The cakes look too good to eat; the kind you'd fine in high-end pâtisseries in Paris. These are undeniably pretty cakes! But when it came to taste, there was something missing. You might recognize the name from their previous location in Morningside. Sadly I did not stay for long as I was in a hurry, but the two empty leather sofas looked tempting to just grab a book, slurp a coffee and sample a cake. No, my aim was to get a few slices of cheesecake to share for a bigger party of nine. I ended up buying a whole cake for £25. Slices of cakes are about £3. I should mention that I was really lucky to get a full cake as normally they need an advanced notification of 24h's, what is completely understandable. Amazed by all the different types of scrumptious cheesecakes (maltesers, berries, mars bars, banana etc) on display, it was really hard to choose the one for me. Something simple was just right and I ended up with their most popular flavour of banoffee. Inside, the interior is very pink, but reflects the heart of the shop to be playful, gracious and of course scrumptious. There are a few shelves with accessories for sale. In one of the corners you will find a children's play area where they can enjoy their own tea parties. Just lovely! The place is very spacious and it makes it easy for mothers with pushchairs to maneuver around. The shop only opened about 9 weeks ago and already plays a big part in the community. Yes, people go there and enjoy a lovely and tasty cake with a hot beverage, having a chat, meeting friends or family, attending a knitting group on a Tuesday evening (open to anybody) and lots more. Ideas for other evening entertainments are very welcome by the proud owner Sam who also is the master baker and will try to accommodate your needs as much as she can. The staff is really friendly. Parking is around the corner or in another side road. Buses are frequent as its the main road to the airport. Just enjoy a quick shop after a nice rest and cake at Scrumptiousness!

Many of the previous features remain and the walls have been covered with pink sheets -weirdly, it sorta works. There's a kids play area but most of the kids here are sitting with their mothers, happily munching away on cake! On a Saturday afternoon, as I write this, the place is hopping! Plenty of large groups of women having tea and cake. I saw an afternoon tea cake stand nearby and many tables seem reserved. The staff are happy, smiling constantly and enjoying a chat with everyone! So, on to the negative...I ordered a cake last Sunday to be collected today. Unfortunately when I showed up I wasn't in the list for today - so no cake! I was able to show the emails to the staff and as we speak they are whipping me up a cake while I sit and relax with a free coffee! Their excellent manner, cheerfulness and willingness to make me a cheesecake on short notice to right their mistake goes to show how nice this place is! On delivery the cake was of lower quality than one you could have bought in a supermarket, with a figure on top of it which looked like it took about 5 minutes to make, and was totally unrecognisable as a bodybuilder (looked more like a fat man sat on the side of a swimming pool) The reason they gave was 'short notice' but I've got to say, if 3 weeks is short notice then what do they need? Thoroughly disappointed and will never go back, avoid at all costs!

Joyce's cake shop is full of photographs of some of the work that she has done and they all look not only delicious but they look like pieces of art. This is not a wedding cake shop but a cake for any purpose, you can ask her to make a cake to emulate any object you so wish. There are cakes done in the shapes of trains, burgers and curiously enough in the shape of an phone, I'm not quite sure who would want a cake in the shape of an phone, but it just shows that no matter what you want, Joyce could make it. There are no price tags within the shop and each cake will cost a different price depending on how big you want it and what ingredients you choose and whether you want any accessories for the cake. I do imagine that it would be pretty pricey, but if you want a special day to be extra special, then it would be definitely worth it.

I went with the Sticky Toffee one, because since moving here, I realize that anything Sticky Toffee is going to be damn good and damn good it was. The icing was a bit much for me - i've never been a big icing gal, but everything under that layer was pure joy. Pure. Cupcake. Joy. Not to mention, they are basically a instagrammers dream... if you remember to take a picture before inhaling the thing, the staff are the sweetest and they offer gluten free options, online ordering and the minor detail that won me over: the boxes have individual holes for each cupcake, so when you're balancing two boxes on your way to a 9am meeting, you don't end up with smushed cupcakes upon arrival. They obviously think this stuff through and it shows in everything they do. Let's get those out of the way first: the card machine was broken - not their fault I know, but running up the road in the rain to the nearest cashpoint does sully one's experience a little. FInally, the girl serving didn't ask me if I wanted ketchup on my bacon roll, leaving me to assume it would be delivered on the side anyway, which it wasn't... But those are minor aggravations. Mini mini mini qualms. Overall, PJ is quite simply L.O.V.E.L.Y. Big and fresh and high-ceilinged, with a good line in yummy-looking cakes (including some simply adorable mini macarons) and a fine Chesterfield sofa, this is my kinda place for real. I don't get out to this end of town all that much but this is definitely a beacon to draw me back. (Although it looks like they're opening a branch on South Bridge, so, y'know. Tasty latte and they sell fentimans curiosity cola which is a real treat. Good service. how refreshingly nice to have home made produce with good quality ingredients that the person who made it can tell you all about it. All veggie as they don't use gelatine! Hurrah.
