I hate to admit it but cute, restored mansions are a weakness of mine. They're just so quaint and homey! One of the rooms had a sink built into an antique wall cabinet. Adorable! So, this little fetish of mine made it all the more hilarious that, along with a group of wedding-goers, we sold the place out for a weekend and proceeded to pretty much trash the place. I'd like to say I still have the party in me but alas I fell asleep to the sounds of drunkies out my window and Young MC on the ipod at only a little after midnight. All the folks that work/own this establishment are so friendly and warm that even this midwesterner was shocked and surprised by their kindness. Started our 30th anniversary in the highlands and loved it. Main Street Inn was clean and quaint. The restaurant was a little pricey but the food was outstanding. The trout in light lemon sauce with grilled vegetables and red potatoes was favorable and light. Perfect! My husband ordered their filet mignon (rare) which came out tender and perfect. The atmosphere was nice. We are definitely going back. The reason I gave it 4 is due to the fact they are a little outdated compared to current hotels. The breakfast was just hot coffee and store bought mini muffins. I guess I was expecting more since they only have 18 rooms and they have a restaurant. They are warm and inviting yet mind their own business. A few times a year, I meet my long time friend for dinner and a spend the night. He lives there in Highlands and I know they know him but they never let on. We are probably a little on the noisy side but when you see each other twice a year what do you expect.. We have made so many happy memories at the Main Street Inn, then it's time to go home. At least my wife is nice. read more

We had a great time here. The rooms were super clean, comfortable and adorable. The claw-foot tub was amazing. You couldn't ask for a more convenient location and the innskeeper was very pleasant and welcoming. There were complimentary beverages and snacks, and coffee/breakfast was served each morning. First time there staying at the bed and breakfast! Last time for sure. Overprice room( 275) with very noisy AC, non working fan in the room ( very hot in this tiny room)and no hair dryer for my bride! Ace hardware got them for $16! We have seen worst but for the price much better. On the positive side, the breakfast was good and the girl serving us was very pleasant. read more

Very cute place, bistro had great food and great service, however....do NOT stay in any of the "guest house" rooms! Crazy small first of all...we had a king size bed, and literally only had a couple of feet around the bed to move around. Secondly, zero insulation. Could hear everything going on around us! (People stomping around above us, people talking in other rooms, and cars driving by from the street that is feet away). Seriously overpriced for the room. We will not be returning. read more

Updated 3/13/2017. Finally received a response. They gave us a credit for a night to be used in the future. That seems fair. I still wish the hotel would have had a least one employee available for issues. _________________________________ I made reservations to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. When we arrived there was no staff in the hotel. We called the phone number at the front desk and a woman finally came and checked us in. We had to pay for the entire stay before check in. Friday evening we decided to cut our trip short by one day due to weather. There was no staff at the Inn. We left one voicemail Friday night asking for a refund. No one returned our call and no staff was in the lobby. Saturday morning we left three more voice mails and waited in the lobby for a staff member. No staff was in the hotel and no one returned our call. We place our keys on the desk in the lobby and left. The woman that checked us in was pulling into the hotel as we were leaving. We flagged her down and explained the situation. She said she would contact the owner about a refund and let us know. We left two more voicemails Saturday and one on Sunday. No return call. Sunday afternoon we called another number and an actual person answered the phone. She said she would check into the refund and call us back. She never did. I was extremely disappointed in Inn. I have traveled extensively and never seen an establishment not staffed. There was absolutely no way to get in touch with someone if you needed anything. I would never recommend this hotel. read more

Worst stay I've ever had, anywhere in the United States. I would never recommend this to anybody. Do not stay here. There are plenty of hotels that will better suit you. Upon my arrival in Highlands on a Thursday, my wife and I decided to book a room at the Main Street Inn. We had heard good things, so we decided to check it out. When we arrived that Thursday, there were probably 4-5 guests maximum staying at the hotel. We booked our room that day. The hotel manager and owners provided us a key to the room, and we stayed for the night. Unfortunately the following Friday (next day), we had to leave Highlands due to a family emergency. I returned the key that Friday to the manager and asked for a refund for the reduced stay. The manager and owners told me there was no possible way to refund my money due to their "cancellation policy" which I was provided upon booking. False statement - I was never provided a cancellation policy and I have the confirmation email from the Inn to prove it. Not once was I told that the full room rate was a non-refundable rate upon booking, and nowhere in my confirmation email is there any mention of a cancellation policy. Had I known this room was a non-refundable rate, I wouldn't have booked the room at all (or at least only booked it for one day at a time) considering the fact we knew a family member was in critical condition and could quite possibly derail our weekend plans. Please keep in mind the hotel was mostly vacant upon our arrival and our room was likely not "held" for us, as it would have been empty had we not reserved it the day of arrival. In addition to the insensitive gesture, the room was not clean upon our arrival. There were red stains on the ground floor near the bathroom, the sheets were not as clean as I would have liked upon our arrival, and the room was very hot despite the AC unit being turned on "High Cool" for the entire night. The proprietors were gracious and accommodating. We stayed in one of the larger suites and it was very comfortable. The room decor was very dated and worn out. It needed a facelift. They need to find a better location for the TV. The room was large and quite with nice linens and a good comfortable mattress. The inn was centrally located and within walking distance of nice restaurants and the shopping district. They also have a restaurant attached that had a nice menu and good reviews but we were only there for the one nite and didn't try it this time. What a disappointment ! We were placed in their guest cottage. A room not much larger than a closet with a bathroom the size of a closet. No chair to sit in if you wanted to read. No hair dryer, or even a pen to write with. I will say it was very clean and the food there is very good. I cant believe we spent that much money to stay in such a confining place. It really overshadowed the trip to the Highlands which we had looked forward to. read more

This Inn is very clean and the rooms are nicely decorated. They have outside dining so if you have the front room on the ground floor then you can watch people eat and they can see you lying on your bed! Kinda scary. I could have closed the blind but I wanted to see out. The room door locks we not very secure which only concerned me a little until I woke up the next morning and noticed all the outside doors to the Inn had been open all night! One on the doors wasn't even shut. I looked for an employee and none were to be found anywhere. This was about 6:30 a.m. So I looked to the back towards the kitchen and noticed that door was also open. I was wondering if a robbery had occurred and considered calling police. Now I'm wondering where the coffee is. Finally about 7:00 I went to the kitchen looking for dead bodies and made myself some coffee. By now other guest were up and we all went back to the kitchen to help ourselves to the coffee. Around 9:00 employees started coming in and I was told that the doors are never locked. When the manager finally arrived he explained to me that none of the Inns in Highlands lock their doors. The kitchen door is left open because they can not take their garbage out due to Bears. Did he not think the Bears could come through a screen door. If you decide to stay here bring your own deadbolt! read more

I have stayed at the Main Street Inn on three occasions. I've enjoyed it every time. The rooms are unique and the staff is accommodating. Two weeks ago I received an email from the Inn regarding a loyalty promotion. I made a reservation for a weekend to celebrate a birthday. The promotion included a 14-day cancellation policy. Unfortunately, we had a serious illness in the family and needed to cancel our trip. I would feel a lot better about this experience if the Inn had made an exception due to the unusual circumstance. As an alternative they could have offered a credit on a future stay or a refund if they rebooked the room. I've obviously been a loyal customer. read more
