There's something really special about Parlor Bar & Kitchen. Walking in to the Parlor for the first time felt like walking on to the set of an early 2000's sitcom set in a neighborhood bar. The bartender (owner in disguise) was so charismatic & welcoming from the jump; the cool girl energy just radiated off of her. It was a quiet Tuesday evening, & it seemed like everyone sitting at the bar knew the owner & the owner knew them. That's the real Newport. That's the Newport I like. I was delighted to see that the menu had allergens clearly marked & that SO many things could be made gluten-free by request, including the fish & chips. Gluten-free fish & chips! Be still my heart. Parlor is officially a member of the very exclusive gluten-free fish & chips club - which includes only 3 other restaurants I've found in my travels. That's a big deal. My meal was paired excellently with a glass of Woodford & good company. As if this spot couldn't get any better, I noticed two pool tables in the back. I didn't have the chance to play a game this time, but I will certainly be back to change that. This place secured an immediate spot in my heart. Delicious, gluten-free food, wonderful feminine energy behind the bar, a true neighborhood feel, & pool tables. What more could I possibly ask for? It's my dream haunt. Loved my meal here, I enjoyed the seasonal peach and tomato burrata salad with a peach mule. The mule was flavorful but not served in the typical mug and it lacked a formal garnish, for a $14 drink it should've been more sophisticated. If I returned I doubt I would order a cocktail again. The salad was divine, I would eat this all day every day, it is not part of the regular menu but is a wonderful summer addition. The chicken sandwich was fine, rather tame and mild. I would've liked to see some house made pickles or something to elevate the flavor. Overall, this was a good spot it wouldn't take much to improve. The service and decor were good as well. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday evening, and waited for someone to return to the hostess station. When she arrived, she said that we could sit anywhere we'd like because they weren't busy. My wife opted for a booth in the bar, for some reason. One of the bartenders came out to our booth about 5 minutes later. I ordered the lumpia to start, and were told that it was being put in now. About 10 minutes later, we placed our orders - My wife requested the butter poached cod bake, and I ordered the house burger, medium, with cheddar. Nearly 40 minutes later, our meals arrived, but there was still no sign of the lumpia. The bartender said that she would put the order in and comp it for us, which was a nice gesture. Meanwhile, my wife asked me to taste her cod, because she had a bit of a cold and thought that it was affecting her sense of taste. Nope. The cod, which was covered in brown & green herbed panko & Ritz cracker crumbs, was nearly flavorless. There was no butteriness, nor any herb flavor to be had. The vegetables fared better, although the poor Brussels sprouts were nearly incinerated. The grilled carrots were decent though. My burger was charred, but still pretty rare for a medium burger. It had a rich, beefy flavor, and was just dripping with fat. The shoestrings were crunchy & cold. We finally received the lumpia, which were saturated in grease. There was a generous amount of pork in them, but no vegetables to speak of to cut through the fat. Since that was the first item which caught my eye on the menu, I was particularly disappointed in that. Service was a bit lacking, mostly because the bartender was working every corner of the bar and restaurant, while the runner mostly stood around in the bar area. Ate here Friday night of jazz fest weekend. Food was very good, and the host (Christina??) was amazing -- I watched the way she took care of customers, and she was great (I told her so). Also worked out that we were "in the right place at the right time" to catch some great music at an otherwise sold-out show. BUT the service was poor. After asking the server 2x for water I got up and got it myself, and on the way back made a point of telling her that I got the water myself. She then came over to the table and offered a lame excuse that she had a big table (so what!!!!). And after that she continued to ignore us (other than the one time she took another drink order). Definitely reduced this to a 3-4-star rather an a 5-star experience. read more

I went to the Parlor to hear Jimmy Winters sing. I was surprised to find a large band that had lots of brass, various other singers, particularly a very talented student from Salve Regina. The crowd was large, friendly and delighted with the music, which was so good if they were playing in a concert hall I would have paid to see them. What really surprised me was the food. It was incredibly delicious, and I thought one of the best restaurants I've been to lately. I'm so glad to have discovered Parlor and will revisit many times! My first stop during a recent visit to Newport and what an awesome warm welcome! I arrived on a Sunday and this great spot was a few steps from my Airbnb. I asked to grab a seat at the bar and enjoyed a glass of pinot grigio and their really tasty cauliflower appetizer. I was starving and and still brought home leftovers - I HIGHLY recommend giving this an order no matter what. The staff here is so welcoming and easy going, and the owner was even kind enough to give me some recommendations of other adventures to try as I bopped about town. I love this place! Certainly they have really incredible food, much better than most places I've been in Newport. They also have a really cool second bar and dance floor and stage area and lots of times there's really good local live music. Visited Parlor yesterday for dinner. We took a seat at the bar and ordered cocktails. A baseball game was on the TVs. Best cocktails I have had in a while. Unfortunately, I don't remember what mine was called. It had strawberry purée in it and was SO refreshing! My partner got a spicy mule. While writing this, I wanna go back now just to get those drinks again. I got the Vegetarian big mac - could not tell the difference between that and real beef. It had that delicious charbroil taste like the burgers I used to love from cookouts. I loved the sauce on it and the fresh pickles. I was a bit hesitant about the fries- they are thicker than I prefer and almost looked overcooked. They weren't, I really enjoyed the fries. My partner got the Gobi Manchurian- battered cauliflower in a flavorful reduction. Yummy, crispy goodness. Everything about the experience was perfect. The drinks and the food were amazing. We enjoyed a thoroughly delicious and comfy dinner at Parlor to celebrate husband's birthday. The bartender/waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The calamari appetizer was perfectly seasoned and melted in our mouths. The mussels in a curry sauce were equally awesome, with such a generous amount of sauce that we had to order bread so that we didn't waste a drop of it! Caesar Salad was bountiful and delicious. My fish and fries were sizable, the fish had just the right amount of crispy breading and was tender and tantalizing. Also worth mentioning is the excellent interior design. So many features to observe and appreciate. It truly does feel like a parlor! The seating is varied--not just plain ol' tables, which I found charming. Love the giant mirrors in the bar area. Highly recommend. Even my glass of wine was perfect. The only thing I can think of to criticize is that I miss the different kinds of thick, delicious french fries that used to be on the menu. I was looking for a venue for a surprise 80th birthday party for my husband. Ended up meeting with Kristen, the owner/manager of Parlor. Immediately I knew I was in the right place. Plenty of room, a dance floor, pool tables, comfortable (elegant!) seating, and an enticing menu. My daughter and I returned for a tasting, and to firm up the menu for our group of 50. Again, Kristen was effusively friendly and accommodating. Everything we tasted was delicious from the Filipino spring rolls to the very fresh baked cod, chicken parm, fresh ravioli, and garlicky naan bread. We added a few kid-friendly items to the menu, and we were set. The party was a huge success, and many commented that Parlor was indeed a Newport gem. And guess what? We stopped in late on a weeknight for dinner after finding not much else open in the area, and settled in at their spacious bar. The vodka martinis were delicious, and the food was actually superb- a nice, grilled pizza for her and Asian-inspired glass noodles with tofu for me, and fresh and crunchy Caesar salad split between us. Our server, the bartender, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and we felt well-cared for throughout. Overall, Parlor far exceeded our expectations. Came here on a Friday night. We had made reservations and got there at 6:30. The place was pretty quiet and we were seated in the dining area. We got a glass of wine and soda for drinks and then an order of the Vietnamese wings and the pulled pork and pineapple pizza. Service was attentive and friendly, food came out quick. Pizza was delicious - pork was flavored just right with a sweet bbq sauce and the crust thin yet chewy, pizza overall was crisp not soggy - just how I like it. Wings were very tasty and crispy with a coating similar to cornmeal it was light and the sauce a little salty. Good portion of wings for the price. Pizza size was fair too. The menu also had clearly mislabeled some meat dishes as being vegetarian and didn't label some other items' prices. My husband took me here for Mother's Day and we had the best day! First they take online reservations which is always just the best. Then they gave us a wonderful table that was on a little stage and had a couch, it was perfect gave us plenty of room since my little one was eager to run around. I know they had a back up in the kitchen and I appreciate them apologizing. Service was amazing and I could tell a lot of the people were family working. I loved the cheese board, the warm baguette just hit the spot. The rest of the food was good, it looked like the regular lunch menu was a little more exciting than the brunch but that's ok, we'll come back to try those egg rolls! I do wish they had a changing table in one of the bathrooms or maybe on the wall outside the bathrooms. I just think for all places, not just hers, if you have high chairs you should have a changing table! My husband had to change the baby on the floor outside the bathroom and I'd prefer we just didn't have that. But overall we really enjoyed our day! read more

The Parlor on Broadway, Newport has really figured out how to transition during this pandemic, allowing you to feel absolutely safe and dare I say even normal. The distancing with tables and seats is done better than most. The interior is very clean and she's even taking the down time to renovate a bit making for a great open space and feel. Do yourself a favor & get here for dinner as fast as you can! Don't miss out on a Sunday Brunch. At first glance this place seems divey, but give it a chance. We experienced incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional staff, absolutely delicious food, and a cool vibe. Note: street parking in an interesting part of town with many cool and exciting sights. IMPORTANT: if you make your reservations through Yelp, the restaurant never sees it. Wow, finally a restaurant in Newport who gets ambience, service and food!! So thrilled we found this gem. We've struck out lately on either food, service and/or atmosphere. The Parlor nailed all three. The menu is eclectic and my daughter was unsure of how it would all be, but everything we ate was fabulous. We had the spring rolls, (incredible) the pot stickers, some of the best ever, truffle fries, Caesar salad, bbq pork and pineapple pizza, and their wings. Every single dish was phenomenal. I'm a bit obsessed with this place honestly! The wait staff are wonderful, so kind and charming and very attentive. The decor is cute, but they still have a pool table! The cocktails are delightful, but The shining star for me though is that they have so many GlutenFree options!! I'm a big fan of their pizzas, and their Thai zoodles. This place is great from groups too! We had a table of 14 and they handled it with ease. New-ish newport local here, this is my neighborhood spot. This place takes the things that I normally wouldn't eat and makes them into an incredible dish that I order repeatedly. Their Gobi (crispy cauliflower) is probably one of favorite dishes since moving to Newport in November '21. A few places in the area do this dish but this one has been the best I've had here. Normally I'm anti pineapple on pizza but a friend ordered the bbq pineapple pizza, I tried it and they make this work really well. They do potato wedge style fries too that are really good and cooked to perfection. Their beer selection has a few local RI brews and the classics. They have a good selection liquors to choose from if you're looking for a cocktail as well. Give this place a shot and you shouldn't be disappointed! read more

Made a reservation on Open Table for a Thursday night without any issue. They don't have a huge menu, and were out of a couple items. Not a problem for us! For our entrees, my husband had the Zucchini Thai Peanut Noodles with Chicken and I had the peach and prosciutto pizza. My husband enjoyed his dish and I enjoyed mine- though I think they were a little heavy with the goat cheese. The pizza absolutely had the right amount of peaches and prosciutto, great crust and perfect amount of balsamic. It would have been only better with less goat cheese. I think it had a pound! I actually wondered if they covered their food cost with all that cheese!? Anyhoooo- I digress. Super friendly server and hostess, very clean restaurant space.
