**A Wonderful Experience at Bihari Kennel** I cannot say enough positive things about Bihari Kennel! When our usual kennel had no availability for the holiday season (and we started searching way back in October!), I was scrambling for options for my 14-year-old Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher, Bruno. Bruno isn't the easiest dog--he's a cranky old man with vision issues, on a special diet, and set in his ways. By chance, a wrong turn in my hometown led me to rediscover Bihari Kennel, a place where my family had boarded dogs over 45 years ago. From the moment I reached out, the staff was kind, accommodating, and so understanding of Bruno's needs. They responded promptly to my emails while I was away, providing updates and ensuring my peace of mind. They carefully followed all my instructions regarding his medication and even allowed him to bring his own bed, which I know made him more comfortable. When we picked up Bruno after his 18-day stay, he was smiling from ear to ear--energetic, happy, and clearly bonded with the staff. I was initially so anxious about leaving him at a new place, but Bihari Kennel put all my worries to rest. This was no "ruff" decision--Bruno has officially found his new vacation spot. If you love your pet? Think about where you leave your beloved pet. My experience at BIHARI (Nanuet NY) was absolutely heart breaking. I left my dog at Bihari while going on a 4 day trip. Perfectly healthy dog with a clear bill a health at his yearly vet visit two weeks prior. on the third day of his stay we get a call from Bihari stating the my dog had a raw wound on his nose which was caused by my dog rubbing his soft cushion bed. I received a photo showing this wound. With no other injuries. On the forth day and our return flight back to NY we received another phone call from Bihari asking for someone pick up our dog and take him to the vet. Due to the fact that some dried blood was seen in my dogs mouth, water bowl, and mall over his bed. Arrangements were made to have my dog taken to our vet. While at the vet it was discovered that my dog had suffered three lacerations to his lower tongue. All requiring sutures. On our flight back we received a text from the Vet asking that as soon as we land to call them. Upon landing I contacted the vet (10pm) and was told to go directly to the Vet. Upon arriving at the Vet I was notified that my dog needed emergency surgery for a flipped stomach due to amount of blood ingested. Or my dog would be dead in 36 hrs. Emergency surgery was performed that night early moing to revolve stomach flip. Three days later the night of MOTHERS DAY we returned back to the Vet and had to put our beloved dog down do to complication from the surgery. I have reached out to Bihari for answers with no help at all. They refuse to show me there video for those to days. Biharis only response is that my dog did this to himself. If you love your dog think wisely where you leave you beloved pet. I would hate for you to go through a heart breaking experience that I went through. read more

This place is a nightmare !!! My trainer suggested I bring my dog there to be groomed He is a rescue and has fear aggression issues. They were only able to groom him half way , his body and back legs. I was told to bring him back to finish . I dropped hi At 1030 am was told the owner wouldn't be I. Till 1 but it would be good for him to interact with the dogs and staff , At 530 I received s call saying the owner just arrived and I should get my dog st 730. When I got there they told me they weren't able yo get up my dog. He was there all day !!!! No bath , no grooming. I was told there would be no charge.!!! Why would there no one did anything. My dog looked and smelled horrible. I bathed him my self. There is no way I will ever return Nor should anyone. The owner giddy even have the decency to come out and talk to me or call!!!! read more

I took my golden doodle in for a grooming, and they completely shaved him against my wishes. I would not recommend.

I took my puppy for his first time grooming here and picked him up disappointed. I dropped him off at 8:30 am and they told me it would take about 2-3 hours and they'd call me when he was ready. By the time i got out of work which was 6 pm, i went in because they still hadn't called and he STILL was not ready. On top of that, when i picked him up he wasn't jumpy as usual and looked scared. When we got home, i noticed his right eye was bloodshot red and swollen. They didn't care to mention if they poked his eye by accident or anything therefore i still don't know what exactly happened because when i called, they said they don't know, said will call me back and never did. I had to take him to the emergency vet and thankfully they gave me an ointment for the swelling and redness to go away. Even if it was an accident, i should have been told. I don't recommend this place due to their abominable service. read more

The best experience that I could have ever dreamed of. My family planned a vacation and my dog would not let anyone else leash him but me or my mother. I was a nervous wreck. My vet didn't even hesitate or give me any other option... that's how confident he was with the recommendation. The staff was well-educated, patient and kind with all of my concerns. The place was warm and friendly. I never thought I would ever take my dog to a kennel, but the peace of mind I have now, well, there is no other option. I LOVE Bihari! I returned to do some training with my dog and the time, dedication and years of true training knowledge can not be compared to anyone else. My first instinct when I went into the place told me not to leave my dog. I thought I was crazy and did anyway. That I will never forgive myself for. Go with your instincts. Unfortunately I did not read all the reviews before I left my dog there. I saw 5 stars and just went for it. It took a week for my dog to start getting back to normal. First of all you have to drop off the dog by 10:30am. She wasn't ready to get picked up until 6:30pm and only after I called did she say she was ready. I assume they had her in a crate for 8 hours based on her needing to go the bathroom desperately when I picked her up. Also with no water because she must have drink a gallon when we got home. She cowarded for the whole week. A normally very loving and attached dog stayed in the corner. Those were just the behaviors. As for the grooming. They shaved her probably never even bathed her. Her nails were not cut. Thank goodness because her paws were bleeding. Thankfully it snow which eased her discomfort. Never never never again or refer. read more

I have a 11 month old Shepherd who has been one tough cookie! He was getting very aggressive towards people walking by the window. I had an AMAZING Session with Joe Bihari and he really helped me with my dog. I was desperately looking for a groomer right before the Easter holiday being that our "regular" groomer was booked and had been booked for weeks. I found Bihari Kennels on google and read all the reviews. So I took a chance and called, not only did Bihari Kennels tell me they were also booked, but kindly suggested bringing Biggy in and they'll squeeze him in anyway. It's like leaving a child somewhere for the first time, I was a bit nervous (guess it showed). The groomer came out to meet me and Biggy, he bonded with my dog, talked to him, played with him and then proceeded talk to me about what I wanted and what he was going to do. I left, ran all my errands, even went to the gym and returned. Biggy was BEAUTIFULLY groomed and his scent was AMAZING! I kept saying how he looked like a brand new dog! I would give 0 stars if i could. I drop my dogs off there at 9:30 a.m. to be groomed. They were ready to be picked up at 5:30 p.m. On my way home i notice blood on her paw. I checked and there was a laceration. I immediately called Bihari kennels and asked them about it. The rude employee denied it from the start and said there was 0% possibility of it occurring there. Also my dog's paw had some sort of glue they must have used to try and shut the wound. When my wife and i arrive there the rude employee continued to take no accountability. So the owner came out to speak with us and was the most defensive and guilty and shady individual i have had the displeasure of meeting. Very unprofessional and acted like an animal screaming and denying that it couldn't even be possible for that to happen at their business. Makes you wonder how they treat animals if they don't respect people. After we couldn't get our concern across to anyone we proceeded to take our dog to a pet hospital and the vet confirmed that the foreign object on our dog's paw was glue. The smell on it was very strong. Like some sort of antiseptic. In conclusion, we were not satisfied with the service. Our dog was injured under their care, and there was no accountability and we, the customers, were treated disgusting. We were not even asking for a refund, only answers, or at the very most acknowledgement that it is possible to have made a mistake and that they apologize for it. Not to mention this was the second incident of an injury to one of our dogs at another time. And our last straw. This could have ended with an apology and perhaps future business. Instead they lost customers and have a bad rep. I do not recommend this groomer. read more

A neighbor of mine left her dog at Bihari yesterday and she knew when she picked him up that something was wrong. She rushed him to Urgent Care and was told all four paws had an infection in them. The poor baby needed pain meds, topical and has to wear socks until the infection clears. I say stay away from this place. I just picked up my cat today from a long weekend of boarding. This was my first time boarding with Bihari Kennels, and I chose it based on a recommendation from my vet. Given this recommendation, I was surprised to find several areas lacking in the service, which I had previously experienced as regular aspects of boarding and pet sitting services I have used in the past. Before boarding, I was already skeptical of the services as there was no intake form with information about my cat's health, her vet, or an emergency contact while I was away. The only information was the hand-written information about her feeding that was on a small intake card. Luckily I had already provided information about my vet, but at this point I wonder if that is even a part of the regular intake procedure. I also found it odd that I did not receive any updates about my cat while I was away, as that was the common practice of previous boarding facilities and pet sitters I have used. When I arrived at the boarding facility to pick her up, I was nervous that something was wrong, because two people who arrived after me were able to pick up their dogs before I received my cat. When I asked if everything was okay, the person at the counter said that there was only one kennel manager and I would be helped next. I replied that I was asking because I was there before everyone else but had yet to be helped. I received my cat's items first, and was surprised to see that almost all of her canned food was unused. I brought 14 cans, and 11 cans were returned to me. She should have had 1-2 extra cans, but this indicated to me that either she had not been fed the proper amount, or she was seriously off her food. When I asked about it, the person working at the counter became defensive and said that of course my cat was fed while she was here. I said I was sure that was the case, but I did not know why she was not fed the food I had provided. Luckily someone came in from the back to explain that she was off her food, and they had provided food from the kennel. When things like this have happened with previous boarding facilities, they always called to update me on my pet's health, and to ask if it was okay to feed her a different food. When I finally received my cat, I asked if they had any kind of behavior or health report that they could share with me from her stay. This was a common practice at other boarding facilities and with other pet sitters I have used. Again, I was told, in a somewhat hurried and defensive tone, that there was only one kennel manager and that they didn't know. After I paid and signed the store copy of the receipt, I waited for my copy of the receipt but the person at the counter had left. After several minutes, she returned and asked what I was still doing there. I replied I was waiting for my receipt. After finally getting my copy of the receipt, I realized it had taken 45 minutes to pick up my cat from the boarding facility. Of course this is not about me, but about my cat, who had by then been waiting in her crate for quite some time, and she was ready to get home. When I returned home, I brushed my cat and found litter throughout her fur. This made me wonder about the cleanliness of the facilities. Given all of these issues, I will no longer be using any services of Bihari Kennels and I will not recommend their services to anyone else. I will also let my vet know about the subpar experience we had, and I will ask them to reconsider their recommendation of this kennel service. read more

Love Bihari and the entire staff from the front desk, to boarding and grooming. My husband and I have had 3 dogs over the years and always used Bihari for boarding and grooming. Our dog Lenny has always had an aggressive personality and can't be boarded just anywhere. We tend to travel a lot and needed a place who can handle him. Bihari is the only place that when we start walking over, his tail starts wagging and he goes right in. They're able to bathe him, do his nails and take care of him in boarding where I don't worry at all while we're gone. They're truly professional and treat every pet as if their own. I left my dog here for just a few days. When I picked her up, her ears were bleeding, there was gunk coming out of her eyes, and her fur was coated in dirt. Her eyes had lost all signs of life. To this day I have no idea what my dog endured at this kennel. After her stay here, her health very rapidly deteriorated. As a disclaimer, my dog was already of elderly age at this point, but she was still going on walks just fine and was in good health. We would occasionally still play fetch for a short while. After her stay at Bihari, she quickly lost her sight and hearing, and came out with a very bad limp. We unfortunately had to put her down since her condition was so bad. I left this review so hopefully something like this never happens again: Please, please, please do not leave your loved pet in this place, ESPECIALLY if they are of an advanced age. read more

I made a reservation for my dog to stay while on vacation but was called the following day and informed Mr. Bihari would not allow my dog to stay due to her age and her need to wear a diaper at night. She is 17 years old but still in great shape! Her incontinence at night is quite common in mature dogs! Putting a diaper on her literally takes 5 seconds. His age discrimination is unacceptable! After reading the other negative reviews I'm happy it didn't work out. read more

We have taken our dogs here for haircuts for a year. They are reasonably priced and do a great job with both the dogs. We call it a "spa day" for them. They are there all day and are taken care of and treated to great haircuts and care. Highly recommend. read more

I have been taking my little rescue to Bihari for years, but after the last grooming she was scratching a lot. I thought it was just that she was uncomfortable with a closer cut, but it got worse and worse I wound up taking her to a vet when her ears became full of black gunk and the scratching got so bad that she had no hair on one ear, a lot of her skin became raw and the outside of the ear was actually pimply and covered with dry crud. After a few weeks on the meds she now looks and smells horrible due to the meds and olive oil that the vet recommended for the outside of her ear Now I don't know what to do! I'm sorry to feel I have to leave Bihari, but they do keep the dogs for a very long time during their grooming, and I'm afraid she picked something up while there; I can't risk it happening again. read more

When we initially called we were invited for a tour of their facility and were told the history, hours , services etc and answered our many questions. The prices are reasonable, staff friendly. Used Bihari kennel for grooming about 4 months ago. Haircut came out very nice- but my puppy had diarrhea for a straight week after her appointment. When I called to question if my puppy may have been fed something, perhaps something she may have been sensitive to- the person that answered my call became very rude and defensive, as well as the manager I was passed to. First the manager did not remember who my dog was, then quickly changed his story stating that my puppy pooped normal that day she was there. Like really? (Eyeroll) These people are crazy, just avoid them. I ended up spending over $500+ on an emergency vet visit and meds. I have groomed my dog else where about 4 times since, and have not had any issues. Weird. read more

I've left my maltese with Bihari kennels a few times a while back and they were great. Then we had a neighbor who loved our little girl and took care of her while we were away. Then we moved, covid happened, but then finally we took a trip. I didn't know any places here yet so I drove her over an hour to Bihari since I trusted them. We were going out of the country and they said they'd text me with photos and updates, since it was a long two week stay. I heard nothing from them for the first week so I called. They didn't know who my dog was when I asked about her. Then, oh yeah, they said, she's doing fine. I asked how she was eating since she tends not to eat for the first few days when we're away. Ah yes, they said, she's eating great! Well, when I picked her up she was actual skin and bones and completely listless. She usually licks my face uncontrollably when we return from trips but I got absolutely no reaction from her. Not even a wag and barely lifted her head. She was emaciated, weak, and listless. She couldn't jump on the couch or the bed for about two weeks while she was getting renourished. Shame on Bihari. I don't know what happened, maybe new ownership, but they are a subpar, even dangerous, kennel now. read more

Rude/unprofessional and overzealous parking area monitor - Iggy I'm just getting home from picking up my puppy from Bihari Kennels and I'm super upset by how the pickup went. We have a choice in the places we use to board our pups and though my pup seem like he had a good experience, I can't say the same is true for me/his human - the decision maker. This is my first time using Bihari and everything was great/perfect, up until the pickup this evening. I pulled into the small parking area which was pretty full and parked my car. As I approached the door to enter the building, I heard someone yell from an early model silver looking Cherokee, that was parked in front of the large gate and 'no parking' sign, that he can't get by. I looked at the space available next to me and there was more than enough room for him to get by, but I said to myself that not everyone has good driving skills so I turned around, walked back to my car, drove around the little island, came back and pulled into where he was parked. I then heard "Mam you can't park there, can't you read the sign?" I said I'm simply trying to pick up my dog," and his response was "everyone is picking up their dog." I quickly realized at this point that this is a person I shouldn't try talking to, much less reasoning with. I figured he wanted me to wait in the street till there was a parking spot to his liking available. I decided to go inside and at least see how many people were ahead of me and to let them know to get my pup ready for his departure. There was one lady on her way out with her pup and no-one else so I have no idea why the parking area was so full. This guy turned around, got out of his car, followed me inside and in a threatening manner stood behind me telling me he need me to move my car. I said I will. I asked the young lady at the desk if my pup was ready and she said yes he was, she proceeded to go get my pup and the guy followed her. I don't know if his intention was to hold my puppy hostage until I moved my car, but for the life of me, I couldn't understand why he was being so rude and barking at me like I was disobedient/insolent child. The lady who was on her way out, moved her CRV out of a parking spot, so I moved my car into that spot. When the attendant returned with my pup, she had to apologize for his behavior. I asked for his name and she said his name is Iggy and he's her team lead or something to that effect. She was very respectful, unlike him. I explained to her that the parking lot is full, he said he couldn't get by my so I moved, then he literally barked at me that I couldn't park in front of the "no parking" sign where he was parked, and asked if I can't read (double standards I guess - some people can park there, but some can't), then suddenly, he no longer has to go somewhere, he followed me inside to stand behind me to tell me that I need to move my car. I explained that it's a small parking area, this is my first time using Bihari and I understand that spots are limited, but there is no need for him to be behaving that way. She was very understanding and apologized again. My suggestion: Iggy, the parking area monitor need to be taught some people skills and how to differentiate between humans and dogs. Not that anyone should bark at a dog like that. Some customer service and professionalism skills would do him some good as to not cost Bihari customers in the future...if that's important to the business. read more

This is definitely a great place to groom or board your dog. The staff is friendly, and know the dogs and their owners. I took my German Shepherd to be groomed here and the owner took time out of his day to give me pointers and show me how to do some behavioral correction. I had even saw him do this with the customer ahead of me. I think that shows that he really cares about his customers. I had heard previously that he does try and work with dogs that come it if he sees some issues and today I learned it is true. I will never be going to petco grooming again, they do a horrible job and they are rude and apprehensive when working on dogs bigger than a rat. read more

I have been boarding my Black Lab here for a few years. Always feel good about leaving him here. The owners and staff are exceptional. My Lab thinks this is a vacation and loves to come here. He gets excited when we pick up his travel bag to come. The rates are reasonable but most important I feel confident leaving him. all the staff know the dogs by name and seem to bond with most of them. We board our Siberian for 2 weeks at a time. He is never anxious when we leave him and looks great ( they groom him while there) when we pick him up, and happy too. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. We call in often and they are always willing to speak to us about our "baby". I am very happy with Bihari and never worry when I leave my Siberian there. He needs medication, as well as a special diet and they are more than happy to help us. We had tried numerous trainers and tools that had not worked. We were completely frustrated. Joe worked with my two dogs and greatly helped our family. He is extremely knowledgeable in dog training. Although it's a bit pricey it is worth it. You schedule a two hour training session. The first hour Joe observes the Dog's behavior and also gives a lesson in how the dogs mind works and discusses problem areas and key components of training. The second hour is hands on and Joe walks you through a few different exercises tailored to your goals. He will not let you leave until he is confident you are able to continue what he has taught you at home. He spent over three hours with us at no extra charge. We are looking forward to staying in touch with him to ensure continued success of our training. read more

We just picked up our two cats from this place. We were expecting the cats to gobble down our cans of wet food, but they didn't, so I guess they were fed very well. The condo's are pretty big. Service was nice, we could tell these people care. We would definitely use Bihari again! read more
