The lady behind the counter was very rude. I asked if they accept the birthday reward for a small soft serve that was emailed to me & expires on the 9th. It was the 2nd. My birthday was last week. She said she can only accept it on my birthday, even though it says it's valid for another week. Left with no ice cream. read more

Wish I could give it zero stars. Place was filthy. The woman was not friendly. I was a lucky one though I found a piece of plastic in the ice cream. Stay away read more

Disgusting. Dirty. 2 people no English at all. Clean the glass cases. 5.35 for small cone wtf

I am disappointed. I actually came on Yelp to give a much better rating because my experience yesterday and over the past decade deserved more than the ratings that I've seen.. BUT, after reading some of the reviews, I realize that I too have been significantly overcharged. I purchased a small round birthday cake and a pack of the "Flying Saucers" and it came to $65. I realized after going to the actual Carvel website that it would actually cost only $47. Wow. Now, I can only imagine how much I've overpaid over the years... This location definitely makes up their own prices. Well, since I order an ice cream cake at least twice a year for family birthdays... I'll be giving my money to another location. SHAME! read more

PROS: The lady that ran the place was very nice and got the order spot on. The place was clean, the order was made quickly, and there was even room to sit down in. CONS: They are missing some items from the menu online like the Reese's milkshake. Instead, I got the Reese's sundae cause its what they had OVERALL: Not a bad place to stop in and get a bite to eat. I uploaded some menu pics so you can use that as a reference rather than the corporate website menu read more

Stopped in for a cup of chocolate soft serve and received exactly that. Frankly, I was shocked that Carvel still exists as most of the stores have gone the way of Tom Carvel, their long-deceased spokesman and founder. Compared to the endless array of specialty frozen confections clogging the modern supermarket freezer, Carvel is barely better than a scoop of cold mashed potatoes but for a kid who grew up knowing nothing of gelato and looking to the equally ghosted Friendly's for actual flavor, Carvel had its moment. So as I debate whether to douse my treat in gravy or chocolate syrup, I'll pay my final respects to Carvel. Four nostalgic stars. read more

The menu says "Thick Shakes" with all of the flavored shakes listed, and the prices listed for small, medium and large sizes. I order an oreo cookie shake, and she says she has to upcharge me for the oreo. I said that's not how it works, the prices are listed and the flavors are listed, the Oreo shake is a flavor comes with Oreos. She says no the base is vanilla, that's the initial charge, if i want Oreo she has to charge me more. Scam artist. Carvel should look into this. read more

Who would've thought to check Yelp before coming to a chain like Carvel. What could've possibly gone wrong? Welp. I was wrong. The reviews are spot on. The owner was not welcoming, the facility was dirty, and the ice cream was skimpy. She gave bare minimum, just enough to fit in the cup - probably 1/3 of what the advertised photo on the board above us with pricing showed. Then when checking out she states they take cash only. There were no signs that said such and we only had a large bill so then she begrudgingly took the credit card. Will not return. read more

The service was ok and ambiance was ok but the cake was good a bit pricey but good. Mike Enjoyed his cake and we got many laughs off the reviews read more

I called to preorder a Tom the Turkey cake to which the person on the phone told me it would be $55 luckily I had already seen online they are only $25.99 I asked her about this and she denied this was the price so I let her know I would be ordering from another location. read more

We order ice cream and the owner was very kind and patience. Their edible print cake sheet was cheap compare to basket Robins.

I can't believe that the Yelp community has come to a consensus on this Carvel. Yes folks the reviews are true.....I don't understand why the Woman who owns this Carvel has not sold it....it is clear she is miserable and hates running the business. Any question or request gets a nasty answer. Buy ice cream to go....god forbid you ask for a bag. The Old Bridge Carvel while out of the way gets our business. read more

I got a cake yesterday for my son's birthday. I ordered the cake over the phone, I spoke with an older woman with a heavy accent. The one that everybody in the review seems to disparage. Let me tell you, I feel this woman's pain. She's a hard-working person who answered the phone No matter what time I called. I spoke to her at 11 o'clock in the morning and I spoke to her at 7 o'clock at night. This type of hard work and dedication Is only something that A business owner can appreciate. Now try Doing all of this in the language that is not your native tongue. This older woman called me in the middle of a snowstorm to confirm that I would be there because, of course she was going to be there, selling ice cream, in the middle of a snowstorm. I ordered a cake for my son's birthday, she was able to put a photo on the cake, she was able to personalize the cake, it all came out perfectly. Whether or not I enjoyed the cake is not the issue, my son loved the cake, my son loved the photo I put on the cake. It really upsets me To see all of these negative reviews, I wish her well and Wished I lived in the area to support her more. Also ive never had a fudgy the whale cake and may have to go back one day to get one read more

The owner is nasty and my daughter got sick from the soft serve. I reported this to carvel district office and the owner of the store called me a week after the incident! Carvel is now like Dunkin' Donuts (independently owned) so there is no standard customer service expectations m, it's more like you get what you get! NO THANKS !! I rather stick with big names that I know and trust. read more

Robbed for ice cream cake. $58.00 for a 10" fudge ice cream cake. The owner also had the nerve to ask if paying cash. I would be ashamed to be a corporation having someone using the Carvel name and charge an absurd amount for a small freezer burn cake. read more

Always friendly. Clean store. Never understand reviews. Always sweet and helpful. Great location.

We refuse to go to this carvel, while it's closer, like other reviewers, service is horrible and the woman is always yelling. Prices are way too high for what you get. Go to Carvel in Old Bridge! read more

The worst Caravel EVER, the lady that always there is so nasty, the place is always dirty and dingy. She's very cheap with the amount of ice cream and god forbid you try more then 2 flavors she'll start yelling at you. This was the last time I'm going there. In addition which this apply to other locations as well, $2.49 for a tiny tiny soft serve and the sprinkles topping is 70cent! How do you even charge for half a spoon of sprinkles on that tiny soft serve and if so why so much!!?? read more

Oh, give the old lady behind the counter a break. She's gotten much nicer recently. And she no longer counts the sprinkles. My kids love Carvel ice cream. (Why? I don't know.) I don't find much to like about Carvel ice cream, but it's right by our favorite family dinner spot, MJ's. So we use it to bribe the kids to be good at dinner. And it usually works. read more

I am standing in the store right now. I ordered a cake for my daughters birthday for 2pm (which is her birthday). I came in to pick it up and the lady behind the counter is telling me it is for tomorrow. I explained that is not true and she is arguing with me that I am wrong. She told me to come back later, I told her I couldn't come back later. She began yelling at me telling me she has been here 25 years and she knows how to tell time. I have no idea what that even means???? She started telling another customer she had to wait because I was wrong. If this wasn't like a comedy show I would have walked out sooner. Left after a few minutes. I guess I should have read the reviews before I went. read more

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! The lady (presumably owner) behind the counter is beyond rude and perhaps the least accommodating person I have ever met. She is the real life Soup Nazi (Seinfeld reference), and quite frankly the character may have been based on her. Your experience will be at best dreadful, with a hint of sprinkles, at your cost. Lord only knows how this store is still in business, and it it a testament to the quality of the product, not the person serving it, who is a relic of parallel universe sent to our planet to question our faith in humanity. If you want great ice cream with a smile go to Magnificos on Route 18 in East Brunswick. It's 10 minutes away and the ice cream is amazing! I say that as a patron and ice cream lover who has no affiliation with the establishment. read more

Do not give business to this gross, dirty establishment. If Carvel paid any attention at all, they'd revoke the franchise. Stale ingredients. Dairy kept at warm temperatures. Sloppily made items. The proprietor (as my kids would say) is sketch. She make Mr Krabs look like a spendthrift. Ate there and all of us got sick to one degree or another. Go to the Carvel on 516 in Old Bridge. That's how a franchise should be run. read more

I really should've looked at the reviews before coming here. I had birthday coupon for a free small cone in my email. It said the offer expired on the thirteenth. Today is the twelfth. My birthday was on the sixth. I came in to redeem it and the lady, who didn't speak much English, started shouting how I had to come in on my birthday, even though the coupon CLEARLY said it was eligible until the thirteenth. My mom happened to be with me, and she tried to help explain, but the language barrier plus the shouting just made us head out. Then the lady called out after because my mom muttered something about not coming back anymore. She ended up giving me the cone anyway, but she should have done that in the first place. I still didn't appreciate getting yelled at for trying to use a non-expired coupon. read more

Honestly was disappointed in my visit today. I normally get cakes (for all of my occasions) from Carvel in Englishtown, but today I thought I'd try a Carvel closer to me. To my surprise- Bad choice. Walked in, place was empty, same Chinese woman all the reviews talk about. Yes, definitely the owner. All her cakes are the same looking. Nothing special or custom like Baskin Robbins or the other Carvel. She attempted to write out Happy Birthday Ziggy on a small cake I picked- she was hearing Z's all throughout my spelling which spelled out Zizzy. Smh Then tried to correct it which by then the cake looked like shit. I had grabbed a candle numbered "2" and attempted to stick it in this disgrace of a cake, then the candle broke in my hand. That was it. I freaked out at that point and I started to curse in my own language. lol The woman looked at me funny and a light bulb went off in her brain. She realized she needed to sweeten the deal or I was about to just walk out and not buy anything. Then she'd be stuck eating Zizzy's birthday cake that night. lol She had me grab another cake and she re-wrote the Happy Birthday Ziggy again but correctly spelled this time. I grabbed another candle. She billed me $29.20. !!?? I asked her why so much? She said "I no bill you for first cake. Only bwoken candew". I shook my head and laughed. So you didn't bill me for a cake you screwed up on ?? Jeeeee thanks!?? Then she kept saying "I heew 20 year". I'm shocked you even stayed in business that long. Even more shocked that no one has reached over the counter and introduced you to .... never mind... Here's a cookie lady. lol THEN she tried to get out of accepting a credit card from me... "u no have cash?" smh...just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.. I can understand if you're a small business and trying to pay your bills but honestly, not like this. Besides her not so kosher attitude- the place was gloomy, didn't look too clean and def gave off bad vibes ... I should've just gone into Shoprite. Smh Yeah I def won't be back. read more

I swear if I could rate this 0 stars, I would. The lady who works there has to ask me what my order was like 15 times after I told her. She doesn't fill up the cups enough and she overpriced the ice cream. When I go on Wednesdays for buy one get one, she charges me 10.00 for a single large soft ice cream with a extra topping. Just don't waste time and go to the one in Old Bridge. read more

The best ice cream in the area rivaled only by four boys in the next town over. The finest scenery and service in helmeta. Absolutely delectable untapped gold held with in a cup. If your wondering if this ice cream store is good unfortunately no it is the absolute best ice cream in the helmeta area if your opinion is different your wrong I'm sorry but you are and if you think that baskin Robbins the ice cream shop near this one is better you need to be enlightened because you are mistaken. read more

I would put negative stars if I could. DO NOT EAT HERE. I ordered a simple Dasher, which was very sloppily made. When I tasted it, the crunchies that it was filled with tasted extremely stale, as if they had been left out in an open container in a refrigerator for ages. I tried to eat it, but the taste was offensive. When I brought this to the attention of the owner, she refused to take it back, refused to make a new one, and refused to give me a refund. She began screaming and yelling at me in broken English in front of other customers in the store and became very nasty. It took over 10 minutes of arguing (which I don't like to do at all) to get her to make me a new one, but she insisted on making it in a smaller size than what I had previously ordered. While making the new Dasher - even sloppier than the first one, she continued to yell at me and insisted that I taste every one of the ingredients before she put it in the cup to be spiteful and ensure that I would not attempt to return it again. She was incredibly rude and disrespectful. Absolutely no customer service whatsoever. I will never come back. read more

This Carvel store is one of the worst I've ever been to. The woman that served us was rude. We were the only people there. I asked for a few minutes to decide and every 10 seconds she asked if I was ready. The sundae I ordered had such a little bit of ice cream and was overpowered by the topping which was more syrup than cherries. It was also so sweet that I had to try and seperate the cherries from the syrup in order to eat it. This was not inexpensive. I would not recommend this store to anyone! read more

Not much to say since this was my first time and I only went because it was free ice cream cone day! Place is small and dirty. Lady was not friendly and people I was with that live in town said the one lady that works there (which was this one today) is ALWAYS there. They think she literally lives there (they are teenagers...lol). They said she is always yelling and they have never seen her being nice to anyone. Crazy lady working here! I think she's the owner and is here ALL the time. I used to go very regularly and consistently, to the point where the woman recognized us. She is so 'intense' that she makes me and my sister either scared or super frazzled because of her weird energy. Whatever we got, we were satisfied with -- honestly, how hard is it to screw up soft serve chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips and cookie crunch? But, it's her attitude that freaks me out. Overall, a really rude vibe and you don't want to linger and buy anything else. read more
