HORRIBLE WORK - FABRICATED INVOICING - INCOMPETENT OWNER/CEO (G. C.) DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! They recently changed their name from "Make A Difference Landscaping" to "The Difference Landscapes;" new name, same owner. I unfortunately hired MADL and it was an unprofessional disaster from the start. They have ZERO project management and oversight, ZERO accountability, and ZERO integrity! Not to mention the "work" they do is sub-par at best. 1. The employees threw their lunch and snack trash into my yard and tried to bury it as they worked. (My home office overlooks the work site and I saw and took pictures of everything). 2. They dumped scrap rebar, angle iron, random plastic, wires, broken glass and ceramic tile ... and my personal favorite, a child's shoe into my yard when they delivered "screened loam." 3. I had to explain to their workers the correct way to lay stone and allow them to use my tools because they didn't bring their own. 4. I had to re-do several of their contracted tasks myself because it was not done correctly ... but the CEO tried to charge me for work that I did, despite knowing they did it wrong. 5. One task was estimated to take 3-days at a cost of $4,100. The invoice showed the work was done in two-days, but the CEO still tried to charge me for three days of work, even when I pointed out the discrepancy to him. 6. On the same task, I was one of the people working because they were SO BEHIND schedule, yet the CEO still tried to charge me for work that I did. 7. I was able to accurately document and prove that the CEO overcharged me $3,598.99 for work that I personally did and show that his record keeping and accounting was wrong. 8. I was able to document and prove that the CEO attempted to charge me $4500 for non-contracted work, while lying to the Better Business Bureau about what transpired. I have over 35 counts (physical and administrative) of documented errors made by this company, to include every single aspect of the final invoice being wrong. The CEO has no integrity or morals, he only cares about money in his pocket - he cannot be trusted! If you get STUCK with these clowns, take before-during-after pictures of the project, annotate what days people show up, how long they are there and what they are working on. It will be worth your effort, because at the end of the job, they will have no idea what happened when, but will invoice you to get the money they think they deserve. The CEO freely admitted to me that they did not keep accurate records, yet he didn't think twice about fabricating an invoice. Thankfully I had all of the documentation I am recommending to you, and was able to prove everything he claimed as falsified. I had to pay two additional landscaping companies over $10,000 to either fix or completely re-do what Make A Difference Landscaping screwed up. I am personally very confused by the other reviews. Did the management change, recently? Here has been my experience: these delightful human being show up weekly, and do an EXCELLENT job!!!! I mean, of all the companies I've seen that definitely aren't doing well, these gentlemen all really care about the property and take pride in their work. It's extremely clear. I was outside one day while they came, and they asked if they could help mow my clippings. I mean, you just cannot get better than these guys!! Most landscapers are rough-hewn and on some things... These guys are great, have great and professional demeanors, and are amazing!!! 100% go with them. read more

Back in April I prepaid $270 to start up , close and a mid season check for my irrigation system. I let them know I was having a problem for my mid season check. One half of one of the zones had no pressure. When they finally came out the dude discovered that the roots of the tree was crushing the hose. He spent one hour twenty minutes fixing the problem. He cut the hose and reconnected it around the root. I got a bill for $250. The contract states they charge $80 an hour plus parts. The numbers don't add up. When I talked to Greg the owner he told me labor had gone up to $100 an hour plus the price of gas had gone up. He took $25 off the bill. What a sport. My contract says $80 an hour and nothing about gas. The are 2 miles from my house. They are crooks. Stay away from this company. read more

Horrible landscape company. I had hydroceeding done last Oct 2020. The crew had trouble with the spraying equipment. The coverage was horrible. The crew couldn't get the equipment going as it should, then proceeded to hand spread dry seed on the lawn.. I expressed my concern with Isaiah. He said, He would come by and check it out. Never did but assured me, It's the same seed. OK, fast forward 6 months. The grass looks like crap, full of weeds and clover. Again reached out to them... Was told they were very sorry and the"Crews" would be on site the following day.....2 guys showed up. One being Isaiah. I had to email as to what was the outcome... The response was awesome, Have you been watering the lawn. Yeah, everyday twice a day.... Then I was informed be Nancy that Isaiah would be contacting me with many questions before they "could get to work"... A week goes by with again, no word from Isaiah... Then...Bam! An email from Nancy.... The " Crew" will be there tomorrow to get to work!" Hooray! Nope, they were a no show. No Call, no email...blah blah blah. My Email the next day as to where they were.. Oh, sorry. We have to reschedule.... Isaiah will be in touch.... Sorry, I got someone else to fix their crap. ME. A huge waste of money! read more

Not recommended. They were eager enough to accept payment for services, but the follow-up has been poor over the years. Had to repeatedly call to get our sprinkler lines blown out before a deep freeze. Recently had another issue. They put in a new lawn and sprinkler lines 5 years ago. Seemed fine until this year when new aerating led to 2 leaks. Although code states the lines are to be buried 6-12" deep, ours was barely beneath the grass. Called them several times and they refused to correct a shoddy installation. Even offered to cost share the repair. Refused. Buyer Beware. Look elsewhere for a quality company. read more

I rarely write bad reviews but I am so disgusted with my whole experience with this company. I met with a guy and went over everything I wanted done. Spring clean up, a lilac tree removed, the beds cleaned up and mulch put down. I had done most of the leaves myself but wanted it all pushed farther back into the woods. The crew came out and I watched from my window as a guy sat on a mover pushing a huge stick around that I later had to remove myself. None of the stick were picked up.. the leaves were half way up my blackberry bush suffocating it. They were supposed to remove the Lilac bush all the way to the roots but instead just cut the top off. When the mulch arrived it was the wrong color.. I wanted red.. which at my estimate the guy tried to tell me to not get it because it was more expensive.. and when I mention this I was told that it was not more expensive and that they had an issue with their red mulch looking brown. .. you can't make this stuff up.. They also broke one of my solar lights. It was not an expensive one, but instead of saying anything they just left the top toss in with the flowers. It took me a few weeks to get them to come out and fix all the issues. They never offered any money off for all the issue that I had. Not to mention that when I sent me first e mail no one even responded, I had to call. I do not recommend this company and see why they have such a low rating. read more

They are a bunch of inexperienced thugs who will not do you any favors. The completely messed my yard up. It was ready for hydro seed and they said it needed to be conditioned. For a $1000. They raised so many rocks on the entire lawn then hydro seeded over mounds of rocks and I had to pay someone else to take out all the rocks. 4 days of raking. So unprofessional and I do not recommend them to anyone. To think I found them on Home Advisor. Ridiculous!!! read more

I found this company through Hone Advisor after hiring a neighbor the year before... First of all John called to tell me he was going to be 5 minutes late for the at home consultation and was very prompt meeting the time frame. Coming from someone who knows nothing about plants I do know we're were ripped off last year. I wanted to assure this didn't happen again. John asked for my price range and was full of ideas telling me what would be easy to maintain but look good, what plants or trees to rip out and what areas to repair from the snow plow damage (same neighbor as mentioned above). Additionally, since our mowers broke he suggested weekly maintainer from another individual from his company, took pictures of the lawn, gave me an estimate and said Tyler would get back to me. Within a day I had both estimates and agreed to both contracts - the morning was $20 less then anticipated! I did, however, forget the ask the time frame in which the work would be done before signing the contract. Oops. Regardless the mowing was done right Way, weekly and the landscaping was completed in 2 days. Our yard looks so much better and I'm not ashamed of the front yard anymore!!!! read more

We hired Make a Difference Landscaping to spread loan, remove rubber mulch, add Liam and hydro seed. The company came out and spread the loam, removed the rubber mulch (we think) and brought in more loam to replace the rubber mulch. They hydroseeded both the front and back yard. What grew was nothing but weeds! We called them to come back and respray. When we complained about the weed content, we were told by the owner that this was NOT the time of year to start a new lawn, birds can bring in weed seeds, you'll need to treat the weeds with fertilizer. When we asked about the percentage of weeds in the hydro seed, all the guy could tell us was it was a "domestic blend." I have birds in my yard every single day but areas that the birds congregate, I have NO WEEDS! Only where the hydro seed was sprayed. I'll NEVER do business with this company ever again! As a follow-up, we hired Make A Difference to REMOVE rubber mulch in our backyard from the previous owners. We found the reason the area where the mulch was STILL HAS THE RUBBER MULCH! All the landscaping company did was fill the area in with sand. No loam like we contracted and paid for. Don't hire these guys. They don't do the work but certainly collect on the money. read more

This is my second transaction with Make A Difference Landscaping. The first time, I had five loads of sifted loam delivered for my garden. We felt the pile was a bit small and wondered if it was 5 yards. As we used it, we found lots of large sticks and rocks and seemed spent. In the end, this was probably not the best choice for gardening. The cost was $19 per yard plus a $30 delivery charge. They are less than 5 miles from my house. Yesterday my husband went there to order 5 yards of sand that we needed right away for a project this morning. (I took the day off today to unload it.) They told him that they guys would be back between 6pm and 7pm and they would deliver around then. We waited until dark- no delivery. I thought I would wake up to a delivery early this morning. Nothing. No show and not even the courtesy of a call. We paid $25 per yard plus $30 delivery charge. I called them this morning and was told the guys got back late last night and that they would be busy all day so they wouldn't deliver until late in the day. I told the woman I spoke to that I would cancel the order and have my husband come in to get his check back. She corrected me to say he paid by credit card. I said fine, he would come in to have the charges reversed. Her response was, "Okay, well yeah sorry 'bout that." It was an offhand comment and not a direct apology. I won't do business with people who do business like that. We always try to support local businesses, but this turned out to be a mistake. They are overpriced and unprofessional. So back a few years I gave these folks a piece of my mind and a 1 star review. I said then they were nice and did good work, but you can find "easily find someone else to do work in your yard". Turns out it's not always easy. After trying hire someone to do another job - a much bigger one, clearing a large section of overgrowth - I went thru 3 candidates who either didn't show, didn't have the capability or were otherwise no good. So I called Make a Difference, they gave me a very fair price and did the work in a day; I expected it would take 2-3 days. It turns out you can't easily find people who can do good landscaping. But these guys are reliable fair, and hardworking. I stand corrected. read more

DO NOT GET FALL CLEANUP with these people I was told over the phone the hourly rate per man was $48.00 which is high. BUT, the kicker was they also billed me $25.00 travel time and $50.00 dump fee which was insulting because they dumped half the cleanup behind my back yard. Also did a horrible job clipping hedges that I sent pictures of shoddy work and hedges that weren't cut at all. They deducted $50.00 from bill it was so bad, but still too much money for quality of work. I will never use again !! read more

His crew ran over my well head with heavy equipment despite the fact that I explicitly pointed out its location when he came for the initial site survey. The well pipe is now damaged and I can't extract the well pump because of it. His excuse is because the well head wasn't to code; 8" above ground level, ignoring the fact that I showed him the location and told him to avoid it. Unethical businessman. read more

They got done in a few hours what would have taken us a few months worth of weekends of hard work. So happy we called them! read more

I really hate to write this but my husband and I aren't to happy with the finished results. We hired Make a Difference Landscape to install an irrigation system an a walk way. To start with this was a 2 year old lawn that was flat! Let me start with the irrigation system, first of all they started the job a day after heavy rains, the perimeter of our yard was dug up with this machine they use to put the piping underground and this machine also left tracks makes thru out my new landscaping .The walkway although very nice is still in need of more silica sand. WE had Make a Difference come back and do the finish work and it looked just as bad when they finished! Maybe worse? they showed up in the rain??? The finished work was to throw loom over rocks that left huge mounds of dirt on both sides of the walkway and spray hyrdro seeds all over it, also the ruts were not made to look much better we were left with ruts and mounds all around the perimeter of the home where loom and seeds were thrown all around haphazardly! ON the walkway the guy poured mounds of this silica sand and didn't blend it in so I have hard mounds of sands on my $3000.00 walkway and it still has voids! This hole project was $6000.00. Shame on me for not looking into them further. My husband has already spent over a week reworking this whole project to make it look good. In my opinion they don't do finished work very well!
