Thanks to Yelp I found this place during a day trip to Newport. It was located just down the side street from another of my go-to spots, Obrien's, which was perfect. I decided to try the lobster roll (Newport Style) after reading the other reviews and I was not disappointed. $17 for a lobster roll is pretty average.. there were big chunks of claw meat, it was very light on the sauce and served on a buttered toasted hot dog bun. Obviously I only wish it had been bigger but I did love the fact that the sauce was simple and there were not any chopped up pieces of celery or anything like that (blechh!) I would definitely recommend this place and would love to return and try some other things on the menu. read more

So I was introduced to a place called the deck! We sat at a table overlooking the harbor and our waiter Ken came over to welcome us!! He had me at hello!! It is not to often that you have a server become a friend at the snap of his fingers!! We ordered mussels and wings then dinner!! The food was absolutely amazing and what really got me was every employee was willing to help!! I was lucky to meet the owner and let her know we will always be customers!! Seemed like a cool casual place to grab drinks on a big deck overlooking Newport harbor (nice view). There were people playing cornhole on the deck which looked fun. We went for a group dinner and were originally sat at an outdoor table that was considered part of the dining room, which was basically in an alley way right next to the bathrooms and no view at all. We asked to be sat on the deck so we could enjoy the view - and there is a different menu (much more casual/basic) out there. We were warned of that before being moved so I'm not saying we were misled, but just reiterating that you wouldn't want to sit on the deck for a nice meal. Out of the already limited "deck menu" they were out of 5 main things. The food we did order was average, not bad but not great either. If you want a nice meal on the water you'll want to go elsewhere. If you want a super casual meal or just some drinks or apps on the water, this place is perfectly fine for that! read more

Other than a sunset or view why bother...Drinks are ridiculously small, pub food is absolutely inedible, and the prices for the indoor menu are outrageous. We were told to grab a table by the bartender and then scolded by the hostess for the table we choose because it had been reserved for several hours later that night. We were looking for a place near the water off Thames St it was cool and very noisy at the outside bar so we tried the inside restaurant. The bar there was fairly busy but the dining room was empty! This was around 6 PM so not too surprising. We ordered oysters which were small but good, muscles which were delicious and pasta with Bolognese meat sauce. That was terrible. No flavor, the meat was chunky and tasted like soap. Our waiter was great and listened to our negative comments very politely. Okay so we visited the deck tonight, we were hesitant. The deck was definitely off the beaten path (especially in the dead of winter). We travelled 6 hours from NY in a blizzard yesterday in hopes of some good food. I went ahead and convinced him to try it considering the high ratings here on yelp. The wine was great, we had a delicious Pinot noir, the fisher and chowder was fantastic and our food was awesome. I had the swordfish (which can definitely be over cooker and dry) but it was moist and flavorful and he had the filet mignon on the bone which was tender and flavorful. The service was great, the waitress delivered great service and made us very confident in our selections and the food came out quickly without feeling we were rushed. Again, we were hesitant at first by I definitely think we would come back again next time we are Newport. read more

This restaurant is not following RI Covid protocols. When we arrived, no one on the floor was wearing masks except the hostess. We ask her if they should be (because if they were not, we didn't feel comfortable eating there and would leave). She said they were and the soon put masks on, however the food runner delivered our food without a mask. We told our waiter who responded "what do you want me to do about it," and told me the table next to me wasn't wearing masks - but they were 6 feet away and not handling our food so I didn't think that was an issue. I told the manager who said they were following RI protocols and I was told that I should stay home if I was that concerned. Also the food is horrible. I guess people go here because of the dock?? Quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences I've had in recent memory and undoubtedly the most expensive bad food I've had in a long time. The mussels were terriblely flavored with tough mystery meat and half of the did not open (meaning not fresh). The seafood chowder tastes like how Seaworld smells...like rotten fish. I had a Mediterranean inspired pasta that I had to place my plate on an angle to drain edible bites out of the 1/2 cup of olive oil sitting on the bottom. People in my party had the beet salad which had soggy/rotten arugala and too much dressing, the penne vodka which was actually pasta Bolognese (we sent it back and they brought back out the same) and a tough meat dish. The service was terrible and we were left trying to organize our dinner plates around stacks of dirty dishes that weren't removed the entire time we were at the table. Finally, the drinks were garbage, either overly sweet or served with obviously watered-down liquor. All this at RIDICULOUS prices. Oh and someone in our party is now disputing charges after a bartender charged her card FIVE times for 1 drink. Don't go here unless you are punishing yourself read more

Honestly, I had a good time at the deck until one of their waitresses kept giving my friends and I really harsh, judgemental, and rude glares. I'm not sure what her name is because she was not our waiter, but I would highly suggest training the staff on how to be more pleasant, even from a distance. Drinks were good, but it is important to note that covid-19 regulations are not being fully enforced to the extent in which they are expected. Totally misrepresented themselves, a beach pub trying to play at giving a fine dining experience. Food was not that great. Made advance dinner reservations that clearly stated it was for our anniversary - the deck called me to confirm, so I know they got the memo...not to mention there were other celebrations going on around us - but the establishment totally made ZERO effort! Came to Newport with my boyfriend for the weekend and chose The Deck as our first dinner spot. We got the steak frites (but substituted the fries for a salad) and the penne alla vodka. The steak was very well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and they provided plenty salad. You could totally tell the penne alla vodka was fresh and homemade, it was absolutely delicious. Absolutely love this place! It's in a great location and has outdoor seating with an amazing water view. The food is great- they have an extensive menu ranging from burgers and fries to lobster and steaks. I got the mussels and my boyfriend got the chicken picatta. We also got drinks- the frozen Miami vice is out of this world. Everyone that works there is super nice. Definitely one of my favorite places to grab lunch or dinner in Newport. read more

Food was sub par. Hostesses are all snots that don't know what they're doing. We had made reservations for a saturday night at 6pm for 4 people (bachelorette party). We got there and the hostess told us we HAD to sit inside and they didn't take reservations for outside. I told them to forget that we made a reservation and we wanted to sit outside...she said no and that all the tables were booked. There were about 10 open tables and how could they possibly be booked if they didn't take reservations for outside? We sat down inside and I asked another hostess if we could move outside and she said there was a private party going on outside and then she started talking to another hostess and completely ignored me. I let it go. We then went outside after dinner to get a drink on the patio at the bar (still 10 + tables of 4 available). We finished out drinks and went to go inside to use the bathroom and the hostess told us NO and we had to use a different bathroom outside (which was completely disgusting). After seeing the outside bathroom I told the hostess that we will absolutely be using the inside bathroom after just spending $300 on an INSIDE dinner. She didn't really agree but by that point I didn't care. The manager then came and introduced herself to me and tried to stick up for her hostesses but I was completely enraged at that point and thought it was ridiculous that they wouldn't let us use the inside bathroom after eating inside and about the reservation issue. She said it was a private party outside and that's why we couldn't sit outside but no one was talking to each other outside and there were still lots of tables open so she was obviously lying. I told her that she needs to hire people who know what's going on and to ask patrons if they want inside or outside seating when they call for a reservation. Easy Fix. Moral of the story....ask to be seated outside when making a reservation and don't take no for an answer. read more

My husband and I had a late lunch there on July 3 2016. We sat outside on the deck and both ordered Lobster Rolls and beer. The atmosphere is great! Fun, lively outside deck with views of the marina and ocean. The Lobster Roll, not as great. For $23.00 I would expect a decent portion of Lobster meat. Definitely not worth the money. But the biggest thing was that while we were eating the wind picked up a little bit and while I was looking down eating my food the table umbrella fell and hit me right in the head. The table next to us had to help us get the umbrella back up. The umbrella was not secured to the table and upon looking at the other deck tables, none of them were. We notified the waitress who brought over the manager. They gave me an ice pack and some Ibuprofen but we ended up cutting our day trip short because of my headache that wouldn't go away. The manager (Reggie) came over and I filled out an incident report. A witness from the table next to us also wrote a statement. My biggest complaint is the disappointment that we saw when we got the bill and we were expected to pay in full. I'm not one to try and get a free meal but it would have been appreciated if Reggie, the manager, had at least comped us our meal or given us something. I left there with a bump and bruise on my head that was sore for over a week. The Deck didn't even offer us anything. I contacted The Deck via e-mail and explained the situation and our disappointment about the whole situation. I contacted them about 2 weeks ago or so and never received a response from anyone. So, if you go to The Deck and decide to sit outside; watch out for the table umbrellas! read more

I am giving this a one star for the view only. My two friends and I sat at the bar today and literally the bartender was the most miserable person. He should not be working with the public. We ordered beers and trying to joke with him said can we see a smile. Long story short he didn't ask us for refills was rude to me right in front of the manager. The manager said nothing. The bartender had tattoos and a smug look. I told the bartender after he bad mouthed my friends right in front of the manager that I would not be back service was bad he told the manager we heckled him to smile and pay the bill and leave. Really u work with the public buddy. I am apauled at the lack of respect to there customers and will spread the word to pick somewhere else. Giving it a 1 star because there's nothing less to give. I've lived in Newport for 42yrs and have been in the restaraunt business for 24 yrs . I've never dealt with such a smug cocky bartender. Bartender had dark black and white sunglasses on with a baseball cap (Sunday afternoon) and me and my 2 friends sat at the bar as it was unusually slow. You'd think he would've been pleasant to atleast have business. I jokingly said Smile, it's not that bad and he proceeded by saying "You should've been here Friday and Saturday, I was smiling then. It's been a busy weekend!) Oh, OK.. You chose those hours, you suck it up and remain pleasant and polite because THATS YOUR JOB!!! Pretty sad when a 70+ yr old woman sitting next to us said, what's his problem? He's miserable! Anyway, I will never ever waste a dollar at The Deck again!!! Smile!!! Let me start off with saying that I don't leave negative reviews without giving the establishment a chance to right the wrong. I wanted to LOVE this restaurant so badly. The location is amazing and they had a fantastic band playing. This place has the potential to be something really special. I made a reservation a week in advance for my sister's bachelorette dinner. There were seven of us. We just wanted to have a nice dinner on the water. The person on the phone then said that the pastry chef makes an excellent "adult cake" and that they bring it out with a sparkler. I was so impressed that he offered and when I asked what the charge would be for that he said that it would be complementary since we were a large group. He said he had to double check that. I was very excited and planned on having dessert at the restaurant instead of ordering something separately for after at our hotel. The day before the reservation, the hostess called to confirm our reservation. I told them we were very excited and asked if they had checked on the pricing for the cake just so I could prepare the other bridesmaids who were splitting the bill. She said she had not and that someone would call back. The next morning, someone called back and said that it would be $40 for the cake. I agreed. They then called back again to get confirmation on the cake saying that it needed to be put in the oven. I told them we definitely wanted the cake. 30 minutes later the hostess calls back and says the pastry chef isn't there and they can't do the cake. I asked to speak to the manager, wondering what had happened in the 30 minutes since I last spoke to someone. He told me that the chef had an emergency and had to go. He assured me that they had other fantastic desserts and would still bring it out with a big sparkler. I told him that was fine and just wanted to do something for the bride. We got to the restaurant and had a beautiful table on the water. I was a little nervous because things seemed very unorganized on the phone, but had high hopes. 20 mins later, NOBODY had come to our table to greet us or take drink orders. We had to ask the hostess to send someone. The server they sent was inexperienced and unfriendly. Our appetizers were small and over priced. We had to AGAIN go to the hostess to get the waiter back to our table to take our dinner order. We had to practically beg for him to bring us plates, silverware, and water. At this point, I went to speak to the manager. He was very apologetic and told us he'd bring us a round of drinks. He brought over a tightly covered bottle of champagne and poured us each a quarter of a glass. The food at dinner was mediocre. We had to ask SEVERAL times for another drink order and was told that we couldn't have mixed drinks because "it will take too long." For this reason he would ONLY give us a beer menu. When we asked for more napkins, we were given a stack of cocktail napkins. To end the night we were NEVER given dessert. No special dessert, no sparklers...NOTHING. He instead brought the bill that had several extra charges on it that had to be corrected. Finally, we just paid the extra amount just to get out of there. I was mortified that I had brought my sister and the entire wedding party to this place. I was so disappointed at how poorly the entire evening was handled. Went with 2 other girls on a Friday night, 2 of us got charged a $10 cover and the 3rd got charged $20 because of the 10:59/11pm cover change. SO RIDICULOUS. 1 minute difference and we were in a group of 3. The bouncer could have waited until the next group of people behind us. Not only was the bouncer rude but after I complained I was directed to a manager who brought me to the owner. The owner was extremely arrogant and rudely pulled a $20 bill out of his wallet and told us NOT TO COME BACK. Mind you, we are LOCALS and work in the industry. I am disgusted with the ownership/management and do not recommend wasting your money on a cover to be served warm canned beers and watered-down vodka served in kiddy cups. trust me, they water down their liquor, we have friends that work there. Lively outdoor bar near the docks in Newport. Don't think I've ever seen so many Lily Pulitzer-clad women, twinsets and strands of pearls in one place! West Deck boasts somewhat of a more mature crowd than some of the bars in this area. Drinks? Well they don't come easy... expect to take 30 minutes to close out your tab. After living in Newport I will tell you straight up, if you are looking for the total culinary experience you will not forget, you must make reservations at the West Deck. Sit at a cozy table or at the counter and watch master chefs create wonderful and fancy lamb dishes. The food is delicious, hot, fantastic. It is a culinary experience. Never mind the outdoor bar where it is loud and full of party people-it is completely the opposite scene inside. Completely the opposite scene inside. Dress up and get ready to have a sophisticated, delicious, serious meal. From every part of this restaurant, you will see the room light up from the flames of what's on the gas burners. There are only 4 restaurants in Newport that are my favorites in order when it comes to excellent dinner food quality: -West Deck -Golds (technically Middletown) -Candy Store and Clarke Cooke House -Salvation Cafe read more

Place was dirty. Empty tables hadn't been cleared nor cleaned. Staff hanging around at front reception podium. Ordered a Rose wine, arguably one of the more popular styles on summer. Horrible. I was served a sparkling liquid. Had reservations, clearly not needed, for dinner. Inside was dark and somewhat dingy. We chose the outside patio. Music was decent. Food arrived. Salad sized for a small rabbit. Shrimp just ok. Steak arrived precut and rare, not medium or even medium rare. Potatoes out of a bag. Not impressed and won't return. I used to love this place however went Sunday afternoon and received the worst service ever by the bartender. It was a slower Sunday than most and my friends and I ordered 3 beers. He never came back to ask us for refills ( if he did... we would have stayed and later 5 more people showed up) and then proceeded to talk poorly of my friend and I as we left. I commented to the manager on my way out that the service was the worst I had ever received and his response was really? Sorry. The bartender proceeded to say Well they ONLY ordered Beer,.,,,,, I didn't realize I had to order 12$ drinks to receive good service, I will Never go here again,.,,,, being local... your bartender is giving the rest of us locals in any type of customer service industry a bad rep. read more

If I could give negative stars I would!! This is my first one star review and it was earned! At first we were off to a good start they carried my fave wine! Cake bread cellars!! Everything went downhill after that! We had a party of four adults and two kids. Long story short the food for two of them people never came and then when it did show up more than an hour later the waiter said ta-da like it was magic or something. The managers were just as bad. I have never received such poor service in my life. I come to newport often and have family there we will never return and tell our friends not to either! read more

This is the place for lunch in Newport. The lobster rolls here are out of this world. You can choose between mayo or butter ones. The lobster is plentiful and tasty....worth every penny! Skip the regular fries and go for the sweet potato ones instead. read more

We found this place by accident on a Saturday afternoon - walked towards another place we could see from the road, then saw a sign to the right that said "Most interesting deck bar right here" or something like that, and we liked the idea. Not busy at all, we were 4 patrons to the other 3. Bartender made us heavy-pour "girlie" drinks involving rums, juices, etc. and they were delicious. Bar stools are in the shade but the ladies wanted some sun so we sat on the chaise lounges overlooking the water - so relaxing! Watched the boats come and go, then a young man came and set up a hot dog cart that offered chilled shrimp cocktail or oysters on the half shell. After a few quiet, relaxing hours we left and walked past all the other crazy-busy-crowded waterfront places. So glad we chose The Deck. read more

On a warm summer night there's nothing better than drinks outdoors with the smell of the sea wafting in the breeze. An outdoor bar that's mellow by day and often packed at night, @ The Deck is probably the liveliest scene on the water. In season they have a DJ and a good sized crowd. read more

I having been boating and staying at Westwind Marina for 6 or 7 years. I have been here for drinks. Drinks with lunch. Drinks with lunch then dinner. Finally last night we (20 of us) ventured inside for a DINNER. It was beyond amazing. The staff and chef were outstanding. The food was outstanding and the service with a broad smile exceptional!!! All of the above while a cat 1 hurricane was hitting us.
