As someone who's a relative neophyte to cigars, Rick was patient with me while also not being too gentle with steering me towards quality. If you come with an open mind and a thirst for conversation, Rick will deliver. Perhaps, judging by some of the reviews here, not the best place to be if you are already set in your ways. But that is not advice that is borne from my experience in his shop, so take that as you will. Rick's shop has a personal touch and cozy feel that I feel is generally really lacking in most places in the tri-cities, and is something I missed from some of the boutique establishments I've chanced upon in my travels all over the united states. Rare places like these are a foothold of culture that differentiates a town from just a concentrated collection of strip malls and pre-fabricated homes. Today was my first time walking into Education Cigar and Pipe....wow, what a nice selection of cigars and all fresh! If you are a regular cigar smoker or never smoked one before definitely stop into Education Cigar and Pipe as the staff will help you to find the one for you. The selection is extremely large and can be overwhelming so ask for assistance. Today I just purchased a few cigars and looked around of all the accessories that Education Cigar and Pipe have, excellent prices and for accessories from ash trays to lighters. I am not a pipe smoker but notice all the pipe tobacco. When you buy your cigar go through the casino and you can grab a drink and go outside t the outdoor smoking area where you can set and relax with hour cigar, drink and watch a sports game! If you want a $5-8 cigar; go elsewhere. This shop focuses on highly-rated, top-quality cigars for reasonable prices (considering their quality). You know, for the average person whom may not be a cigar snob, just stay away from this place. Seriously, I was made to feel like a complete a**hole for asking a question about a type of cigar, which evidently is more of a convience store buy, type cigar. I was looking for someone else and dont know much about cigars. Instead of perhaps nicely educating me, or saying "hey, those are lower end, you might be interested in this" I was simply told to go to 7-11! Wtf!?! Just rude, and laughable. Nice guy that runs the place, however I notices pretty high prices. Andulsian bull for 35. 00 is a rip off. I see them go for 16.50 to 18.00... Auctually his prices in general are the highest iv seen in America, and I travel for a living. Dubai has the the higest price at 175. 00 for 3 obscura cigars from Davidoff. But still and educated guess makes me. Maybe there is a 200 percent tax Im not familiar with I have no idea but. The selection is OK here, and the service is friendly. He has created a unique treasure trove of very highly rated cigars and cellar aged wines this 95 plus WS and WE ratings. I pulled up at around 4:30pm, past a couple guys playing cards near the door, who completely ignored me. I walked into an empty shop, with a sign on the counter saying that if I wanted help, I had to go back outside and ask for "Rick". Luckily, I'm more than confident in what I'm looking for. I was immediately struck by the seemingly haphazard, messy presentation of the cigars in the cabinet humidors. If there was any kind of organization, I couldn't fathom it. Brands, sizes, types, etc, were randomly arranged throughout the 3 cabinets, with different sizes of the SAME CIGAR placed in totally different areas. As I attempted to find something I wanted, I almost couldn't believe my eyes, doing a double take. There were some Carillo Inch cigars with a blue/green haze to them. I opened the cabinet door, trying not to believe what I was seeing, and was smacked with the tell-tale musty odor of cigar mold. Sure enough, several of the Inches were COVERED in fuzzy mold (NOT plume - I know what that is, and seek it out). It's one thing for an amateur cigar smoker to accidentally mold his cigars, but for an "educated" cigar shop?? Totally unacceptable! All the cigars in that cabinet were immediately removed from consideration, likely having been ruined by their close proximity to that much mold. I would've walked out then and there, but I'm in town for a week and out of cigars. I ended up finding a couple, walked out to summon "Rick", and bought my cigars. Second star because he gave me a free bottle of water. I won't be back. read more

I enjoy stopping in this shop whenever I travel to the Tri-Cities area. Great selection of cigars and Rick seems to take care of his customers well. I'm only in the area a handful of times per year but when I'm here I always look forward to stopping by the Educated Cigar shop. read more
