What a nice local diner! This was my first time here and I'll be back. My girlfriend and I came on the Saturday morning before Mother's Day and it was pretty full, but there were a couple tables open, so there was not a wait. We both ordered the two egg platters with egg cooked over medium. I got pork roll and my girlfriend got bacon. The food was very good and came out in under ten minutes, which was great. I would say the egg was cooked over easy rather than over medium as requested. As for the location itself, it's a small hole-in-the-wall type of place, simple but gets the job done. Average diner downtown in Jamesburg. It has the usual food you would see in a diner - many options and always a classic. We came for breakfast so we got some breakfast food. The person I was with got the egg combo and I got an omelette special. It was okay and it did come out a bit cold. The service was a bit slow and our waiter seemed flustered. We were ready to put in our order and were told to wait a minute. Then when we got our food it took a minute for her to come around for the syrup and butter that went with our waffle. I went here for breakfast this morning and it was great. Nice place and easy to get to. Our waitress Sue was great. She was new but handled herself well. We were driving from NYC to visit friends outside Philadelphia, and The Diner was around the halfway point. I called ahead because we were going to arrive near closing, but they were happy to accommodate. The servers and patrons were all friendly. I got the steak and eggs with sides of bacon and hollandaise, and it was excellent (though the steak I asked for medium-rare was more like a medium, that's within spec for breakfast diners). I subbed a vegetable for my home fries. They only had zucchini - whichI thought a good sign, means they're getting what's fresh and in season - and it was very good as well, served in a tomato sauce. My bacon was crisp and juicy but somehow soft as well. My partner got the diner skillet, and she liked what she got. Everyone was friendly to our 6 month old, who sat in a high chair for the first time (with the staff's encouragement) and tried a bit of our food (and the table). He liked the hollandaise and the bacon. The bigger bathroom has a changing table, but it's at a bit of an angle and our baby DID NOT like it. I could give this place 4-5 stars but it does not deserve it. Listen I've been here over a dozen times, and every time I have had someone screw my order up. Always ask for an extra side and it never came out. Very cramped place and the food is average. A good place if you want to stop by for something to eat but it's nothing special. I've been going here for years (since it first opened) and I have always been a huge fan of the matzo ball soup. Today I ordered it after not having it for a while and it was extremely salty to the point where I got a headache. I literally felt like I was drinking the dead sea. Additonally, I thought there would be hope for the matzo ball but it had eggshells in three different bites. When I read they had the Monte Cristo sandwich, I was all for it. I'm a huge fan of the one at cheesecake factory. Unfortunately, it just wasn't the same. I would say this is the healthier version of the cheesecake factory one as it's not entirely fried or smothered in confectioner sugar. It does come with cranberry sauce and fries. The sandwich itself was a bit dry, even with the cranberry sauce. The fries were very good. My husband ordered the diner skillet, which came with eggs, toast, pancakes, coffee, juice, sausage, and ham. Great dish! My only complaint would be the juice, which literally was just a mouthful. We were working around the house and didn't feel like cooking so we decided to go out, but not far and we decided to go to The Diner" here in town. I have never been a fan of this place and they kept their status tonight. How this place made it in the top 10 diners in NJ on 101.5 is beyond my comprehension; are there only 10 diners left on NJ and they made the list by default? I ordered the "Bunny's Panini". The picture with paninis shows a roll but mine came out on grilled pita bread, this is not a panini. The chicken in my alleged panini was wet and flavorless. When I say wet I mean it was like they heated the pre grilled chicken in water making it taste like flavorless mushy chicken. There was nothing satisfying about the sandwich but the fries were hot and crispy. The pickle was disappointing because it wasn't a true pickle but a cucumber wedge brined in water. The minuscule portion of coleslaw was dry and vinegary. My wife had the Corned Beef Ruben which said was good but she'll never complain so I take her description at face value. Everyone was very nice and pleasant but unfortunately it was near closing time and staff was more concerned about cleaning up and doing prep to come by the table to check on us. Eventually as our waitress reappeared from the back we finally got refills on our drinks. We would have left sooner so they could clean up and get out but had to wait for our check. Everything I've ever eaten here has been bland, flavorless and cooked to satisfy the people in the surrounding retirement villages but salt and pepper won't kill anyone. Add it to the food to give or bring out flavor. If you ask why I go here if I don't like it; it's because the people I'm with choose here and I go with the flow but it's never my choice. read more

Why are people giving this dump 5 or 4 or 3 stars? Maybe they were paid or have no taste buds. I ate here with my wife for breakfast. We both had scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast with coffee. The eggs were bland. The hash browns burnt. The toast was bought form the dollar store and the coffee was like water. Since we were staying in the area, I thought Id give them another try. I made a yelp account specifically to review what I experienced here today. I was driving from NY to visit my parents in PA, and wanted a bite for lunch. Google helped me find this place. And as fantastic as the food and my waitress were, I will never stop here again. The older woman waitress who works the bar area screamed across the restaurant to a customer as he was paying, and told him "next time sit in her section, she will wipe your pants the whole time." The gentleman didn't really react so this waitress said it again. There was another waitress who wasn't my waitress standing there, I'm assuming that's who was being discussed. The manager did not acknowledge this interaction or intervene. The crude disgusting language and many insinuations this statement could have meant, it is absurd. To embarrass both a customer and a fellow employee is in poor taste, and quite disgusting. The owners of this establishment should be embarrassed to employ someone who behaves like this, and for that, as good as the food was and my time was enjoyed until this point, I will never be returning here. read more

I am local so I come here when I want to grab a quick bite or have breakfast. Half the way to a nearby iHop and I get to support a local business. The food is good, not great, but gets the job done. The service could improve though. My waitress was not very friendly. No smile, no consideration for a customer who is potentially going leave her a tip based on her service. She seemed like I was inconveniencing her lol. I asked for warm syrup with my pancakes and she said "we don't that, I can put it in the microwave". Food didn't knock our socks off, it was sub-par, for the most part. My sausage had a weird aftertaste also, and my wife thought her home fries could have been cooked a bit more. Coffee was decent. Service, not so much. Our waitress was not very friendly, seemed like she woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Overall, our opinion is that the Diner in Jamesburg is below-average, at best. Basic fare that is mediocre tasting does not get return visits from us.
