This is a restaurants I have been going to since I was young. I finally went there since it has changed to the Eatery. The service was not the best. The food is worth it, the servers and management in particularly are bizarre. Two out of three visits my order has been wrong or I've had a negative interaction. The food comes out hot an fresh which takes a bit of time an honestly wasn't worth getting my correct order and making a fuss about since I had waited long enough. It's all been decent. I think the staff is obviously under a lot of stress and seem to be rushing and maybe serving too many tables which lead to mistakes made. I will probably make a fuss next time because honestly love the maxed out potatoes and getting them with gravy on them was not appetizing and was a waste that just stayed on my plate. More so paying 4$ for a salad bar you visit once that claims it has 50 different items and CLEARLY counting the dressings is not worth the time of day. You need to honestly make your staff love their jobs an not belittle them an tell them they can only bring one syrup to the table ect nonesense I've over heard. You also would have better luck if you assigned maybe the manager who's constantly walking around to carry some pitchers and offer refills, Usually my waitresses have seeming been too busy for refills till close to the end of our meals. They're some of the fastest waitresses I've seen and look like they're completely being worked to death by this place, seriously. Instead of just coaching them, help them out when they're drowning in diners. Reason #1 I didn't complain to management because it was clearly an understaffing issue rather than a poor waitress issue when it came to my waitress messing up and the manager seemed to buzz around the same few tables. I loved this place when it was Howards and I was a little weary of what the changes were going to be. I loved it! I really like that they are not cash only anymore! :) Love the inside the food was great the only thing I did not like, and the reason my grandma wont go there :( -- Is the ordering process. But the last time I went there I was informed you don't have order right away. We grabbed a menu and sat at a table and decided what we wanted and then went back to order. I didn't feel so rushed. Went there for first time on a Sunday morning. Steady but no wait. Very clean, nice atmosphere and excellent service. I had the chicken supreme omelet and upgraded to the huge, homemade cinnamon roll! The frosting was cream-cheesy and extra buttery, I want a bowl of it! Omelet was excellent, loved the parm cream sauce! My mom had the mile high and dad one of the scramble bowls, both looked good. They even had gluten free toast! I went back to the Eatery again. The last time I was at the eatery was when they first opened. I like the change they made. They have wait staff that wait on you. When they first opened I had to order at front counter and than our food would be brought to the table. The food was very good. So was the Malt. They also serve alcohol . This is outwardly a pretty traditional American restaurant. The menu is extensive with the usual American dishes that are well prepared. What sets it apart is the service in our view. Very friendly and well trained and supervised staff. I ordered the ribs with the sauce on the side one evening and after a reasonable time my wife's meal arrived, and mine too but no ribs. Our waitress apologized and said the kitchen inadvertently put the sauce on the ribs, said it would only take a minute to bring the correct meal, and offered me a plate for a free trip to the salad bar. Accidents will happen but they are always looking out for the customer and very attentive. Like many restaurants it can get noisy when there is a crowd. The booths are really soft, almost too much so in some places. read more

The menu is very confusing and hard to read so when we got the bill we had a lot of questions about how the charged us. Plus there's too much variety in the amount and ethnicity in the food. Pick a kind of food wether it be Italian, Asian, or American just pick one and stick with it! The wait time for food was Very Slow and it wasn't very busy either!!! Food was pretty good, I was a little disappointed my son wanted sausage with his pancake instead of bacon and the waiter made it seem like a hassle then told me he would have to charge me more for the change, then his syrup was spilled and I think we sat and waited 5 minutes before someone came by to help us and get a new cup of syrup which he was then told this is the last one you get so don't spill it. Then I feel like I sat with an empty coffee cup for a good 5 minutes before o had to ask for a refill. We have eaten here several times over the past six months and the service is always exceptional. They definitely excel in this area. They also seem to genuinely appreciate our business as well which I always appreciate. My favorite are the burgers and the Patty melt. The burgers are large and I always think there is no way I'm going to be able to finish it, but it's usually so good I find a way to eat the entire burger. The onion rings are amazing and we rarely leave without having a slice of homemade pies. Though I've never tried them, my 16 year-old son loves the ribs and he chooses them nearly every time. read more

I've tried this place twice now and it's not good. The burger I had tasted like it was once frozen and the second time I had the breakfast buffet and my milk glass was dirty and I found what looked like a pubic hair in my eggs. Plus drinks are not include. So my breakfast that morning with coffee and one glass of milk was 15 something! I won't be back. read more

The eatery is one of those rare experiences that you really appreciate. This is a family-style restaurant that operates at a very high level of efficiency and quality. Everything we have eaten has been first class, the price has been right, and the service has been very good to excellent. My wife recommended The Eatery for lunch because she loves their Pulled Pork Sandwich. This was my first visit. We were greeted immediately by a gentleman with a great sense of humor and it was obvious he enjoyed what he was doing. We were seated by a very courteous and knowledgeable waitress who served our initial water with requested lemon almost immediately. She offered some brief recommendations to me as a first timer which I took her up on. My wife had the Pulled Pork. Great service and very personable. I had the Salmon Burger-center cut Atlantic Salmon, bacon lettuce, tomato with a mustard dill aioli. The bun was very fresh and held the sandwich together nicely. A must for this type of sandwich. The french fries were house made I believe because they were the best I have had in my 9 years living in Lincoln. The menu is broad enough for any meal, top notch salad bar, limited but good wine, beer and cocktail selection but enough Atmosphere is open, clean and holds the chatter to where your table or booth can carry on a conversation as well. My son and I ate here tonight. You walk in and have to pick up a menu and order and pay. I asked for a larger glass for water and was told someone would be around with a pitcher to refill my small glass. Noone came and I had to get up 4 more times to get more water. My son ordered a cheeseburger and when he took his first bite he had an awful look on his face. He did not eat the burger and told me it tasted like cleaning solution. I noticed two other people had the burgers and they too left without eating them. A coincidence I do not believe so. My supper was fair. Great mashed potatoes. I have eaten at the Eatery four or five time, we love it there, you have the option of ordering at the front counter or taking a seat and looking over the menue and ordering from your table. The food has always been fresh and delicious. We love the atomosphere especially in the evening. It is a quiet and relaxing place to get dinner and a relaxing place to have conversation. The managers and staff are outstanding and are dedicated to making sure you are happy before you leave. It is one our favorite place, our teen age sons as well. Good Job Eatery!! read more

This place sucks. The food is bland. Nothing like it was when it was howards pantry. The place is very clean and is the only reason i gave it 2 stars. I had breakfast one morning and the omlet was very dry. I tried the cheeseburger and it was over cooked and bland. Im pretty sure howards son runs it now. This place was awesome. Service top notch. Empty plates were removed from the table in record time, and my glass of water never stayed empty for more than a minute. The friendly staff smiled at me every time they walked past our table. I came here for the first time today with my parents. The salad bar is fantastic and has tons of options. The Pantry food was much better. The food is mediocre, but the prices are ridiculously high for mediocre food. Was over $40 for chicken fried steak, bacon cheeseburger, grilled cheese sandwich for our 3 yr old, and 3 drinks. The cashier kept messing up the prices, and the one trip salad bar is anywhere from $3.99-$5.99. We found this pricey, especially the kids menu. Can go to Village Inn, Perkins, Red Robin, etc for cheaper kids meals, and free refills of juice for the kids. Will definitely not be going back until they lower the prices or increase their portion sizes. Also not a fan of the mini-sized plates. read more

HORRIBLE! Both in service and in food. My wife and I will usually give restaurants a second chance but not this time. Here is a quick breakdown... During our stay, 5 tables were currently occupied and 2 others filled during Wife and I ordered waters: mine ad orange colored flakes floating in it - server took care of it Appetizer: $8 cheese sticks - 6 cheesesticks that had good flavor and an over thick and acidic marinara sauce that was not good. I repeat $8 for 6 sticks...FAIL Wife: Belgium Waffle $6.50 (came with bananas and pecans) A server tried to first deliver it to another table (that had already been served food a while earlier) before our server took it and brought it to my wife. The presentation was nice with the banana slices around the waffle rim and the pecans scattered about its surface. It was lukewarm, no butter came with it and the syrup was served cold in a cold metal ramekin. FAIL Me: Rise and shine $8 (eggs, hashbrowns, country steak and pancakes) Eggs: scrambled and undercooked. I stabbed it with a fork and yolk ran across the plate. I placed the steak on top of them to finish cooking the eggs. Steak: Very tender on the inside and golden crispy on the outside. Tasty. The country gravy was generic and neither added or detracted from the steak. Hashbrowns: they are hashbrowns...cooked nicely Pancakes: This is funny because they didn't even arrive until I had already finished the first three items. I estimate it took 15 minutes with conversation for me to eat my eggs, steak and potatoes. In that time the cook was unable to prepare and serve 2 small pancakes. I am guessing the fact our server spent a good portion of his time on the other side of the restaurant talking with another bored server didn't help at all. When they arrived they were very small, loaded with way too much butter and too much syrup. However, the syrup was at least warm. FAIL $25 and tip for poor service and poor quality food. (undercooked eggs are dangerous to certain age groups as well). To have mass failure from the front and back of the house is too much. Nothing there is worth the price paid and the level of service was below subpar. FAIL read more

We had never been to the Eatery before so decided to try it out nice looking place. I ordered Beliguim Waffle I was very disappointed it was Bananna Pecan when I got my food there was like 6 little pieces of bannana and a couple of spoons full of pecans and a little tiny teaspoon of whipped cream. I had to ask for syrup and they brought a little tiny cup of it. I had to ask twice more for syrup and told the waitress that is was very dry guess they were used to it cause she didn't even blink a eye or say sorry. Oh my Gosh, this place really suck... I took my wife and 2 kids out to eat, thinking that we was going to eat a great meal, the chilli fries was so cold that I didn't even touch them after the first 2 bites. My wife meal was cold and she says that the chicken was not done. My son mac and cheese was served to him cold and my daughter threw up outside. The servers didn't even smile, they didn't ask us if we needed refills. I swear this place sucks. I can't believe the food was that bad and the people were that rude. I would ask for my money back. We started with the nachos, which were very good. Had beer and tap water but I couldn't drink the tap water because it had an odd taste so I ordered diet pepsi. My husband had the turkey club and fries which were good. I had the dinner and my two choices were fried shrimp and ribs, which came with onion rings, corn on the cob, slaw. Everything on the plate was delicious but only luke warm, at most (except the ribs which were very warm). Nothing was hot. But it all tasted very good. We shared the raspberry cake for dessert. It was supposed to have cream cheese frosting but the frosting definitely had NO cream cheese in it! It was just powder sugar frosting. The cake wasn't very good. Seems to be a very good restaurant but you just have to be careful what you order. I ate at The Eatery before attending a play on Saturday night. You can either walk in, look at the menu in the entry way or inside the main doors and order, or you can take the menu to your seat, look it over, then go back to the counter and order. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with the tomato basil soup and a pineapple/coconut "adult" shake. LOVED IT ALL! The grilled cheese was actually grilled with shredded parmesan cheese on the outside of each slice of bread and I don't even like tomato soup, but this tomato basil soup was THE BOMB! I received my order at my table within 5 minutes of ordering. I loved that I did not have to wait for a waitress to come and take my order. Within minutes of receiving my order, Bryan, who took my order at the counter came over to make sure my order was correct and noticed that I only got a cup of soup when I had ordered a bowl. The cup of soup was in a bowl so I had not even noticed. He brought me out a bowl in addition to my cup so I ate the cup in the restaurant and brought the bowl home. The next day, I ate the bowl of tomato soup cold and it may have even been better than when I ate it hot the night before. I will definitely be eating at The Eatery again the next time I am in Lincoln. The Eatery is No Fuss Fast! read more

My sister & I had lunch here. Highly doubtful we'll be back. My meal was really good. However, she had a burger and it was spoiled meat. When the manager came to our table with her new entre (cheese frenchie) he told us "there's no way that meat is spoiled." It was indeed spoiled. We both tried it and it was rotten. He tried to tell us it was the seasoning and if you're not used to it, it can be a little different. Nah, I know rotten meat when I taste it. So they brought her a cheese frenchie and took the burger off of her ticket, but made her PAY for the cheese frenchie. Wow. I work in the restaurant industry, not IN a restaurant, but still very much IN the industry. There's no way on earth any of our restaurant employees or managers would ever do this to a guest. Apologize up and down, whether you believed it was rotten meat or not, get them something new & remove their meal from their ticket. Period. You don't ever tell a guest that they're wrong or argue with them. I understand he probably didn't want us thinking he ran a restaurant that would ever serve rotten meat...but it happens. It's the nature of the beast. But you still don't treat your guests like that. Not a good experience. Wont go back. read more
