i had a horrific experience! i went in for a cleaning. a few days later i was still in pain, i went in to have it checked out because this has never happened after a cleaning. i was expecting a simple in and out. the dr. came in and examined the next moment she stuck a needle in my mouth to numb me for a root canal. we never discussed a root canal ever! i had other appts! how dare you stick me with the needle without discussing this with me as i'm numbing. we didn't discuss price, my time, again i had other plans. i asked for another dr. he advised her she should never proceed with any procedure without discussing with the patient. i reported this office. i've never been back! horrible office! read more

I had a new patient appointment today with Dr. Brenner at 8am today. It's hard to give a review for a dentist that didn't show up. I was there an hour and 15 minutes. In that time, I was given a quote for a deep cleaning, explained I have gum disease (30+ year old woman, one cavity in my whole life, go to the dentist every 6-7 months (had to get a new dentist bc my previous one I had for years stop taking my insurance)). I was shown some slight redness in one area on one tooth. I also just had about 30 x-rays done and felt the redness could of been because of that. I have a shallow, small mouth I'm told and it took two people to attempt the x-rays. It wasn't pleasant but wasn't their fault. I had a handout with a quote of $300+ with insurance and a plan for the next year of my life and still hadn't even see the dentist. When they went to get him around 8:40ish, they were told he's not in until 9. My appointment was at 8. Make that make sense. Then at 9:10, he was still not there. I sat for almost a half hour doing nothing waiting for him. I finally said I need to leave at 9:15. I was then charged a copay fee and left. I won't be back. The only thing I will note is all the people I met their were beyond friendly but it's hard to go to a dentist and leave without seeing him, quote for $300+ care, and no cleaning which was the whole reason I went. Update: got a second opinion - no gum disease at all. They said I have very healthy gums and have no idea how anyone could state otherwise. read more

I wish I could give zero stars but I can't. This place does not deserve even 1. I took my son to The Dental Store in November 2022 for wisdom tooth extraction. I only chose this place because the oral surgeon was listed as a preferred provider with our insurance. I double-checked the insurance before going to the Dental Store and the administrator did the same. My son and I both found the oral surgeon to be arrogant, dismissive, and curt. I wish I had listened to my gut instinct and bailed after the initial consult. I pre-paid the full amount for the procedure and was told we were all paid up, before the surgery. Two months after the extraction my son came home from college with continued pain on one side. Our regular dentist said something looked wrong from the extraction and we needed to return to the oral surgeon. It turns out the surgeon had left bone fragments in my son's gums, which had become infected. We were told this was 'normal' for wisdom tooth extraction. But, I have never experienced this with my other children (who went to Dr. Kent Shinozaki in Arlington Heights who was WONDERFUL - go to him!), or myself, or anyone else I know. Months after the fragments and infection were finally corrected, I received a bill for the entire amount again. The cost was supposedly double the bill I had already paid, with no good explanation for the difference in cost, so many months later. Please do not go to The Dental Store for any dental work. Don't trust them with your dental health and do not trust their estimates! Please look elsewhere. This is a terrible establishment. As I mentioned, look into Dr. Kent Shinozaki in Arlington Heights for Oral Surgery instead of anyone at the Dental Store. Dr. Shinozaki was wonderful, thorough, caring and attentive. read more

Dr. Glenn Shulkin and his Staff (especially his Assistant Tammy and Hygenist Ana Alvaro) are truly amazing. I had crown replacement done today and it was such a great experience. From reviewing my situation and complexity, options i had (getting my new and so much better crown created right there in the office!) all done in less than 2 hours. I left witch such a relief, no pain, no anxiety, really loving my new crown and tooth overall feeling so much better. Thank you so so much for such a great care and such supportive support Staff that always make me feel so much better before i leave. Also im so happy doing my quarterly teeth cleanings for last 3 years - my gums and my teeth are now feeling better and healthier than ever! I scheduled an appointment with them on Emergency Dental Service the night before my appointment because I had a tooth ache. That night a representative took my credit card for the deposit. I received multiple confirmations + a text that morning saying my appointment has been confirmed. When I arrived the staff told me I do not have an appointment and the confirmations were NOT sent from them... When I tried to call them to get a refund for my deposit they told me to contact the 3rd party who I booked the appointment with. I tried calling them and no one has answered or responded to my emails. When I called to let them know that no one has refunded me the staff told me they do not have a direct line. Loved my old provider but they were a bit far. What a HUGE mistake. I scheduled a cleaning and first thing they wanted to do was take full mouth x-trays, which I questioned immediately- because they are not covered under insurance and my old dentist has my full mouth; dentists share these as common practice. I told the woman that I only wanted bite-wings, but she proceeded to still do full-mouth- which o DID NOT authorize. Then the hygienist came in and immediately said- oh we'll need to do your cleaning in two appointments. I said, why? Oh, that's normal practice for us since we like to do very thorough cleanings. I indicated no dentist has even done my cleaning in two separate appointments, and I have better oral hygiene than dentists due. I brush & floss 3 times a day. My cleanings never take more than 30 mins. Something seemed very fishy about this practice- and the fact that the place was literally empty. So as suspected they tried to charge me for full-mouth X-rays and tried to get me to schedule another cleaning appointment in a month, just so they could bill me out of pocket. I DONT care what anyone says. But Dr Alija and her main assistant are literally the best. Dr Alija has made me feel great. I am deadly terrified of going to the dentist. It is my biggest fear and I called around numerous places just to find someone like Dr. Alija. The Oral Surgeon Dr. Patrick is also phenomenal. As mentioned I'm scared of the dentist, so when it came to removing my wisdom teeth at the age of 30 he made it so much easier. I was crying in the chair ready to bolt, but Dr. Patrick talked me down and made sure I was in good hands. Also - quick note, Charlie at the front desk is great. He helps with billing and post opt instructions. But the man is super calm, patient about any questions or concerns and knows what he's doing. Whenever I call I always ask for him and he's amazing. All in all Im super glad I found them. Do not go there. At one point in time I went to this dentist. He told me I needed 5 crowns and root canals. I would leave there in tears. My mother convinced me to find another dentist. When I did I learned that several of the teeth he claimed needed crowns didn't even have cavities. It has been over 10 years but I have never forgotten them. I also met another person who told me they did the same. You are free to do what you want but I felt I should post on it. This was before Yelp existed but I was telling someone about it and thought I should see if this dentist is still in practice (have no idea how they are still doing it). There are better more ethical dentists out there and everyone deserves good honest service which this guy does not do. Complete scam artist and unethical. read more

My biggest complaint about them is their dentists are arrogant and seem to have no problem with publicly and vocally reprimanding patients for not taking proper care of their mouths. Went in for a couple cavities. Next thing I know the periodontitis tells me I need a skin graph because my gums are receding too much and my teeth would fall out if I don't get it taken care of right away. Many other dentists I've spoken to about this told me that was ridiculous and my gums were no where near that bad. After going through with that whole ordeal I went back for a deep cleaning. It was the most painful experience I've ever been through at a dentist. I would ask for most numbing gel and they would sigh, give me a quick swab, and immediately continue before the gel even started working. Finally, to top it all off I went back a few weeks later, once again for the cavities, and the dentist I saw told me I needed a deep cleaning. I told them I had it done and it was a terrible experience and they just said oh well they didn't do it right so we need to do it again. I will never go back to this place, they are just another commercial shop looking to con patients into extra procedures just so they can stuff their pockets. read more

I visited the Dental Store for a total of 5 visits: - Preconsultation for dentist for wisdom teeth removal - Preconsultation with surgeon for wisdom teeth removal - Wisdom Teeth Removal - Follow Up - Checkup My previous dentist confirmed I had a soft spot on one of my wisdom teeth that needed watching (as it was likely to progress into a cavity). I also had another wisdom tooth that broke due to bad positioning. He recommended I have my wisdom teeth removed. Had a change of job, moved, and new insurance. Before the surgery I had a full x-ray. Makese sense. Surgery went ok, even though I did wake up during it. I thumped my fist on the chair, they noticed, and put me back under. Not a great experience, not a bad one, hey it's wisdom teeth removal. Not going to be pleasant. The negative score is for the dental checkup after the surgery. The assistant came in to take xrays. She didn't explain what she was going to do or why she was taking x rays, she just started ordering me about. The items she made me bite onto hurt and I was crying, and she didn't stop to check in on me. I was also angry as it seemed like repeat xrays they didn't need, and I hadn't consented to have them taken or been informed of what was going to happen. My insurance denied coverage as the xrays were "duplicate". The full xray I received before my surgery is considered a higher quality xray then the piece by piece set they did afterward. The xrays were 30 days a part. Next, the denist (Scott Mccarty) came in, didn't speak to me, poked around my mouth speaking to his assistant and ignored me. He then told me he was going to fill 10 of my teeth, at two appointments, and that I needed to schedule a follow up for the first batch. I was not shown any of the xrays that had been taken. I do no know which teeth needed to be filled as I wasn't shown. Contrast with my previous dentist: He had me hold a mirror and showed me where the soft spot in my wisdom tooth (now removed) had been. He showed me the xrays of my teeth. These are normal things dentists do. That wasn't done with me here, and it made me too umcomfortable to continue. Informed consent is the idea that you share decision making with a patient. There has to be an explanation of both the recommendation AND any alternatives. The procedures need to be explained before they are done. It's a critical piece of the doctor/patient relationship, and one I take very seriously. I don't feel any measure of informed consent took place at my visit. My consent was never sought, nothing was explained, and I was just told what to do. I'd highly recommend getting a second opinion rather than following a treatment plan here. There is a philosophy that dental decay should be treated by aggressive filling. Once a tooth it filled, it has to be replaced every time the filling fails (and it will fail eventually). This sets up a lifetime of repeat fillings. Composite fillings can fail within 5 years per WebMD. I left using an excuse I would need to reschedule later as I had reached my insurance maximum (true). Update: The second opinion I received is that I have staining in my teeth due to my coffee habit, and the beginning of some decay, but not on 10 teeth. I'm adjusting my brushing and flossing habits, and we're "watching and waiting" rather than filling. read more

I used to really like the Dental Store, but after a series of different events I decided to take my business elsewhere. The last was the one that ticked me off the most. 1) Oral surgeon was only available for consultation during midday business hours, which is hard when you work the standard 8-5 job. I had to take PTO in order to make the appointment, which is non-redeemable at my work. On my lunch break they call me and leave a voicemail that the Dr cancelled the appointment. I explained how mad I was they wasted my PTO when I called them back. Then, when I took my afternoon PTO time to go see a friend, they call me again to say the appointment was back on, but I had already made other arrangements and was no where near their office at that point. 2) The hygienist I liked left the organisation. The new hygienist was my wife's hygienist and she was very nice and competent and a good conversationalist, but then the dentist I liked also left. 3) I got automated calls, texts, and phone calls to confirm my appointments. I would confirm through one of the avenues, but then I would continue to get the reminders. I don't mind a reminder or single confirmation, but I don't like getting hit from multiple angles instead of using a single preferred method of confirmation. 4) I went to continue with my regularly scheduled appointment and I once again confirmed in text, but then got a confirmation call from the office too. At the end of the call, they off-handed mentioned there would be an additional fee for scheduling during COVID. That was the nail in the coffin. I told them I would not pay for something that is not my fault and they could not bother to schedule me or the rest of my family anymore. Instead, I just found a new dentist not taking advantage of cash scrapped people during a time of a national emergency. I'm sure no one else will protest this business just due to my comments here, but I wish their customers would speak up and tell them to stick it until they dropped the fee. I absolutely love this place. Every single person I come in contact with is pleasant and accommodating. I admit that I am not one of those people that go to the dentist regularly like I should and because of that I feel embarrassed and ashamed of myself sometimes. Not one person has ever made me feel self conscious or made me feel uncomfortable with the services I get. They are big on education there which is very important to me. Also they are completely transparent with the estimated costs of services PRIOR to recieved treatments which is just as important. They do not push any services on you that you arent interested in and what's most important is this place is a one stop shop.. you truly can't beat all of these pro's. Albeit, I have only had two visits to the Dental store, I was super impressed with the staff and facility. Everyone from the receptionist, hygenist, dentist, etc. were all very respectful, nice, transparent, and professional. My initial visit was exceptionally thorough, light years ahead of any dentist office I've ever been too, with numerous checks, x-rays, and pictures. I started coming back to the Dental Store after a few years do to retiring and obtaining Dental Insurance. The changes since my last visit seemed minimal. Dr Tovar who I liked and felt at ease with was gone. The Hygenist was very good. The Dr that I did see ( can't remember her name) seemed arrogant and kept talking about a crown for a tooth with a filling. Being 70 years old, I would sooner have the tooth pulled. I had to cancel a appointment the morning of due to a Military Disability injury that flared up the evening before. When I called to cancel Mary who sounded like I woke her up said they had to charge me for the missed appointment because I didn't give the a 24 hour notice. I'll try to make certain my back doesn't go out less than 24 hours from appointment. Today I got the bill for missed appointment. I will not pay the bill and I'll find another Dentist. Took my 7 year old son here since MetLife approved this Dentist. Appointment was for 1PM. He didn't get seen until 1:30PM. Very hard on a kid. The hygienist was awesome. She was very good. She did mention and showed me where my kiddo was having trouble with plaque. Then I met the Dentist. She judged me by my appearance. I have tattoos, and assumed that I never took my kid to a dentist before. I assured her that my husband and I have been taking him to the dentist since he was 3. Then she judged the plaque based on the medications I listed he is taking that are life saving medications. I told her, "You don't want to see him unmedicated." Then she asked for my name. The rest of the appointment went ok. He got his teeth cleaned. She said, he grinds his teeth. I ordered a mouth card for kids from Amazon. Then she said it looks like stomach acid is eroding is teeth. I'm kind of confused. But I will call his Pediatrician. read more

Okay, these guys saved my life on Christmas Eve! I was in excruciating pain, and they did not for a minute make the date and timing a big deal or an issue at all. They knew I needed to get in, and they did not hesitate to tell me to come on! Dr. Gianni was sympathetic and thorough. The staff was caring, upbeat, friendly, and likable. I came in as a new patient and from the moment I walked in to the time i walked out, the staff was wonderful. Dr. Glenn, Tammy and Dr. Lubar were all beyond great. When I asked about how the pain would be for the procedure, Tammy reassured me that everything would be ok and that I was in good hands. I'd gone to the Dental Store for many years starting in 2006. They are still, hands down, the most competent & professional dentists I've ever had. Dr Glenn, who is fantastic, was pretty much my primary but I did see others & their Ortho as well. My daughter had braces. Loved her ortho! But, high change over rate with an assistant. Assistants also put a hand in my daughter's mouth without the supervision of an Orthodontist, that's not legal. Two weeks before her braces were to come off the ortho we had been seeing for two years was gone and poof, a NEW ONE. what a way to close 2 years up, no warning. My hygienist, Tonya, was so knowledgeable and really cares about her patients and listens to their needs. The front desk staff is amazing as well!
