Was 5 star. Multiple calls for toilet leaking still no fix so I have to say maybe More needed

I hate leaving bad reviews for local businesses, but I asked this company to install a used basketball hoop. The workers came over on time and were very nice, but apparently there was some question about the integrity of the hoop itself. They installed it without asking any questions, and after they left I noticed the hoop could only extend to a max of 6 feet tall, rendering it useless. Why wouldn't you talk to me before you cemented it in? Now I'm out $225 and all they offered to do is cut it down and I got the reply " we did what you asked us to do." * update: the "Fabulous Mr. Fix It" still hasn't removed the hoop as promised. The 4-foot-wide concrete utility sink in our laundry room lasted 55 years, but didn't make 56. I quickly decided on a large stainless-steel replacement, like the kitchen sink back in my coop days. After calling around a few places, I picked the Fabulous Mr Fix-It to do the installation. Jan runs the phones, and does some project scoping; Adam is the main guy, and had some more in-depth suggestions. They suggested I purchase the sink & faucet and have it shipped to my place; for smaller or more common items (like the hoses and fittings), they just pick them up from a local hardware store. The workman (maybe Rob, perhaps Adam's son?) had some adventures with the cementboard wall panels --- he went through a rotary-tool bit and several Dremel cut-off disks before finding a strategy with knife and hammer to get through the wall panel and to the water supply. He broke up the old sink into pieces small enough to carry out to his van, and took care of the disposal. (I helped carry the old sink out, and the new one in, which saved the trouble of a second workperson). Adam stopped by once to check how things were going, and give one or two pointers; after that, Rob and I refilled the house water pipes and he cleaned up the laundry room. The water was off for just a few hours; the whole job was done in less than a day. We decided that patching the wall was simple enough for me to take care of; I've since put up an aluminum backsplash. Mr Fix-It was by far the most responsive and courteous company I contacted about the job, had good advice, and did a stellar job on the actual execution; I'll definitely be back for similar jobs. read more

My dryer vent had a number of safety and efficiency problems. I was planning to fix them myself when I realized that the hole through my rim joist was too small to accommodate a proper 4" vent pipe. That is when I decided to hire someone to fix it for me instead of continuing down the DIY route. I talked to Adam at the Fabulous Mr Fix It who advised me on what supplies to order. The person who came out to do the installation was friendly and professional and did a perfect job including expanding the existing rim joist hole to the proper size. All of this was done for the price of the service call. I don't have any other "fix it" type projects that I need done right now but I will definitely call these guys in the future the next time something comes up that I don't want to handle myself. read more

If you need electrical work done, take your business elsewhere. We had a single problem - one electrical outlet that was not working - and were left with more problems that we started with. The guy they sent out spent 2.5 hours trying to figure out the cause of the problem, and in the course of his work, he blew out another outlet and found two others that "weren't working", even though they were fully functional the night before. Unable to solve the problem, the repair guy left, telling us that he'd have their office staff (Jan) call us back to reschedule for a rewire. It's been a week, we haven't heard a thing, and we're certainly not calling them back. When the repairman left, he also left multiple unscrewed outlets, the light on in our attic (which took a ladder to access and turn off), and issues with our wiring that weren't there before. We now have breakers tripping frequently and lights are dimming when other outlets are used. I am presently searching for an electrician who can undo the damage that was done and fix the unresolved issue with our outlet. One star for the fact that they didn't charge us for this pointless visit. read more

I couldn't be happier with the work Adam and crew did at my house. I'm anything but competent in home improvement and so I had them do several jobs, both large and small, to get my house ready for sale. I needed a quick turnaround on a safety handrail to support my real estate transaction in October, when most other handymen services were busy. So in that way, I was thankful to find Mr. Fix It, who had an early availability. But I was billed for 5 man-hours at $78/hr, and charged for the drill bit. Apparently these guys needed two people to go to Home Depot (10 mins away), and don't have their own tools. If I had been local I would have done it myself in about 3 hrs, including shopping for materials. I would have expected a pair of professionals to get it done in under 3 man-hours, not 5. It also took them almost a month to email the invoice. When I first called, the woman on the phone was very upfront/defensive about her prices without me even asking, and in retrospect that probably should have been a warning sign for me. I just really needed that early availability. I would say that if you have the luxury of taking your business elsewhere, you should do so. read more

I called them for some minor fixes to my house after a recommendation from a co-worker and scheduled a time. However they never showed up. After I called them, the secretary said that she forgot to put me on the schedule. Kind of seems like a poor operation there. Well, guess I will have to find someone else. We hired The Fabulous Mr. Fix It to come and instal a ventilation system above our range in the kitchen. They were on time, on budget and cleaned up after themselves. Adam was the one that came out to give the bid and he was the one that called the day before to confirm. Adam did not do the actual work (two other gentlemen did), but he did call to check-in on the work, which I appreciated. This was ... well, Fabulous. Mr. Fix It was good from the git-go. Person on the phone was lovely -- and very clear on pricing. The service call minimum is an hour and a half no matter what. Totally fair, but I appreciated the warning and was encouraged to line up other tasks. Adam was polite, on-time and prepared. He fixed my mildly grumpy toilet very quickly and was a freaking miracle worker on knocking off the list of second-tier projects I was ready to present. The amount of problems I had solved in 1.5 hours was .... yep, fabulous. I appreciated his skill, his organization and his kindness to show me how to solve a couple small problems on my own. We had one good experience followed by 2-3 where we felt increasingly ripped off. He has been bringing along someone who could be his son and the kid does not have A skills but you're paying for two workers. He installed one light in 2 hours! The bill was over $500 to install 3 toilets I had on site and I found out one of them wasn't seated right on the flange and had to be redone. By someone else! Won't go back. read more

Had a toilet removed and new one installed today, a fellow named Alex showed up right between the 8:30-9AM window of time, and was immediately a hit with my dog who's usually so excited to see people she gets to be a bit of a handful, but he didn't mind a bit and my pup was in heaven. Alex was very friendly, took a few minutes to explain what the job would entail/what the process was, and knocked it out without a hitch. On top of that, he hauled away the old toilet and packaging for the new one, a great 'bonus' so I didn't have to deal with it. We've had The Fabulous Mr. Fit-It over for a few such repairs and some quotes, and we'll continue to use them and recommend them to others. read more
