She truly helped make our evening even more special with complimentary sparkling for a little toast, and as always was super accommodating of my allergies. This time, we pivoted. I recently discovered I'm not allergic to mollusks so I finally got to have my first oyster! And now I can personally attest to the quality and divinity of the oysters at Castle Hill. The ambiance was divine, as well, and as always. With the sunset looming overhead, our private engagement dinner before a weekend full of celebration was romantic and perfect. The Summer Vegetable Rigatoni helped with that too - featuring Ratatouille & perfectly al dente rigatoni, I was in heaven. Nothing beats an evening at Castle Hill, and what a serendipitous and lovely time it was to have Ingrid again! We heard she was working the next night and ended up having our pre-engagement party happy hour there to go visit and show our out of town friends the lawn. Overall, 10/10 weekend. Was not at all impressed with the service, ever, especially for a special event venue catering largely to weddings where service is everything. To be clear, it was a brunch buffet, not a sit down meal. That said, it was Mother's Day. Tables were set beautifully. Server brought us water, nothing else. If we wanted a cocktail, we had to stand at the bar and get it ourselves. Coffee after lunch? Ditto. Brunches have multiple courses. We should have been given clean cutlery in exchange for the removal of a plate instead of being forced to lay dirty cutlery on a clean ivory tablecloth and then reuse them, again and again. That part was a total turnoff and not encouraging for anyone considering it as a future event venue. The food offering was varied and generally a success. The bacon was delicious and good quality. The frittata bites were a good and elegant option to the usual chafing dish full of scrambled eggs. Kudos to the chef for the beef sirloin although at $95 a head, one might have expected a carving station over sliced beef steaks piled into a chafing dish that just dried out the beef over time. The accompanying horseradish cream was quite good. Everyone seemed to really love the raw bar and raclette station. The desserts were well curated , not just slabs of sweets on the table. The pasta dishes? Meh. The cacio e pepe was nothing more than a runny version of the mac and cheese from the kids table with some pancetta or proscuitto specks in it. Fairly tasteless. Location was wonderful but at that likely price point for a private event, I thought the experience was mediocre. Looking forward to going back to Castle Hill instead.

There was also a beverage station with tea, coffee and water available all day as well as an assortment of nuts, trail mix and candy. A newly…read morerenovated boutique hotel, this is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for something less massive than a hotel, but more involved than a bed and breakfast. My boyfriend and I decided to make a night of it, and check into this super cute hidden gem, nestled right behind the Newport Art Museum and steps from Bellevue Avenue and the Newport Mansions district. The facility and the rooms are sparkling clean, and don't even get me started about the decor! It is to die for - quirky, fun, and super Instagram-friendly. They are owned by Lark Hotels, a small company, and the bird details are subtly present throughout. My favorite nod to their namesake was an adorable Do Not Disturb sign that hung on the guestroom door reading "Shh.. We're Nesting." It honestly took all my willpower not to steal it! Ahem. We had a great experience with Peter, the Attwater's Front Desk Manager. Not only did he call us prior to check in to see if he could assist with anything we would need, he also upgraded us from the small Queen room that we had booked to the spacious Lark Suite, their largest accommodation. The suite had a gas fireplace, soaking tub, and gorgeous seating area with a dining table and several cozy couches and armchairs. We were super grateful for his hospitality, and even when we had a minor issue with the heating system in the room not lowering, Peter assisted us in the morning and generously offered vouchers for a future night stay. Thank you for your attention to detail and hospitality! I also LOVED the fact that the Attwater offers hot items in their included breakfast. We stay at a lot of small bed and breakfasts as stay and vacations, and one can only have so many cranberry muffins or glazed croissants. They did offer morning pastry standbys, but I was delighted to find a warm and delicious Cheddar Hash Brown Egg Bake and Shredded Brussels Slaw with Hard Boiled Eggs among the offerings. It really took the stay to the next level, and as a couple that stays at several B&Bs and small hotels, it did not go unnoticed! We can't wait for our next chance to visit :)

We got married at OceanCliff, and I wish I could say it was the celebration we dreamed of…read more Unfortunately, our experience with the catering coordinator assigned to us was deeply disappointing, and what happened afterward was far worse. Planning process: Our coordinator was repeatedly rude and condescending toward my mother throughout the planning process. She was also disorganized -- it took multiple rounds of corrections before she had our event details right. She also gave us incorrect measurements for pipe and drape, resulting in a $2,000 charge for a setup that couldn't be used as intended. Credit card fraud: About two months after our wedding, we noticed a fraudulent charge on the credit card we'd given the venue for our event. After investigating with our credit card company, we traced it to an email linked to this same coordinator's name, with an IP address in Newport, RI. We reported this to OceanCliff immediately. At first, they seemed genuinely engaged in getting to the bottom of it and asked us to file a police report, which we did. The Newport Police investigation confirmed the employee had stolen our credit card information and used it for personal purchases. Once the investigation concluded, OceanCliff went silent. Despite repeated requests, they never told us how our information was compromised, what changes they've made to prevent it from happening to other couples, or offered any acknowledgment of the time, stress, and violation of trust this caused during what should have been one of the happiest periods of our lives. We trusted this venue with our wedding and our financial information, and that trust was badly broken -- first by an employee, and then by a venue that stopped engaging once the legal matter was resolved. I can't in good conscience recommend OceanCliff to other couples.

We parked in the front and unloaded the cars easily. We did not use valet, the Marriott lot was $48 a night. Walking to the lot next door took about 2 minutes. The lobby is spacious, clean and very pretty. There's a water machine with flavored waters. Front desk staff are very professional and friendly. Valet guys are all nice and open the doors for you 98% of the time. With the daily destination fee, you also get 2 free tickets per room to the sailing museum or a vineyard 15 mins away (Sailing museum is free on Wednesdays). Had I known the museum was free Wednesdays, I would have chose the vineyard tickets instead. You also get $20 per room to use at the bar/restaurants as well as 2 bikes to rent. We checked into connecting balcony rooms. The rooms were clean but the balcony doors were hard to open. You have to pull it back really hard before unlocking it. The beds were comfortable. There are no microwaves but I called in to request one for the room. The first night I went to skiff bar to order some food and use our 2 $20 food credits. I ordered oysters and coconut shrimp. The oyster appetizer was terrible... the oysters flesh was tiny, totally not worth it. The next morning we had the hotel buffet for $32 a head. Omelet station was good. Standard breakfast items, view was good. We really only ate there for the view. Our waitress was barely around. Hotel is at a great location. Very close to the wharf and also right across from a small aquarium. The balcony was a nice place to chill, overall the hotel wasn't crowded. It's also very safe because you need to swipe a keycard to get to the hotel rooms. Best part of staying here was a pool table in the skiff bar. While waiting for my food, I just played two games by myself. I usually stay at Hiltons but I chose this Marriott because of the location and views. Glad I made this decision. I would definitely pick this hotel again should I decide to visit Rhode Island again!

A couple of the largest (priciest) rooms are located on the bottom floor, which may provide more space and perhaps more light. I will also say that the bed was not sagging or uncomfortable, so that's good. The rooftop view is nice too. The staff was pleasant. Con's: The Vanderbilt is dark, old, musty, and way overpriced. Staged in their old "downtown mansion" the rooms/suites are so freaking tight that they don't have space for furniture with drawers or bathroom vanities (actually, barely room to turn in the loft bathroom). So you have little space to store your stuff. The suite with the loft is a death trap: God forbid there's a fire, bc all the smoke would go up to the eaves (where the bed is tucked), above the twisting wood stairs with virtually no light. Seriously, there's one tiny window in this room and it's outfitted in dark colors. Kinda drab feel for a hotel room. I plopped on the couch and was shocked with a thud, as the room furniture is hard and uncomfortable. The carpet, walls, and (fabric) bed are a handsome dark blue (which highlights gross and suspicious light-colored stains). Like other Auberge properties, the shower tiles and grout are very dark (I assume to hide mold, yuck). I'm glad I didn't notice the silverfish chillin' above the bed until I was packing up to leave. Few other negatives include dingy pool/spa area and safe didn't work. The Vanderbilt has a few activity offerings, but the Tarot card reading was all that I noticed available at the time (I'll skip the sorcery). The location is a block or so from the wharf and all the tourist shops. But, we spent our days on the lawn at Castle Hill (where we should have stayed). Essentially, if you have the money to stay at this hotel, you have the money to stay somewhere better.

The smell of the hallway is borderline nauseating. There was a towel from the previous guest still hanging up in our bathroom. The view out the window is of a lovely parking lot. The room had damage in multiple areas, including water damage on the ceiling, which was dirty and peeling. The wallpaper was peeling in some areas. The tiles were not clean in the bathroom. All of this is cosmetic but when you're paying $550 a night on a weekend to stay here, you would expect the rooms to look a little bit better. This place definitely needs to invest a little more in the quality of the rooms. I don't think we would stay here again other than for the location given you don't get what you pay for. The front desk overnight guy was also not the friendliest. If it wasn't for the beds, I would've gave it a two star.

We pulled in and we were promptly greeted by the valet which was nice. We were told that valet is the only option unless we wanted to make an attempt at street parking. There is a huge parking lot surrounding the entire building that the hotel owns and now charges $45 a day for valet parking. They COULD allow guests to park at least one car there for a lower fee or even free, but they don't. The lobby is remodeled and very nice when you first walk in. People were friendly enough at check-in. However, when we started walking to our room, the surroundings and vibe became increasingly abysmal with each step. Walls, decor, and lighting were of very low quality. It was like walking through a seedy motel. To keep things short, we ended up switching rooms three different times because of issues with each of the rooms. This is the first hotel I've ever asked to switch rooms in. The first room had a terribly loud HVAC system, and wet, stained carpet. The second room was no better with the handle of the towel holder completely breaking off, and the sink faucet was very difficult to turn on. The manager on duty finally switched us to our final room, which had a somewhat updated shower, but the rest of the room still resembled the others as far as the look. The overall vibe from this hotel is absolutely anything but luxury. Please look elsewhere or just down the street if you crave the luxurious atmosphere. This place will remind you much more of a motel than a high-quality hotel. The price we paid for our stay was outrageous compared to the service and quality we received. As you check out, they slap on a destination fee for giggles. So be prepared for that. The hotel never offered us anything for our troubles of moving three times. They were also very resistant to offering us an upgrade. It was only after showing them the pictures and disclosing how unhappy we were about our stay where they finally convinced to remove the destination fees to appease us. This hotel left a sour taste in our mouth and will definitely not be back. They claimed that in six months time they will be renovating. Perhaps then they will be worthy of claiming luxury status. Until then, I'd highly recommend you stay away!
