough times, and I wouldn't have to cook. If what they provided is what their food is normally like, SIGN ME UP to become a regular when the World returns to normal. Today we had lunch at the river dog - we had a cobb salad and a smash burger. Everything was amazing. Our server was fantastic she was pleasant and knowledgeable. Our food came out quick and was delicious. The manager was present and cares that we enjoyed our meal. He had a a good rapport with his staff. Great decor - bathrooms were clean. Great experience. Arrived shortly after 5 PM and requested a table. We were seated promptly but waited some time for our server to take our drink order. She was apologetic and very sweet, but it's obvious that staff needs more supervision. The two young women standing at the desk talking should have taken drink orders to assist our server. When she did take the drink order we quickly ordered our meals. I ordered the Lake Perch and a cup of chili. My wife ordered the Chicken Marsala. My Chili came out first and was lukewarm, so I asked for it to be reheated. The Chili came back slightly warmer but when a patrons sends something back, you would think they would drop a thermometer in it to insure it's hot. On the same note my wife's potatoes were barely warm as the plate was probably held until the chicken was done. The Marsala was somewhat bland, and my Lake Perch which was "perched" on the top of a pile of fry's. The fry's were good but they and the perch had an aftertaste from the herbs grated over them. I really couldn't place the herbs but my guess is Cilantro, or thyme and Im not a fan of either. At $20.00 for the Perch, I would have thought the portion would have been more than 6 small strips. The decor was nice, and I enjoyed the prints around the restaurant. The staff were very nice, and she took the Chili off my bill as I requested. Overall I was disappointed with wait times, temperature of the food served and the portion size on the fish. read more
