The perfect spot for fish and chips. Got the dogfish variety and it hit. Crispy, hot, and tasty (with the tartar sauce). The fries were solid. The vinegar slaw was all right, would've preferred regular coleslaw maybe. Food came out within 20 mins. The people working were pretty nice. Since it's union market, it's hard to get a seat inside ( especially cause it was Saturday) but we lucked out and grabbed one nearby. I stopped by The District Fishwife after seeing shrimp Po'boy on their menu. I ordered the shrimp Po'boy and sweet potato fries. I'm usually a big Po'boy fan, but this one just didn't do it for me. It was heavy on the bread and lettuce, light on the shrimp. And the shrimp that were there weren't crispy enough -- they just lacked that crunch I look for. Overall, it wasn't anything special. The sweet potato fries were okay, but they weren't as crispy as I like them either. They were a little soft, maybe because they weren't fresh or were baked instead of fried. Service was fine. One thing I did appreciate while waiting for our food was how clean they kept the seafood area. At first, we thought they were closing because they started cleaning out the fresh seafood section, but turns out they had just about sold out and were cleaning up early. It's more of a 3.5 imo. As the name suggests, the seafood is pretty good here. I tried a tuna poke bowl and it's kind of nice that it comes with both a spicy mayo tuna poke and a more traditional soy glaze tuna poke. That being said, the soy one was significantly more delicious. The portion is pretty nice, but I wish the poke to rice ratio was better because there was wayyy too much rice. Located inside union market, it is a fantastic seafood option. The whole fish appeared to be quite fresh which was reassuring. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the pricing was fair I guess for the area. I ended up getting the salmon burger and while it was quite tasty and overall the size was good, the burger patty itself imo was so small, thin and just barely fitting the bun. My boys and I made a stop at the market today. What's great is that we all got something different. However, my oldest (who's quite a picky eater) wanted to split a swordfish parm sandwich with me. He's never had swordfish nor did I ever think he'd be interested. While waiting for our sandwich, my boys enjoyed viewing the fresh seafood that was available for purchase. As I received the sandwich, it had some good weight to it. I started him out with a quarter of the sandwich, just in case if he didn't like it. He ate more than half in total. He kept saying it tasted like a chicken parm sandwich which is one of his favorite meals. I have to be honest, the swordfish tasted almost like chicken. The batter didn't taste too oily or over fried. The sandwich had a great gravy and I love the loads of melted provolone. It very much felt like a chicken parm sandwich. We will most likely come back and I'm curious to see if my boy will finish a whole sandwich next time. What's really great about this location is there's a nook of seating which is quite convenient. read more

This used to be the 6th street farmers market back in the day, if you're a native Washingtonian. It's set up really nice now and they make good use of the space. Hey friends! BRB still searching for the rest of my order LOL! I was disappointed to find that the portions were small. Outside of the portion size, my District Fishwife experience was pleasant. I ordered via UberEats. Food arrived in 20 minutes, hot and fresh. My boyfriend ordered the Salmon Cheesesteak and said he would not re-order it. He said the salmon had a weird aftertaste and could use more seasoning. I ordered the fried shrimp basket. The fries were very delicious. Crispy exterior, soft interior; packed with flavor. The shrimp were cut down the middle, which I found pretty cool and different. The shrimp was golden brown, but similar to the salmon, it could use more seasoning. The full stem cilantro while it looked beautiful made it a little hard to eat daintily, would prefer that to be chopped up. I would eat here again and again and try everything on the menu. Edit: Not consistent. I've had to edit this review down because I went back to this spot to get the shrimp bahn mi for a second time. The sandwich was not very good, the veggies were soggy and disproportionate to the shrimp, and again the cilantro is packed in bunches into the sandwich with the full stem it's almost inedible with it included. Sweet potato fries are still good with a spicy mayo. Has the potential to be good but is not there yet. I've seen mixed reviews of this spot but the shrimp bahn mi was a hit! The fried butterfly shrimp was absolutely delicious and the bread was soft and tasty. The only complaint is that the cilantro was not chopped properly so I was pulling long stems out of the sand which as I ate. But the flavors were all there. This place is located at Union market which is my favorite spot in DC to try a variety of foods. First time trying a banh mi sandwich and it did not disappoint. It's filled with slaw, cilantro, and fried shrimp. You can also get this with apple slaw which is what I prefer! This sandwich is super flavorful and one of a kind to me. I came here on a relatively busy night since they were also serving a private party in the room next to them. I order at the counter and I think my food took five minutes than the time they gave me, but it's not a big deal. I also appreciate that they have a few condiments/seasonings on the side of where they put the food out! I loved the salmon burger and fries, it felt like the burger was gone in three bites since I ate it so fast. The fries I wasn't a huge fan of, but my partner loved them so I'm just not a crunchy fry person. I'm not sure if I would eat this again, it was $15 and I ate this more for the experience. I'm writing this a couple weeks after I went and since I don't really remember the taste, I don't think it was all that special. Came here a while ago and had been craving something with French fries, and the fish and chips seemed like it would hit the spot. The order came out pretty quickly (a bit less than 10 mins) and the fish and fries were nice and hot, clearly freshly made. The fish batter with light and crispy, the fries were really fluffy inside with great surface area for picking up the tartar sauce. I recommend getting two sauces, since the portion of fish and fries is quite generous. The only part that was a bit underwhelming was the slaw, which was nice and crunchy, but not as flavorful as I would have expected to balance the fried elements. The fish and chips are great too, and the shrimp po boy is solid (this from someone who lived in New Orleans for a few years, so I'm picky on this front). The fish counter is also great. What drew me to this place to eat in Union Market was the fresh seafood market.I knew anything I ordered from here would be really fresh fish and was I so right!! Everything we ordered from here was so Amazing!!! The fish and chips, the salmon for the meat part of cheesesteak was a first and so tasty and the fried oyster sub were must order again when i return!! Loved their chip concept to which was like a potato curl wedge so good didn't even need ketchup. The amount of Asian relish for the side was flavorful and large serving . Stopped by Union Market after the seeing the Cherry Blossoms yesterday. I decided to try Fish Wife because their menu is appealing. I ordered the Salmon Cheesesteak and my friend ordered the Shrimp PoBoy. We were highly disappointed in the PoBoy. The shrimp were so small that it felt more like a lettuce and tomato sandwich. The "Remoulade sauce" was not really a sauce at all. It just tasted like mayonnaise. I can say the Salmon Cheesesteak is good. At first sight it didn't seem like much salmon, but as I started eating I realized that it was. The flavor was good, but very light. It was a different take on the cheesesteak, so I could appreciate that. The peppers and onions also provided good flavor. I was asked what sides I wanted and I was really excited about the apple slaw because the cashier said it was good, but when I got in the car and opened my box I noticed they gave me fries. I'm not sure if they ran out of the slaw or it was put in wrong, but in the future it could be nice to tell a customer if you ran out of something before giving them a substitute. Would I try again? I was eyeing the shrimp pupusas, but I don't know if I'd want to take the risk. The Salmon Cheesesteak I might order again. Overall, the food was average in my opinion. read more
