We recently stayed at the Hyatt Driskill hotel for two nights, in Austin Texas. I have been a Hyatt member for over 20 years, and never been more disappointed. I am going to list all of the challenges we faced at you location. On arrival, there was no where to pull in to unload our suitcases. We had to park two blocks away and walk. We then had to drag our suitcases up two flights of stairs to get to the elevator. Ridiculous. Upon entering the room, we recognized a very wet/musty smell. I noticed that the air conditioner return vent were covered in dust, and had black areas on it. This was very possibly mold. I have asthma, and had a difficult time breathing in this room. I would not be surprised if there was mold somewhere in the room. There was no ice bucket. I had to go to the front check -in desk, who didn't have one as well, so I walked with him to the bar. There was no hand soap in the bathroom with the tub/shower. I pulled down the covers and there was blood on the sheet! The comforter had ink all over it! I've never been more disgusted. My wife wanted to leave Immediately. I reported this to the front desk. They said they would make a note to have all the bedding changed immediately. When we returned from our day exploring Austin at 8PM, we entered the room, and I checked the bed. It had been made up. However, the bed was made but the blood was still there. I was very DISAPPOINTED. The woman at the check-in apologized and said she would send housekeeping right away. She gave me a $30 house credit. What an insult after being charged $350 a night. We couldn't eve change rooms. About 30 minutes later housekeeping showed up and changed the bedding. She was noticeably angry. The refrigerator didn't work. The room was not clean. UPDATE. the supervisor for housekeeping finally responded after I wrote this review. I was compensated one nights stay. I guess the location manager couldn't be bothered to respond, which is clearly not the Hyatt way. It was evident to both of us that the photos posted on the Hyatt site were deceptive and misleading, and the room we stayed in was not up to our Hyatt expectations. (BACK STORY) It was my first time in Austin so I had to try so many other food spots, but before I left I wanted to see what I kept hearing about at the Driskill. Now I went for them famous brunch BUT it was before my flight so I didn't get the Texas shaped waffles and chicken meal. I decided to go for a very RANDOM but great option, LOX :)! (ACTUAL REVIEW) The lox were great, the salmon slices were a bit small but they were fresh! Overall delicious meal and great ambiance. The Driskill used to be a classy hotel. But "class" is not the word that comes to mind in the way they treated me when I tried to book online as a Christmas gift for my wife. My decision to turn to The Driskill for a good time, instead became an hours-long nightmare. I was routed to a third-party business partnership that botched the reservation, never sent me a confirmation email and never sent an itinerary number. When I tried to find my reservation, both the hotel and its business partner said they couldn't help because I didn't have the above information that they failed to give me. However, they certainly knew enough about my reservation to quickly take money out of my credit card account -- at the same time they said they couldn't help me with anything else. It took hours before I was able to cancel everything. When I asked a senior manager at the hotel whether she could understand my frustration, she said she could only understand that the hotel did not directly book the room. She said the hotel considers no accountability for what their partnering company does. There was no effort to apologize. No class. I'd recommend finding a hotel that treats their guests, and their prospective guests, better. read more

An amazing stay in Austin at the Driskill! The hotel is gorgeous and has a lot of character. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are spacious and updated. The valet staff sometimes a little short staffed when there is a wedding/event going on at the same time we want to retrieve car- but it was not excessive. Had breakfast at the 1886 cafe (recommend going early 7-9:30a before the crowds) Everything we had was delicious! Also visited the Driskill Bar for late evening cocktails and snacks. Again all the food was tasty & hit the spot. Steps away from the famous 6th street nite life - we are not club goers but still interesting to walk around for a bit. If you love the live music scene this is the pace for you. Within walking distance many great restaurants. Will definitely stay here if we return to Austin. read more

I love how clean the rooms are and the general relaxing/cozy feel of the hotel. We had a really nice stay in January. We checked in the middle of the week and it was fast and efficient. The lobby was decorated so lovely from the holidays. The Christmas tree was right in the middle of the lobby. It was so special. The valet service was about $35 per night. We only stayed one night so we used the valet service. We were in and out of our room so much so they kept our car outside instead of having to wait for our car to be brought to the front. The hotel room was gorgeous! This hotel is original and renovated. It is so classy and rich. The sheets were at least 1000 count. The bed was comfortable and plenty of pillows. It was cold so there was an extra blanket in the closet. I love the little thoughtful gestures. The room had a coffee machine and supplies. The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels. Walk in shower with glass door. The history of the hotel was that it is haunted. We didn't have any ghost experience but it was fun ghost hunting for a bit. We stayed on the fourth floor and honestly it was not noisy. I always worry about staying in the city and hearing street noise but that was not the case here. The bar was closed during the week but I am sure that was due to the Covid pandemic. Otherwise we would've loved to have checked it out. It's walking distance to restaurants and a few bars so you really don't need to bring your car out from valet. Instead walk everywhere or just take Uber. It's a lovely place to stay in Austin. We really loved this hotel. It was so cool to stay in such an old historic place that was actually kept up and felt comfortable. I've stayed in a lot of older hotels that are just not maintained, but that was not the case here. It is obvious people enjoy staying here and just coming ti eat ir grt drinks. The building is gorgeous and it was fun to just wander around. We also ate at the bakery and bar downstairs (different review for those) which we really never do in a big city because there are so many other places to go. We would 10 our if 10 recommend staying here. The location is perfect for getting wild on 6th street, although we didn't, or for touring the city on foot, which we did! The only Teo downfalls of this hotel are 1. No poop 2. It's haunted, which may make or break your stay. The center of Austin hospitality starts here as it is Austin's oldest operating hotel. Located right on 6th Street in the middle of downtown this place has a lot of character. You can easily imagine yourself arriving on horseback to check in. The service is extravagant and will assist you with all your needs. I have spent a lot of time throughout the years hanging out here. Noticed it is operated by Hyatt so now you can get points to stay here. I had a brief tour of the lobby on its history and learned when it was build it had some businesses on the first floor like a bank. I walked into the old safe vault and been renovated as a private work area and lock boxes. It was very interesting. During Christmas this a must to visit where they decorate it very nicely and have a tree lighting ceremony. If you drive here then recommend parking valet where not sure where the parking garage is since was built before automobiles. The 1886 Cafe & Bakery is really good and nice place to hangout. The bar is upstairs and really old school luxurious with lots of dark wood. The selections of liquors are higher quality than other hotels. It's a very historic hotel and worth visiting. read more

Amazing stay at the Driskill, we are celebrating our anniversary and came to stay in this historic hotel. We had a great room with a balcony overlooking the city. The staff is extremely helpful and very gracious. Stephanie ensure our stay was top notch and sent us a bottle of wine. If you want a top hotel with great service even in a pandemic this is where you should stay. We are looking forward to returning and really seeing all they have to offer after the crisis. We enjoyed the high tea at the Driskill. The experience was lovely. The staff was lovely. The venue is lovely. However, for the exorbitant price, I would've expected earl grey tea with cream not milk and cucumber sandwiches. The lack of these was a disappointment. They are traditional and to be expected. Rather than a Chocolate scone, a plain scone would've been preferred. The entire purpose of the lemon curd in the jam is to accentuate the scone, the Chocolate scone was dry and overpowering for the tea it did not serve the purpose. The mushroom quiche was tasteless but pretty. The crème brûlée was adorable, looking, but soupy and excessive sugar to the custard ratio leaving it unappetizing. The majority of our party enjoyed the salmon puffs. The muffaletta sandwich was delicious, in some cases the bread was too thick but for those of us that did not have that issue it was fantastic. The deviled eggs although fine, do not pair with tea. In fact, this would be the perfect item to substitute for the missing cucumber sandwiches. This is my feedback on the items I would recommend solving for. But every other item was exquisite. So will I come back? Probably. This hotel is so beautiful! I felt like I was on the Titanic...at least what I envision it to look like. We stayed because we got a great deal and it was in a central location in Austin. The 4 stars was simply due to the size of the room and the room/hotel amenities. The room had that vintage feel (which we liked) but it had a small fridge completed filled with chargeable minibar beverages. There was absolutely no room to put my own water bottle. Their "fitness center" was lack lust with equipment I would never use. But, I would probably stay there again if it was for just a couple nights (as we did). read more

Don't bother staying here unless you are part of a wedding party! There was a wedding during our two night stay and we were in the line of fire as our room was almost directly above the ballroom. No offer to move us as we were told the hotel was full. No offer to compensate us, just an apology after the fact that management should have been prepared and warned guests and will try and find out what happened so it does not happened again. How does this help us? We were there celebrating my wife's birthday weekend and the band played until 1am!!!!! I am a long time Hyatt member and have never experienced this kind of treatment in any of their other properties. Stopped in for cocktails and a small plate. What a beautiful old building with so many flashy and nostalgic things to look at. Took a walk thru the lobby and up to the bar. There was live music from a fun two-piece band. Enjoyed the espresso martini and old fashioned with Woodford Reserve and then we moved onto The Batini, the official drink of Austin and an Austin amber beer. The Driiskill is an impressive hotel with the stories about the president LBJ and all. The hotel was built on 1886. Don't remember which side we went in, the side with doorman and bell staffs, our taxi dropped us there. My son who'd stayed here before told us, the hotel looked like Gone with the Wind era style. It was just like that. Actually the room itself was pretty ok. Bathroom was small. Bed was good, other stuffs in the room were all ok. The most impressive thing of the Driskill was the lobby! The Landmark Suite is spacious, clean, and in the Texas summer heat, has excellent air conditioning. The bathroom is small compared to the overall size of the suite. Eric the front desk manager refused to take my AAA card without a physical card. I explained we booked this o line but he refused to accept this and proceeded to explain in a rude way this is our policy. I have no problem with policy except when I self check in I don't need to show my AAA card so why is he busting my balls. The lady that checked us in was very friendly and helpful and when asked about a late checkout she set our time back to 1pm. Excellent customer service. Beautiful historic hotel. Very ornate and full of history. Elevators are old and slow & if your room is in the towers, then you have to take two separate elevator banks to go to the higher floors. Bed was comfortable, shower pressure was perfect, AC in room wasn't noisy, food was good (in restaurants and during our conference). I enjoyed the live band every night in the Driskill bar. Hotel was in a central location to South Congress, downtown area and restaurants/shops/landmarks. I enjoyed my stay! read more

One of the most haunted hotels in America? I dare say that it's likely true! And also one of the most beautiful hotels that combines historic charm with exquisitely appointed details to successfully transport you back to the early 1900s the minute you wall through those guilded stained glass doors. I had the pleasure of staying here on a business trip and enjoyed every minute. If you visit Austin, you must make time to at least visit this magnificent structure if not spend the night. Just arrived and terribly frustrated and disappointed. We came seeking holiday festivity, only to learn every bit of decor and holiday cheer had been stripped from the hotel already, leaving it dull and austere compared to all other accommodations we passed in the city on our drive to the Driskill. Makes for a terrible post-holiday escape. Not to mention the fact that they failed to deliver the type of room we'd initially booked - and then asked for significantly more money for us to secure another suite. And then there's the oh-so-surly bar staff and the valet service that moves at a snails pace. Woof. Will never return to the Driskill - and hope to find other Austin accommodations ASAP that is able to better respect the spirit of the holiday season and the 12 Days of Christmas. He really did such a good job explaining and making the history come to life while making it relatable and fun. The history and architecture is pretty cool but I wouldn't recommend to stay here. Housekeeping and cleanliness is subpar - for example on arrival there was chewed gum stuck to the alarm clock which was pretty gross. The big issue though is noise if they have a private event. There was a private event on Sunday night (we had to be up early Monday) and you could hear the music in our fourth floor room - it felt like room was vibrating from the bass. I was told I should be grateful this event was ending a little after 10pm bc typically their events can go on to 130am and since the hotel is old they can't do anything about the noise and guests will likely hear it. Personally I've stayed at many hotels with events/weddings and not had this noise issue in my room. read more

I loved my night at the Driskill, a genuine piece of Texas history. I booked a Senate room, which I would highly recommend. Mine was on a corner (not sure if they all are), so there was plenty of light and a large sitting area with sofa. The bed was one of the absolute best I've slept on recently. It was enormous and the mattress had just the right combination of firmness and plushiness. The sheets were just the right weight and felt luxurious. I loved the travel-trunk nightstands, a nice bit of design. The bathroom is a little more standard, but there is a sink in the dressing area outside the bathroom in addition to the one in it. It's also nice to have the armoire and dressing area in a little alcove separate from the main room, so you can get your luggage out of sight. The lobby is grand and beautiful and the Driskill Bar is the type of hotel-bar history that's hard to find any more. Low-ceilinged but huge, with a curved bar at one end; appropriately dark and comfortable with a nice happy hour offering. Service was outstanding at check-in and from room service, fine if not quite as polished at the bar. The Firehouse Lounge is just across the street inside a hostel and is definitely worth checking out. read more

Good bar and service at the bar. Good "attempt" at making an old hotel new. The bad.... Dirty bathroom. I literally had to clean. It was gross. Shower curtains rather than glass and they were filthy. This is a remodeled older hotel that looks vintage to the max!! Loved how clean the entire property is. Check in was a breeze and don't do need to take luggage up some stairs but that is what I'm here for. Took the bar route to the elevator and was impressed with the wood decor. The room was lovely, the wife was impressed which made my day. Went down stairs for happy hour, another home run. Made for a great late night! We highly we recommend this hotel. read more
