While the downstairs was a bittoo loud for us, we were pleased to find the upstairs noise level much more acceptable. I had the burger with pork belly and chips. The Queen Vic is that spot that I never get to enough now that I live on the other side of town. So unpretentious and a pleasant spot where you can feel like a regular with comfort British food and I love that they have a clearly labeled option if you are vegetarian or vegan. They did mistakenly give my friend a beef and mushroom pie instead of what she ordered, but were quick to fix it. The staff knew the menu well and were kind to walk us through the different options of what we were looking for. Thank you for not trying to sell us those $5 shows of an aperitif, it was a little too early in the day for us to be drinking something so bitter. Know that if you come here during certain football match days, the second floor will feel like you are falling and you will absolutely hear it from the first floor. Originally went here to satiate my english man fetish in what I believe is the only genuine attempt of an english pub in the entire dc downtown. The place gave the perfect piratey speakeasy feel, (the entire atmosphere and greenish hue is best encapsulated by this movie poster for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, or The Northman if you're looking at staff) but the returns started becoming less about pretending to be at hogwarts and more about the incomparable Andrew. The cook/owner (unclear) is equally not bad on the eyes, which was a great change of pace for NE/H St. I can't say I would ever go there for the food; I go there for the dream. English dishes/cuisine to be fair is apparently SUPPOSED to be a lot like prison food or stranded on an island, I only ordered a milk-steamed sesame sauce broth of perhaps chicken once and it was only bad because the English concept itself was bizarre. Rest of the menu looked a lot better, but rest assured the ambience, entire staff, and quirky dj/projector screen choices more than make up for. I've gone there 20-30 consecutive times refusing to drink anywhere else and pretty sure they think I got whacked because I moved cities without telling anyone and vanished without a trace. When we arrived around 6pm on a Friday, the ground-floor bar area was mostly full and music a bit loud, but upstairs was more amenable to conversation and we had our pick of tables. Wait staff was very attentive. I had tried a Jameson shandy and she had a Cardiff Bluebird drink - both generously cheery and flavorful. I didn't notice the specials blackboard until I'd already ordered, but as a first-timer I had to try the bestselling fish+chips anyway. The savory pies are also very reputable. They have a long bar down the length of the pub that seats about 15 as well as four top tables and booths around the exterior of the spot. The vibe seems warm, cozy, and friendly - a great spot to stop in for a quick drinks, some socialization, and a bite to eat. We just stopped past for drinks and our expectations were met fully; we tried a basic rail ($9) and one of their offered whiskey cocktails ($12). Both were solid and of good quality for their prices. The bartender seemed to know a handful of folks at the bar - he was friendly and engaging with lots of the guests. It was nice. Downstairs was busier, which is cool for them, but I wanted to have a little bit more relaxed environment, so I went upstairs. The bartender was awesome and helped me with the menu. The closest thing to a "proper" English pub in the DC area, I have been going to this place on and off for years. They have a decent beer selection including Old Speckled Hen, Boddingtons and Bombardier so its worth it for that, assuming you like English beer. Which of course, I do! The food is ok. It has been better a while ago. It used to be better but sometimes a bit of a let down. So consistency is not there. Might want to check the website before you go as when there is a football/soccer match, the place will be very loud and very packed. I had the ground beef pie which was not the worst but certainly not the best. Not the best beef, but the shocker was that the pie came on a bed of mashed potatoes that tasted like it was made from a packet. Why not fries/chips, as in pie and chips?? and no peas. sigh. I am from London where "Pie and Mash" is a working class traditional cheap meal. That is made with actual potatoes and a green "liquor" made from parsely. The pies are freshly made each day and are fantastic. This pie was a million miles from that with dubious meat. That was more of an (hopefully) accidental travesty that annoyed me. This establishment has gotten worse over the years it's been open and in all descriptions states it's a traditional English style pub. The fact the bartender didn't know the difference between a larger and lime vs larger and bitters was quite surprising. Then they gave the excuse of only working at this establishment/pub for two years. I would once again suggest that they close their doors. Revamp with folks who are British to give it the flavor and authenticity it needs. Otherwise change the name and all descriptions about the establishment. My boyfriend and I came here a few weeks ago when we were on H Street on a cold and rainy Sunday and cozy'ed up in a two seater table by the window. The menu had a lot of things that sounded really good but we both ordered the Pork Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and braised pork belly kale. Now, this was my first time ever being here so, for it being a British pub, I wasn't expecting for the food to blow me away... But...O.M.G. The schnitzel was breaded and pounded perfectly thin and the gravy was SOOOO GOOD. The portion size of this dish is HUGE. The braised pork belly kale was also delicious. I've been dreaming of the gravy and kale since I finished my and my boyfriends leftovers over the next day (the server even gave me an extra cup of the gravy to go because I loved it so much) I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting this dish when you are at The Crown Vic. My neighborhood Facebook group (Hill East) is constantly raving about The Queen Vic so I decided I had to see what all the hype was about since I haven't been there in person yet. Everyone kept saying how amazing the fish and chips were so I had to give those a try, and also saw pork belly poutine on the menu, as well as got a goat cheese salad to freshen it up a bit. First off, my delivery came in a reusable grocery bag which was a super sweet sentiment, thanks! Can never have too many reusable bags! Second, HOLY GEES THOSE PORTIONS!! They were GINORMOUS! As expected, the fish and chips were incredible and I loved the mushy peas on the side. The pork belly poutine was delicious as well, though I was a tad disappointed that there were no solid cheese curds and it was only melted cheese (again, still yummy, just was expecting some actual curds). And boy am I glad I got the goat cheese salad to help brighten up the heaviness of the other meals, it was very refreshing! As you can imagine based on the portion sizes, I didn't have to cook for the entire weekend lol. I re-crisped everything up in the oven and it was still yummy throughout the weekend! I unfortunately missed the boat on ordering the batch cocktails as they weren't on the menu yet when I ordered but popped up a few days later - darn, will have to give that a shot again! I started coming for Mussels, "Moules Frites Nights" once a month on a Thursday they post to Insta (@queenvicdc). Their Mac and cheese gnocchi is insane, wings are good too, solid curry options, really good eclectic menu. Give this place a try and it won't disappoint! I would really like to give The Queen Vic 5 stars, but I can't. I came here for the first time a few months back. It was a Monday, and I really liked the 80s music that they played. The bartender/owner was friendly and the drinks were good. After years of living in the neighborhood, I thought I finally found my watering hole. I ordered 2 drinks and left. Fast forward to a month or two later and I was reviewing my credit card statement. I saw the charged for my drinks on Monday and there was an additional $60+ charge on Thursday, which was certainly not mine. I spoke to the bartender/owner about this twice and sent an email. This review is only for the chicken pot pie. A good friend was craving bangers and mash and I decided to tag along. This pub seems rather small (narrow) and dark so we escaped upstairs because it felt too tight on the first floor. I ordered the chicken pot pie and a hard cider. Be warned though that the menu has time restrictions attached. For example, you can't order the chicken pot pie until after 4 pm. However, this was The best chicken pot pie I've had in the DMV and worth the wait!!! It featured a nice flaky crust and huge chunks of perfectly seasoned chicken and vegetables. Sometimes, chicken pot pie is a bit soupy (too much gravy usually) but this was perfect. Next time I come here, I'm going to order a few of them to take home and toss in my freezer. read more

Visited the Queen Vic last weekend for Sunday Roast - one American (myself), two Brits, and one Aussie; overall it was an excellent experience. Some of the highlights/reflections from our visit include: -atmosphere seems kitschy, and the initial impression is this place may not be well maintained, however from walking through and from what i can see (including the restrooms) this is clean and maintained establishment. -Sunday was quiet and service started off a bit slow (we were upstairs). -Cocktails (Pimm's and Bloodies) were excellent and refreshing, although perhaps a few additional garnishings in the bloody would be good. -We all had the roast beef Sunday Roast - wow! There is enough food here for 2 meals; the roast beef was flavorful (if a bit tough), the potatoes and vegetables were fresh and well cooked, and the pudding (seemed like a popover to me) had a nice exterior/interior textual contrast. Although not a Sunday Roast in the UK, this was a great experience. I look forward to coming back in the future. read more

But anyway. This is the Liverpool soccer Pub for the DC area. There's another one in Courthouse Northern Virginia, which is even more unfit for the cause than this place. I want to give them 5, but it's kind of impossible, despite the fact that the place is covered in Liverpool memorabilia, and is pretty awesomely located. Parking is a nightmare here with the limited spots and extortionate prices of meters outside. Service can be a total nightmare here. Trying to get served was only part of the problem. The attitudes are a whole nother story. As far as friendly Liverpool fans go, these are a bunch of some of the least friendly. You should have seen the faces and looks in my direction. Bad vibes. Whenever I picked a place to hang out and stand, I was persona non grata. I've been here twice now and it's been similar both times. I feel like the bartenders and servers hate me, as do the other fans. But hey - you'll never walk alone! I love almost every Liverpool pub I've ever been in.
