If I could give this hotel more stars I would. I put on a retreat for a group of women once a year at this location. We will be back again for our 4th year. Every year it is wonderful. The service is always great. If there is anything a little off, they take care of it right away. The check in is outstanding since Champagne is waiting for you. Always helpful, friendly and happy to see us. As someone who has been to many hotels with a group, I can honestly say this one is the best for us. They even remember us from the year before and welcome any of our new people! Can't beat that. Can't recommend this high enough if you are looking to book for group. I was disappointed with our stay at Valhalla Resort. For the price, we expected a much higher level of quality and service. We paid $40 for a "cheese plate" that consisted of American cheese and a bottle of Welch's sparkling grape juice, which felt incredibly overpriced. The pool area wasn't well maintained, and our room had cleanliness issues, including a dirty bathroom sink. Dinner was also underwhelming. While the bread and main course were delicious, the appetizers were disappointing and the overall dining experience didn't justify the cost. We were also told one thing about room service charges, only to find an automatic 30% service charge added. Overall, the resort feels outdated and not well maintained. Despite charging luxury resort prices, it reminded us more of a budget hotel--except even a La Quinta typically includes breakfast. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend staying here. read more

I do not like to write a bad review, and I like to give the benefit of the doubt, but truly people need to have a heads up. We came here for my husband's 60th birthday. You can tell from the photos that the hotel is dated, so that was not a surprise to us. When I read the reviews and saw a 4.6-star rating, I was expecting a nice hotel, but it is a little odd. Driving up to the hotel, you're not even sure it's the entrance. We arrived, and when we got to our room, it smelled a little like smoke as well as animals. I knew they accepted dogs, but when I called beforehand, I was assured they were kept in a separate section of the hotel. Of course, later I saw a large dog in the lobby. Again, I knew they accepted dogs, so it really wasn't a problem. We went into the quaint town of Helen and never heard from anyone at the hotel, so we went to the small office desk in the lobby and asked about the smells. They moved us to the room next door. The room was comfortable, large, had a sitting area, and the shower was nice. The next morning, I took a walk around the grounds to check out the tennis court. I need to attach a picture because it was a little scary and definitely not usable. They should not advertise that they have a tennis court. As I called beforehand to make sure they had a tennis court and pickleball. The next day, we headed into Helen again and wanted to return to the hotel for just an hour or so before heading back out, but we couldn't find a parking space. We had to head down a steep hill where there were some spaces, then drove back up the hill to see if one had opened up. They have a large section of about five valet spaces. A woman from the hotel drove by on a golf cart, and my husband asked if we could park in one of the spaces for an hour. She said they were reserved for those coming for dinner. My husband sarcastically replied, "Not for those staying here for four nights?" She was a nice lady, but that seemed odd. She removed one of the cones, and we parked in one of the five open spaces. The place was very slow and seasonal. The funny thing is that after being there for two nights, and with only a few guests around, she even asked, "Well, are you staying here at the hotel?" She didn't remember us, and we had spoken with her three times. I promise you, we are easy people. We understand that nothing is going to be perfect, and we can accept that. But not remembering us after several interactions felt a little disconcerting when you're hoping for a special experience. Meanwhile, it is now the next day, and I'm sitting in the lobby. No one has come to talk to me about the tennis court. We mentioned the room smell, we mentioned the tennis court, and we had to follow up ourselves by the end of the day. It's just a little disappointing when you're looking forward to a special getaway and feel like your concerns are not being addressed. That said, we did enjoy the warm chocolate chip cookies that were available in the evenings. They were a nice touch. And I should mention our first night we had dinner at the hotel and it was good. The onion rings were our favorite. Okay, one last experience. My husband is a golfer and I am not - I am a beginner. We decided for our last day we would play golf in the afternoon even if it's just to hit on the practice range. I told my husband I do not want to bother other golfers. We go to the pro shop and my husband asks if there is a time and mentions I am a beginner and he said they were truly filled up and that is fine as we did not set an appt but when my husband mentions we'd like to practice a little on the range and you can see no one is out there at this time, he replies we don't have any practice balls as he looks around - but you are more than welcome to take the golf cart and pick up some balls yourselves. We proceed to do this and when we head down there we practice a little and another couple come down as well and they say to us, wow we've never had this before, picking up your own practice balls. Anyways, wanted to mention our last experience. It is a shame, we will never come back to Valhalla Resort again. read more

Talk about the perfect mountain getaway. They greet you with champagne, but honestly, it's the energy that sets the tone. Warm, kind, genuine hospitality from the moment you walk in front desk, dining room, spa, everyone. You immediately feel cared for. The room was spotless ! No dust in sight and very spacious. Double sinks (which we love) , and a cozy fireplace. It was exactly what you want when you escape to the North Georgia mountains. Even though the spa is in a small mountain town, it is not lacking at all. The providers are genuinely skilled and intentional in their care. I had both a massage and a facial. Our family visited Valhalla Sky Top in Helen, Georgia to begin our Christmas Eve celebration. While dining in the restaurant with friends and speaking loudly himself, the owner approached our table and asked my children to be quiet. Given that this was a public dining area open to families and holiday guests, this expectation was unreasonable. If the owner wanted a quieter or more private environment for his gathering, that should have been arranged in a private suite or by closing the lounge to customers. Instead, the request was placed on paying guests who were simply celebrating the holiday together. The interaction made our family feel uncomfortable and unwelcome and overshadowed what was meant to be a special evening. The room was big, clean and very nice. My wife, who can be quite picky was impressed, until she ran the water. Out came brown water when she tried to wash her hands. "Yuck" I heard from the bathroom. As I went in and looked I knew right then my wife's mind switched to this hotel is not clean. We reported the brown water, which cleared after several minutes, but never subsided during use, and the response was that they had some plumbing issues that they had fixed. Not good enough! Brown water makes showers a no go! Made my wife's stay one of, don't step on the floors or brush your teeth. I. Her words, "it was great until is wasn't." Other than that, it was great! read more

We ate at the Thanksgiving Buffet and were very disappointed in the quality of the meal. The turkey was very tough and had very little flavor. Mash potatoes had pieces as big as 1/4 of a potato. Let me share the 'highlights' of our experience to explain the 3 star rating. First, we arrived "early" for a 10AM spa appointment ahead of our hotel reservations and the staff were in a tizzy like it was unheard of guests arriving prior to the formal and official check-in time of 4pm. Surely this has happened before and there is sanctioned protocol for such events? Either way, we were not trying to check-in at this point - we had spa appointment! We made our way down into the basement, past the laundry room and caution wet floor signs and chokingly strong cleaning detergents, and into the spa area. Note, this is really a massage place and not so much a spa with any "add-ons" like a pool or sauna or relaxation or any of those things one might hope for when staying at a "resort spa". It's a massage in and out type of situation. After the most brutal massage of my life where I was left with shame and remorse, we did head back upstairs to inquire about our reservations. And this is the part that has me scratching my head - the concierge said she would call us when our room was ready, probably in the next two hours. And, she would even make sure our luggage was in the room waiting for us. How great, couldn't ask for anything more! We were planning to head into town anyways. So after 3 hours of enjoying Helen we head back to the hotel and still no phone call so we grab drinks at the bar, waiting. Until 4pm comes around and still no call, even though it was expressed we would be able to check-in prior to the official time. So we check with the *new* concierge lady upon shift change, and wow, our room is actually ready! So weird that we never got a phone call and our luggage most def was not in the room. Just odd to state all these things like a top tier resort but then not follow through. It left us feeling weird. Plus, it felt very cringe that everything in the room was for sale, tray of snacks and CBD gummies, just charge it to the room! Want a beverage, charge it to the room! Like this painting hanging on the wall, $200 and I'm sure you could simply charge it to the room! Special shoutout to our bartender in the Sky Bar! Super friendly and made up for some of the other idiosyncrasies with the rest of the staff we experienced during our stay. Also, now we're converted Nebraska volleyball fans! read more

This place was not worth our time or money. I would classify this "resort" as 2 stars, truly unexceptional in every way. Our room had a foul odor coming from the toilet, the staff were nowhere to be found. And there is absolutely nothing to do. We went over Memorial Day weekend and they were supposed to have a "party" and no one showed up, no food was out, no music or decorations. And the food wasn't included, you had to pay extra if you wanted something-which I didn't. This might be a good place for older individuals, but we are in our 30s and felt this was just a very boring place to visit and stay. Wouldn't recommend at all. And house keeping I don't think does a great job, we arrived and someone had left pills outside of a pill bottle near our coffee pot. Quick Google told us it was allergy medicine, but why was that there, why hadn't it been cleaned up? There are so many other things, which I wrote up in another review that went missing from here, so strange! I wouldn't recommend this place at all! Save your money!! read more

The place closes at 9 and we showed up at 8:20. We asked before hand if it was ok that we came that late. We were told "no problem." We ordered about 250 dollars worth of food and drink which were quite delicious. It was going on about 9:40 and we were given our check and placed our card inside the holder and we were patiently waiting for waitress to come pick it up. The manager appeared and before even looking to see if we had already given our payment told us the place closed an hour ago. It was 9:40 and we just finished and were paying. I've never sat at the chef's table but it was an amazing experience. From start to finish, the staff were friendly and accommodating. The meal and wine pairings were excellent. We started with a chicken curry soup which was creamy and delicious. It wasn't too heavy on the curry seasoning which I liked but was also curious what that would taste like. I'm not a big seafood eater but that salmon hated to see me coming because I devoured it. I would love to go back for another chef's table and try other menu items. We drove up at the last minute to look at fall leaves and needed a place to stay. We were not looking for anything extravagant. Every place was booked. We called the resort and Tammy was awesome. We stayed 2 nights in their penthouse (room 303), while up in the area again; this time for a wedding in Cleveland GA. The room was nice and spacious, and the staff really was excellent all around. Everyone exceptionally polite and helpful. Definitely the best place to stay in the area - they brought some classy to town with this one. We recommend it as the only place to stay in Helen. Just one thing they need to fix - that horrid rooftop that is much of the view out the penthouse balcony. They really feature local artists in the hotel and gift shop, and there are many murals painted around downtown Helen - get some local artists to paint this and make it a prettier part of that great view! Even a painting of the tops of trees would be a welcome change. If you don't want to actually paint it, but a huge painted tarp down. Worth the investment. read more

Got a good deal to stay here for Debs birthday weekend trip. First off the staff is so friendly! From the valets to the bartenders they were all professional and nice. We were well taken care of. Great dining and bar choices with a bar right down the hallway from our room with spectacular views! They will take you into Helen but they say service stops I think around 7pm but they will come and get you if it is later. We were luck and go an uber so we were fine. It is walkable if you like hills! We are very much looking forward to coming back and staying. read more

Valhalla resort hotel held a health Expo that I attended. I didn't get to see much of the grounds, but what I did see looked very enjoyable. The grounds were very nice, and neatly kept, looked as if it was a small neighborhood tucked away quietly inside GA Mountains. I got a chance to meet the owners and they were extremely nice people. Kind of strange to find an upscale boutique hotel in Helen. Boy, am I glad I did! My wife and I needed a little quick getaway and this place filled the bill. I was a little surprised by how small it was compared to the pictures online. When we drove up, Daniel walked out and greeted us warmly. Once inside Tabatha offered us a glass of Champagne at the registration desk. Daniel took us up to our room which was very beautiful and spacious with a sitting area and fireplace. The staff were aTtentive yet non-intrusive. Service with lots of pampering is the standard. A quick dip in the pool helped us start to unwind. As much as I love my children and grandchildren, staying at an adult hotel was very peaceful. The on-site restaurant is incredible. Chef Dean made me an incredible breakfast of steak and eggs. The flank steak was unbelievable--tender and delicious. My wife also enjoyed a pedicure at the onsite spa. I highly recommend the Valhalla to couples for a romantic get-a-way. read more

Valhalla is truly a slice of heaven. We decided to elope here and it couldn't have been more perfect. To start, we were greeted at check in with a glass of champagne and the service to help us with all of our bags was so kind. We enjoyed a fantastic meal in the Caledonia dining room the night before, and a great room service breakfast the morning of our elopement. We had our service in the Sky Bar. I was blown away with how beautiful it was and how they set up the room for our small group (8 of us including the photographer and officiant). Our room was perfect, the view was spectacular. The bed was so comfortable and we loved the fireplace. We look forward to coming back and staying a while next time. Thank you to everyone at Valhalla for your kindness and hospitality! We decided to celebrate our 40th anniversary by having brunch at the Caledonia dining room at the Valhalla Resort. Although we were not staying at the resort (but certainly will on future trips), we were treated as if we were long time members. Everyone was wonderful and provided excellent customer service from Judy taking our reservation and then giving us a wonderful greeting upon arrival. Melissa and Theresa worked together as a wait team and made sure our dining needs were met. Even the resort owners came over and spent time talking with us. At the end of the brunch we were surprised with a wonderful anniversary recognition which just made the day. The only disappointment was that we were not staying there (as we were not aware of the property) but we were still treated like long lost friends. I went here solely for the SkyBar which is located on the fourth floor of the building. I came here to celebrate a good friend's birthday. We had a large party but and the highlight of the visit was a beautiful scenery. I will point out the good and bad parts. Good: The server Jessica was extremely friendly and nice. The drinks were very strong and overall good! Now I am going to get to the not so great parts. For whatever reason, half the table got the same type of order. The food did not taste good and it took forever to arrive. The cook did not get our orders right. I got a classic burger with onion rings. My onion rings were cold, so I asked for another batch of hot ones. It took a while for them to come out. From some of the guests, I got a hint my party wasn't necessary welcomed in the restaurant. This hotel is nestled in tranquility and wrapped in luxury. My husband and I spent our 10 year wedding anniversary here, and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of this unique destination resort. Here's an example of a great concept with a dire need of southern hospitality training. This place had been a bookmark of mine for a while and it's only been in operations for just shy of a year. So I share my experience in that in time maybe they will turn things around. I'm sharing because in all my travels I've never seen an operational fail quite so unique as this. So imagine this, as a planner I scope out the area, its offerings, logistics and availability within hotel, friends, family and of course my own abilities. Summer birthdays are notoriously difficult as everyone is traveling to and from and getting all in tue same arena is quite difficult. I will give credit to the front desk Lady who I initially spoke with who was a fellow Georgian who once resided in Buckhead/inside perimeter area. I felt assured in my plans and proceeded to send out invites, lock in a driver for our stay-cation journey and even had a friend book a flight to join in. All booked for a Saturday escape and all that was needed was to iron out spa, dinner and a wine tour. So I thought. I get a call from a reservationist in regards to my reservation. She starts off confirming who I am and jumps into I see you have a reservation, but I dont know how. Then she asks if I got her email that morning, which for a work day in peak season I had not read. Calling me at work and tellibg me that the entire hotel was booked for a law firm. She then proceeds to say, but I will call them and see if they do indeed need every room. In short after a few calls and asking for a resolution, I was then suggested that they may eat the cost to rebook me for a different weekend. This wasnt really ideal for me due to knowing not everyone would attend if I switched weekends. I barely found the one day and that took weeks of effort and time that I don't always have afforded to me. Well there were some costs I wouldn't get back. I then requested if I could pay for the night, but get a free upgrade. This request was met with the GM stating you don't even have a confirmed reservation with us. A few other choice words and demeaning tone was used following. After I reminded her the conversation started with them saying their internal site had an issue. I wouldn't expect this treatment even with uaing a third party. I offered to screenshot or forward,thw confirmation from the site. After all this she said. We can give you room 201, it doeant have a great view as website says all rooms, and its a direct view of the air conditioning. I could go on, but lets just end with the happy ending. I relocated my stay to the Ritz by Lake Reynolds. The vision that Gayle and Jerry had for this hotel stops apparently where it counts, the leadership at this hotel was non-existent. I let Misti,the GM know,she could keep the room because how could I expect better on arrival after such blatant disregard for genuine interest in the customer experience. When operations fail, it shouldn't be up to the customer to make it right or to fix. Luckily it may look shinny and new, but its far from the only Luxury experience in North GA. read more

We celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary here today (July 29, 2020) and it was awesome! We stayed in a bungalow which provided us privacy as well as access to the resort amenities. The facility was very cleaned and the staff followed COVID-19 guidelines by wearing masks and ensuring guests social distanced. While on our stay we enjoyed a couple's body wrap with Blakely and Esca and it was so relaxing. We also ate at the Caledonia for our anniversary and the chef prepared the most succulent Pan Seared Salmon and Chicken Marsala. Our server, Dee, was so sweet and very attentive. This property was a difficult place to review. We had an incredibly good experience yet there were too many quirks that made it difficult to rank too highly. The pros - Staff was super welcoming and gracious, which made our stay extremely enjoyable in that respect. The deluxe king room was comfortable, clean and well taken care of. The double sink bathroom was roomy, nicely appointed with a separate toilet area, lush towels, large walk in shower and plenty of storage. The bed provided an excellent night's rest. The location, a bit on the outskirts of Helen, was quiet with nice views. The pool wasn't open, but the outside bar area, cabanas and pool looked clean and modern. The other common areas were handsomely furnished and in great condition. The quirks - The facade of this property was probably one of the strangest I have seen. It resembled more of a government building from The Cold War, than a resort. The car pull up area was small and awkward. The impressionist paintings hung on many of the walls, were unattractive and amateurish, yet commanded prices in the thousands. Maybe the "artist" is a family member of the owner. The hotel would fare better using local photos highlighting the beauty of the area. The tiny balcony worked for us but only because no one else sat out on theirs. It offered no privacy from your neighbor and one evening I refrained from going out there because a gentlemen was conducting business very loudly on his cell several balconies away. The bartender in the sky bar had no business working it. She looked lost when I asked if they had any specialty cocktails. She shook her head no, so I ordered a $12 glass of Chardonnay that was barely drinkable. My husband ordered a Stella and after clanking around the wine case we had to tell her it was a beer. She was a fish out of water. After a full day of activities, we decided to order a pizza for dinner. My husband called the front desk to inquire if any restaurants delivered. There was silence on the other end and then a promise to get back to him. The call never came. Really? That is just ridiculous. The guest rooms cried out for more homey touches and wall art. Most were bare which didn't help in creating a warm, cozy environment. Our restaurant experience ran both hot and cold. The server (who was outstanding in her warmth and disposition ) was a joy. I'm sorry that I cannot recall her name. The restaurant was touted to be the best in the area, which when looking back, doesn't say too much. The menu was boring, lacking any creativity or uniqueness. It pretty much offered the basic food groups. Nothing sounded intriguing so I ordered one of the specials of the evening.... the NY strip. It came with a side of fettuccine Alfredo and brocollini. The pasta side didn't make much sense to me, but hey, went with it. My partner ordered the mahi-mahi special. The steak was thin, but medium rare and juicy. The pasta was ok but both needed salt which was not on the table. We asked for some, and received two grinders, both of which were empty. By the time we actually did get our S&P (which my husband hijacked from another table) I was done with my meal. Unfortunately, the fish dish was dry and overcooked. Having such a limited menu, you would think that whoever was in the kitchen, would take the effort to have every dish shine. The birthday cheesecake was creamy, smooth, and delicious. A nice ending to a so so meal. Not sure if we would return here. If we did, it would have to be in the off season. I couldn't imagine being there when the town and hotel were packed with visitors. Such a hidden gem in North GA! Adult only resort. We enjoyed everything from our couples massage, body wrap, romantic dinner for 2 in their fine dining Caledonia restaurant and breakfast, best omelet I've ever had. My husband and I will be back. Thank you! read more

During our visit to Helen we enjoyed dinner at the Sky Bar at Valhalla Resort! This luxury resort is unlike anything you have seen before in Helen! Our meal overlooking the mountains was fantastic!
