My daughter and I purchased her prom dress here. The service was great and the sales people were all very patient. My daughter picked out 3 dresses to try on and the sales woman said "let's get you some more styles to try on" and went out of her way to find out what look she wanted. I went to this shop last week to look for a mother of the bride gown. The store was not crowded at all but yet not one person asked if I needed assistance as I looked through the gowns. In fact, one of the salespeople was stepping on the train of the dress I was looking at, I mentioned it and still she didn't see if I needed help. They make you pick out dresses and then let other girls try on the dresses and don't even give you a chance to have your dress you picked. I actually had a very pleasant experience here. Took my daughter prom dress shopping! Actually found the perfect dress. The sales rep was a pleasure and she was not pushy like other reviews have complained about. The boutique is small as a "boutique" should be! However, do not let this hinder you from venturing in and checking out what they have to offer. You will be pleasantly surprised! We decided to go with the dress from here and they will be ordering one and will also supply alterations if needed. It is pricey for some but it is worth it. You need a prom dress? This is the place to go. They have lots of selection and the young women that work there are awesome! They give honest opinions, and will suggest dresses that you would not ordinarily choose, based on your preferences. They also know the inventory very well. I shopped here for a prom dress, and tried on a few. They have some beautiful dresses, but the prices are outrageous ($600 plus $150 for alterations). I wasn't willing to spend $750 on a dress I'd wear once, so I went to "DB", and bought a dress totaling $550. The dressing rooms are quite small, and the store was very crowded. The owner was nice, although the saleswoman was a bit pushy. I was also surprised that photos aren't allowed, but this may be a "boutique thing". read more

My sister bought a mother of the bride's dress for my niece's wedding here. The dress is beautiful but like everything else in the store, very high end and over priced. During my sister's APPOINTMENT, the owner was also helping all of her other customers at the same time. She also promised that she would add some type of peplum or ("figure something out") to the dress during alterations. Much to our disappointment when she went to pick up the dress there was no peplum, no left over material (as the train was removed) or anything else. And also no apology or explanation. In fact, the owner did not even acknowledge her presence. If you are going to try & run a "high end" shop, then I think your customers deserve high end attention. Stay away because you will not get it here. read more

I went to this shop many times looking for a dress. It was over crowded and they did not have appointments to try on gowns. Their fitting rooms are small with limited privacy as they are tied back by a curtain with Velcro. The first time I went, the women were courteous and somewhat helpful. The time I returned to purchase the gown I was told the alterations would cost $200.00 on a $500.00 dress. That's 40% and ridiculous. I left the store and purchased the dress from a competitor where the alterations were slightly under $100.00. So, they had a decent collection, but took advantage on alterations and for that reason I gave them the two stars. read more

We found this shop searching for an 8th grade dance dress a few years ago and have since come back for junior prom. Lynn and her staff are amazing - They are patient, helpful and honest about what styles and colors work on different body types. We love the personal attention and unique dress styles offered here. This store looked really modern and cool from the outside but it was not. I love shopping boutiques and was excited to find one right near me in maywood. Upon entering I saw that none of the clothes are really meant for anyone between the ages of 18 and 30. The clothes are pretty odd and there is not much selection. I can usually find one or two things to work with but I legitimately could not find one thing I or any of my friends would wear at 28. I also didn't recognize any of the labels and did not get any help from the associates working that day. I will definitely revisit next season to see if I am wrong, considering many people have positive things to say, so maybe I came at an in between season time, but as for now, I pass that store and wish it were cooler. read more

I visited the fig leaf yesterday , I thought I would support one of the local businesses, boy was I wrong . The store only caters to small sized females ruling out most women .. the customer service was horrible , the associate was very abnoxious . she seemed very hassled , made me feel like I didn't have enough money to shop there , little did she know . Don't judge a book by its cover . Worst store , terrible customer service , rude, unfriendly. I do not recommend this store . Giving 1 star is generous. This place is awful. The owner/ manager who I assume is Lynn (I wouldn't know because she didn't introduce herself) is extremely rude. On Saturday April 13th, 2019 my best friend and I took her daughter dress shopping for her first semi formal. One of her coaches recommended The Fig Leaf. Upon entering the store, one sales girl was sitting on the floor playing on her phone and the other two were just sitting on the floor chatting. As we were looking at dresses, one of the sales girls very politely came to help. My friend's daughter went into the make-shift fitting room with a Starbucks plastic cup.....within 2 minutes- the Manager starts yelling and beckoning with her hand to bring the drink to her as if she were a 4 year old running around the shop with an ice cream cone, sticky hands and no adult supervision. Lame. We continue to try dresses but by this point we were already feeling different. Then, another group of 3 walk in and the Manager rushes to greet, introduce and help (while the other sales girls just walked around). - You didn't have a sign saying "please do not bring beverages into the fitting rooms" only a mediocre printed sign regarding a no photo policy. -Your sales girl didn't mention as we were entering the fitting room "please do not bring beverages in the fitting room" . - You didn't take such authority with the next group who were considerably lighter in skin tone. Instead you ran over to help them. -You treated us differently based on our appearance. - Your website has nothing but one dimensional models ALL of the same skin tone. - it's 2019, you lack diversity and it shows. As a privately owned business you have the right to operate as you wish but allow me to remind you of a few things..... -DIVERSITY and acceptance without prejudice is critical for success in the fashion industry. -You just lost a major sale. My best friend's daughter is also my god daughter and I was looking to buy TWO dresses - oh and I don't believe in a shopping budget ;). -You are NOT Bergdorf, NM's or even close to an Intermix....try offering your customers bottled water or Pellegrino. -Your shop is dated, tacky, and needs a remodel. That brown carpet and those dingy white walls need a face lift. Your fixtures are as old as a Macy's outlet and your hangers are cheap. - Your assortment is dated and has a poor price/value relationship. I've seen better on Nasty Gal and Fashion Nova. I went to The Fig Leaf to find a senior prom dress. I was looking for a more simple tight dress. The two lady's that were working there were very pushy and rude. I felt very pressured to get a dress, as the girl before me left empty-handed and the one lady made a rude comment to her as she left the store. I ended up getting a dress I liked but didn't love, and I was not notified before leaving the store that there were no refunds, returns, or exchanges. After I purchased my dress, the receipt said no refunds, returns, or exchanges. My dress was $550 and now I have to try and sell it on Poshmark. read more

My daughter was looking for both short and long prom dresses for 3 different Junior Proms and we found all of her dresses here (as well as a fourth dress for a family wedding!) One of the dresses we saw on-line and they ordered it for her because they didn't have it in the store. The alterations for all of the dresses were timely and well done. We worked with Christa and the owner, Lynn, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. They are equally pleasant and cheerful whether you buy a dress there that day or not (which was not true for other places where they became very cold once they realized you weren't buying a dress that day) We highly recommend The Fig Leaf! read more

I bought a dress which needed some alterations. When i got home i tried it on with different underwear and garments and realised that it would take too much to get it altered. I tried to return and was considering exchanging it as I still need a dress for the occasion but the lady said the store policy is no exchange and no return. Fair enough, that's the policy. But I wouldn't go back there purely because of the policy. I have never returned or exchanged an item of clothing before in my life and obviously never intended to do so with this dress as it is beautiful but i don't think that is a way to treat your customers. read more

I went in with an appointment to go buy a prom dress and as soon as we walked in the workers weren't the sweetest but we continued and selected dresses. The dresses had to be approved by the shops little book that they keep to make sure no one buys the same dress from the same school and the girls looked at all the dresses I had picked to try on and approved them. After trying them all on and not liking really any of them except one that I loved I decided I would buy that one but as I began to check out one of the workers came to me and told me I could not buy the dress because someone from my school bought the same style dress in a completely different color and the dresses looked very different and I know because I tried them both on. It is not the boutiques job to decide who gets to buy what dress and especially if its a different color. The same dress and color I understand it was just the fact that I loved the dress and they approved it for me to try on and then told me I could not buy it. Meanwhile the dress was not even on our dress Instagram page that my school uses to determine who wears what dress it could have been used for another prom for another school. Not only did they basically pry the dress out of my hands but they shoved it on another girl so I could not get a picture of the tag to find online and the owner was quite rude to my mom. Then when I was trying to leave they started shoving other dresses in my face to try on to possibly get a sale out of me but why would I give someone who treated me like this my money after that? I didn't want to write a review because I had nothing nice to say and I know that small businesses take a lot of work and need good reviews but then my friend got into another situation with the owner being rude so I felt this was necessary. I had a much better experience at other boutiques like Gattinoli and Suite 201 in Ridgewood and I'm sure theres other better options other than fig leaf. read more

They have items for every event, from casual every day wear to spectacular gowns for special occasions. I recently went there with my mom for her to look for a gown as grandma of the groom. We found the perfect gown and then the nightmare began when we went for her first fitting. There is no seamstress on site. The owner did not make good on her promises to make the gown fit without being repeatedly asked What about this and what about that. At the second fitting the dress looked awful and did not fit because it was never let out like it should have been among other things too numerous to write here. Yet the owner complimented it and then blamed my mom and said this is as good as it gets. We decided to take the dress to our own tailor but first had to request they get it back in the store for us as it gets sent out to alter. This person on the phone told me she could do nothing bc the owner was away and she didn't know which of the 6 seamstresses had it. I told her she needed to make 6 calls. We picked the dress up the next day and went for another opinion. He is now working on adding gussets like we were first promised and then has to redo the hem among other things. Only one oerson even tried to apologize and offer to try to right the situation. I gave it the two stars for the perfect dress which we had not seen the likes of elsewhere but service/alterations were a terrible experience. We would not go back or recommend it to anyone. If you decide to look there and find your outfit we just highly recommend taking it elsewhere to alter. read more

Consumer fraud sums my experience. Was deceived to think that I was getting a new dress, took the dress home only to find that i had been given the dirty floor sample. When I called the owner, she told me the dress was no longer available and I had a choice of taking the floor sample, which she would repair or my money back. This happened two weeks before my special occasion. I had ordered my ordered dress one month before and paid full price for a new dress, not a nasty tried-on dress. Thank God I was able to purchase my gown on-line and actually got a much better deal with free shipping. Would not recommend at all. Check online, you'll get better deals and much better service. read more
