The Works Pizza
Drew

The Flame has opened under new management recently. The bar / restaurant is constructed with an open concept. One drawback to this concept was that it was loud and it was difficult to have a conversation. Indoor & outdoor seating were provided. The view was good, especially closer to sunset. The staff were friendly and nice. Service was good considering the recent opening and training of staff appeared to be occurring. The menu was limited at this time. I understand it will be expanded. I could not complain about the food. It tasted good and portion size was generous. The pizza, I admit, was one of the better ones I've recently eaten. The crust was thin and crispy with a very good flavor. Over all I would recommend The Flame to family and friends.

The red ghoul that taunts and haunts me.

We got the 2 specials: crab stuffed blackened walleye & orange chicken with an egg roll. Another couple recommended their Spanish pork. We also enjoyed the warm bread pudding ala mode for 2. We pulled up on a Wednesday night in the middle of July and the place was PACKED. We were happy to be able to get a table in the "screened porch", which seemed like the pour over dining area but it was very nice and comfortable. Our waitress, Bailey was delightful! She was a hard worker and understanding the worker shortage in the north woods, it seemed they had no busboys as this poor girl had to not only serve all 5-6 tables in her section, but was forced to buss two of her own tables. Good busboys are the key to turning tables. This young lady who was fairly knowledgeable about the menu although needed to learn a little more about the specials before she got out on the floor. Nevertheless, a quick check on the proper pronunciation and definition of "Pontchartrain Sauce" had me sold on the fried walleye special. Everything is a la carte here so don't be surprised with a pricey tab. That said, IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. I started with a cup of the Hungarian Mushroom soup, which was phenomenal. This was followed up with as I say the fried walleye with pontchatrain sauce and sautéed green beans that were perfectly cooked; crunchy and delectable. My girlfriend had the French Dip with waffle fries. The beef was good, tender and well made. Drinks we well made and not weak. The bartender came directly to our table when there was a question about the flavored vodka they carried. She offered options and made the order perfect. This was a five star experience and I cannot wait to return

To start with, the place is very cool on the inside. It has an amazing antique bar, and just as the…read morename says, boat memorabilia everywhere. The staff was terrific, too. Our server, Leah, was very pleasant and met our every need. I'm extremely picky about tartar sauce and she brought me out plenty to try and then when I loved it, more to enjoy with their excellent fries. I thought it was the best I've ever had in a restaurant. We all enjoyed our meal and my daughter loved her Fettuccine Alfredo especially. My walleye sandwich was incredible, too, especially since that tartar sauce was so phenomenal. One thing that really caught my eye was how hard the hostess was working. I don't think I've ever seen someone of her generation with such an amazing work ethic. It was kind of fun to watch her do her thing. If I had a company of my own locally, I would definitely be working to hire her. I didn't get her name, a d she looked awfully young to own the place. She acted as if she did, however. Amazing!

A great Wisconsin staple. Husband and kid both got the fried cod. I got the broiled (so happy for that option as I love fish just can't do the breading). Everything was hot and delicious. Baked potatoes were delish and huge !! The bar has a great selection of tap beer and I also had a great cranberry vodka (from northwater distillery) that had a little spice to it with diet sprite (thanks for having diet!!)
