At this point I've done 6 of their 7 escape rooms, so you could say I'm a fan. Quality rooms, interesting puzzles (beyond just "find the four-digit code" over and over), surprising twists, high-quality props and staging. The unlimited hints have come in handy a number of times! Gold Rush remains the fam favorite, for spoiler reasons I won't get into here, followed by Art Heist and Playground (so great that they have an escape experience for a bigger group!) We did Special Ops yesterday, which was challenging with four kids...let's just say they hit that hint button more than once. The staff is always incredible - helpful, patient, funny, engaged - and always goes above and beyond with all their customer interactions. read more

So fun that we started in Las Vegas in January... it's April and we have 1 more till we have done them all. The staff here are so fun, energetic, and the location is perfect at Ala Moana. It's on the target end of the mall. Parking is easy. While Parking is at Ala moana depending on what time you go. The rooms are so fun and we made- such good effects. I like that the clues are endless however as a family, we try not to use the clues. We make it a thing that we "agree" if we're going to use a clue The past few rooms that we have done we had SUR as our guide... if that's what you call them. Located near Target, we celebrated a family member's birthday here with not one but TWO escape rooms. Surprisingly, photos are allowed, but I was too involved with trying to escape that I did not take any photos. Inside the rooms, there were clever clues to solve even one involving a BB gun to shoot targets to get clues when the target fell! Of course we had to try one of the hardest rooms, "Prison Break" which we almost didn't escape, but our host was great at helping us solve the puzzles. UPDATE: Our previous bad experience was definitely a one off mistake and hopefully it was a good learning experience for The Escape Game. The assistant manger handled the situation quickly and beautifully. Eddie gave us a call and email immediately to try to get in contact with us. When we were finally able to connect he was so sincere in his apologies, he had reviewed footage and spoke with his team, and really just went above and beyond to ensure everything was covered. Eddie made some arrangements for us to have a "redo" experience and we had a phenomenal time. We are really grateful for the care and consideration that went into remedying the situation. All in all, we would highly recommend playing with them. We have always had an amazing time before this one off situation. They really do have some of the best escape rooms and proven wonderful customer service. Played a game here while on vacation in HI. It was a blast and the greeter and game master were very helpful. They only gave clues when we asked for it so it gave us time to sort through the problems and then get a nudge in the right direction. My family had a blast and we bought some shirts on the way out. This was the first time I did an escape room! Booking the time slots were easy to do online or over the phone. It is $45/person, but if you're kama'aina, you get a little discount. Just ask, present your ID and they'll assist you with a refund. There are waivers to sign so I recommend to complete it beforehand on the website. If not, they have available tablets there to do them. We chose to do the most difficult room 9/10, Prison Break. We had 7 people in our group (max 8 for the room) and we split into 2 groups, for cell 1 and cell 2. Our room moderator was Joseph and he had awesome energy. He quickly gave us the rules so we could get started. For one whole hour, he was a great help, giving us hints when we needed it the most. I don't want to spoil anything for Prison Break, but you will need very good communication at first in the separate cells. When we get through the first room, we come together and solve the rest as a group. We successfully escaped with only 5 minutes remaining! I highly recommend to try it out. I had a blast. I had so much fun at this escape room. I get so ungodly hot when I do escape rooms. I have no idea why. It's kind of like when you go under a desk to plug stuff in. I just get hot. We did the prison escape which was interesting. It was only three of us, we needed a bunch of hints, and we barely finished with 3-4 min remaining. There are a few moments where it's absurdly odd (chess pieces) and there's a lot of cues that the DM watches for. Overall it's a cute spot in Ala Moana, it was clean, I had a lot of fun and would go again to a different puzzle. read more

These guys are top notch! Made reservations & paid online. I had 4 minors planning to do the Train game on their own, signed & submitted waivers. Because each game can hold up to 8 players, there were 4 more spots open for their game. 2 adults reserved spots. When my kids went to play, due to the adults that had signed up they needed their own adult present for safety factors. I questioned it but appreciated it. They allowed me to attend the game without paying & to be there to observe. My kids enjoyed this one! Everyone worked well together & o my needed to ask the game master for one hint. Super cool game! The games were so much fun we went back the next day for round 2! On the first day, we did the train timeline game with Aiden as our game host. He was amazing and really got us hyped and excited for the game. The next day, we had some time to kill before our midnight flight back home so we decided to go for the gold rush game. Sur helped us get situated at the front desk and we were thrilled to have Aiden as our game host again. Both Aiden and Sur gave good vibes and were extremely welcoming and helpful in explaining the rules and theme of each game. We aren't experts in escape room and really appreciated their patience. The Depths was very fun and so interactive. Plus there's always a nice surprise or two even though I've done many escape rooms before. We actually escaped from the Gold Rush room at their Las Vegas location, so we were hyped to find there was The Escape Game also in Honolulu. I used a Groupon which saved me some $$ since it was a full party of 8. Also, the place is a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the Ala Moana mall. We walked from Hilton Hawaiian Village, ventured toward Target and found it on the floor below. If you never tried escape room game before then you are missing out. This location is inside Ala Moana shopping center, lots of parking. They have a lot of different games with different level of difficulty that you can choose from. Upon arrival, you need to sign a waiver. And the game host will lead you to the room and explain a few details and you can start playing the game. The game usually last one hour, there's a button you can press to get hints and you can get unlimited hints to help you finish the game we always try not to use the hints as much as possible. I must say the few games that I played at this place are pretty fun and somewhat difficult. It makes it pretty challenging but rewarding when you escape. I also believe if you have a larger group of people, it will help solve the game easier. They do have toilet but only one for male, one for female. When people finish the game, everybody standing in line to use the bathroom. One thing I don't like is the room is really dark, so hard to see and read, especially I have to wear a reading glasses. So this was my first time at this location. It was so easy from the booking online to checking in. I highly recommend! We booked for a group of 9 but ended up with just 8 people. Because we paid in advance I was able to get a refund for the one person who couldn't make it. Also, kamaʻāina get a discount so it was taken of our total cost at check in. I didn't know what to expect but I assumed there would be several challenges and rooms to go through. No spoilers so I won't say how many rooms we had. Our group did The Heist which was really cool. The story is that we had to expose a fraud by getting into the office and finding the stolen goods and of course it had to be done in less than an hour. The group I came with is the youth group which I am an advisor for so this was an excellent communication and team building activity. Everyone was able to participate and one of the teens said it was neat to see how others in the group think and problem solve. I felt that each person's view was needed in order for us to complete the tasks. There are unlimited hints but we tried really hard not to ask for too many. My only disappointment was that there wasn't an official photo with your time that you could take (like a board to write the finish time). However I really loved that we could take photos during the game and after with the props! Our room monitor Sharanne was so gracious and took several photos for us. A few tips for your visit: It helps to have paper and a pen to jot down some of the things that you are trying to find. Take pictures! It was fun to be able to take photos during the game. Make sure everyone participates! Sharanne wrote down each of our highlights during the game and we got a "recap card" at the end with the individual contributions. So cool and a nice reminder of good works. All the teens enjoyed the game and want to come back. A group of friends went to the Escape Game Honolulu for one of our birthdays, and we had lots of fun! We arrived 10 minutes before our scheduled time that one of us booked online. We signed waivers either beforehand or on site. The escape room itself was great for a group of six. There was enough space and enough to figure out that no one was bored. We were challenged, but not so much that we got discouraged. And our room guide gave us clues as we wanted. Seamus was a great room guide! He was friendly, helpful, and explained everything we needed to know. My only issue is that $45/person for one hour of fun is more than I like to pay. And if you finish your escape room quickly, it's less than an hour. read more

I love the challenges and we feel like the staff are our biggest cheerleaders. They help make the game super fun. I love the challenges and how they actually help us get into characters and feel like a living book. The props are thoughtful and rooms are well designed and beautiful. You can actually pick some up and place it to solve the puzzle. I feel like the puzzles really build onto the story. I love the themes and how every plot feels different. It's amazing and definitely team building. We couldn't have done it without our friends. Everyone contributed differently to solve the puzzle. It's takes some out of the box thinking to help. Larger groups can start their experience with up to 52 people at once." They also offer options for team building and larger groups. I've never been to an "escape room" before and have always been intrigued. It was really easy to book a time and game. We did everything online on the same day, right before the game started. Pricing was $42.99/ person before tax, a bit on the pricier side. I was a bit worried that there would only be the 2 of us the whole time... as I'm not super duper smart and was worried we wouldn't "be able to escape in time" LOL! But the rooms are "shared experiences" so multiple groups can book the same game. Which is fantastic because different people can contribute and use their strengths to help problem solve! It's nice to have more "hands on" members as it adds to figuring things out. Some members also added to the ambiance. There was a waiver to fill out when we got to the location. We tried "The Heist" game. Max # of players was 8. We had 6 people total. The game was rated a 8/10 difficulty and we were given 60 minutes/ 1 hour to successfully figure the mystery out. As described on their website, "Complete a Successful Art Heist. Attn. Agent, your mission should you choose to accept it: pull off the ultimate museum heist. A priceless Monet painting has recently gone missing from the Barclay Museum of Historical Art. We have reason to believe it's been nabbed by the museum's curator, Vincent Hahn. Your mission -- slip through the museum galleries undetected, break into Hahn's office, recover the painting, and high-tail it out of there before he returns! The Heist is the second escape room we released and it still remains one of our most popular games to this day!" Without spoiling anything, there are different difficulty levels for each themed room. I really liked that there are multiple rooms per game. As it gets more interesting unlocking the next room and figuring things out. There's a clear story line and objective. Everything was thought out really well, how everything is built reflects this and items were made decently. Not flimsy or cheap. The unlimited hints were super useful!!! As they helped to inspire more problem solving without giving everything away. Definitely pay attention to detail. Touch everything, you might find a clue! The staff there were super friendly and explained everything in detail. The wallpaper in the restrooms were very tropical and bright. They were very clean. I really enjoyed the mystery and thrill! I also appreciated how well the room themes were planned and executed. If you're thinking about coming here to do the escape rooms, do it! It's pretty fun :) read more

It was one unbeatable way to exercise brain power, and the best part: friendly, courteous and helpful staff to assist in mission accomplishment; they called it: I Escaped! I do have a couple suggestions for improvements. First, they need to lower the room temperature. It was uncomfortably hot when we visited. Second, need more powerful and lasting flashlights. The couple of them in the room didn't last long in the dark room; besides, they were way too weak to shine properly to find clues. Although quite pricey, this is pretty much the going rate for these types of things I guess. We went for a 12yr old bday party. It was his first time and he was anxious (or maybe we were more anxious for him, because we knew how this could really frustrate him) so they were very good about the unlimited hints and I also believe our "timer" was glitching towards the end because I swear I saw 2:40 left multiple times. That is the only way we were able to "escape". At the other escape place in Waikiki, we only had a certain number of hints, and the room was harder. I think THE ESCAPE GAME at Ala Moana is better for younger kids and/or first timers who are pretty clueless with these things because they have more "easy" rooms. It meant SO MUCH to the birthday boy that he was able to "escape", I can not even emphasize this enough. It was good for him to feel like he was able to finish, he was talking about it forever, he loved it and that's really all that mattered. I'm sure he'll want to go again now. Priceless. read more

The details, sound effects, and technology we could use was outstanding -- the fact that we could use our phones for flashlights (and not fight over one flashlight given to us) and had unlimited clues was liberating!!! This is the first review I have ever made where 5* is not enough! My kids and I went on Saturday night. We got paired up with another family who pretty much ignored us and swarmed the room, excluding us. Within minutes we knew the evening was not going to be fun, so we left. The staff member at the front (probably the manager) told us that the control person monitoring the room told her what happened with the other family and they took SUCH AMAZING CARE OF US that I dont even want to write how much they did for us to make up for what wasn't even their fault. It was truly amazing. My kids and I went back today today and did our first escape room. I have not had that much fun in a very long time. My kids had an amazing time. I had an amazing time. Our control room monitoring person was nothing but kind and sweet to us. Everyone treated us like we were the most important people on the planet. I cannot reccomend this business enough. The event was amazing. The people were amazing. I have not been treated so well by any business in my life. They went over and above for my me and my kids and we will be customers forever! They wanted to make things right after the last time...and succeeded! The manager Craig & asst manager Emma invited me back; I brought a group with my two kids and their friends. We tried "The Heist". Everything went smoothly this time with no hitches and their customer service is excellent. Craig and Emma make sure I was satisfied that the glitches from last time were rectified immediately. This is what customer service is all about! Believe me, it was very challenging but a lot of fun. Even with all the brain power we had to get clues twice. We only took 1/2 the alotted time but had a lot of fun. They say they're building two more rooms...looking forward to trying what's already there, and the two added rooms in the future! Love this place for the fun of an escape room, clever set design details, and the thought provoking puzzles. The set (when needed) was weathered which gave them an old look. Did 4 escape rooms and all was great with multiple rooms. Did some of the escape rooms with a 10 and 8 year old which they had fun, but the puzzles may be challenging to them. I just let them either do the easy ones or let them finish the puzzle. Game masters were great. The clues provided were not so much that it gives the whole puzzle away (unless they know you really having trouble). Games are not closed meaning other parties could join your game. Really no issue and we had no issues when with other random groups, plus it helps when you have different minds tackling puzzles. Definitely returning for sure. Probably will do all the puzzles after a number of years. The only thing is that the price is a little up there per person for an escape room. read more

If you've never been to an escape room, let me spell it out for you. If you like to solve semi challenging puzzles, riddles, crosswords, etc. this is for you. If you like to work as a team to solve the previously mentioned items, this is for you. I have no doubt one could escape on their own but if you have friends, teamwork is important. Even if you think you're not contributing, look for something to do. There's so much! If you work well under pressure with a 1 hour time limit, this place is for you. If you have an issue with working in close proximity of other people or anxiety or take issue with the things mentioned above, either plan your trip ahead of time or plan another adventure. This was my first time here. But not my first time escaping. I called a few weeks ago for some information. Rachel helped me. She was awesome! Be aware: if you have a big group and want to secure room(s), you totally can. However, you would need to pay upfront. My understanding is if you have a cancellation, they offer store credit. Not too keen on that if you don't go often. For this, you'd want to secure the people going before hand or not book for a party. What we did was go through the website. We picked the room we wanted and the day and time and we each bought our individual tickets. The website updates in real time. The crazy thing is if you have a room that can house 8 people and 6 sign up, you could actually end up having 2 random people sign up and fill the remaining spaces. That's wild to me! I don't know you but I trust you to help me escape. Very Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Our time was scheduled for 6:45p. We had to wait for the last person. So they let us wait until 6:55. It was very nice of them to do that. I'm sure it makes resetting harder for them. Safety is their biggest concern. In the past, escape rooms would lock you in and you escape...hence the game. However, here the doors are left unlocked. They even said if anyone comes late, they can just let them in. I'm like....open the door...we escaped! Where's my tshirt? Lol A great way to spend an hour.
