Pretty good place for a wedding!!! A lot of money for a smallish venue, would recommend for a summer wedding but maybe not a winter wedding as the ceremony would also have to be inside. If you plan on getting married in a church this is also a good option for the reception. They usually let you stay until 11. Kids are allowed, it's elegant, over looks the water, bathrooms are clean and there is a full bar and a half bar. Somewhat easy parking, especially for the first 50ish cars. We were here at Ocean Cliff for a cousin's wedding. Although the weather didn't cooperate, it was a beautiful day. I don't know if there were any mix ups or mistakes as the day progressed, but what I saw and experienced was wonderful. After leaving the church, there were a couple of hours before the reception. We were told to head to the Safari Room at Ocean Cliff, which was wonderfully receptive to the amount of people that showed up! The espresso Martini's were awesome! The cocktail hour then opened up and was just as delicious and beautiful. The bride and groom both had specialty drinks. The hor'dourves were delicious, and the view spectacular! Dinner was just as wonderful, although my filet mignon was a bit overcooked to my liking. However, it was very good and cut like butter. There were quite a few people at this wedding, but the dance floor was giant and nobody was dancing on top of each other! The DJ was awesome (wish I got his name), and kept the dance floor busy all night. There were plenty of servers, everyone was friendly and helpful. The wedding party and family members had room at the Ocean Cliff, and had nothing but good things to say. Their stunning property lends itself well to special events such as weddings and private parties, but many come here to enjoy the food at Safari Room and the views on the Lawn. We enjoyed our time on property and our overnight stay in one of their historical rooms. It has all the modern amenities you could need, including a high tech toilet with heated seats and a bidet! I wanted to split this between pros and cons. Pros: SUPER friendly and helpful staff, and the view of the waters is phenomenal. Especially during sunset, where they have Adirondack chairs where you can sit and have a drink or read a book. Cons: this venue is more geared towards events and weddings. While the place has a ton of historic charm, and despite their attempts to update the rooms, it is somewhat outdated; gaps in the doors, older showers, etc. If you're looking for amenities in your hotel, such as a gym or pool, this is not really the place. In the same line of amenities, this location does not have room services and a lot of food/drink services stop around 10 pm. One needs to keep that in mind when planning their night. Overall, there are areas where this place shines, and others that it falls flat. If one is looking for features and amenities traditional for a "hotel," this may not be the place for you. My Mom, Aunt, Big Sis , and I stayed here for our family vacation. The service is very nice and friendly. Mike was wonderful with helping us get what we need to settle in. Gave us the number to Nicholas Pizza for delivery as it was late when we arrived and we were tired and hungry. Pizza and wings were delicious. Back to this resort. It's not all that modern, but not antiquated either. The place is clean, it says it sleeps 6 but not how we like to sleep . There's one large room upstairs with a king bed and full bath. Downstairs there was a small bedroom with only room for a full size bed(1 step up from a twin) full bath, however small. The living room was spacious and the view from the deck was pretty. There's a pull out couch, but no adult was sleeping on that. It wasn't warm out, so we didn't hang out on the deck. I would recommend this place for family with small children, or very close family/friends that you don't mine sharing a bed with. read more

A friend recently got married here and I was super excited to attend her wedding because (1) I love her and (2) the photos of the venue were breathtaking. It was raining on the day of her ceremony and I loved that the staff greeted us at the car with umbrellas. I knew from then it was going to be amazing customer service. The ceremony and reception were held in the same room which had amazing views of the water. They had us step out into the foyer sort of area for cocktail hour while they turned the room from ceremony space to reception space. ALL of the food I put in my mouth was delicious. In fact I ate so much of it that I never even felt tipsy from the open bar. All in all the space was beautiful, the staff were exceptional and the food was phenomenal! Good job all around. read more

Our first time staying at Ocean Cliff Hotel. Feb 3-5, 2023. We have eaten at the Safari Room many times and I highly recommend it. The hotel itself is a beautiful building in a great location overlooking the water. Our room was beautiful with real furniture that you would have in a nice home. The queen sized sleigh bed is what dreams are made of. It was the coldest weekend of the season with below zero temps and our room was cozy warm with the central heat of then building. I want to mention the staff. They made us feel very welcome from the front desk, bartender, waitress and on. They treated us like friends being welcomed into their home. We will be back. The TLDR review is that they need more attention to details some of the good and bad: - wonderful staff. eager to help and available when needed - incredibly unhealthy continental breakfast. everything is sugar heavy other than the hard boiled eggs. -high-tech electric toilet, including a bidet. It was a little difficult to figure out which buttons to press and the bidet was not very useful. - minimal shelf space in the bathroom - very loud AC unit - we had to use two different controls to control the TV one to turn it on another to switch channels back to the first one for volume control - there was a nightstand on only one side of the bed. We had to use the chair on the other side, (the only chair) - I had to get some computer work done and the only table available. Had a glass surface ( mouses don't work on those) - The location is not really near anything walkable. It's used as a wedding venue sometimes so there might be some sound, but mostly it was quiet. read more

This review pertains only to the bar service at the Safari Room restaurant. We stopped here while taking the scenic drive around the city and almost turned around when it looked like the place was closed for a private event. It turns out there was a wedding going on, but in a separate part of the resort, leaving the Safari Room open to the public. If you're driving around like we were, there aren't a lot of places to stop for a drink along the way. The Safari Room appears to be one of the few, and while the name and theme of the business are somewhat out of place in the classy OceanCliff, the view from the back of the resort is well worth a visit. They have giant Adirondack chairs where you can go sit with your drinks and enjoy the sights. OceanCliff seems like a great place for a wedding, though it is a little far from all the action downtown. read more

This review is for the restaurant. If it was just for the view it would get 5 stars but the service & food would be 1 star. We were truly disappointed with the service. When we get there and head to the bar to grab some drinks to bring them to the Lawn area. The women bar tender literally just ignored us and I can honestly tell you it was just me and the gentlemen who just ordered. Instead of coming to me next she walks to the other end of the bar and takes care of two gentlemen who literally just walked up to the bar. Wow!!! We decide instead to get a table with a great view. After waiting awhile ... strike one...Zac comes by to take our drink order. Seems like a long time but he brings our drinks and I ask for a glass for my beer. After waiting a long time my wife gets up and goes to the bar for me to grab a glass...strike two. Our meals come; crab cakes which are friends are going to share, my wife's veggie flatbread pizza & my lobster flatbread pizza. While eating it I realize it's missing the basil. When I finally get Zac's attention, he says he will bring it right over. He doesn't bring over the basil until I catch his eye to let him know I am still waiting for it.... strike three. Everyone seemed to be ok with there meals except me. My pizza crust felt like it was a frozen pizza box.... awful. I wanted to like the food so bad because we were having such a great time with friends with an amazing view but would never get my pizza again. We visited Ocean Cliff for a wedding and stayed a local bnb because the rates to stay were quite high. The venue was very beautiful with the main banquet room overlooking a cliff leaning over the ocean. On a beautiful day, this was quite spectacular. The food at ocean cliff was very good which included fresh steamed lobster, clams, baked chicken, and other sides. The service was quite attentive and the bar staff were friendly and efficient. I would say the only down side seemed to be that the one ladies room that I could find had only four stalls which is not very many at all considering how large a wedding group can get. Once in a while there was a wait which prevented some people from getting in and out quickly and back to enjoying the wedding. read more

But, you're paying for the pristine beauty of the panoramic view of lawn folding into the ocean and meeting the horizon. Grab a cocktail, find a wooden Adirondack chair on the meticulously groomed lawn and swoon in the splendor of the Atlantic. Dreamy, I tell you. I've never had the pleasure of staying overnight here (yet), but whenever I get the opportunity to be in Newport, I hustle out to the Oceancliff so I can suck down a few suds and park my ass in one of the many wooden Adirondack chairs littered across the grassy knoll surrounding the outdoor patio area. To describe the view as amazing does not give it justice. Simply incredible, overlooking the mouth of the Narraganset Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Sunset is the best time to visit, and bring a jacket even in the summer months. It is one of my favorite places to sit and reflect. Simply amazing! read more

BEWARE! Terrible venue for a wedding. I would highly recommend couples to consider any other venue besides oceancliff. We booked a wedding with them over a year and a half in advance and shortly after booking our circumstances changed and we had to cancel. The staff were terrible to work with and they refused to refund any portion of our deposit despite them being able to fill our date and more than a year of notice. Other vendors were able to come to some middle ground and provide us with refunds but not Oceancliff. The venue is also nothing like it looks in pictures. It is run down, old, poorly maintained, and the staff are the most accommodating individuals I have worked with before. There are so many great venues out there and the service provided by venue staff should be a major component to your decision (especially as it is for one of the most important days in your life!!) Highly discourage couples from choosing this venue!! read more

Just stayed at ocean cliff for our 2nd year anniversary. We had stayed a few years ago on a random trip to Newport. The views are beautiful and surreal. We watched the Volvo Ocean Race from the lawn. It was pretty cool. The hotel staff was super friendly and we just love the old colonial style rooms. Drinks were also reasonably priced. Breakfast was included with our room fee. It's a continental breakfast, but it did the job. read more

I think that Ocean Cliff as just a wedding or banquet venue for a few hours is a good choice as the grounds are beautiful inside and outside. If you choose to stay overnight at this hotel, I would say it's a bit on the weathered side. We stayed for a few days with friends in #38. The bedroom on 2nd floor had a king size bed but the bed in the downstairs room was tiny, I'm assuming a full size, but for two adults in their 50's, in this day and age, at least a queen size is needed to be comfortable. Not only was the bed tiny, but the room itself was too - and adjoining bathroom. The room offered no bedside tables (simply no room for them) and the closet was a small crawl space. The bed was positioned up against one wall so one person always had to literally crawl in and out of it. It got to the point where when I had to get up early morning to use the bathroom, I took my pillows and blanket out to the couch to continue sleeping. Shingles on the outside deck walls and roof tops look like they need to be replaced. A windy night and morning during the stay proved some loose objects attached to the building on the outside rattling and banging. We thought about taking a dip in the indoor pool and/or hot tub but just merely walking past it and peeking in on it through the windows on the way to our room had us 2nd thinking it. The pool surroundings including chairs and floor tiles looked to be weathered and unkempt. The Safari Room restaurant/bar here was pretty good. We went in late afternoon to just have drinks at the bar but there were no seats so they offered us a table. We ended up having an appetizer and a couple drinks and had good service and the views were spectacular. I love Newport and was grateful to have a warm dry place to stay for a few days but unlikely we'd stay in this hotel again in the future. We would however visit the Safari room again for a cocktail and to enjoy some relaxing views. Thank you. read more

Whatever you do, do not stay in a "historic queen" room. This establishment truly rips you off and you will absolutely be more comfortable in an air bnb or any shitty motel. Your room will not have an adjoining bathroom, and you will walk down the hallway to use your key card to enter your dimly lit, ventilation barren, water closet for ants. After your shower you can reminisce on college while walking by other towel-goers back to your room. Too hot in your stuffy, low ceiling, clearly-old-servant's quarters? There is no thermostat so you gotta call the front desk and place your request. In the meantime, you crack the window and discover there is no screen, causing hundreds of bugs to fly around your room like the plague. After you hit your noggin on a protruding wall, you go to sleep with your partner, but there is only one nightstand so you have to fight over who gets a table, and who rests their phone and water on the floor. Only plus is that there is a huuuuuge walk-in closet, that would probably fit a bathroom (hint hint, nudge nudge), but you can only use it when the sun is shining in the east because there's no light switch. I suppose there is an absolutely stunning view of the ocean, but that appreciation is only possible when you're only mildly miserable, and partially poor for dropping serious cash on your serial killer paradise. read more

The inside of Ocean Cliff is also gorgeous as they designed it in the best money can buy. Big chandeliers, hand curved chairs, high end wall mirrors, expensive furnitures. This place has class. I do not know their prices but if you have the money for a one time event, go for it. The staff is also seasoned as they do weddings there all time. We were looking forward to a quick getaway and booked here. Property is very pretty. Beds are horrible, fairly sure we felt every bedspring. Rm 10 is over the entrance complete with bright exterior lights shinning in the 2 windows with blinds but no curtains. No way to regulate room heat, it was so hot we slept with both windows wide open. Water pressure so so. Temp in shower fluctuates with others using water in building. Continental breakfast has individual cereal boxes, croissants, muffins, yogurt.. Nice fresh fruit salad and good coffee. Beautiful view read more

4.5 stars for a wedding we went to, but 1 star for the place as a hotel. Overpriced for what you get. First, there is a parking lot on the side. There are a couple of entrances but no signs. We had to guess where to go, dragging heavy luggage. With the prices they charge, they should have some signs out. Uncomfortable bed, and you can hear other rooms, so if you want quiet, go elsewhere. They have no elevator. The lady at the front said that there is someone available to help with bags. I'm sorry.. for this price and inconvenience, that should be standard for every guest, not just offered "if we want help." I would never stay here again. read more

I cannot say enough good things about OceanCliff. I just had my wedding, March 9th 2013, my husband and I are overwhelmed with the seamless and professional outcome of our wedding day. The entire process and planning was smooth and communications were always prompt. Early on, we knew we didn't want the normal wedding setup that OceanCliff is accustomed to, and thought we would get a lot of push back. But, incredibly, they were excited about our ideas and eager to try a new floor plan since it was off season and we were the only wedding that day. We transformed the ballroom into three unique separate spaces throughout the night with our ceremony, reception and dance lounge. The transitions were seamless and we couldn't have been happier. The day of our wedding we were assigned a "captain", Alyssa, who was absolutely priceless. She was responsible for Jamie, my husband, and I all day. Her sole job was to ensure we had everything we needed or wanted. During photos, before the ceremony, my dress tore a little, she mended it! Having Alyssa removed any unnecessary stress or worry we may have had throughout the day. The food was incredible and everyone that had steak raved about it. We were able to move into the Safari Room for an after party with food and drinks after our reception. Having our ceremony, reception and after party all in one place really made the day move effortlessly from one event to the next. Our guests did not have to worry about driving anywhere, especially important to us, because it was an open bar for the whole event. And, because it is a hotel, almost all stayed on site and only had to stumble up the grand staircase to bed. The team of professional that made our day so special included; Galen, Jim, Dana, Christina and Alyssa. They are a great team and highly recommend having your wedding at OceanCliff. If blocking rooms at the hotel, be sure your guests know how to book their room in your wedding block. read more

The grounds are great and from the outside it looks fantastic and the views out the back are spectacular; but the inside is less than impressive. Our hotel room was cramped and awkward, our bathroom was down the hall rather than attached to the room. The wifi was terrible and the furniture arrangement made no sense with the TV out of sight from the bed. The breakfast was cheap and insulting. I wouldn't have been so irked but for the price tag. You're paying for the location and with that rate they are getting away with murder. Unless you have a wedding on site I wouldn't bother staying there. read more

I stayed here, two nights ago, as I was in town for work. Whenever anyone asked where I was staying and I responded Oceancliff? Their mouths dropped open. The outside is just gorgeous. In fact, sitting in the Adirondack chairs, drink in hand, watching the boats go by was as close to a zen moment as anything ever will be. Photos do not do it justice: the experience is existential. Inside, the hotel is antiquated but I mean this in a charming way. The interior is simply exquisite and the staff is lovely. The continental breakfast was quite lovely and the server, from Jamaica (we can't remember her name), was so sweet. Oh my word, my parents kept raving about her. There are no elevators but that is fine with us. Our room was all the way down the hall by itself (#8). The room and attached bathroom are gorgeous. Seriously, what a great bathtub/shower. The four stars come into play here: -The view from our room was of a generator, lawn mower, trash cans and propane tanks. Hmmmm. -The bathroom view was of the entrance and fountain which is pretty. However, my bathroom blinds were broken and wouldn't shut all the way. The windows are very tall and I'm 5'0". My husband is, thankfully, taller and was able to just reach the top and finagle them to shut. I'm sure the patrons did not want to see my bits as they approach this gorgeous place. -We signed a noise waiver which was fine. I mean, the place is a much sought-after wedding venue. Music was played until 9:30 but my parents, in one of the more central rooms (#12) didn't hear it at all. We all heard the fireworks that started at 9:30 for about twenty minutes. Again, music and fireworks are fine if over by ten. I didn't care but my folks were cranky about the fireworks. All in all, it was an excellent location, with superb views from the back grounds, with just a few glitches. read more

I came here for brunch and I was not impressed by the interior decor in Safari Room. It was gloomy and dull. Sadly, I didn't get to brunch by the outdoor deck. I think the outdoor is reserved for private events only, like weddings, plus it was cold outside in November. Food was okay with decent portion. I'd come back for dinner one day around spring or summer time, and hopefully I'd get to sit outside overlooking the water and sunset. read more

Hadn't been to Ocean Cliff since we attended a wedding there over 20 years ago, so we took advantage of their Valentine's Day "staycation" and couldn't have had a more pleasant visit. Although our room was on the top floor - and climbing 3 flights of stairs was a challenge to get there!! - it was well worth it. Spectacular water views from all windows, the most comfortable king-size sleigh bed, with furniture and furnishings that looked as though they were left in place by the Bronson & Hutton families. The 5-course dinner in the Safari Room was well-paced and exquisite - each course was delicious, and the entree included the best filet and lobster tail we've ever had. We can't say enough about each and every staff member - from the front desk personnel upon arrival, to the bar and wait staff at dinner, to the gardeners as we departed - we were treated as though we were the only guests in the hotel. Sincere thanks to all who made for a perfect stay. Needless to say, we will be back - much sooner than 20 years! read more
