This gilded age mansion feels luxurious and comfortable all at the same time! Their stunning property lends itself well to special events such as weddings and private parties, but many come here to enjoy the food at Safari Room and the views on the Lawn. We enjoyed our time on property and our overnight stay in one of their historical rooms. It has all the modern amenities you could need, including a high tech toilet with heated seats and a bidet! We also enjoyed complimentary breakfast as hotel guests which was a nice treat. We would recommend this property to anyone visiting Newport!

Had dinner in the ballroom for a business event and the venue was absolutely beautiful with huge windows and a spacious interior l. Service was attentive and friendly, and we got a tapas-style meal with a cheeseboard, mediterranean foods, and a new-england station with fried seafood. The venue spoke for itself as a gilded-age mansion and kept to the 1800s style, with the view as the main event. Loved it!

We were in the area for a somber occasion and wanted to find somewhere beautiful to reflect on a life well lived. The OceanCliff was the perfect choice! Upon arrival late in the evening, the staff were warm and welcoming. Rooms were large and well appointed. In the morning, the views were stunning! We truly appreciated the opportunity to enjoy this historic property.

We had a nice clean room. Partial view of the water. Our room is a joining room so we can hear a lot of talking from other room.

Our first time staying at Ocean Cliff Hotel. Feb 3-5, 2023. We have eaten at the Safari Room many times and I highly recommend it. The hotel itself is a beautiful building in a great location overlooking the water. Our room was beautiful with real furniture that you would have in a nice home. The queen sized sleigh bed is what dreams are made of. It was the coldest weekend of the season with below zero temps and our room was cozy warm with the central heat of then building. I want to mention the staff. They made us feel very welcome from the front desk, bartender, waitress and on. They treated us like friends being welcomed into their home. We will be back. Thank you to all the employees who ensured a perfect stay.

A friend recently got married here and I was super excited to attend her wedding because (1) I love her and (2) the photos of the venue were breathtaking. It was raining on the day of her ceremony and I loved that the staff greeted us at the car with umbrellas. I knew from then it was going to be amazing customer service. The ceremony and reception were held in the same room which had amazing views of the water. They had us step out into the foyer sort of area for cocktail hour while they turned the room from ceremony space to reception space. ALL of the food I put in my mouth was delicious. In fact I ate so much of it that I never even felt tipsy from the open bar. All in all the space was beautiful, the staff were exceptional and the food was phenomenal! Good job all around.

This review pertains only to the bar service at the Safari Room restaurant. We stopped here while taking the scenic drive around the city and almost turned around when it looked like the place was closed for a private event. It turns out there was a wedding going on, but in a separate part of the resort, leaving the Safari Room open to the public. If you're driving around like we were, there aren't a lot of places to stop for a drink along the way. The Safari Room appears to be one of the few, and while the name and theme of the business are somewhat out of place in the classy OceanCliff, the view from the back of the resort is well worth a visit. They have giant Adirondack chairs where you can go sit with your drinks and enjoy the sights. OceanCliff seems like a great place for a wedding, though it is a little far from all the action downtown.

Ocean Cliff should not be marketed as a hotel and resort. Dirty, unkept, fungus on the tub in the bathroom. In the restaurant, a plastic JOB LOT pepper shaker. Come on. Expensive and overpriced and not a world-class hotel nor resort. A landmark hotel left in disorder; unkempt: untidy restaurant; disarranged: a disheveled appearance. NEVER AGAIN. We paid an overpriced and under everything!!!

I would love to say thank you to Kevin and Rich for outstanding service ! They made our wonderful time there perfect. Our drinks to our food were excellent. The personal service is what made it memorable. It's rare to find people who really care about what they do and their costumers.

This review is for the restaurant. If it was just for the view it would get 5 stars but the service & food would be 1 star. We were truly disappointed with the service. When we get there and head to the bar to grab some drinks to bring them to the Lawn area. The women bar tender literally just ignored us and I can honestly tell you it was just me and the gentlemen who just ordered. Instead of coming to me next she walks to the other end of the bar and takes care of two gentlemen who literally just walked up to the bar. Wow!!! We decide instead to get a table with a great view. After waiting awhile ... strike one...Zac comes by to take our drink order. Seems like a long time but he brings our drinks and I ask for a glass for my beer. After waiting a long time my wife gets up and goes to the bar for me to grab a glass...strike two. Our meals come; crab cakes which are friends are going to share, my wife's veggie flatbread pizza & my lobster flatbread pizza. While eating it I realize it's missing the basil. When I finally get Zac's attention, he says he will bring it right over. He doesn't bring over the basil until I catch his eye to let him know I am still waiting for it.... strike three. Everyone seemed to be ok with there meals except me. My pizza crust felt like it was a frozen pizza box.... awful. I wanted to like the food so bad because we were having such a great time with friends with an amazing view but would never get my pizza again. I'm going back solely for the view and just for a drink.... just hoping the same bartender isn't working.

This goes for the NYYC Harbor Court station in Newport, RI. Our Commodore was having his "Commodore Cruise" in New England and the closing dinner was to be at Harbor Court. Now, with COVID there was a limit on guests amd total crowd for a dinner. We had over 100 cruising ew England and over 80 were due for the final dinner. Add Henri the hurricane to the mix and we had some challenges for the dinner. We had cocktails on the front lawn. Then, the NYYC set is up outside in the motor court area for dinner. This allowed us to get our entire group together. Weather was perfect. Calm Before the storm as they say. We even had the opportunity to watch the clubs "colors" ceremony when they retreat the flag each evening prior to sunset. Now getting to the food and service. With COVID it is especially hard to find amd keep good servers. We struggle with that at our club. It here at the NYYC. First they had plenty of staff. A welcome reprise from those businesses who can't seem to ramp staff back up. Even more impressive, their staff are trained very well. Women first, serve from left, remove from Right etc... I was thoroughly impressed that during COVID, and the night before a major hurricane, the NYYC was able to host the dinner for the StFYC and do so at such a best-of-class level. If you have a chance to visit Harbor Court, don't miss it!

Huge shout out to the manager, Kristen, who makes every person feel so welcome when they walk in that front door! She couldn't have treated us more kindly and more genuinely. What a shining example of the best in hospitality! Then Eric at the bar, so incredibly nice! He makes everybody that sits down at that bar feel like a VIP! And his cocktails, delicious! We were right in the neighborhood & hungry when a bell went off in my head - "Let's finally try The Reef". Upon approaching, the first thing I noticed was parking. Such a rarity in this neighborhood to find free parking! We made a mental note to remember this. It was a bit early for the tourist season & for dinner time, so we were seated quickly. The dining room continued to fill & liven up during our visit. A private party filled the bar area as well. What a gorgeous spot on the water! I imagine the sunset views from here are fabulous and the tent and patios on the dock must be wonderful on a nice, summer day. Our waiter ( Vincent maybe? ), promptly welcomed us & remained attentive & helpful through our visit. When asked for a recommendation, he immediately went into a thorough description of the items & helped our decision. The first thing that I noticed was that the prices on the menu were, in many cases, much different than what was shown on the website. I always peruse online menus before hand and I quickly noticed that the entrée I had been considering, the Black Cod, was a full $10 more than what showed online. It is inexcusable for a large restaurant company like Hertiage to have incorrect or outdated menu information on their property websites. We ordered that Black Cod & the Short Rib ( which is now served with mashed potato - not polenta as shown on the website ). The first thing I noticed when it quickly arrived was the portion size. A small piece of fish, maybe four or five ounces, sat atop a cup of rice and a few thin asparagus spears. It almost appeared to be an appetizer, not a main dish. The short rib was a heartier portion & certainly more fulfilling. My partner was happy with the beef, although the sauce was oddly VERY smoky, almost tasting like too much smoke flavoring had been added. If there was a deep, beefy flavor typical or a demi, it was completely overwhelmed by the smokiness. The flavor of the fish was even more disappointing. While it certanly didn't taste spoiled, it had very little flavor from the glaze & a strong fishy-ness. When I discoved that the bottom of the filet still had a silver skin layer, I removed it and the fish flavor improved but the dish remained very bland. I ate it but found it just "meh" & left still hungry, despite not having a huge appetite arriving. I think we will try it again. Perhaps for a brunch on the patio on a nice summer day. The pasta dishes I saw going by looked better and, you certainly can't beat the location.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and how beautiful the property looked online, we were genuinely excited to spend a couple of nights here. Unfortunately, for nearly $1,000 per night, the experience fell well short of expectations. At check-in, the concierge seemed completely uninterested. There was no welcome, no overview of the hotel, and no helpful information offered- it genuinely felt like we were inconveniencing her just by being there. We've stayed at other hotels in a similar price range, where the service is consistently warm, attentive, and polished, so this was especially disappointing. The valet was far more welcoming and professional than the front desk. After a short walk around town, we returned to the hotel and weren't acknowledged at all, the concierge kept her head down on her phone. I can appreciate a no-fuss stay where guests aren't overbothered, but for the price point and the fact that this was a special anniversary trip, being completely ignored wasn't what we expected. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The hotel itself is very pretty. The furnishings are lovely, and the room was nice and comfortable. The views were nothing particularly special; it appears the ocean-facing side is reserved for a conference space. Still, we did enjoy the room. Like many Newport hotels, valet parking is the only option and comes with a daily fee. The valet team was excellent- friendly, accommodating, and consistent throughout our stay. The restaurant deserves special mention: the staff was outstanding, and the food was excellent. Truly a five-star experience there- would def go back to dine with them. The location is also a positive, close enough to everything without being directly on the busy street. However, overall, we wouldn't choose to stay here again at this price point. Upon checkout, we noticed a charming bar/library space that we didn't even realize was available to guests as no one mentioned it to us during check-in. A beautiful hotel is wonderful, but to be considered luxury, the service needs to match the setting. Unfortunately, that piece was missing for us. If we wanted an experience that anyone could offer, we could have gone anywhere else, for much less.

It's a great spot for a drink especially in the summer time. Our recent visit on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, was not great. Despite it being a warm summer evening around 8 PM on a Wednesday, we were turned away because one person in our party wore a t-shirt instead of a collared shirt. For a midweek outing in August, that felt unnecessarily rigid and to be honest a little too pretentious. Although we can understand enforcing dress codes on weekend nights this seemed out of touch. We ended up at Thames Street Kitchen and Audette instead, both of which did not have strict dress codes. The Studio Bar at the Gardiner House still makes great cocktails, but the hospitality needs to match.
