What an amazing adventure at this hotel. Such history and beauty. The lobby is gorgeous with details of stain glass and columns with a beautiful staircase. There is a working safety deposit box vault in the lobby that you can take a gander. The bar is dark and moody with good drinks. Unfortunately I didn't experience the cafe bakery but it looked delicious. The rooms are pretty spacious for such an old hotel. The valet and bell staff are exceptional, Rachel and Mike were a delight and most helpful and friendly. We will certainly stay again! Our rooms were gorgeous. Immaculate and comfortable--what more can you ask for? My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Having to leave the following morning was depressing! Had a lovely time at Driskill! Stayed here for 3 nights and everything from the rooms to the room service was great! I did feel the room was smaller in comparison with other 4 star hotels, but you get to choose from a number of different rooms/suites on their website. 1886 is a super nice cafe serving breakfast and brunch. The food here is amazing, they serve everything from breakfast croissants to eggs and ham. Highly recommend Driskill if you are looking a hotel that is touristy, antiquated (partly) and with great vibes. read more

Very disappointed in our stay at the Driskill. The staff was not friendly. Stating good morning and getting nothing back was shocking. We asked the concierge for recommendations for places to go for the day. They recommended the Dirty Six. When I asked for additional recommendations, the person stated we would fit in on the Dirty Six since we had so many drinks a few nights before. The Dirty Six is right outside the doors of the Driskill. It has A LOT of homeless people. We even had the pleasure of dodging human feces a few times to get out for the day. On a positive note, if you don't want to leave the hotel, the restaurant was amazing and the beds are comfortable. read more

This historical hotel is very cool, but we felt the additional fees tacked on at check in were extreme. We stayed for 3 nights and were charged an additional $180 at check in. They provided a list of "inclusions" we would receive from these fees, but they were mostly bogus (ie, beer at check in that we didn't get, discounts that didn't work, paddle boards to use in a polluted lake, etc.). Pro tip: First and foremost if you're going to book the school to check via Priceline, or hot wire, I was able to book this hotel for $97. That is a steal at that price. Keep in mind parking is $45 but anywhere in downtown you're going to pay a premium for parking so with all that being said $97 is a hell of a deal. Hot wire for the win. I had no idea this is is the second oldest hotel in texas. 1886 and supposedly it's haunted. I'll be enough one of my light bulbs in the restroom was flickering. Then it stopped. Hotel: at first for the price I thought the petite queen bed was quite small and not that comfy but it was OK it was pretty comfy after all. I guess Ive judge the book by its cover so the bed was pretty comfortable after all. I really like the bar area. They have done a great job keeping this hotel original. One thing I really like as well as the large pillars when you walk in. They used to really build with pride. The architecture here is simply amazing. We had a few drinks at the bar area and we really enjoyed our time there. The service was great and the drinks were strong. I would definitely stay here again. Very unique hotel stay in experience. You just feel like you're in another time. They have done a great job keeping this hotel restored and operating. I would like to come back and try the food next time. You will never understand how beautiful this hotel is until you step foot inside of it. My words will never do it justice. First, let me mention, this hotel was built in the late 1800s. The outside looks exactly the same as it did when it was built, that to me was amazing. You walk in and the ceilings are the first thing you notice, or maybe it's the scent that smells like 'money.' It's intoxicating. I also forgot to mention that valet is super super nice and super quick. Checked in, we received two Lonestar beers (nice, but I'm not that much of a Texan, even as a native) on the room keys to the most gorgeous room. You go up the elevator which is divine by itself, the three textures on the walls are just perfection. You step out of the elevator into what looks like a portrait gallery just paintings all the way down the hallways. Gorgeous. You got into the room on the ceilings are so high, the windows are almost floor to ceiling. The bed is so soft, the pillows are so soft, the bathroom is immaculate. I could not have asked for a more beautiful room. I laid down on the bed and I almost fell asleep immediately. This room and hotel are an absolute dream. I highly recommend. Go to the bar area, it is so stunning it will take your breath away. The whole hotel will take your breath away. You can thank me later. read more

This is definitely a luxurious hotel. It's the kind of place that reminds you of an earlier time. You are seated in the heart of Austin just minutes from the gorgeous state capital and completely surrounded by a hustle and bustle of old and new tall buildings, and older quaint stores and shops that you definitely want to check out. Seated on Sixth Street is a busy place with bars and tattoo shops and music all around. So you will never find a place where conducive to having an extensive night life. Even the well-known elephant room, which is an underground jazz club and bar, is right around the corner. The hotel itself is polished and beautifully built from the exterior to the interior. The inside has a particular sense that is loved and well cared for, but if you have any reservations about spirits, and I don't mean the alcoholic kind, then you may want to reconsider staying here. If you are here for the alcoholic spirits, good for you! Plenty to be had, but get ready to break out your pocket book. Because nothing in this hotel is what I would consider affordable by average standardsl. read more

There isn't a way to write this without sounding ridiculous. I'll preface with that much. But it's still a complaint and one that affected me greatly, so I'm bringing it up. But first, to start, I'm not throwing shade at the Driskill. It's one of my favorite hotels in the US. I stay here every Halloween with my dog. They're very accommodating to him. We've never had an issue, and I look forward to our stays every year. It's become a tradition to take our (non-professional) Halloween photos in the gorgeous lobby. Pictures that friends and family look forward to every year, as well. Now here's my qualm. I entirely understand why a hotel would opt to exclude cats from hotel rooms. They come with a whole set of liabilities that dogs don't. Fair. I have a leash trained cat who is more dog that cat, and I was looking forward to taking those pictures in the lobby and then taking her home for the night. Out of curiosity, I stopped by the front desk to ask if the hotel was cat friendly, secretly hoping an in person answer would be different. Not only did I get the answer I assumed would be the case, no, but I was told cats can't even be in the lobby? To what end? What could a cat or any contained animal do in a lobby? I had her outfit ready to go and had been dreaming of those photos for months. To boot, the front desk staffer was very condescending about it, scoffing at me with a, "Mam, I'm /TRYING/ to be nice," with the implication I was irritating him with my questions. I just wanted clarity. I left feeling quite put down and walked away from a very foreign reaction to a question by the staff. I've never had anything but kindness up until that point. So cats are discriminated against. Staff will be rude about it, or at least were to me. It was an experience I hope I never have to go through again, for certain. read more

Fun, old school hotel with a great location. Very friendly staff and the valet service was particularly good. The bar is a very nice and they do a good job with their cocktails. One of my wife's favorite breakfasts in Austin is there...avocado toast with eggs on top. If you are downtown, it is hard to beat the location, the amenities, and the general vibe of the hotel. We were expecting so much more. The lobby and mezzanine look nice but even with that they seem to be using them as storage. We didn't know they don't have any room service right now, housekeeping knew we were trying to leave and still wanted to clean the room, instead of going across the hall first. And on our floor, they put the security door lock out so all morning you hear doors bouncing off the security lock. Our room is o.k., but you can feel its age and not in a good way, in more of a lipstick on a pig way. The lobby is so gorgeous, don't expect the same from the room. Our pillows have to be from 1962. Maybe it'll get better through our stay and I'll update this, but I doubt it. read more

We stayed here over Valentine's Day Weekend. The aesthetics are nice and the hotel does have a rich history. While it is on the pricey side for over $350 per night, we expected a higher level of service. Upon checking in we were told that we were eligible for an upgrade at $15 per night. The agent informed us that the room would be larger and the view would be better. We of course agreed. Upon Check-in we found that while the room was larger, the view was of the hotel's noisy HVAC units. There was also a screaming toddler in the room next to us, which ruined the experience. Screams could be heard throughout the day, and into the middle of the night. What was most concerning was the cleanliness of the room. On our second day we found that the sheets we had been sleeping on were stained with brown/red streaks of either blood or rust. Hopefully it was the latter. Upon checkout we voiced these concerns to the front desk. Their solution was to waive the $15 for the supposed room upgrade. As a frequent traveler, this is not the level of experience that we expected from a Hyatt Hotel. read more

We had our wedding at The Driskill last night, and we could not be happier! To start, the space is gorgeous. Our ceremony was in the Crystal Room, and reception in the Victorian Room. Both were perfect. The Driskill accommodated all of our vendors, and they were so kind to our guests. Paige & Lily supported us throughout the planning process, held a tasting, secured us a prep space, and helped us make good decisions for ourselves and for our guests. The service we received on the big day was impeccable. The staff was thoughtful, kind, and made us feel so welcome and special. We received so many compliments from our guests about the food, the bar, the service, and the lovely space. Very historic hotel located in downtown Austin. Once you walk in you feel the history with the marble floors, columns and high ceilings. Lobby is so ornate and gorgeous. With history comes stories of being haunted. I didn't experience any ghosts or spirits but I'm sure the curiosity brings more guests and visits back to the hotel. Elevators are small and slow, again to be expected with an older building. As you exit the elevator the halls are lined with beautiful artwork. This is a very nice touch to an already beautiful hotel. As expected the rooms are rather small but are very cozy with some but not many modern upgrades. Older furniture with USB ports, recess lighting by the bed. Bed is super comfy, love the high ceilings and ceiling fan. Although bathroom was tiny, there was still adequate counter space and was equipped with all the amenities. Would have loved a full length mirror but made do. Great lighting in the bathroom which is a must for a woman to do makeup. Friendly staff and great location with so many restaurants and bars within walking distance. read more

I never had any issues in my room, so didn't need them to address anything like that but just everyone at check in to the bar to the bell hop was very friendly. Beautiful and very historic hotel however I had a very negative encounter with an individual named "Jeff". He ran the operations side of the hotel. I asked him where the hotel's second floor is and he asked as if I was not part of the hotel and repeatedly asked for my hotel reservation/key. I found it disrespectful and racist as he wanted to know if I had an actual "key" to the hotel even though I had been there all weekend since Thursday afternoon for a conference. This led to a prominent negative connotation of the service provided by the hotel. I highly urge you to run a prominent check on the ethics of the hotel. I'm a well-distanced traveler (50+ countries) but never experienced customer service like this. I hope no one ever experienced very low disrespect and governance from Jeff who disrespected me, was rude, and lacked social conduct of communication with me. read more

The most beautiful boutique hotel I have been to in a long time. I came here on a recommendation from the Austin Visitor's Center and I am so glad I did. The design was stunning. I had the time of my life exploring, since there was no one and everything was completely empty. I later found out that the hotel is considered one of the most haunted hotels in Texas! I even took a picture on the staircase that is supposedly super haunted. I didn't feel any creepy spirit vibes unfortunately, and they're sad stories but definitely interesting history to look into before you go! read more

I hate the $60 per night valet fee. The lobby is lovely. The bar is comfortable. The hotel hallways are decorated with an eclectic assortment of paintings in gilt frames. There are some nice little bookshelves here and there with a decent collection of hardcovers. I suppose you are welcome to borrow them if you are in need of reading material. I love that they offer you a Lone Star beer when you check in! The location couldn't be better. You are near the Congress Bridge bats, the State Capitol building, and the 6th Street nightlife. This place is absolutely AMAZING! My fiancé and I stayed here Sept 10 and I would make a special trip just to stay here again. From the moment we drove up to the time we drove away, nothing but VIP First class treatment. The Valet service was fantastic....they immediately ran out to the car opened doors and grabbed the bags. Then we walked inside to this Gorgeous Lobby where we met Jake. This guy, what an amazing Human! He was helping some "difficult " guests that were giving him a very hard time, but he handled it with tact. Then, when it was our turn to check in, he took a deep breath and did a complete reset without missing a beat. Jake helped us find some local haunts to checkout for drinks and dinner, then went above and beyond when assisting us with reservations for an outstanding Speakeasy. Everything Jake suggested was spot on, as well as his helpfulness and personality. Got a deluxe king suite with city view. The room is pretty small. It is not worth the price you pay. Everything is pretty old and needs some extra cleaning and updating. The comforter was so old and lumpy. The bathroom definitely needs more cleaning and attention. You get two complimentary water bottles. read more

Immaculate. We stayed in their standard king bed room and it was spacious and clean! The attention to details in the decor was superb. Customized cabinetry, room curtains, shower curtains all the way to the carpet had some sign or symbol of the hotel with the letter D or hotel diagram. Bed was a bit firm for my liking albeit comfortable. I was a little excited and spooked at the same time after reading the hotel may be haunted. I'll report no supernatural encounters. We came to what appears to be the slow season in which I enjoyed because it felt like an intimate experience for us. We toured the bar area, balconies and the mezzanine with no one near us. The room hallways were adorn with beautiful pictures set in grand frames. It was like a mini-museum walking the halls. We had a whiskey drink at the beautifully decorated bar area and had pleasant conversations with our bartender, Andrew. For breakfast we ate at the hotel cafe. Food was delicious and service was great! Definitely recommend staying at the hotel if visiting Austin. read more

We spent a few night's on Austin's beautiful historic Grande Dame, The Driskill Hotel. The historic marker states it was built in 1886 and there were three arched entrances- and one was the "ladies' entrance" so they could go straight up to their rooms without their dainty ears hearing the men talk and smell cigar smoke. There are lots of legends about the friendly neighborhood ghosts roaming specific areas, but we dod not encounter any. Our room 701 is lovely- and definitely not haunted! We stayed on the 7th floor on the tower side of the hotel in a very large "not-quite-a-suite" room, where we could spread out a bit. We spent some time at the bar, which has nightly live music (the musician we heard was very talented). we also took the history tour with fun, story-telling Audrey who let us peek into beautiful spaces linked with royalty and LBJ, who had a room/ office in the hotel. Overall, we had a nice stay. Great location, despite being on dirty 6th - we couldn't hear a thing, so the windows were definitely affective! All of the food we had in the hotel, both room service, tavern food and the Afternoon tea (read my review about that!) at the hotel's 1886 Café were all fantastic. We discovered a steam room in the men's and women's locker room of the fitness center, so we clocked some time there as the ice storm was forcing us indoors. I love historic hotels and the Driskill is rich in history, ghost stories, and beautiful architecture. Highly recommend! read more

Aside from being a historic hotel and located in a the heart of downtown, the Driskill does not have much to be desired. The hotel has nice decor but is old. The rooms were small and average. Our room faced the building and so there was no sunlight. Overall, I do not think the rooms at the Driskill are over-priced. We spent the remainder of our trip at the Fairmont and I enjoyed it so much more. The room was modern and very spacious with a lot of sunlight. I also participated in the Afternoon tea service at the Driskill. I was really looking forward to it because I heard good reviews. But the food was mediocre. The scones were dry. The bread for the sandwiches were very dry as well. The staff did not refill our tea in a timely manner. In fact, we never received the 3rd tea that goes with the dessert course. This hotel is such a treasure in Austin . Took my granddaughters for an overnight stay for one on one time . Rooms are very comfortable we stayed in room 505 in the double queen vintage room . Robes provider ,room was so clean and the temp control works divine .. I love cold and it definitely can stay cold . We had so much fun . They enjoyed going thru hotel w their 'ghost meter' and looking at this beautiful hotel . Cookies and milk after dinner and room service Texas waffles ( kids menu ) was perfect . They gave us a late noon check out and we enjoyed everything immensely. Only negative and has nothing to do w hotel is my granddaughters and I walked two blocks to dinner and were harassed by the drunk homeless or street people .
