    Gluten free fish and chips
    Rachel O.

There's something really special about Parlor Bar & Kitchen. Walking in to the Parlor for the first time felt like walking on to the set of an early 2000's sitcom set in a neighborhood bar. The bartender (owner in disguise) was so charismatic & welcoming from the jump; the cool girl energy just radiated off of her. It was a quiet Tuesday evening, & it seemed like everyone sitting at the bar knew the owner & the owner knew them. That's the real Newport. That's the Newport I like. I was delighted to see that the menu had allergens clearly marked & that SO many things could be made gluten-free by request, including the fish & chips. Gluten-free fish & chips! Be still my heart. Parlor is officially a member of the very exclusive gluten-free fish & chips club - which includes only 3 other restaurants I've found in my travels. That's a big deal. My meal was paired excellently with a glass of Woodford & good company. As if this spot couldn't get any better, I noticed two pool tables in the back. I didn't have the chance to play a game this time, but I will certainly be back to change that. This place secured an immediate spot in my heart. Delicious, gluten-free food, wonderful feminine energy behind the bar, a true neighborhood feel, & pool tables. What more could I possibly ask for? It's my dream haunt. Thank you for having me at your bar. 6/5 stars.

Loved my meal here, I enjoyed the seasonal peach and tomato burrata salad with a peach mule. The mule was flavorful but not served in the typical mug and it lacked a formal garnish, for a $14 drink it should've been more sophisticated. If I returned I doubt I would order a cocktail again. The salad was divine, I would eat this all day every day, it is not part of the regular menu but is a wonderful summer addition. The chicken sandwich was fine, rather tame and mild. I would've liked to see some house made pickles or something to elevate the flavor. Overall, this was a good spot it wouldn't take much to improve. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service and decor were good as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This is my new favorite restaurant in Newport.. [[HIGHLIGHT]]always has amazing live music including a 16 piece brass band that plays the last Tuesday of the month.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. we had great calamari, coconut curry mussels a chicken sandwich to die for and the carrots on whipped feta with arugula and walnuts was heaven.

What an eclectic bar offering pub food which includes a range of gluten free options! Our bartender's easygoing personality immediately made us feel welcome even though we arrived close to 10 to eat food. She had us laughing and easily engaged us in conversation. This cozy bar boasts two pool tables in the back, perfect for getting your game on! Thanks for a great experience!

Stopped here after a yelp event for drinks. Our bartender was awesome so fun and made great drinks!! I'll be looking for the fountain of youth on the menu :) I didn't eat but my friend got the fish and chips which were made gluten free and she enjoyed it, they have pool tables in the back. Definitely a fun spot for a drink and some pool

My first stop during a recent visit to Newport and what an awesome warm welcome! I arrived on a Sunday and this great spot was a few steps from my Airbnb. I asked to grab a seat at the bar and enjoyed a glass of pinot grigio and their really tasty cauliflower appetizer. I was starving and and still brought home leftovers - I HIGHLY recommend giving this an order no matter what. The staff here is so welcoming and easy going, and the owner was even kind enough to give me some recommendations of other adventures to try as I bopped about town. The space itself is beautifully appointed and would be ideal for a date night or group meal of any kind. Thanks to the entire team here for an amazing Newport welcome!

I love this place! Certainly they have really incredible food, much better than most places I've been in Newport. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have a really cool second bar and dance floor and stage area and lots of times there's really good local live music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Especially the last Tuesday of the month I believe they have like a 15-piece brass band it's incredible![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My friend and I popped in for dinner at this nice spot. She lives around the block so it offered us a nice pre and post meal stroll. It has a welcoming vibe as a local 'watering hole' with delicious food and welcoming staff. They offer daily specials and plenty of space to enjoy a bite with the family, a conversation with a friend, or a solo adventure at the bar. I want to return during colder weather to enjoy a cocktail by the fireplace, which is a little area.

They said we could still eat there, but we'd lose our ability to dine outdoors. We weren't about to lose out on everything, so we agreed to the terms. Normally, I would've been upset, but I figured something was better than nothing, and this was our only shot at getting something. We were both really glad we went there because dining indoors was lovely, and we still had a great view of the bay. The food was delicious, we walked around outside after our meal, so we didn't feel like we lost out on any aspect of our lunch. It was just rearranged. We both ordered lobster rolls, which came with French fries. The lobster roll was incredibly overstuffed with lots of beautiful lobster meat. It was impressive to see and even better to bite into. The lobster was sweet and succulent and loads of it, surrounded by a buttery brioche bun. Fabulous !! It was a wonderful first meal of our vacation, so we were off to a great start. We decided to split dessert and ordered their lemon meringue tart. It was so pretty, and it tasted even better. It was a beautiful day when we went there... not too hot nor humid. This place is known for a whole slew of adirondack chairs laid out on the inn's "hill." It was quite crowded when we were there. Very popular spot. I'm so glad we opted to have our lunch indoors at this famous inn at Castle Hill. We loved it.

The waterfront views are stunning, the service was exceptional, and the entire experience lived up to the buzz. Autumn was my waitress and she was wonderful. It's rare to find a restaurant that's as beautiful as the photos, worth the price, and actually exceeds expectations--but this one does. The oysters were incredibly fresh, the lobster was massive and tender, and the clam chowder was easily one of the best I've ever had. If the weather is nice, definitely request a table outside. The views alone are worth it. I'd absolutely come back.

From the moment you walk in, the place is spotless. The windows practically sparkle, the bathrooms are arguably the cleanest in Newport (a detail that never goes unnoticed), and the décor? Absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship alone, especially the woodwork is worth admiring before you even glance at the menu. Speaking of which, the food is consistently excellent, but what truly sets Jo's apart is the service. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, yet incredibly attentive. It feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into someone's home, if that someone also happens to serve fantastic meals. The staff are genuinely warm, friendly, and engaging. You can tell they enjoy what they do, they're laughing, smiling, and connecting with guests in a way that feels authentic. That kind of culture starts from the top, so hats off to the management for creating such a positive environment. Thank you again for another amazing dinner, I'm already looking forward to my next visit this fall.

The star of the dinner was the beef tartare, surprisingly. It was extremely flavorful, with all sorts of spices mixed into the beef, notably capers and cornichons. Delicious and served with amazing homemade potato chips. Service was good and dress code was more relaxed than I had imagined, so that was nice as well. Bread pudding and Tavern Candy Bar are delightful dessert options as well.

We got to dine outdoors but in a covered setting. The menu had my favorite foods, all food was impeccable, and I was there celebrating my 20th anniversary with my husband. Our trip was all about our anniversary, and we celebrated every day and night doing our favorite things... sightseeing, relaxing and eating fabulous food. It started with some great bread service. We then ordered two appetizers... stuffed artichokes and crispy calamari. The grilled artichokes were stuffed with spinach and pecorino romano cheese and drenched in a green goddess sauce. It was very tasty. The calamari came with 3 different peppers tossed throughout. The calamari had a thicker batter than we typically get, but it still tasted quite good, maybe with a zip of spiciness added, too. I think we just prefer a lighter, more tempura-like batter, but we still kept eating it. As for our entree, we actually split one order of the rack of lamb. Each rack was 8 oz., maybe more. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and we had more than enough meat for each of us to eat. We ordered a Bearnaise sauce to go with it. Ironically, as much as I love a good Bearnaise, I ended up eating the lamb without it because it was prepared so well on its own. We also ordered a trio of sides... their mashed potatoes, which were so creamy and buttery (my mouth is watering now just thinking about them), as well as mushrooms and asparagus, both of which were so well seasoned. This was a meal fit for a king and queen, to be sure... and certainly, for an anniversary celebration. Last but not least, no celebratory meal can end without dessert, so we ordered their chocolate mousse cake. It looked gorgeous as we saw other tables ordering it, so that was enough for us to want it. It definitely was as incredible as it looked. A perfect ending to a magnificent meal. Such a great way to close out the last evening in Newport and first stop on our 12-day anniversary road trip. I so wish we lived closer, and if I have anything to say about it, someday we'll return, but in the meantime, thanks for the great memories.

Ambiance: 5/5 This is what carries the place. An elite spot in Newport, Rhode Island with fantastic vibes. The location and atmosphere are just exceptional. Five out of five, no question. Service: 2/5 Not what you'd expect at this price point. Drinks took a while, and we never got bread while other tables did. The waiter wasn't rude, but at a premium steakhouse, I expect premium service. Simple as that. Food: 3/5 My wife and I ordered the New York strip, two lobster tails, lobster bisque, and a side of asparagus. The lobster bisque was fantastic -- loaded with lobster, incredibly tasty. My wife called it a top five lobster bisque she's ever had. Only knock was it wasn't piping hot when it arrived. The lobster tails were the star of the show. Truly excellent -- warm lobster butter, cooked perfectly. But I'll be honest, you're in the lobster capital of the world. I expect that. Other restaurants in Newport probably deliver the same. The New York strip was disappointing. I ordered medium rare and it came out closer to medium well. For a $55 steak at a place known for their steaks, that is simply not acceptable. The cut itself wasn't impressive either. I've been to great steakhouses around the world and this does not belong in that conversation. Overall: 3/5 Come here for the vibes -- it's a genuinely great date night spot in one of the most beautiful settings in New England. The food is good but expensive, and the service needs work. What gets them through is their location and atmosphere, and they know tourists will come and pay the premium regardless. If you're expecting an elite steakhouse experience, look elsewhere. If you're expecting a beautiful night out in Newport, you'll leave happy.
