Columbus Day weekend, I was in Mexico, NY for a fishing trip with a group of friends. We decided to go over to Eis House (a short walk up the street) for drinks and dinner. It was just absolutely fantastic. We all sat at the bar and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a bar in a busy restaurant. The food, the drinks, our 'birthday girl' server (I'll forgo adding her name To this so I don't embarrass her) were all exactly what I needed that night. It was 10/10 on all fronts and had a great couple of hours there. This place is a diamond in the rough for sure. Loved it. Will be back every year. read more

The Eis House was a great experience! My colleagues and I only came for the restaurant and I highly recommend you do as well. You don't need a room to enjoy great food. We got there as the doors opened and so it was empty. We got quickly sat and right to business. Ordering from a variety of drinks and food that we all enjoyed. The service was great and our server was fun and enjoyable, matching the ridiculous energy of our table. It was a Thursday which is flatbread night and we got a could of amazing ones. We were just at The Eis House this past weekend for our friends wedding and we had an absolute blast! Debbie, Chrissy and the entire staff there were amazing. We left there calling each other our NEW FAMILY! We stayed in Room 3 for the weekend, it's a nice room, no real complaints. The food, AMAZING! I had used The Eis House for my July 2024 wedding, and it was great despite a few things. The older women who does the weddings and events is not nice in the slightest, wish they had someone else to handle the day. The food did not taste as great as when we had our tasting prior to the wedding but it was still good and the guests enjoyed it so that is all that mattered to me really. It seemed very unorganized and they didn't seem to have all the details for the big day but they did end up getting ironed out. Besides not being very organized, nothing got in the way of my husband and I having the best day of our lives. If they made a few minor changes there would be not issues at all. I do enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant though so we will be back to dine again. read more

A comedy of errors. A friend bought me my birthday dinner there last week. No signage outside to direct us to the entrance, so we wandered around outside till someone told us the entrance was on other side of the building. ( OK if you're a regular, new guests have no idea) So easily solved with a sign facing the parking lot entrance. No one greeted us until we entered a small, dark dining room, where we were seated in a dim corner where we couldn't read the menus. I moved us to a table near a window. Very unenthusiastic waiter, zero interpersonal skills. Ordered a Fat Tire, one of their featured beers, he came back and said they were out, no offer of an alternative. Our water glasses were filthy, I mean not just water spots but filthy, we requested clean ones. Waiter took 2 glasses away, brought them back hot and dripping wet. Can't make this up. Got my grilled shrimp tacos. Badly overdressed, dripping everywhere. shrimp never saw a grill, zero grill marks. They were big shrimp, making it impossible to eat the tacos easily. There's a time to serve big shrimp, this wasn't one of them. Done with dinner, woman walked in and said we were sitting in the dark, turned the lights on. Surprise, there were lights! She was one of 5 sibling owners who bought the bar 1.5 years ago. She said that she normally does the books but had come in for their skirt steak taco special, which I would've ordered had I known. Again, easily solved by waiter reciting specials, or a specials menu like real restaurants. There was a nice bar crowd and tables at the bar, but I've sat in enough bars in my life. Would never go there again without serious changes. I was a Sous chef at 2 fine dining restaurants very early in life, so I know the restaurant business. These weren't fine dining errors, just no standards and/or no enforcement of standards. The 5 siblings need to get together and work on the details, because they have a long, long way to go. Just a terrible dining experience. I felt like I was in an episode of Bar Rescue. John Taffert would tear this place apart, which is exactly what it needs. I called and left a message requesting this owner to call me for feedback but I never received a call back, hence this review. read more

Got the wrong waitress, forgot me 5 times, ordered drinks, food and dessert from other waitresses. It was pathetic, I complained to management. It was so bad, first time ever I said no tip. Picked up dinner to go on our way up north to our camp and were not disappointed. I ordered the Cajun haddock strawberry salad and my husband had the fried haddock dinner. We had a Mother's Day buffet today at the Eis house. Terrible meal. The buffet left a lot to be desired. The mashed potatoes were hard and cold. The fish was cold. The beef was mediocre. There were no salad plates. We asked for some and the server just shrugged and said there was none. They ran out of chocolate cake for dessert. It cost us 68 dollars and we were super unhappy. The food was a little overpriced based on quality and presentation. That being said I didn't feel like I was eating a bunch of canned or frozen food. It seemed freshly prepared, which is hard to find in this area. We ate in the bar area which was pretty cozy with its wood stove. Weight staff was great. read more

My husband and I were married here in June of 2011 while we were living in Syracuse - it has such a quiet and quaint quality about it that we loved. The campus is beautiful, set next to a small river with multiple buildings for events and a deck that connects everything. It's a great setting for beautiful photos. Our ceremony was held in the garden (we had about 85 guests) with chairs set up there and on the deck as well. Our reception was held in the Mirror Room and fit everyone comfortably. It has a cute loft upstairs, which my photographer loved and used to take some great overhead photos. We had a simple buffet setup and everyone enjoyed the food. The staff was helpful and set up the room beautifully, however, if you're planning on having table numbers, I would highly recommend creating or bringing your own. Being a designer, I created virtually every printed piece for our wedding, but when it came to table numbers, I assumed that this was something simple enough for the Eis House to provide. Well, I realized that was a mistake when I saw that every table had a randomly shaped and haphazardly cut number. In the big picture though, this is really the only thing that went wrong and NO ONE noticed besides me :) All in all, you really can't beat the price for such a beautiful setting, even if this is a bit out of the way. I would definitely consider the Eis House if you're looking for an affordable and intimate location for your wedding. read more

I have no idea what any other positive or even mediocre reviews are talking about. This place is truly a disaster, which leads me to believe that they stay open due to lack of competition in the area, which would seem true. I arrived at 5:30 to fond no seating due to reservations, which I completely understand, so my party decided to sit at a booth in the bar. We sat at our booth for more than 20 minutes without anyone waiting on us at all. As we are literally standing up to leave, a waitress runs over to us and throws a single menu our way when we needed 2. We wait for another 20 minutes before we can put in orders to the bartender and another 40 minutes before our food was served. The two other tables that were seated after us received their food before us. The waitress even swiped all of the condiments off our table and gave them all to the table behind us....right in front us! Mind you we've been sitting there for roughly 90 minutes before our food is served. And the food? Absolutely horrendous. Starving children in China would send it back to where it came from. This place could turn toasted cheese into a significant health risk. I ordered the fish sandwich and within about five bites had to go to the restroom with vomiting. That's how bad this place is....they somehow managed to spoil a frozen fish fillet! Maybe my standards are higher than the area since I'm not from around there. Maybe I caught them on an off-night. Maybe Hurrica Irene caused some sort of weird astronomical anomoly that is responsible for ruining my meal and the crappy service....but I doubt it. And they claim to host weddings. W-H-A-T?!?!? This place was so extremely awful that the rest of my party found comfort and solace in a Subway down the street. How bad is that? This was our first visit since the new owners took over (in 2014) and we were not disappointed! First off, upon talking to our server we learned that these folks had made a wise decision and kept the previous chef. While the menu has changed (we certainly miss the gouda-stuffed chicken breast that used to be a staple for us), we understand that the chef is given more of a free hand in determining not only the daily specials, but frequently the accompaniments that go with regular menu items. We started with some Hot Tom oil, a slightly spicy, very garlicky tomato-based oil that leads most sensible people to completely ignore the butter that also arrives with the fresh bread. I'm notably not a bread eater any more, but I made an exception for this dipping sauce; every bit as good as I remembered it being. The bread tasted fresh, and could have only been improved had it been heated a bit prior to table delivery. For our main courses, we ordered the Chicken Marsala from the regular menu and a Cajun Salmon finished with a roasted local peach buerre blanc. The chicken was very nicely prepared, the mushrooms were fresh and tasty, and the Marsala sauce was spot on, full of flavor without being overpowered by the wine. The salmon was quite excellent, a blend of cajun spices formed a crust on the fish while the buerre blanc was rich and buttery, the roasted peaches in the sauce giving it a most excellent flavor. My concerns about the flavor of peach combining oddly with that of salmon were groundless - obviously the chef here has an excellent sense of what works (more so than me!) My only (very minor) critique would be on the vegetable of the day, which happened to be green beans. While they tasted fresh, I thought the preparation was somewhat uninspired. Simple steaming worked fine for us because of the flavorful sauces we were both enjoying, but had these been a side dish for a steak or chop, they would have been fairly bland. It was a quiet evening in the dining room - we had the place pretty much to ourselves for most of our dinner, and our server took excellent care of us throughout. The bar is separated enough from the dining area that we were able to enjoy quiet conversation in spite of the decent-sized crowd there watching the game. We'll certainly be back! read more

I absolutely feel in love with this place a long time ago... and still go back and eat great meals . We always enjoy the fresh atmosphere. I love the Roman Haddock or Roman Scallops...Bread is baked fresh and really homemade every day, try the HOT TOM Dipping oil.. the Delmonico steak is my husband's favorite, the Bistro (fillet) is my brother in law's favorite and they have lots of Pasta and more Delicious specials too. They have really good desserts.. White chocolate mousse in an edible choc bowl with raspberry sauce..once We had Tiramisu there that was out of this world!rWe really like eating outside on their deck over looking the gardens and river in the summer...they also have a late night sports bar with lively people...fun for singles....try it some time!!!! read more

We attended the mother's day buffet, overall it was good. We had toss salad,rolls,fish florintine,ham,vegs,mashed potatoes,beef,pasta, chicken,desserts,soup. The service was a little slow but ok. The potatoes had way to much pepper and that spoiled the experience for all 4 of us. not sure we will be back next year. Not sure how the normal service is but it might be ok. My wife and I decided to try this restaurant since we're renting a place on the lake later this summer near here (and family coming in from out of state). An excellent choice! Food, service and beverages were great. My wife had the haddock and I had the Chicken parm. Both dishes were excellent with very large portions. We started with the bread and sauce-delicious. Bread was fresh and the sauce was awesome! Next we shared the antipasto-as good as it gets!!! My wife is Italian, and said it was the best antipasto we've ever ordered out! I agree. A very enjoyable meal, a great setting and the service was prompt and friendly!! I highly recommend this establishment and will definitely be returning with my family..Keep up the great work!!! Had a great time over the past week at the EIS house. Room was spotless, and had plenty of space. Went into the bar, very nice , had French onion soup and chicken Reggies which were good. My friend had Chicken Parmigiana and salad was also very pleased. Waitress was very attentive and friendly. While making my reservations to stay, Justin he was very accommodating and responded back via email immediately. I had a great experience at the EIS house , will definitely come back and would highly recommend for others. read more

We decided to stop at the EIS House after going to the Apple Farm and we are sure glad we did. Our Waitress Laysa was amazing and was so good with both our boys (1,3) every time she walked by she made an attempt to keep them occupied and having fun. The building is awesome and the food was the best I've had in awhile. Everything you can tell was homemade and she recommended a burger for my wife that she loved. Arena's Eis House is an institution in Mexico. My parents had their wedding reception there in the 70s, I had my Eagle Scout ceremony there and we've eaten there countless times. It is an excellent restaurant in an out of the way place. The staff knows the regulars by name and it's not unusual to be greeted an seated by one of the owners. Service is always with a smile. The quality of the food and the variety is very good. It can get a bit pricey depending on what you order, but the food is always tasty and they run a lot of specials. If you go on a busy weekend night, be prepared for a short wait as the place is popular with the locals. read more

Had the Chicken Parm delivered right to the bar, quick and friendly service. Only downside being that the chicken was drenched in so much sauce, it wasn't hard to see that it was a mighty small portion.
