My family couldn't take her due to the pandemic, her regular groomer going on vacation, and other reasons. She basically had covid hair: long, tangled, and overgrown around her paws. It was very easy to set up an appointment with them by phone call. They'll text you the address, how to get into the house, and will also follow up and remind you of your appointment. You also need to send them records of your dog's vaccinations for the safety of your dog + the other dogs there. Again due to the pandemic, my family also wasn't able to get our dog out to the vet for her annual check-up and booster shots. So I had to reschedule to get her vaccinated first. Jan and her team were so accommodating! They squeezed us in to fit with my schedule. Because Jan's house is actually a house located in a residential area with the business side being accessed by the back gate near the garage, I would recommend parking on the street in front or nearby to get in and out easily. I did see some customers park in her driveway for quick drop offs, but I wanted more time to be able to talk with Jan for our dog's first grooming experience with her. All staff are masked and Jan's house is very clean. I did not feel unsafe at all going into her house. Jan was so gentle and listened to our family's requests about how we would like to get our dog groomed. She explained that she would need to trim shorter due the mats that formed from the longer fur. Mats can be painful to dogs and damaging to their skin, so I appreciated that she kindly explained this to us. Not only that, she explained that some dogs may feel "shy" or "naked" if they haven't been groomed for a long time. Our dog was actually okay and didn't have problems with having less fur, but I still like that she let us know what to possibly expect. They'll give you an estimate of when the dog grooming should be done. They'll also text you about 15-20 minutes before your dog will be ready for pick up. Jan also honestly told us and texted us photo proof that our dog had some preexisting problems: irritated skin and paws and a possible ear infection. She also gave us advice on what to do with family members who love to over feed the dog. Our dog definitely put on weight during the pandemic and my family loves to show love with food. Jan is very knowledgeable and told us what she think might have been the problem with the family dog's paw and skin irritation: my family was not rinsing our dog's fur fully, so leftover shampoo residue ended up irritating her skin. She suggested we mix the dog shampoo with water first to dilute it and then bathe our dog. Not once did I ever feel judged about the state of our dog. Instead she gave us advice in the kindest tone and most caring manner. You could tell that she and her team really love dogs and have tons of experience. I would highly recommend Jan's Dog House!

She was always excited to go when we pulled up and never hesitated when they came to take her from us. We always felt completely comfortable leaving her in their care. A few weeks ago, we dropped her off on a Thursday for a 10-day stay. The following Tuesday, the owner called me to let me know that she was refusing to get up. He asked if she had recently been showing any stubbornness about going outside. He said she had eaten fine that morning but that he had noticed a decline in her energy. He told me he would keep a close eye on her and call me back with an update. About an hour later, he called again and said that her breathing appeared to be labored and that they recommended she be seen by a veterinarian. They offered to transport her to my vet, even though it was a 28-minute drive from Musbro. I called the vet to give them a heads-up, but after hearing about her symptoms, they recommended that she go straight to an emergency hospital. Once again, Musbro offered to take her wherever I wanted. I chose VEG in Nanuet because it was the closest option. The owner's daughter personally drove our girl there, gave me her personal number so I could reach her directly, kept me updated throughout the entire process, and stayed with her the whole time. Unfortunately, an emergency ultrasound revealed that she had a tumor on her spleen that had ruptured. Sadly, something like this can remain hidden until it's too late, and there was nothing that could be done. We were 14 hours away and would not have made it home in time. Knowing that she wasn't alone means more to us than I can put into words. If I couldn't be there with her at the end, I am so grateful that she had a familiar and caring face by her side. We are absolutely heartbroken to have lost our baby, but we are incredibly grateful for the love, compassion, and quick action Musbro showed our family. I am especially thankful that they recognized the change in her behavior so quickly, got her the care she needed, and helped prevent her from suffering any longer than necessary. I have always recommended Musbro to others, and I will continue to do so. I wouldn't think twice about trusting them in the future. They treated our girl like she was their own, and for that, we will always be grateful. If you are looking for someone to care for your dog when you can't be there, I cannot recommend Musbro highly enough. Knowing how they cared for our girl when we were 14 hours away is something our family will never forget.

His most recent grooming was extremely uneven, with visible clipper tracks, areas on his belly cut unevenly, and bald spots behind his front legs. I've included photos so people can judge the grooming for themselves. What was even more disappointing was how our concern was handled. My wife called to calmly explain what had happened, and rather than having a productive conversation, the owner became angry, raised her voice at my wife, said our dog was no longer welcome, and ultimately hung up on her and canceled future appointments. Why not just agree that the ball was dropped and try to make it right with a long time customer? We've spent 1000s at their business in the last 5 years. I brought our dog back in person so the owner could see the haircut. We requested a refund of the $100 grooming charge. After some initial gaslighting, She ultimately refunded 50% or $50, explaining that the bath and nail-cutting services had still been performed. I think it's fair to mention that resolution. We understand that mistakes happen. What ultimately changed our opinion of this business wasn't just a bad haircut for our dog--it was the way a longtime customer's legitimate concern was handled. Unfortunately, after this experience, we won't be returning. The disrespect shown to my wife by the owner, and the way a legitimate concern about poor service was handled, is completely unacceptable and unbecoming of a customer-facing business owner.
