I'm new to FL so I was excited to be able to find an optometrists office. I'm a little weird when I get my eye pressure checked (I laugh non-stop) yet they were very patient & kind! UPDATE: Went to the office on Cortez to look for frames (because the Manatee Ave location didn't have any I wanted) & they were friendlier, the office is bigger, & they have a much wider selection of frames.

I insisted they were not and she told me I have a bad attitude. Her attempt to fix the situation was that she was going to put the 2nd prescription on both pairs. I told her that's not what I ordered and not what I paid for. I asked for my money back and she told me there would be a 25% restocking fee. So now I have to pay $475 for their mistake. I'm taking them to court.

They were booked out to September but placed me on a waitlist, and within a week a spot opened. I was seen for a routine exam on May 20, the facility was modern, the staff friendly, and the exam thorough. They booked a follow-up for May 22 to check on a new prescription and a switch from monthly to daily wear contacts. At the follow-up, Dr. Collier and I discussed ordering a 3-month supply of daily contacts. The optometrist who handles orders was already out for Memorial Weekend, so they gave me a 10-day trial supply and confirmed they would call Tuesday, May 26 to place the order. No one called. I called that afternoon, got voicemail, left a message. No response. I called again on June 2. No answer, left another voicemail. Still no response. It has been over a week with zero follow-through. My prescription changed, so my old contacts are no longer usable, and I am now down to my last day of trials. This week I am in the middle of packing & moving to our new home having to try to figure out how to make 1 final set of daily use contacts last until I can find another option, which is absolutely awful. The eye exam was great, but everything after that was an inexcusable failure in basic patient care. Stay away from Artisan Eye if you value communication as a customer.

When I woke up "Both of My eyes were hurting so much!!!! AND "For the record" I did try numerous times taking out the Contacts with Contact Lenses Solution with my thumbs but it didn't work . "Both of my eyes were hurting so much and the pain in both of my eyes was unbearable". I knew that there was no way that I could drive on I75 from LAKEWOOD RANCH. My husband was at work. Therefore, I had to wait until he got off work so he could take me directly to GULF COSTAL EYE CENTER. But the point of this review I was in so much pain and it was unbearable. Dr Steven Bovio took the time 30 minutes before closing his office to attend me. He cleared me that I didn't have the contact lenses still in my eyes and he prescribed eye drop medication to take. I called them and they said I had either option, and they explained to me that I did not need an authorization then I could choose any doctor in or out of network when I called back and explained this to her, she says well it's usually either or, and I said I'm not sure that's just how he explained it to me on the phone. She then proceeded to ask me my name, date of birth, and then my member number.,, then she looked it up and said it's neither. I said well if you would've done that the first time we would've both known., she very rudely said, "that's your job to know, not my job to look it up for you". She went on to tell me that they're only open three days a week, and then made my appointment for as far as she possibly could to inconvenience me. She acted like she did not want to be bothered at all.

This was my first time at the office and about 5 minutes after checking in, an older gentleman using a cane and barely able to walk makes his way to the front desk where he's asked how much longer until he would be seen since he's been waiting for a while. I kid you not, the older curly haired front desk receptionist says to the patient, "you've only been waiting for 30 minutes past your appointment." The older patient calmly says, "but those are my 30 minutes." At this point, the same receptionist continues to argue with the older patient about how normal it is to wait this long to see a doctor and that if he knew of another office that was faster to let her know because she doesn't know of one. I was stunned at this post. The older patient says that he can't wait any longer and that the doctor can reach out to him if she'd like to see him, and he leaves. Then as he leaves, another elderly woman next to me asks the front desk how long it would be for her, since she's also been waiting 30 minutes past her appointment. The same rude, unprofessional front desk lady then walks to the back as the patient was talking. She comes back out a minute later and says, "Dr. Davis said she doesn't know how much longer, maybe another 30 minutes." I then ask the lady patient how long she's been waiting, since I realized I'm here to see the same doctor. Mind you, I arrived 10 minutes early for my 3:00pm appointment. At this point it's 3:05pm. I then go to the front desk and another younger receptionist tells me I should expect to wait at least 1 hour before I get called in. I explain that my appointment was scheduled for 3:00pm and she tries claiming that whoever called me to make the appointment should've told me it would be 2-3 hours in the office, which I understand, but not 1 hour just to get called in. Right there and then, I ask her to cancel my appointment and I left. I would rather find another office/doctor that treats their patients with some semblance of dignity and respect. The front desk receptionists were some of the nastiest I've ever encountered. I don't often easily, but to see how the one older receptionist was treating the elderly patients was disgusting. I would never recommend anyone to this office. The staff are rude, unprofessional, and don't know how to book patients. Seemed like a mill that was just trying to cram in as many patients as they can and are overbooking patients. Stay away from this place.
