Stayed there like a year and a half ago and we stayed in the INN with three rooms booked....my daughter's room smelled like a sewer....the smell permeated to the main room so my daughter told me to go there and smell it and it certainly smelled bad....don't think they did crap for my daughter....also, last Christmas, I booked a cabin and the jacuzzi was stone cold....I requested a small refund of $10 or $20 and they basically gave me 10% which was $10....they gave me a rude look when I asked for a small refund....and the jacuzzi should be warm when you go into the room not stone cold!!!! It took like three to four hours to warm it up so we could use it....BEWARE because things are not good at the Dillard House....a room shouldn't smell like a sewer when you check in!!!!! They are just cheap people who don't care about giving you a nice stay and won't!!!!!! I won't be staying overnight again!!!!! I have been burned and will never spend a dollar there again!!!!! This place used to be one of my favorite places to come with my family when I was growing up. I loved the horses, mountains, restaurant, everything. The restaurant was still good, but then the room was just ridden with bugs. Stink bugs. Spiders. Etc. the views were still great and the room with the fireplace was still amazing, but for the price, there is zero reason that you shouldn't have fresh towels without a family of spiders making a home in them. I selected two stars only because of the property and the views otherwise it would have been a one. This was our second stay on the Dillard Property. The first was in one of their chalets a couple years ago - I wouldn't stay there again because of the insects inside the chalet and the overall unclean feel and lacking amenities. This time we made the reservations on line - possibly the first mistake - they were not the friendliest people I've ever dealt with upon arrival. We decided to try their inn this time. Don't think I'll be back. First getting in the room: So we had to call the front desk to find out "how" to open the door. Turns out you have to pull the handle up all the way and then push the door open - when you push down in a normal manner it does nothing - and they didn't think to mention this at check-in but then these folks aren't very friendly or helpful so I shouldn't be surprised. The restaurant: This was also the second time to eat here, it's all fried except for the "country" ham - aka salt pork or seasoning for vegetables. I've never tasted something so salty in my life. The fried chicken was very bland, the fried shrimp was not de-veined and also extremely bland along with the fried catfish. The country fried steak was ok. The vegetable were ok. The bread was not very good. The person who seated us was downright unfriendly. The waitress was nice enough though. The view is lovely. It is too much food they bring out everything on the menu which if it's not something you are going to eat just has to be thrown out. It's a big waste of food and far too expensive for the amount of food you actually eat. If you lived in the area then it might be a better deal since you can take the leftover home but from out of the area it's a total waste. The beds: Luckily we had a room with two queen beds because two people in one bed became quickly unbearable. The beds were so old and worn out that just one person on the bed rolled to the middle. A horrible night of tossing and turning. Waking sore and not well rested at all. The shower: No water pressure and no stable water temperature. I would have gotten more water pressure in a light rain then this shower had. I tried adjusting the head and all it would do is shut off or on. Then to top it off the water would go from warm to hot to Ice cold for several minutes at a time. At checkout: They were practically rude they were so unfriendly. I guess they knew what we'd say because they never asked us how our stay was. They did however ask the people behind us as we were leaving. I guess despite putting a friendly smile on our faces they could see the un-rested look in our eyes... I have never posted a comment before about a place but for the price you pay to stay here I didn't want others to waste their money. Be prepared to be disappointed. read more

This place showed us real southern hospitality when we stayed here to fight the Rock Mt fire. Food was really hearty and the accommodations were really nice. Sometimes I think they would deactivate the keys so we would come up and get them rescanned. Good times here. Looking forward to make my way back again. read more

Very disappointing! We booked room 140 in Blue Ridge. Needed a total makeover. Sink was cracked as was the bathtub which had no stopper if one wanted to take a bath. Bed was not comfortable. We were there for 2 nights for a wedding and our room was not cleaned after the first night nor were we given fresh towels. Front desk service employees were not friendly. We ate breakfast at the Dillard House which used to be good. Now it seems that everything comes from Sysco or below. It did not taste homemade. These rooms need a complete overhaul. read more

I'm here now. What a dump! It is not all what it is represented to be. Our room in the Stone House has a window unit with insulation falling out from around it. The electrical outlet in the bathroom does not work. Our queen bed is not anchored to the wall, when we lean back, our pillows fall to the floor. What is most frustrating is that this building has so much potential to be a delightful old building. The owners of the development just don't care! read more

So here it is in a nutshell. THE DILLARD HOUSE IS O.V.E.R. It's had a long standing reputation as the go-to place in Clayton/Dillard but frankly it's over. Went up this November 14' without reservations anywhere and frankly it was so hot I couldn't take anymore waterfallin. Stopped in against my better judgement to rent a chalet if they had one. Seriously busy being peak leaf time but honestly I was the only person under 65 in the place. It was 4pm and folks who'd just eaten either a very late lunch or early dinner had to track down someone to take their money. Then the lady told someone, it smells like wet dog in the restaurant". No response from the teenaged hostess who seemed to be so bored she was about to fall asleep. The chalet I wanted was available BUT at $169 a night WITH NO JACUZZI. All the jacuzzi are broken and closed in all chalets but no break on the rate. I looked at one of the 'upper' rooms and yikes, $170 a night for a hotel room with a giant outdoor jacuzzi in the living room, no thanks. The bed looked cozy but had a 16 inch old-school TV in the bedroom and when I went to see the room the maids were outside YELLING to each other down the breezeway. Nope, not gonna be woken up or have my privacy tainted by yelling outside. NOT AT $170! Went to the chalet, yes I paid $169 and no jacuzzi, firewood that would not light despite being lit by 5, yes 5 paraffin fire starters, OH I BROUGHT MY OWN, THERE were NO MATCHES, NO FIRESTARTERS AT ALL, kindling etc...what a waste of time and energy; a broken falling apart grill and a shower which frankly would have been more inviting outside as I had to walk over the hot tube cover to get to it. Oh and the leave blowers at 9am the next morning despite the rain. GRRRR THE ARE SELLING the chalet's and should! HOPEFULLY the next owners will NOT use The Dillard House staff to manage them and just build for private residences. They 'said' the jacuzzi's were getting soot from the county/city water pipes and blocking the motors, but last time I was there, which was 3 yrs earlier, the jacuzzi was about .95 degrees which means it was useless. The only people still going to THE DILLARD HOUSE are so old they cannot change and don't realize what a raw deal they are getting because they are stuck in their ways. read more

I wish I could leave zero stars. Run far away from this place. I went on a girls trip for my 40th birthday and we had to stay here for a night because our airbnb canceled on us. We booked a chalet. It was dated but that didn't bother us too much. Upon further inspection and close to bedtime, we realized there were several French style outer doors which didn't lock!! Like, the locks were stripped and even security could not fix the problem. We called the front desk and they were firstly rude, but secondly, upon offering to move us to a room which did not even accommodate our group, they wanted to charge us MORE for the move and to accommodate us. We were mind blown. The next morning we went to the desk and tried to plead our case and also ask for some type of discount or refund as our experience was just horrible... and we were met with more rudeness and complete lack of concern from the management. For weeks we tried to get the owners on the phone and were promised phone calls from the owner which was NEVER received. I will never forget how bad this experience was. read more

Oh my, how this old friend has fallen. We've stayed here every summer for seven years to judge at the BBQ Festival and, for the last few years, the signs of its demise have mounted. (Funny, I first thought, "oh- oh" three years ago when the charming Dillard branded cups were replaced by ugly styrofoam...) Rooms have become shabby, ice machines inoperative, this year I see the chalets are up for sale and having its own set of problems... Every year my group of friends who also stay at the Inn would look forward to the lovely Saturday afternoon wine and cheese party in the garden featuring a massive sweet and savory spread and endless beverages for adults and children. Last year we were disappointed to discover it had been cut back to one free drink ticket on the porch and a skimpy plate of crackers and cheese. And this year...cancelled outright -- no explanation. Meanwhile dining room prices have continued to rise. The location continues to be one of the most spectacular in the area with glorious mountain views making it ideal for events. But for the poor, loyal guest, sadly it's time to investigate other, less expensive options. read more

Called and got a price for a 3 day getaway. Was not happy when I went to check out and the price was over $100 more than what they told me over the phone. We do a lot of traveling and I always ask for total price before making a decision on staying somewhere. I did not write down who I spoke with so that was my fault. And I usually ask for email confirmation but didn't. We stayed in the Rockhouse which had 2 rooms joined with bathroom. When we got there the rooms where small but doable. The mattresses on the bed where very hard and not comfortable at all. The a/c unit in our room was messed up and went off and on all night so my husband was not able to sleep at all. I reported this the next day and they did fix it. The sinks in both rooms moved and the whole place needed updating. Overall, it was not a good experience and we will not stay there again. Very disappointed because all of my life I've heard how nice this place was. Oh, they did take 10% off our first night due to bad a/c unit. read more

We booked for two nights and left after one with no hassles. For mid week we paid $194 for a tired but clean room that needs updating. The ice machine was out of order but they did leave a cooler of ice in front of the machine for all to share. The tennis courts were closed with an "under construction sign" posted and grass and weeds growing in the cracks. Did not bother to eat in the restaurant. read more

The chalets are adorable and come with all the comforts of home. Very private and romantic for a weekend getaway. However, I only give this experience two stars because of the deplorable customer service. When my boyfriend and I arrived to check in, they had given someone else our cabin! We spent the rest of the weekend being juggled between rooms and they even tried to put us in a chalet with one twin sized bed. Good try, but we will not be back. read more

My wife and I stayed here to escape the traffic jam when we were returning from viewing the recent solar eclipse in North Carolina. I'd love to have great things to say about my stay at The Dillard House Inn, but unfortunately I never got the chance to stay there. The reservations call number is the poorest for customer service that I've EVER experienced. Multiple times over the last five days I've attempted to get a reservation over the phone but I've been placed on an unending hold only to circle back around to the same person who placed me on hold for yet another hold! Sometimes a person never even answered the phone, it just circled through their automated call list. Unbelievable!! I finally gave up, called a nice B&B down the road and got a reservation immediately. read more

We booked a chateaux online weeks ago with a hot tub. We decided to drop the extra dime for the hot tub as we were looking forward to a relaxing, romantic weekend in the mountains while we were up there for an event at the Hambidge center. When we got to the chateaux there was a dirty, leaky, stinky trash can by the front door that the smell ended up permeating through the cabin. The locks had to be jimmied to be opened - for about 10 minutes we were convinced that our keys didn't work. We got in - lovely cabin - lots of windows big beds, nice space! But we couldn't find the hot tub. We eventually found it in the master bath and it was a huge sunken hot tub that could easily seat 4 - 6 people. Hooray! But it was empty. We turned the water on - no water. We called the front desk and told them that it wasn't working. They said that their website had not been updated in some time and that none of the hot tubs in the chateaus worked any longer. We explained that we specifically booked this place for the hot tub- there were places on airbnb for much less that were far nicer. They offered us a free breakfast or 10% off the room - insulting. Oh heck no! We waited on hold for 10 minutes for a manager - who never picked up and then drove back to the registration desk. The staff was friendly and understanding, but we never did see the manager - she was in a "meeting." They told us they'd comp us one night and give us two free dinners. Okay - that's cool. We're good with that. We went to dinner that night and it wasn't their standard fare, it was a disgusting fried seafood buffet made up of all frozen seafood and very little substance. We couldn't even eat it, and were very glad it was a free dinner - because we wouldn't have paid for that. Plus they have this beautiful dining room that wasn't even a quarter full - they sat us in a back room near the kitchen. Ugh. We went back to the cabin for a romantic fire in the fire place - all the wood that was near the leaky trash was stinky and wet - 2 starter logs couldn't even get it to burn. The next day, we came and went several times and housekeeping hadn't come. At 8 pm when we got back, we noticed the trash taken out. The bed was haphazardly made (we didn't even notice it had been made until I saw the trash missing) - pillows and quilts still on the floor. Pretty sad housekeeping and late, since we had been there until 5:30 pm. We checked out the next morning and they tried to charge us for two nights and then fought with my boyfriend about comping a room which they had agreed to. It's really a shame that we had such a terrible experience because the location for us was great, we go up there a couple times of year and the cabin was quite cute - just stinky and clearly the false advertising was a HUGE disappointment. Dillard house needs to step it up. It could be a great place to stay - sad that they've let it go to bunk. read more

We had reservations to stay at Dillard house last night. Upon arrival we were promptly upgraded. The room was fabulous in the blue ridge building. What a perfect view this morning. It was too cold and windy to enjoy the rocking chairs but I can't wait to come back when it is a little warmer. We had a great stay. I would recommend the Dillard House to anyone!! read more

Not what we expected at all: very outdated We checked in Christmas Day around 3 pm, we went to the room and at first sight it was outdated and had an odor but we thought we would stick it out, we went to the Dillard House for Christmas dinner it was so hot it was hard to enjoy the food. We went back to the room to relax we noticed our sheets and bedding were stained but it was late so we went to sleep, in the morning we asked that the sheets be changed and were told no problem we went on a day trip to Gatlinburg and didn't get back until 11 pm and again our beds had the stained sheets on them, we called and they said they would have them changed Saturday they don't have any on site, Saturday morning came and we again reminded the front desk we needed them changed again we left for the day and came back again to the same stained sheets Sunday night I called and explained my frustrations because our room hadn't been cleaned except for the dirty sheets thrown on the bed the floors were dirty and they didn't leave enough clean towels for the four people staying in our room, came back mid-day Monday after a morning of hiking and wanted to freshen up only to find our room had no water, since the phone doesn't work in our room I had to walk up to the front desk and ask what was going on they explained they were fixing something and that it would be back on in the afternoon not convenient for people with children, we left and went on with our day getting in around 7:30 for our last night and we had the same stained sheets on our bed I again went to the front and complained the young girl explained how something was going on with their off site housekeeping company and that she put in a note for a 10% discount, which doesn't do anything for the fact that we never once had a fully cleaned room or ever received the clean sheets and bedding we asked for. We will definitely not be back and do not recommend it to anyone for more than a night stay over. read more
