It's been a while since we last came here. Hubs and I decided to come here for breakfast. We were immediately seated after arriving. They had breakfast specials here, which we were happy to see because we don't see that as much anywhere. Hubs ordered the #5 Omelete Special, which is a Western Omelette with home fries and toast. Juice comes with it, also. He had the whole wheat toast and tomato juice. He said that he was happy to see this because it was part of a breakfast special and wished that the omelet was fluffier but he's glad to see that the meals are smaller. This way, he doesn't feel that he has to eat the whole thing. It compensates for the lower breakfast special prices. Lastly, I had the #1 two farm fresh eggs, over easy, with bacon and home fries and rye toast. This was pretty good, no complaints. I didn't realize until I got home and reviewing this place that I didn't get bacon with my order. My fault that I didn't catch it. Service was friendly and quick, though. With a menu as extensive as that of the Manalpan Diner, it is reasonable to expect that the entree selections will not be equally well prepared. In fact this is exactly why I always ask my server when I have narrowed down my selection at a place with a large menu. I boiled it down to three -- a traditional gyro, Fremch dip, or a burger. First question for server was "is the gyro made with the traditional lamb/beef mixture sliced off the vertical spit (as one sees in Greek restaurants)?". No it is not; rather it is the pre-sliced variety. One down. Then, I told our lovely server, I am between the burger and the French Dip. "Oh the French Dip is excellent". Well that settled it for me. Shame on me for not delving into the details. Such as: Is the beef thinly sliced? Is the beef served rare or medium rare or at least not overcooked? Will the accompanying fries be hot or at least warm? Had I asked these, and had server known, and answered truthfully, then the answers would have been three "no's". And in that case I would have safely ordered the burger. But alas things did not work out that way. I could have saved $20 (after tax and tip) and just found an old shoe, ripped off the sole, boiled it and tried to honor the victims of the great potato famine (1840s) or the seige of Leiden (1540) or Parisiams during WWII. read more

Posting this review for a friend whose Google account is not working It pains me to write this review but I've been going to the Manalapan diner for many years even before the change of ownership. My father and I would go in several times per week sometimes even four times per week and spend about $50 each time ...so we gave the diner very good business. There are many good people that work here. The wait staff are nice, the guy in the front who has a pony tail is very nice...great guy, nothing bad to say about anyone except for one person...the old gentleman Greg(the manager on duty). Like I said, my dad and I come into this diner several times per week and spend around $200 per week and people know us when we come in and always give us a friendly greeting.... So today we sat down and we had Sony as our waitress who is always pleasant. My dad ordered his turkey dinner and I ordered the cut the mozzarella chicken sandwich. This is something I get quite often I have probably had it a good 30 40 times by now. Anyway, to make a long story short, My sandwich comes out, and I took the toothpick out, and I decided to remove the lettuce and tomato because I wanted to eat them on the side, and as I'm looking at the sandwich I see there's two very tiny slivers of chicken instead of a big chicken cutlet like it's supposed to have!!! I informed Sony about this and she said she had to get the manager and so Greg came back to the table... However I should mention that before Greg came over I saw him make a comment to Sony and kind of roll his eyes like "these guys??" So here is where things get interesting, Greg starts accusing me of messing with the sandwich and he told me he wanted me to open the other half that still had the toothpick in it so that I can prove to him that I didn't take chicken off from one half and hide it under the other half. This was one of the most disrespectful things I've ever had happened to me in my entire life. The fact he could say that with a straight face when we're there so often is absolutely mind-blowing On top of that as I was trying to explain to him that I don't want to go and disassemble my whole entire meal he takes his finger and puts it in my plate about a millimeter from touching my food and he starts pointing at my chicken sandwich. At that point I had enough I told him to throw the sandwich out and how dare he accuse me of doing that and then we both lost our appetites and left. On top of this I will mention that another time we had been here probably two three months ago I had ordered the onion rings and two out of four of the onion rings which by the way cost an upcharge, two out of four of them had very hard onions that felt like plastic. I even showed this to my waitress and she agreed that they did not look normal. When Greg came over he was giving us trouble about that and making excuses. It's a shame this had to happen as everyone else there is very good but there's other places to spend our money so I hope it was worth it Greg. I will also mention that after Greg had disassembled the sandwich right in front of me to see if I had done anything wrong and he saw that I did nothing wrong he didn't even apologize. The diner probably won't miss our $200 per week but maybe some of the good people we've interacted with will miss seeing us in there...you never know anymore. read more

The pancakes were absolutely delicious, perfectly fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness. The staff was so nice to my partner and I! Typical dinner food! Had the classic breakfasts, sides and entrees. Definitely up to par on what to expect of a classic order. The restaurant was structured like a typical diner with a seating area and a bar. It was cozy and the large windows had a lot of natural light. It did get pretty loud inside though so it was harder to have a conversation. Service was on the slower side unfortunately. I did go at rush hour so it may just be due to how crowded the diner got. read more

Live local & have been going here for over 20 years usually everything is pretty fresh & pretty good. No major issues before tonight. Placed an order for pickup. Burger came missing sauce & way over-cooked but worse than that was two items were ordered with sweet potato fries that came totally burnt to the point of being totally inedible. Hit the spot. The waiter was very nice, polite, quick, and excellent overall. Had a headache in the morning but after I left I felt much better. Got a couple of bottles of Poland spring water and a couple of cups of coffee. The LO loved her Mac and cheese... apparently the one make the noodles stick together and she asked for another one to go! Ha! The other LO got chocolate chip Mickey mouse pancakes. Hubby got an omelette with a side of pancakes that he asked to just pack up to go. We also ordered a Kids menu French toast but we pretty much packed most of it to go. Based off our food pictures you might not think too much of this place, but it's been a favorite for me since I was a child. The server Angel was absolutely fantastic i genuinely have not laughed so much and smiled like that in a while, and he was just a very attentive and friendly person. The food is what it is, you're not getting a Michelin star chef but you are getting yummy and delicious food that you probably could make at home but .. why do that? They still have a lollipop basket at the pay counter, and typical diner decor with a bakery counter to preview baked goods. read more

One medium and the other medium RARE. Both came out well done, ugh. We should have returned them but we're hungry and didn't want to wait any longer. On the plus side service was good and portion size decent. However, on the minus side the French Onion soup was so salty we returned it after only 1 spoonful. Great quality food! I ordered a salmon wrap which had a nice, reasonable price. I tend to be picky about my salmon wraps and made a couple modifications, which our waiter was nice enough to happily accommodate. The portion size for the wrap was the biggest I've ever seen, and with great flavor. Some other menu items seemed to have a steep price but overall we had a great experience dining here. Walked in and the manager was sweet. Offered us seats inside due to it being chilly in their patio waiting area. Wait for a table wasn't bad at all, but our server was bit slow. At first the diner was busy so it was no problem, but our food took over 35 minutes to come out. The food was just okay. A lot of it was cold and unseasoned. Also the waitress forgot the powdered sugar and whip cream requested for the waffles. Also she never came back to check on us after we got our food so we had to ask the busser to retrieve her so we could get our check to leave. Also the food was a bit pricy for dinner food. read more

We love the Manalapan Diner. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and accommodation. And it's spacious and clean. And if you eat healthy, they have the best fresh salads. My wife ordered a cake she didn't like and asked if she can replace it & the waitress said yes of course BUT we got charged for it! I asked for an extra shot of espresso for my $5.49 coffee and for some reason they charge an unjustified $4 for a shot of espresso!!! Even Starbucks don't dare to do it. We ordered kids meal for our kids with franch fries which it comes with it but one of them Mac & cheese which cost the same don't come with side order, why?? But again the waitress didn't bother to mention it and charged us a $5 for side order to a $8 kids meal. Now I spoke with the owner and explained everything to him and he looked at me and without a care in the world said yes this what it is and refuse to change any of it and walked away. Hubby and I had to go Costco shopping, but ya know that golden rule... never go to Costco, BJ's or Sam's hungry, LOL. Sunday seating was surprisingly fast, maybe 20 minutes and we had a nice comfy booth. Looking over a Diner menu when you are hungry is terrible, you want EVERYTHING.. but get this.. we both put down our menu's and said, A Reuben sounds about right.. Starving, driving from Freehold mall. Found this diner with ample parking, decorated nicely for Christmas. Got a big booth in the back. Cup of soup is is only $3, we'll worth it if you're freezing.
