I was referred to Dr. Weinkle after having developed a fast-growing cataract following an eye…read moreinjury that had also required two retinal surgeries. He and the crew at PCEC were awesome! Thorough. Considerate. Good listeners. Good at explaining the treatment options I had along with the risks and other considerations. Because of some of my medication history and the fact I had Lasik corrective surgery years ago, there were some additional considerations in choosing the correct lens for me. I was especially impressed that they did 2 separate sets of measurements and calculations on 2 separate days to ensure that I got the right lens. Immediately following the procedure my eyesight was better than it had been in years. And now, a few weeks later, I'm back to reading without corrective lenses or glasses, and back playing tennis, swimming, and doing all the things that keep me feeling young and fit. I 100% whole-heartedly endorse Dr. Weinkle and his team at PCEC!

Everything was fine until a person tries to get an understanding of the final bill. Dr. Brian…read moreFoster did my exam and confirmed I had cataracts so appointments were scheduled for the left and right eye. At that point their financial counselor informs me under my insurance coverage, the deductible is $225 for each visit and I would be responsible for the anesthesia costs. Okay, try to figure out who and how much the anesthesia is going to be turned out to be a stupid circular exercise in futility. If a procedure is scheduled, how would I know as the patient, who the provider would be and how many units of anesthesia it would require. After multiple phone calls to the Eye Associates Patient Center, it rolls into voicemail with a message stating a return call would occur in (48) hours. No return call. Left yet again another message, no return call. I finally get in touch with a very nice woman who did provide the company and phone number for their contracted anesthesia services. I call that number and their voicemail says they do not provide information on the costs of their services. I reach out to Aetna Explorer PPO and they have no information submitted on the procedure. Keep in mind this has then been multiple, multiple calls, still no information on what the final bill would be YET the patient is responsible for all of those potential future bills. While I was perfectly comfortable paying $225 for each of the surgery center visits, it is crazy to push "back" on the patient the costs and responsibility of anesthesia without providing any details. So I cancelled my procedures given this level of patient support before the procedure, I could only imagine how pathetic it would be after the procedure if there were any issues. I do not recommend using Eye Associates - while their physicians may be qualified, the support staff is truly lacking.

A far closer ophthalmologist refused. I knew there were liability concerns, but luckily I'm very charming and got through. I had an emergency and had to see someone about a possible detaching retina. The technicians photographed both my retinae and Dr B, having analyzed the images and assessed my description of my symptoms, came to a conclusion that put me at ease. I'm not just giving a good score because I received good news-- that would be irresponsible. Two weeks later, my eyesight is fine: he was clearly right. I suffered from a separate problem a few days later: conjunctivitis, aka pinkeye. And, because I have a history of including some complaints along with praise, my yelp reviews can come off as passive aggressive (and maybe sometimes they are?) I'm just being honest. I mention the bad along with the good. I want to state emphatically that I don't believe I contracted it from this office, because I watched them wipe down each and every machine before I used it. I think I got this from the airport. So why even mention the pinkeye? Only to say: If I were still in Florida, I would have returned to this same facility for guidance. One star off because my local ophthalmologist didn't receive a fax that was supposed to have come from Dr Bhullar's office, although that could be due to a technical glitch. I found the staff to be very kind and helpful, and Dr Bhullar was very professional. He's great. Thank you.

When we relocated to the area, I returned to the practice for regular treatment. I saw Dr Ames and now Dr Davis. The reception staff have always been very pleasant. The optical department will adjust your glasses and clean them while you wait. The reviews about wait times are accurate. My recent visit took about 90 mins, most of it waiting. That's actually not bad for this office because past visits have taken 3-4 hours - again mostly waiting. If you know what to expect you can plan - bring a book to pass the time. Refractions are $55 and not covered by most insurance, according to the sign, so they charge you for it up front. They refuse to submit eye exams through vision insurance- only medical, so you have to submit that vision claim yourself.
