Drove down to crest to have coffee with Zip and found this place on yelp :) zip and I are both Christians and were happy to find a place that was not afraid to promote their beliefs. The ambiance was so inviting (both inside and the patio) we sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather . The food was also pretty great. My half sandwich and soup was tasty. I had the roasted tomato with chicken and bacon and the chicken and wild rice soup. Now on to the cold brew...yummy!!! And that cold foam on top I didn't want it to end. Came here to do some work and was very pleased with my choice. Ordered a Medium Chai Tea Latte (with milk, of course), was about $4 and some change. Service with a smile and free wifi. Has a nice cozy living-room feel to the cafe. It is a bit small, but I saw a staircase upon entering - maybe there's more seating upstairs? At any rate, it's a great spot and has long open hours - which is SUPER considering that some cafes near the area close early in the afternoon! Might give the baked goods and other drinks a try next time. The location is also perfect. Downtown Crete where there's an Aurelio's Pizza next door (in case you want to go there for dinner), a Caraway cafe down the street, Benton Street cafe a couple blocks over, Jason's Pub across the street from Benton, and a workout place within proximity - in case you need to work off all of these options! read more

This is such a tricky review to write. Here's the thing, I'm not into organized religion and I can't stand being evangelized. I view religion as a very personal matter. I'm not that interested in what other people think about it and I don't really care to discuss my views either. So, this was obviously my issue with The Edge. I didn't know that it was a coffee shop that is actually a way to disseminate religious propoganda: bible verses on the wall, prayer books on every flat surface, religious books on various book shelves, and an entire section of bibles available to take. I am aware that this is a new trend in coffee shops and I thought I did my homework. I was afraid that an independent coffee shop/roaster in the south burbs might be too good to be true, and it was. Either I missed all of the code words and hints, or it really is a sneaky trap. My drink was just ok. I got an iced mocha and there was not a discernable mocha nor espresso taste. I felt very uncomfortable and I know that is because of my own issues. The staff was very nice and I could tell that for others, this was a place they liked to be. I just wish that religious coffee shops would stay in religious places, like churches. read more

I love The Edge. I am really happy to see that Crete has a place like this FINALLY. The entire coffee shop was put together as a community effort, and it looks BEAUTIFUL inside. They have only been open about 6 months now, and they have already made such an impact on the town of Crete. They have OPEN MIC NIGHTS every Thursday, and feature local art inside the shop. They are very involved with the community, and it's such a great place to go. I LOVE the atmosphere. The variety of drinks they offer is fantastic! And the staff is amazing. It is the perfect place to go to "chill out" for a while. If you are driving through Crete, you have to make THE EDGE one of your destinations. Sit back in one of the nice comfy chairs, have a cup of their signature blend coffee, and have a nice talk with whoever is nearby. It's really a great place to be. read more

Scoped out this coffee shop out in rural-ish Crete because they are also a church. Or at least a traditional church owns and sponsors this establishment. (I wanted to see how it's done.) It's a nice quiet place to sit & have a cup of coffee with a friend........I had the Mocha Iced coffee & it was just OK for the price I paid. Too much Mocha, not enough coffee. The lunch/food prices seemed a bit inflated too but it is "Crete" after all, so I guess you're paying for the town atmosphere? The religious nature of the shop was a little too in-your-face for my tastes, but it's a very clean cafe that supports local artists and has a very friendly vibe. Staff was very helpful. The muffins were super bland, but the coffee was fine. Some of the iconography and bible verses on the wall were a bit alienating. read more
