I don't get it, it is busy all the time the food was not good! There are such better options out there.

If you were looking for a tasteless, pasty mealy textured hot dog with no flavor that is overall the size of in between a pig and the blanket and a regular hotdog, then this is the place for you. Really, how can you mess up a hot dog? I ordered the bulldog which is a chili dog with a little bit of coleslaw sort of mixed in and if I hadn't been completely out of food, I would've thrown them out. Don't waste your money or time at this cute little stand. I was so excited, but it turned out to be a sad time. I also ordered fries and they give you a tremendous amount, but they are not seasoned at all and so even with ketchup, they are really bad. Hot dogs were outstanding. Brunswick Stew is really chili stew and tastes nothing like Brunswick Stew. Chili powder has no place in Brunswick Stew! Last time I had the stew it was too sweet. This time....it was not Brunswick Stew at all. Needless to say, I am disappointed. read more

I love a good hot dog! My fave is from the Dew Drop Inn in Mobile, AL, so when I run across a place that could make me one, (hot dog, chili, kraut and condiments) I'll try it, as well as something that's their specialty. If you're hungry for a hot dog, these will do if you cannot get elsewhere, but they were mediocre, at best. I'll keep seaching for a better hot dog! read more

Why is it a new challenge each and every time of visiting this location? All I ever want is two, all beef, Collies with NO onions. If you are allergic to onions, The Dog House is NOT your place. Apparently, they do not realize that no onions means NO onions, even in the slaw. Who in the restaurant business puts onions in their coleslaw? They do and it hasn't always been that way. It was not even shredded like the cabbage but in chunks no less. I am done with this place unless there are changes made. These folks have been around forever, it seems (actually since about 1970), and the chili dogs remain a favorite of ours. There are five locations, 4 in Durham, and a very small location in Hillsborough - none have inside seating, though there is a very limited amount of outside seating in some locations. They offer six or seven specialty dogs, a sausage dog, just added chopped pork BBQ, Brunswick Stew, FFs, Baked Beans, and Fried Apple Turnovers, and they have just added an all beef wiener option - but with this very meaty chili (and they load it on), the screaming neon red Southern style wiener is best, imho. I love the dogs here, and we grabbed a couple on our way through Durham yesterday - as good as ever. Sure do wish they'd setup shop in Greensboro - the Chili Dog Desert of the Southeast. read more

The good ole standby for hotdogs in the South. I just returned from a trip to my hometown and everytime I am home (which is not often) there are just those certain spots that you must hit to reflect on past culinary memories. Ok maybe culinary is not the word to use when talking about a tasty, sloppy hotdog, but bare with me. I've gone to the Dog House for years when I was living in NC, and since this one is close to my parents house there was no doubt that I had to make a quick trip to increase my carb intake along with other things. I stuck with ordering my usual from back in the days, 2 collies and an ol' yallow. See if you're unfamiliar with the Dog House, each dog is named after a breed or name of dogs. The Collie, comes with slaw and chili, and the Ol Yallow comes with cheese and bacon bits. Dont ask me how they come up with the names, but they know their dogs, thats for sure. Top your order off with an apple turnover and some sweet iced tea and if you're wanting to put on some pounds, you will have done it after eating here. Simple, comfort food at it's best. They do have fries, and barbecue sandwiches and other offerings as well. The Dog House is not a sitdown restaurant, but has a drive-thru window and a walk-up window for service as well. I went to Dog House on Latta road today. The young lady was nice but when I order my food which is the bull dog combo I got home and counted my fries. I had about 8 small tiny fries some were burnt. I order my child her favorite which is the Chilli cheese spuds look at it and it look like something a 2 year would get at McDonald's chicken nugget happy meal. I paid about 14 dollars for a MFK snack. The Hot dogs are about the size of corn dogs. I HOPE YALL FIX THIS. Because I will rather stay home and make my own hot dogs. read more

If you're looking for that perfect messy and yummy hotdog, this is your place! The buns hug the hotdog and soak up all the juices from your toppings. Seriously, the most flavorful hotdog I have had in a long time. Even my 4 year old finished hers, bun and all! The staff are always pleasant and awesome to talk to! Just like a normal lunch break I go get me a hot dog a fry and a apple turnover for desert. I go drive-through get my food I open my hot dog take a bite into a stremely long piece of hair. This hair had to be at least 12 inches long. I returned back to the business within 3 minutes of leaving drive-through. I let them know it was hair in my food the young lady pull the hair out all the way to say "I will get you another bull". Not once did she offer to reimburse me just another hot dog, I refuse. I was told "I don't know how to refund you being that you paid with a card". In the end I feel as though this hair was in tangled not just on top or underneath so that means no one wears hair nets along with this chili wasn't prepared today. I feel like they will continue to feed this to people knowingly hair was found inside. I will never eat at doghouse again being that there standers are below average. Once a situation like this comes at hand they should be fully capable of handling and discarding below standard food. read more
