I have one apartment that had a leak on the tub and its an older washroom so it has older knobs. One of the knobs just went bad and I usually go to other stores but they did not have what I was looking for but luckily they sent me here. I got here and I explained to the man at the front desk about my problem and another customer had the exact same problem. We both ended buying the same thing. Greatest service and knowledge! I went in for a broken kitchen sink faucet and a replacement piece was immediately found in-store, saving me from replacing the entire faucet. Mitch also fixed another minor part for me at no charge. I then asked him about my running toilet, in which I had a plumber out 4 times to fix (and told me I needed to replace the entire toilet). Mitch looked at the picture, told me the guy used the wrong parts, sold me a flapper that I put on in about 30 seconds and I now have a working toilet. I went to Home Depot to find a shower cartridge for an older model shower valve I needed. HD didn't carry the part, but someone recommended I check with The Faucet Guy. They know their stuff and are very easy to work with. Mitch was a nice guy and hooked me up with the part in less than 5 minutes. I called them for a problem with a shower in an apartment I rent out. He told me it would be $700 to fix or else he'd have to rip the tile out which would end up costing about the same. I asked why so much, and he said it needed a new cartridge which would cost about $500. I thought this was strange since the whole fixture cost under $300. Fortunately a friend referred me to a different plumber who came in and gave me 2 options, to get the shower working for $80 or to replace the cartridge for $100 more. This experience has been a nightmare! Received several quotes to install a dishwasher and replace a water heater. His came in the lowest (first sign something was wrong). After purchasing the units at a nearby appliance store he installed them. Prior to completion of the work his estimate shot up 4 times what was originally quoted. What do you do, have him uninstall? He failed to properly inspect the dishwasher which caused thousands of dollars in damage hours after being installed. His response: "Theres nothing I can do about it. Its not my fault". If you pay $1200 to for work it should be done properly. Now we are stuck with lots of liability and thousands of dollars in the hole. If could go back in time we would just have hired a different plumber. Save yourselves the headaches and surprises. read more

I walked in with an old broken Moen faucet, that another faucet dealer wanted over a $2,000 to replace the entire *sink,* and the owner, within fifteen seconds, handed me the part I needed to repair the existing faucet, charging me $9.00. The Faucet Guy is awesome. My shower handle broke and I searched all around town for a replacement. My quest ended here, though I didn't even need to buy a replacement. Mitch was super-friendly and first tried to fix the part for me gratis. When we determined it was irreparable, he referred me to the manufacturer, who is shipping me all the parts I need for free. Also, it was very interesting to watch Mitch and his associate figure out how to deconstruct the part to get at the problem; he is clearly an expert and a veritable scientist of plumbing. This place is the best kept secret in chicago. My plumber at A&S plumbing who is aweso,e knows the owner and recommended the place. We needed to find a new fixture for out tub and not only did he have what we needed but wow did he have the parts and pieces. From what I could tell the owners carried everything for repairing existing fixtures but what I really admired most was the top quality plumbing fixtures the owner has access too. Mitch has ethic, knowledge and looks for manufacturers that have products that last. . I had no running hot water and was worried about getting someone on a Friday afternoon. Called the Faucet guy and Roy called and came within the hour to give me a free estimate. One look at the water heater and he realized that the problem was not as simple as the pilot going off! The entire tank had a leak at the bottom and there was some dirty water oozing out. He gave me a fair estimate which included removal and disposal of the old one, buying a new one and fixing it today itself. He came in the evening and in a couple of hours we had running hot water. I had some issues with toilets dripping. Called The Faucet Guy at 9AM when they opened, by 10:30AM, my problems were fixed. (20 min job) What happened was, I had the City of Chicago install a water meter at my home, this I was told would save me over 50% on my current bill. Instead of the flat fee of 450 a year, it should only be about 35 bucks every two months for water usage. The problem I saw after the meter was installed, was a spinning meter dial indicating there was water leaking somewhere, and it was from my two toilets. Roy was my plumber, who told me he had been doing this kind of work for 40 years, he obviously knew what he was doing, not only fixed my toilets, but caulked a sink that was not level, and gave me some advice on some issues regarding changing our shower stall around. Roy was recommended by our condo building as a licensed and reputable plumber when we had some under-sink leaks, and boy did he deliver! He was courteous, thoughtful, knowledgeable, experienced and super helpful in all areas of our plumbing issues (leaks, poor plumbing from previous owners, etc). He fixed the initial leak, came back to install new faucets we bought, fixed the bizarre piping situation we had going on to bring up to code, and gave us advice on any plumbing questions we had. I had a near impossible to replace bathroom faucet that developed a leak. I had no idea who the manufacturer is, in fact, I was stymied on how to remove the cartridge. I went to one of the big pluming supply places in the West Loop and none of the guys working the counter had a clue or suggestion on how to proceed, outside of suggesting that I go see the "faucet guy". Armed with the photos on my phone I took a ride up to Fullerton ave, after looking over the pictures (forgot to ask the guys name) I was instructed on how to remove the retaining ring to extract the faucet cartridge. Once removed the cartridge was nothing like I've ever seen, I figured that it would be a waste to try one of the big home improvement places or my usual plumbing supply places. I went back to the Faucet Guy who after seeing the cartridge went to a drawer and pulled out a replacement. It was like going into a hardware store from yesteryear when the people know where everything is. I was amazed at how with any idea on the manufacturer and no making on the cartridge, he knew exactly what I needed and had it in stock. In the future I'm going directly to the faucet guy read more

Caveat Emptor is paramount here. I purchased a need replacement part for a repair needed for my shower. It was an after market part. Needless to say the product failed and caused several more leaks once my plumber installed it. I went to another hardware store and bought a genuine replacement part for the original manufacturer, and cheaper needless to say. I did not want to return to The Faucet Guy in fear of getting another inferior replacement part. I went to return the part and was denied a refund only a 30 day credit for which I have no use for. it is posted that there are no returns, no exceptions, but I find it hard to believe that the owner would not stand behind the products he sells. But the return policy in on me. I was told that I could not give the credit to my plumber for his use. Just seems like such a racket. Make sure you know what you are buying before your purchase and know that defect parts are not returnable. I say take your business elsewhere. read more

We have all designer Kohler fixtures in bathroom and kitchen. We had obscure maintenance and parts issues with everything Kohler. Went around to Kohler, Home Depot, and other specialty plumbing outlets throughout the city. No one was able to help; fancy sales people with no useful knowledge. At least one place had the decency to recommend The Faucet Guy and refer us over to his shop. The owner was working the counter. The one item he wasn't sure of, he pulled a huge Kohler book out, referenced the part, and got it for us from his stock shelf. The other two items that no one else could address for us, he was familiar with and also had the exact parts on hand. All of these were obscure items. We were in and out in 15 minutes, after spending hours over several weekends asking for help at other places. I saw a review about the unsatisfied return customer. His return policy is very reasonable and clearly displayed. He's a small local neighborhood retailer. I wouldn't expect him to have the same policies as a big box store. But they don't provide his customer service or have his knowledge base either. The store could use a good cleaning, but it's a nuts 'n bolts, bath 'n kitchen, fixtures 'n plumbing shop. A plumber even came in while we were there. This is definitely the place to go for the DIY'er and the plumbing trade in Chicago. Noticed that he also retails bathroom and kitchen fixtures. We'll start there the next time we're looking to upgrade or redo a bathroom or kitchen. read more

A few months ago I went to the Faucet Guy and they had the obscure bathroom sink cartridge I needed, which was great. Really I'm convinced the part is unavailable anywhere else. However, they also had Roy, the greatest and kindest plumber in Chicago. I was asking a lot of questions at the shop since I planning to try the sink repair myself. Roy noticed what I was buying and heard me asking questions, so he explained to me that it was actually a pretty simple fix and walked me through it. He gave me his card and told me to call with questions. I ran into a few problems, and he was super willing to answer my questions over the phone, and to look at photos I texted him along with the questions. At one point I almost actually broke the water pipes below my sink (oops) and he stopped by with the proper tools and fixed it for me! There have been several occasions since when I've had minor plumbing issues and he's been able to help me fix it myself over the phone, and he's the nicest, most patient person. I finally had a project too big to do myself (kitchen faucet replacement) and Roy came and did it today. It took him 15 minutes and it's perfect. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mitch. I went into The Faucet Guy this afternoon with my three year old after my plumber told me that when the builders' of our home roughed in the toilet plumbing, they didn't include some important parts. All I had to go off of was a photo and my toilet model number. Mitch reached out to an associate and the two of them did an amazing amount of research for me to figure out what I needed. I was there for an hour and a half as they worked and worked to solve the case...looking online, looking at installation instructions, calling the manufacturer, etc. Mitch and his wife were sweet with my daughter and a huge help.
