We spent a couple nights at the historical Old Edwards Inn this week. We had the pleasure of soaking up every inch of the resort. We were fortunate to snag a Lee Suite in the Lodge. It was centrally located on the property and had some of most beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. We kicked off the trip with spa treatments. Note: appointments are a necessity (as far advance as possible) we lucked out with afternoon massage treatments. They were exceptional. Also you can't forget about the amenities. They are lovely! We dined at 4 restaurants on the property. Lunch at the spa cafe, drinks at Hummingbird over the fire, dinner at the Madison, and cocktails & soup at Four65. Needless to say, we look forward to another trip over the spring or summer. read more

Came here with a friend for a quick getaway. The staff at Old Edwards is really top notch, they are so friendly and accommodating. The pools are lovely. I especially like the upper pool as it was a little quieter and secluded. They put out sunscreen for you so no need to bring your own. As with many resorts of this size, they do kind of nickel and dime you for everything, which is unfortunate but not altogether unexpected. It felt like a luxury summer camp for adults in the woods, and I would definitely return. read more

When you think of hospitality Old Edwards Inn and Spa is definitely on that list. Soon, as we open the door to the establishment all of the staff stopped what they were doing and greeted us with a warm welcome. We were offered a complimentary glass of Mimosa before checking in. Surely set the mood, for our Winter all Inclusive package which was broke down in details by the lady who check us in. The Front Desk Manger assisted us to our room with a tour of it and the amenities that were located in The Bulter room. The floor in our bedroom was heated which was a bonus. They do offer water stations all over their property. Our package came with breakfast, lunch and dinner from the Madison restaurant which is located on the property. We really enjoyed everything at the Inn they even gave us a snack to enjoy on our road trip back home. Like, I said when you think of Hospitality Old Edwards Inn got your covered. I'm astounded at how difficult it is to make a reservation at place where the price point is pretty high. The web site is wonky and inconsistent - not very reassuring trying to coordinate accommodations, spa bookings, etc.. When we tried to make a reservation via phone we waited more than 10 minutes, listening to loops of recorded information. Not worth it - there are plenty of comparable places where we're treated better. James and Jessica Whitley need to listen up - front end impressions are important. read more

Beautiful gorgeous very very high end hotel on Main Street. They take care of every detail... I stayed in the main building room 19. Bed linens mattress pillows ... top of the line. Bathroom on the small side in my room, floors are heated, shower is powerful and great. Molten Brown Products, ladies will understand how great the stuff is. Ha ha. Chocolate chip cookies at your disposal, great service... Really a great stay it is very very expensive in my opinion but I loved it. Hotel is very very quiet. Service is exceptional. read more

My wife and I went to this place for a long birthday weekend. We stayed in one of the lodge cottages and it was large beautiful and very private. Staff was amazing. I did everything possible to make sure your stay was perfect. Also as a birthday guy every place we went we had two classes of complimentary champagne stuck in our face. Novelty at first but after about six glasses I was trying to stay away from the wait staff so I could last the evening lol. The lodge was very nice. We ate lunch at the bistro there what is amazing is the food came from their flagship restaurant Madison's. Spa treatments were excellent the common areas also nice, but we has Grove Park Inn as a comparator. Onto Madison's for dinner. Amazing. Was torn whether to write a separate review... starter was amazing: foie gras dressed with water cress, French toast and an amazing bacon maple syrup reduction. I had the bison brisket, so tender served w radish, lima beans I substituted and got the grits from our favorite mill in SC. My wife had the blue cheese topped steak w scalloped potatoes and grilled root vegetables. We both licked our plates clean. Passing on dessert we returned to our room to find a mousse layer cake and a half dozen chocolate covered strawberries! Rooms were beautiful with my favorite touches: gas fireplace, heated bathroom floor and towel rack. We've celebrated my birthday on six continents, but no destination better than this! read more

If you want to go to the mountains s to escape the heat and daily grind of life and want to be pampering in the most gorgeous and serenade setting, The Old Edwards Inn in Highlands NC is the place to go! We stayed in the piermont cottage which is a four bedroom home with so much history! We were able to cook together and had a bonfire each night outback. The entire property is gorgeous. The staff will pamper you and make you feel like one of the Rockefeller's who used to visit her back in the day! The wine garden restaurant was our favorite! The menu was over the top and the food pampered your senses!! The pool was a salt water pool that was so relaxing! The pool side chairs were perfect for reading and napping. They even had a very talented man playing the guitar! The bar service was incredible at the pool! The town is quaint with restaurants and cute shops! Bear outfitters had the best sweatshirts to take home as souvenirs! There is a great grocery store/restaurant down the road called mountain fresh! Fine wine ans cheeses! A great butcher shop where we got the best fillet mignon! They have a restaurant and coffee shop too. They say the pizza is the best there too. We didn't want to leave this piece of paradise in the mountains! It was an amazing place to celebrate our anniversary! GreaT hiking nearby too at Glen falls!! Looking to pamper yourself? Then this is the place! The property covers several blocks right in the middle of Highlands, NC. As someone that has checked into over 1000 hotels this is one of the few times I was actually seated during the process without someone trying to sell me a timeshare.... do yourself a favor and have the champagne.... plus free unlimited Dove ice cream bars, we didn't test the unlimited part of the offer but they are free. Everything is perfect right down to the landscape. Heated bathroom floor, heated towel racks for those chilly mornings. Our room had a screened-in back porch where we wound down each day. Basically this place is running a "bait and switch'" operation. Don't fall for the advertised 'special' on their own web site... they quote what is to be included and then when you go to check out they charge for those items ( diner for 2, 2 spa treatments and 2 night stay was their April special which I booked) I have been trying to get this resolved since April. Every call I made was met with promises of looking into it without a single return call, over and over again. At this point I'm sure I'm out the extra money but, not that they care, they are out a customer...never again! Be careful and don't fall for this scam! read more

Hospitality at its finest. Spent a weekend at the Main Historic Inn and attended a wedding at the Farm venue on property. Both experiences were first class all the way. For about $400+ per night, you really can't do better! Can't say enough about front desk and concierge staff - Ryan, Shakira, and Andrew in the Hummingbird Lounge were particularly kind in going out of their way to accommodate our requests and needs (calling in personal favors to secure tough to attain dinner reservations; finding cosmetics items my mother in law needed from personal stashes at home; squeezing in extra chairs and plates to an already crowded lounge just to fit family members as the group grew throughout an evening sharing bottles of white wine by the fire) respectively. I can't say enough about the grounds, details, decor, restaurants and bars associated with this inn... they even have water bottle filling stations and mini refrigerators filled with complimentary Dove ice cream bars around each corner just to make you happy. The Hummingbird Lounge, 465 Woodfire Bistro and Madison's restaurant are some of the most lovely small spaces in which to dine at any mountain spa resort in the state of North Carolina. Trust me, I think I have visited most! See my individual reviews on each of these restaurants on yelp for more detailed info! If you love old world European style luxury and don't mind an older building- choose the main inn with balconies overlooking downtown Highlands. If you're looking for a more modern room, maybe choose the Lodge or Spa Suites. You truly can't make a bad decision with this establishment. I can't wait to return and in fact we'll probably make it a yearly tradition! I can't believe I've lived just a few hours away in the Charlotte area all this time and have not visited before now. Why has no one told me about this best kept secret? I'm sure it's because they wanted to keep it that way. ;) Just to keep it real... If I absolutely have to nitpick about a couple little things here would be my hit list: * because the building is older, a little bit of street noise comes in all throughout the night mainly due to windows... although I have slept in much louder hotels than this one... if you are a light sleeper I would pack some earplugs. * The pillows and bedding could use upgrades. They didn't seem to feel as luxurious as other heavenly beds I have slept in at hotel chains around the world. * The bathrooms have no counters on which to place your toiletries. I found that a little irritating to have to use the sink basin for my cosmetics and hair brush etc.... * Lastly, you may want to know that if you travel to the Highlands in the off-season (we visited in March), much of the shops boutiques and restaurants keep a smaller staff and crew... some were not even open the entire weekend. You may have trouble getting a hold of places to get reservations so plan ahead and bring patience. :) read more

They are gaining more and more negative reviews among the locals. We used to eat at their restaurants- No more. Their customer service is horrible. We tried to call to make reservations a few times. Left messages, but no one even called back. One time, we just went there to see if we can get a table. We gave up and left after 15 min standing there the last time. We have two other properties in other parts of the country. This is the worst one from the Relais Chateau listings. Spoke with a concierge today about something. That woman hung up on me while I was still speaking. I called to inquire about something. Last summer, we were interested in finding out about the membership. We left our names and our telephone number with someone who was at the customer service desk. NO ONE CALLED. No surprise after how things were ar the restaurants. How in the world is this place still in the Relais chateau? I will definitely let them know about our experiences after this time. read more

Wife and I are staying here. Lots and lots of issues. 1. Between the 3-4 hours that we check in the luggage was never delivered to our room. No communication between staff members. Grade F 2. House phones don't work. Front desk when we checked in never informed us so we were unable to communicate with the hotel to express our concerns. Grade F 3. HVAC not working so as our room is at 78' and we can't cook it down. Have the front and rear doors to room open to ventilate and try to cool the room. Grade F 4. Called 3x via cell phone since the house phones were not working to the front desk and nobody picked up. Left 2 messages with issues to address never returned calls. Grade F 5. Left an EM with issues never responded. Grade F 6. So I had to walk all over the hotel grounds to both front desk areas to address. Grade F The setting and place is beautiful but if the experience is awful it's like looking at a beautiful woman or man and finding out they are horrible human beings. read more

The Old Edward's experience is a must if you visit Highlands. The ambiance, including all of their restaurants, is outstanding. We stayed in one of there cottages. Everything was perfect. From the bath products (Molton Brown) / bed/ linen / nespreso machine. Wow the gas fireplace. It was perfect. The property is breathtaking. I would have given 3.5 stars , but no halves possible. Let me start by saying I have loved Old Edwards Inn over many years. I remember when they were small and new-ish. Something is going on. Not sure if they have become overly comfortable or if there is financial issues, but this were different this year. Our room needed an over haul, chipped paint, our shower base was broken and chalked together, etc. Our daily housekeeping was horrible! We were there 3 nights. After the first night, they left dirty glasses all over room , no new toiletries. After the second night, I received 1 new lotion, no coffee cups , no water etc. my husband had to walk over to the lodge to get coffee cups at 10:30 . Never received ice , had to call and order. We ate one meal in the wine garden. 15-20 minutes to get any kind of cocktail. Only 1 bartender for packed restaurant. Meal took 45-1hr to receive. Waitress was very nice , but there was only interns working , no seasoned employees that I saw. Our anniversary dinner was on Saturday in Madison's. Once again , needs a complete over haul. Menus were so nasty, cracked and chipped. Food was very good. This is not the Old Edwards I look forward to. We are thinking renting a really nice home would be a better use if our money. Makes me sad. :( Ps/. Forgot to mention one other thing. Old Edwards has always been calm and tranquil, we sleep in, we relax. Well, housekeeping up by our cottage , the lodge cottages, has started slamming the doors in the morning when they clean rooms. This is a technique they use in business hotels when they want guests up and out so they can quickly clean rooms. They need to stop that. They have to really make an effort to slam doors , they are not spring loaded like a courtyard. read more

My husband and I spent three delightful days at the Old Edwards Inn & Spa. The beautiful hotel and surrounding property offered so many enjoyable experiences: the lovely rooms, cozy common areas, swimming pools, evening firepits and outstanding restaurants. The spa was amazing and could easily be the focus of a return trip. I can't say enough about the friendly and attentive staff. From the first welcome (with champagne!) to the final good-bye, they made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We can't wait to plan another trip! After the initial check-in, getting the bags was a nightmare. The Porter was to pull my car around in front of the entryway, but come to find out, he had never learned to parallel park! After going around the block a couple of times, he was able to park and they still didn't get everything out of the car. Then staying in the old historic part of the inn, they had to carry bags up the stairs, and stairs go every which way in this hotel, and we were misdirected. It was mass confusion. The younger Porter was very embarrassed and still in training. The older Porter kept admonishing him for his "shyness". Even called him "lazy". It was really uncalled for and I couldn't wait for them to leave the room. Not at all the service and professionalism that I am accustomed to with Relais et Chateau. read more

I just stayed here with my wife. I don't know how anyone could give them anything but 5 stars. It's the nicest most accommodating place I've ever stayed. It's not cheap, not at all, but it costs money to run this type of operation. I'm willing to pay for that. Enjoy it! It was the best time we have had as a couple. I booked a two night getaway at Old Edwards Inn on its website for the 1st of August. Since the booking was within two weeks of the stay, I had to pay a nonrefundable fee amounting to one night's stay. A week before we were to arrive, we get a call from Old Edwards saying there was an "inventory issue" and there was no longer a room available for us. No rooms on the whole property! No offer to rebook at a different time; no discount or perk to encourage us to book again. Just, we're sorry and we'll refund your deposit. To heap insult on injury, they then send an email saying "We'll miss seeing you. We regret to hear your travel plans have changed." Sheesh. Old Edwards is off my list for any getaways. read more

Just had dinner at their Wine Garden. Ordered a HOUSE white wine was charged $22 a glass! we had 2 glasses and didn't know they were charging us for their most expensive wine until the bill came! The house white is $14 as is normal. Know times are tuff, but this is sheer price gauging! Beware of this venue!! Will not go back here again!! read more

I booked this place for my husband's 50th anniversary. We drive from Roswell, Ga. this was our first time to the area. The Inn was 5star all the way. The moment you walk through the doors you feel like you've walked into a new world. Everyone is so nice. You never have to leave...you have so many places to go inside to enjoy... fireplaces, sitting rooms, piano bar, roof top deck with bar and fireplace, the best restaurant, outdoor space, butlers room with 24 hour coffee, fruits and dove bars. This might be one of my Favorite getaways from Charlotte. I have stayed here several times, and every experience has been above expectations. They greet you with a beautiful glass of champagne and treat you with ONLY 5 star service. The staff is SO incredibly warm and friendly. :) The aesthetics of each room and suite have such beautiful touches from the Italian bed linens to the heated marble floors. The Hummingbird lounge is also one of my absolute favorites when visiting. A day in the Spa is a must .. make sure to get the sweet mountain Morphosis! I planned a girls weekend getaway trip with my girlfriend at Old Edwards Inn and Spa. We got the comfort and joy package which included a three course meal at Madison's and a 50 minute spa treatment. Boy...This place was spot on. Hands down the best spa I have ever been too. They thought of everything little detail.. From the heated massage bed, to the warm slippers to slide your feet in, to the peppermint scented face towels. We ended up spending over five hours in the spa enjoying the amenities (hot tub, sauna, steam room, loungers with big warm comfy blankets). I've never been pampered and treated so well at any hotel. Kimberly, the spa attendant, was so sweet and kind to us. She brought us some champagne and spent some time talking to us and really made our spa day so special. Props to her and the entire staff! *Tip* You can use the spa amenities while staying at the hotel for free! Dinner at Madison's was equally great. Though I've had better ribeye elsewhere, the attentive service made up for it. I forgot our waiters name, he was from London and super sweet. In fact, a majority of the staff was international. I was told that Old Edwards is a training hub for Hospitality interns all over the world. #1 spa in the South and #13 in the country... It was an absolute delight to come here and I can't wait to return. read more

My honey and I came here for a quick get away, and a much needed vacation. My dad & stepmom had visited before and really had a gear experience so it was a must for us. Be forewarned, this place is pricey!!! Let's start with the good: The customer service was excellent! From the pool-side servers, to the guest room employees, to the check-in experience, to the gym attendee, everybody was very friendly and nice. 5 stars alone for the customer service. They had a bottle of Champagne waiting for us in our room for our 1 year anniversary. The views are breathtaking, from the rooms to the poolside lounge chairs (which are more comfortable than any I've sat in). The scenery alone was worth the trip. The free waters and Klondike ice cream bars were a huge plus. We could not stop loading up on both of these. I think it's a very classy move, based off what you're paying for. We found an ice cream fridge right near the Hummingbird Lounge, and hit it many times. Also, the Hummingbird Lounge was perfect to relax in and order drinks. The service in their was top-notch, and the drinks were perfect (my honey had an elderflower cosmo which she LOVED). The free game room was really cool as well. It had a pool table, recliner seating for movies, game machine that had around 50 games on it (all free), computers, chess board, fussball table (missing the fussball), dartboard (missing the darts) and fridge. The gym was very nice, and had cold bottled spring waters to use, along with weight equipment that actually gauged your range of motion and told you when you were going to fast and too far, or too slow and not far enough. Their was an upstairs yoga room as well. It wasn't a large gym but much bigger than your typical hotel gym with more machines than most. On to the bad: The room, while nice, was very cramped. I felt like I was knocking things over every time I got out of bed, and there was not much luggage space. The bed was comfy and the balcony was nice, along with the shampoo/conditioner, but to pay close to $300/night for that small of a space was not my cup of tea. I also didn't like how the bath tub side was so high up, as you basically had to sit your bottom down and slide over to get into the tub. Especially for my honey, with her hurt ankle, she could barely make it over. The other part was the steps up to the room. Another inconvenience, as the elevator did not go all the way up to our floor. We had to get off at the hummingbird lounge, and then trek over to a flight of steps. I felt horrible for my honey having to climb all those steps on a hurt ankle. Their onsite restaurant, Madison's, was also another downer. That'll be reviewed on it's own, but the only thing good out of that was our wine The pool was a letdown as well, as I was expecting it to be deeper, and it was more a wading pool. Ok, great for kids, but look at the clientele ... mostly older and no kids to tote. Last but certainly not least was the spa. We had facials done (we were 10 minutes late to our apt) and the cost for both of us was insane. I'm not even going to mention the price. I did enjoy it, but not worth the cost. Overall, a good stay for relaxing. Based off price, though, I would spend my money elsewhere. read more

So torn on rating here. This inn sits atop the Southwest plateau of North Carolina's Blue Ridge mountains. It definitely had a old heritage appeal to it. The room we had was really tiny, and nothing special. It was also located on the third floor, which was not exactly easy since the elevator didn't go to the third floor, and I was in a boot with a broken ankle. My boyfriend told the front desk this, but they did not attempt to make a room change for us. The bathtub was unusually high, and it was very difficult to get in and out of the tub with my ankle. The pluses? The staff was very friendly, and the night service left little cookies and slippers by the bed. There was also a little fridge in the hotel with bottled water, and a supply of fruit and Dove ice cream bars in their freezer. Nice touch. The martinis at Hummingbird lounge were also very tasty. The spa was good and awful. The actual facial for $180 a piece was seriously not even mentionable in a good way. I've had way better facials for $100. That was the biggest letdown of the trip. They don't even do extractions as part of it. And later that day, there was a white pasty film over my face. Gross. The spa amenities were very nice. There was a 14 count shower head in a nice spacious shower, and there were toiletries, a dry sauna, mineral hot tub, and lounge. But would I come back here? Never. The fitness center was great. They supplied towels, and had Purell wipes for the machines and mats. It was a very clean facility with state of the art equipment. They offered classes daily, and had headphones and a bottled water supply as well for the guests. Top notch. The pool was nice, but it was so shallow. The whole pool was only three feet deep. The lounge chairs were my favorite. They were the most cushy chairs I've laid in at a pool. Service was good, but the drinks and food were just okay out there. Very mediocre. There was also a mineral hot tub that was small, but soothing. Overall, I was quite disappointed in this hotel, and had expected a lot more. This place is spectacular! I don't even know where to begin...We stayed in a king deluxe room at the Lodge. When we arrived for check in, they greeted us with complimentary champagne. Incredibly smooth and welcoming check in. The staff were very friendly and made sure we felt welcomed the moment we arrived. They offered to take our bags to the room for us and showed us around our room. The room was a little small but the bathroom was large with a jacuzzi tub and heated floors. Large tv and did player, fridge, microwave and Nespresso machine. They had complimentary robes and slippers in the closet. The pools obviously were closed but the outdoor hot tubs were still open but we weren't that brave with 20 degree weather. The whole grounds are gorgeous and you truly feel like your in an upscale countryside resort. I can't wait to go back! read more
