The poke bowl had a ton of salmon with two different sauces. There was also a DIY sauce station where I added some soy sauce. Finding seating was a little difficult.
We tried blue catfish and dogfish. Very nice flaky dogfish,tastes just like cod. I know I like blue catfish too. They make the best chips/fries and unusual shape. I found their tartar sauce to be too thick,different than typical ones.
The salmon burger is a solid item on the menu. It's a little pricey, although not outrageous, especially compared to other places at union market.
We stopped by The District Fishwife after seeing several positive reviews and decided to try the salmon poke bowl. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the bowl made for a good, light meal. The menu is fairly simple with a limited number of customization options, and ordering took a little extra time as we worked through the menu. While it wasn't quite our favorite poke bowl, it was still a solid experience overall. If you're in the area and looking for a quick, fresh meal, it's worth considering.

My only suggestion is to add a little more remoulade sauce. Alcoholic and non-alcohol are available for purchase. Fresh frozen seafood is also available. Service was quick. A small section next to the restaurant is open for bar top seating . Overall I enjoyed my visit.
The perfect spot for fish and chips. Got the dogfish variety and it hit. Crispy, hot, and tasty (with the tartar sauce). The fries were solid. The vinegar slaw was all right, would've preferred regular coleslaw maybe. Food came out within 20 mins. The people working were pretty nice. Since it's union market, it's hard to get a seat inside ( especially cause it was Saturday) but we lucked out and grabbed one nearby. This spot and aboveground make the best fish and chips in the immediate area. Try em both if you get a chance.
I stopped by The District Fishwife after seeing shrimp Po'boy on their menu. I ordered the shrimp Po'boy and sweet potato fries. I'm usually a big Po'boy fan, but this one just didn't do it for me. It was heavy on the bread and lettuce, light on the shrimp. And the shrimp that were there weren't crispy enough -- they just lacked that crunch I look for. Overall, it wasn't anything special. The sweet potato fries were okay, but they weren't as crispy as I like them either. They were a little soft, maybe because they weren't fresh or were baked instead of fried. Service was fine. One thing I did appreciate while waiting for our food was how clean they kept the seafood area. At first, we thought they were closing because they started cleaning out the fresh seafood section, but turns out they had just about sold out and were cleaning up early. The place was clean, and there wasn't even a stench of fish or seafood, which I really appreciated
Picked up salmon and tuna from here to make sushi and I was very happy with the quality and freshness! Will definitely be returning and would love to try some of their deli / food options!
Amazing selection, you're really drawn into the beautiful showcase of high quality fish food. Then you look up to this great drawn menu of a small curated selection of food items that is made fresh to order! Fish and chips were simple yet well executed. The fish was battered and golden, and came with these spiral fries, we loved the shape because they were still thick yet crispy! It came with a yummy side of pickled vegetables to cut through the greasy flavors, great compliment. Do take advantage of their sauce bar to dress your fish bites. Small things like a lemon wedge cost extra, but little things like that are kind of expected in these type of "elevated" (gentrified) food stalls. But do not let that fool you from finding good food, just be more critical about what you're eating and this is a pass for me!

I tried a tuna poke bowl and it's kind of nice that it comes with both a spicy mayo tuna poke and a more traditional soy glaze tuna poke. That being said, the soy one was significantly more delicious. The portion is pretty nice, but I wish the poke to rice ratio was better because there was wayyy too much rice. I liked it, but not enough to get another poke bowl from here. But, I'd definitely try any of their other menu items.
This place was busy and I can see why. The fish was perfectly battered and fried. The chips were also really good. I've never had fries cut in that shape, but I enjoyed it.
Hey friends! BRB still searching for the rest of my order LOL! I was disappointed to find that the portions were small. Outside of the portion size, my District Fishwife experience was pleasant. I ordered via UberEats. Food arrived in 20 minutes, hot and fresh. My boyfriend ordered the Salmon Cheesesteak and said he would not re-order it. He said the salmon had a weird aftertaste and could use more seasoning. I ordered the fried shrimp basket. The fries were very delicious. Crispy exterior, soft interior; packed with flavor. The shrimp were cut down the middle, which I found pretty cool and different. The shrimp was golden brown, but similar to the salmon, it could use more seasoning. I'll definitely give this restaurant another try just because the fries were that good lol. Bye for now friends, have a great day!
Date of service; Jan 2024 (late post can't remember exact date in January last year) Ambiance: I love a good food market. This used to be the 6th street farmers market back in the day, if you're a native Washingtonian. It's set up really nice now and they make good use of the space. They have a huge counter here where ppl can order on both ends of the counter. Food: I ordered a salmon cheesesteak and potato wedges! One word, 3 syllables- A-MAZ-ING!! Everything is prepared cooked to order. It was hot in temperature, full of flavor and served with the best customer service one could ask for. The wedges were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. I recommend trying this!
I ordered some food from the District Fishwife recently. I ordered the shrimp ban Mai , pickled veggies, and a papusa. The only reason I took off some stars was because my food was ready in about 5-10 minutes. I watched the chef place my order on the table for the front of house to serve. However the cashiers kept helping people at the register while my food just sat there. I received my food almost 20 minutes later. The flavors were good, but the food was cold by the time I tried everything. read more

A food stall located inside Union Market. The market has tables throughout and patio dining. I asked if the salmon was formed from chopped or minced salmon vs filet. It was the former, which is what I wanted. I ordered the salmon burger and lime crema slaw. The server asked if I wanted a side. The best options to me were a lime crema slaw and sweet potato fries. Staff recommended the slaw. Done. The burger had spicy mayo and jalapeno amongst another 6 or so toppings. No issues here. The spicy salmon toppings didn't drown out the fish. Glad I chose the slaw rather than the fries. Food was timely prepared. My brothers ordered from other stalls and were unhappy with their food. Recommend read more

This place is such a hit when I want a delicious fish sandwich. My only critique is that I wish the buns were more durable. When getting them delivered, they tend to her a little soggy. The salmon burger is the best! And the fries are a hit. read more

This place USED TO BE SO GOOD, it's horrible NOW!!!! Got fish this past weekend, the cost was $60 for just fish & salad, no fried. & the fish was greasy & salty as hell. I was in bed with a migraine the entire weekend from Friday to Sunday night. Don't know who's in the kitchen or what's happening but for that kind of money & food, I'll just stay at home & cook. read more

It was a bustling Sunday afternoon and a line started to build as I approached the counter. One of the team members was kind enough to open another register and cut the line down. I waiting about 15 minutes and my salmon burger was ready! The sweet potato fries and salmon burger were not the best I've ever had, I would return because of the customer service and it's once of the spots that gives me several options as a pescatarian. read more
Impressed with how fresh! The pickled veggie side was the biggest surprise -- lightly pickled and so fresh tasting, even better with the hint of sesame seeds. Shrimp in the bahn mi is fried but still very light -- enjoyed the pickled veggies & the bread was also nice and light. The full stem cilantro while it looked beautiful made it a little hard to eat daintily, would prefer that to be chopped up. I would eat here again and again and try everything on the menu. Easy to order, plenty of side choices. Plenty of of overall choices (if you love fish). If you're familiar with Union Market, it's first come first serve with the seating, but they have plenty of outdoor seating. read more

This place is located at Union market which is my favorite spot in DC to try a variety of foods. First time trying a banh mi sandwich and it did not disappoint. It's filled with slaw, cilantro, and fried shrimp. You can also get this with apple slaw which is what I prefer! This sandwich is super flavorful and one of a kind to me. Perhaps that's because I've never had a banh mi or perhaps it's just an exceptional sandwich. Either way, you should try it ;) read more

Both dishes were amazing. You walk up and order cafeteria style and then they call your name when your order is ready. I ordered the fishbowl with halibut. I like that you can choose between different fresh fishes when you order. The halibut was tender and fell right apart. Although a bit on the expensive side ($19) The portion sizes were robust. Always tough to choose what to eat at Union Market but this Fish counter and their offerings caught our eye. Specifically the Salmon Cheese Steak. I've never had a Salmon Cheesesteak so let the tasting adventure begin! Soft Hoagie bread with just right cooked Salmon (my concern was Salmon would be overcooked). Add your usual peppers/onions, Provolone & their Lime Crema and you have a unique take on a favorite. Comes with thick cut fries. Pricing at $15 was in line with most seafood spots. We enjoyed it and definitely worth a try. Service was okay and took about 10 minutes for the sandwich. Besides fresh fish, they have a few sandwich options and varieties. Edit: Not consistent. I've had to edit this review down because I went back to this spot to get the shrimp bahn mi for a second time. The sandwich was not very good, the veggies were soggy and disproportionate to the shrimp, and again the cilantro is packed in bunches into the sandwich with the full stem it's almost inedible with it included. Sweet potato fries are still good with a spicy mayo. Has the potential to be good but is not there yet. I've seen mixed reviews of this spot but the shrimp bahn mi was a hit! The fried butterfly shrimp was absolutely delicious and the bread was soft and tasty. The only complaint is that the cilantro was not chopped properly so I was pulling long stems out of the sand which as I ate. But the flavors were all there. Sweet potato fries were cooked well but needed more salt. read more

I came here on a relatively busy night since they were also serving a private party in the room next to them. I order at the counter and I think my food took five minutes than the time they gave me, but it's not a big deal. I also appreciate that they have a few condiments/seasonings on the side of where they put the food out! I loved the salmon burger and fries, it felt like the burger was gone in three bites since I ate it so fast. The fries I wasn't a huge fan of, but my partner loved them so I'm just not a crunchy fry person. I'm not sure if I would eat this again, it was $15 and I ate this more for the experience. I'm writing this a couple weeks after I went and since I don't really remember the taste, I don't think it was all that special. However, if you're visiting DC, this place or at least Union Market in general is worth visiting! read more
