Sup Dogs was a big disappointment. We arrived on game day but early enough in the day that they were steady but not super busy. It was freezing today outside and we were seated by the door. Everything was fine until the hostess propped the door open. They left the door wide open and everyone in the front seating area was miserable. I asked if they could please close it and I was told no. They said the hostess stands by the door on game days. So they really don't care if their customers are comfortable or not. That says a lot. They certainly could've made adjustments given the cold and windy day. But our waitress was kind enough to move us when a table opened up in the back. That was a big relief and much more comfortable. Now to their food. The bacon cheese fries were great but didn't have bacon so we had to get them to bring back to sprinkle on top. The ranch was excellent and we all liked the app. My youngest got a grilled cheese which he enjoyed. My oldest got a burger which he said was okay, but nothing special. But the real disappointment comes in with the hot dogs. My first dog was cold, like unappetizingly cold. The waitress was very nice and took care of it immediately. However, the second dog came out almost immediately. If you like a boiled hot dog that's reheated in a microwave, you'll like their hot dogs. But I want a quality grilled hot dog. We'll stick to our ol' faithful CH burger joint from here on out. And I hope next time your customers are extremely uncomfortable on a freezing day sitting right next to the open door, you exercise some courtesy and close the door next time. read more

Sup Dogs is hot dog heaven, full stop. If you love a creative, loaded, over-the-top hot dog, this is your place. The Firehouse Dog is a must -- bold, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right kick. The cheesy jalapeño dog is everything it should be: melty, spicy, messy in the best way. And the taco dog? Somehow ridiculous and incredible at the same time. The fries are crispy, seasoned, and absolutely addictive, but let's talk about the real stars: the sauces. There are so many good ones that choosing becomes the hardest part of the visit. Drizzle, dip, smother -- you literally cannot go wrong. Even the buns deserve love -- soft, toasted just right, and strong enough to hold up to all that delicious chaos. Everything here is done right, from the flavors to the quality to the fun vibe. Sup Dogs is one of those places that makes you excited to come back before you've even finished eating. Five stars, no debate. read more

Zero nonsense, quick line, solid dogs. Yes, they'll get you with the $2 extra dog (in a good way). We saw a rack of Martin's potato buns when washing up and yes, this is the PERFECT bun for this style/quality of dog. You can polish off your dogs and be back on Franklin in less than 20 minutes. After games it can get busy and we're SO glad we left a few minutes early (blowout) and stopped in on our way out of town. read more

Open late, more combinations of hot dogs than you ever thought possible, and strong drinks--what more could you ask for from a college town restaurant/bar? Sup Dogs is open late enough for it to be a post-bar stop, but not too late that things get sketchy. Carolina decor galore, Sup Dogs also boasts quite a few large TVs if you're looking to watch a game. It's also a phenomenal spot for people-watching, so grab a Sup Crush (I recommend the cherry lime!) and enjoy :) read more

This place was great! A nice spot for a nice Smash burger or even a Hot dog! Good vibes and TVs everywhere so you won't miss any action! Service was very attentive and friendly! The fries were nice and crispy and the burger was well seasoned. I got mine with onions and sup dog sauce and it was very tasty. The only thing I would say is that the burger wasn't that filling I definitely would want a double smash patty next time. It felt like I could eat 10 of the regular smash burgers. I would definitely go back and ask for a double patty burger next time! Also I do want to try the other menu items as well! read more

A friend and I stopped in for a quick meal on a Friday afternoon, and we were very pleased. I ordered the Hawaiian Dog (pineapple, honey mustard, lettuce, and something called "Sup Dog Sauce"), while my friend got the Chili Cheese Dog (Monterey Jack and cheddar with house-made chili). We ordered both as combos, so they came by with a sizable portion of fries. The hot dogs were simply fantastic. Perfect flavor, and the condiments only made them better. The fries were hot, fresh, and flavorful, with just the right amount of salt. The aforementioned "Sup Dog Sauce" was served with the fries, and it ended up being a nice touch. Imagine a combination of mustard, mayonnaise, and barbecue sauce that is somehow delicious. It may not sound appetizing, but you have to give it a try! The next time I am in town, I will definitely come back. read more

The service was friendly and quick. The interior filled with murals. The food was awesome. Unlike most places, they offer freshly sliced jalapeños instead of pickled. read more

Went on Gameday and it was very crowded but we sat outside and the service was great.

The dogs were just okaaaaay...maybe woud have been better if they were grilled. I expected the Chilli to have flavor but it was bland. Cant say that I was impressed. Nice spot full of college students and TV and music to keep you entertained. EXCELLENT SERVICE. read more

I went with my family during my son's graduation. The service was absolutely horrible. I had asked for the cheese fries without bacon and a take out order. Was given bacon and a plate to eat at the restaurant. This combined with a 20% automatic gratuity, which is not marked anywhere and when I asked was rudely told I was being aggressive and cheap by the waitstaff, made my experience very sad. Never again! read more

The first time we went I got the Blackout Burger- very fitting considering we had gone straight there after UNC beat Virginia. I guess you could say I blacked out hehehe but fr... don't tell my mom #whathappensatuncstaysatunc ANYWAY this burger had homemade chili, beer battered onion rings, cheese, bacon, jalapeños, and sup dog sauce. The patty was a smash patty and it was so juicy and messy and great. After eating this burger, I realized I had gone to a place called 'Sup Dogs' and DIDNT get a hot dog so yes, I went back the next day. This time, I got the old school dog combo and for only $1.25 you can add a second hot dog so I got the firehouse dog. No regrets. Will I have a heart attack in the near future? Maybe. The old school dog came with chili, onions, and mustard. Simple, classic, tasty. The firehouse dog came with chili, jalapeños, monterrey jack and cheddar jack cheese, and hot sauce. This one had more of a kick read more

Sup Dogs is impossible to not love. There's plenty of servers to take care of you. The food is fun and delicious. There's something for just about everyone! Orange sup crush is iconic and fresh. My first Sup Dogs trip would've been over 10 years ago in Greenville and every time I've gone to either location the food and drinks are always perfect. I love sharing Sups with my family and friends! This location would be great for any UNC fan - tons of fun art inside and a lively atmosphere that makes it a Franklin St staple I'm sure. read more

I've been here twice, and the first time it was a late night but everything was great. Food, service, ambiance, whatever. The second time I came was on a game day, and I cannot express how much of a mistake it was. The place was packed. I just wanted to get out as quick as possible, so I asked one of the servers by the entrance where I'd place an order and she screamed (because it was so loud in there already) "OVER THERE BUT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE." Okay.. I stood at the place she vaguely gestured to for near 15 minutes (there was no line to place orders or anything) and tried so many times to get the attention of a server, but whenever I did they either scowled at me or ignored me. Like, 6 different waitresses & multiple times by the same ones. All I said was excuse me I never even got to place my order & ended up leaving. To be so forreal I'm a pretty sensitive person but that experience was so awful & I had already had an awful day I just ended up crying bruh All I wanted was a hotdog c'mon now y'all read more

Spent the day in Chapel Hill and needed a place to eat which was quick, affordable and family friendly. .. Sup Dog did not disappoint on this front. I really really really wanted to like this place! I stopped in on Saturday for lunch and thought the place would be packed but I walked straight in to order. I wasn't sure if it was dine in or not because no one greeted me at the door. I was given a menu with a QR code and able to place an order. My food came out within 10-minutes. I decided to sit outside to enjoy my food. I opened my box of goodness to find they the fries were cold. The only good part about it was the dipping sauce. The hotdogs were average just like the reviews on this place. I understand the 3-star rating now. I feel like the photos look better than what it taste like. Overall, good customer service. The girls working were all very kind. Other than that, it wasn't worth finding and paying for parking. read more

Great place for lunch. The service was awesome and the murals on the walls of the UNC players were well done. We tried the Western, Smokehouse and Sweet Dog combos. We also threw in a Smokehouse burger. The key ingredient is the chile they use on some of the burgers. Outstanding! I will say the potato rolls they use bring it home! Family of 6 ate for $84.00 before tip. The Jalapeño Tot Appetizer is a must. (Peppers are raw / fresh so very low heat) all the cheese and crunchiness of the tots is perfect. The dogs are spot on - chili and spiced right. My biggest love is the sauce for the fries - Oh my word! Smoky and tangy - all at the table said they wanted a bottle to take home! Portions descent. Atmosphere: Sup Dogs is a lively and welcoming spot on Franklin Street. The inside is chaotic and energetic, especially on the night of a big event or on the weekends. The seating inside is communal but with the friendly atmosphere, it is comfortable. Service: We arrived at Sup Dogs at around 12:40 am on Halloween night. Though the place was crowded, we received our food at around 1 am, which we thought was pretty quick given how many orders had been placed before us. We received our food from the counter and seated ourselves at a large table inside. Food: We ordered the Spicy Hot Dog, Old School Dog Combo, and Cheesy Tots. The Spicy Sup Dog came with chili and sauce drizzled on top. Despite its simple composition, it was filled with flavor and had a good amount of spice! The Old School Dog is pretty much what you want in a late-night grub. The chili was rich and a little bit greasy, and went well with the salty, meaty goodness of the all-beef frank. The Cheesy Tots were also exactly what you would hope for after a night out -- crispy tots covered in hot, stringy cheese. The Sup Dogs sauce was truly a match made in heaven for any fried side, whether it be their tots or long-cut fries. Overall: Sup Dogs is an essential after a night out on Franklin Street. The environment is energizing and the food is satisfying. It is a bit pricey for a hot dog and side, but we think that the food is worth it for an indulgent treat. They are also open late (until 3 am) on weekends, which is a huge plus! read more

If you like hot dogs, step right up and give this place a try. There are a large variety of options. I went for the Old School Dog Combo ... onions, chili, and mustard. And selected tots for my side. Yum! And I added a second dog for only $1.50. Yes!!! Of course, I washed it all down with a nice cold beer. I think another Sup Dog is in my future. read more

I love going here because they have delicious vegetarian hot dogs and fries that I house in 3 minutes and the inside is really cool because it has a huge Chapel Hill mural. The service is also really good, so that's another nice thing. It was really quiet only because I go a lot during the summer and not as much during the school year so the college students aren't around. There are also TVs so i don't get bored. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it. read more

Found myself up in chapel hill and thought it would be fun to check out Sup Dogs. It's fine. The Sup Sauce is fire but was hugely dissatisfied with the Chicago Dog. I can't believe they had the nerve to call this MJ's favorite. They'd be laughed off the streets of Chicago for serving such an atrocity. Jalapeño slices? Onions not diced? Where was the celery salt? No relish?? Definitely disappointing. Cheesy bacon tots were good. Service was meh. The girl seemed to be anywhere but there. I'm not saying I wouldn't stop in again sometime in the future, but won't go out of my way to return. 3 stars is a gift considering I didn't have high expectations to begin with. It's a college town and this is a typical college eatery/bar. Maybe it livens up on game day but it's not a destination eatery. It's just ok. read more

Saw this place on the way to Ben and Jerry's and liked the outside seating and thought of specialty hotdogs. The niece and I decided to check it out. OMGoodness! A hotdog combo is $6.99. You can add a second hotdog for $1.50 and upgrade the fries. The meal was $10.49 for 2 hotdogs and cheesy tots for me, cheese and bacon fries for her. To my surprise the hotdogs had fresh cut jalenpeno versus out of a jar. The sup sauce is yummy and similar to chic-fil-a sauce. Our waitress was sweet, took great care if us and is originally from Garner. I will definitely go back and take people! read more

Located on Franklin Street, I imagine this place gets pretty busy on the weekends. For us it was a Monday afternoon and we were able to walk right in and sit anywhere we wanted. With a name like Sup Dogs...you have to know they serve...hot dogs. And the hot dogs come a variety of different ways. There is a little something for everyone, even the one that just like their dogs plain. We ordered their cheesy tater tots and pickle fries. Both delicious, though I feel like the pickle basket could have been more full. But both came out piping hot. The sup dog sauce...delicious! Shared a coke slaw dog with my better half and it was not too big, just a little messy but flavorful. All in all a good place for a quick bite to eat. They have TV's with sports on and a decent bar. read more

Took the grandsons to Sup Dogs and it was great! Had the Chicago and Firehouse Dogs. Both were excellent and had fresh jalapeños. All ingredients were especially fresh, crisp, and flavorful. The fries are awesome and the Sup Dawgs dipping sauce is so good I could drink it. I don't eat a lot of hot dogs, but when I do it will be a Sup Dog! Finally, the service was great. Very friendly, prompt, and courteous. read more

Visited Chapel Hill from Alabama for a week and this was the second hot dog place I've been to. The first left MUCH to be desired, so I'm happy to say this place exceeded expectations. I tried the original, the smokehouse, and the old fashioned hot dog and they were all incredibly delicious. Seriously, the chili they put on these dogs is no joke! Hard to decide which one was my favorite, might have to fly over again sometime to say for sure. The restaurant itself is a sports bar so you'll have lots to drink and lots to watch on TV. They're open late too and, to my surprise, they were taking orders up to the last minute. On my first visit I made it 10 minutes to closing and they took my order no problem - I'm used to getting a grumpy response followed by lousy food when eating out late, but it was all as good as it was midday. Can't wait to go back here again next time I'm in Chapel Hill! read more

First * I was hesitant to do dine-in with a 2.5 year old because we heard this place only caters to college students and the energy in there is rowdy. That maybe true, but I am so glad I didn't allow what we "heard" stop us from going to Sup Dogs because our experience was fantastic! We were in town visiting family and in the past we have never had enough time to swing by to try the food, until today! I must say we were not disappointed with any of the items we ordered (drinks, tots, pickle spears, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and funnel cake sticks). The beverages were tasty and refreshing. The quality, portion size of the food, and prices were on target to what we expected from a hot dog establishment. And our service was stellar. Although I didn't get a chance to take a picture of everything we ordered, the Sup Sauce was the star of the show! Put it on EVERYTHING!!! We definitely will visit again the next time we are in town and encourage others to do the same if you haven't had an opportunity to check out a NC college staple! read more
